If you see the statue of Grayfriars Bobby in Edinburgh, please don't rub it. This is a very recent "tradition", and it's already caused a lot of damage to the statue. Enjoy with your eyes!
There have been several accounts of dogs spending the rest of their lives waiting for someone (or trying to), whether it was a graveyard or train-station or other location. (Yes, these were inspirations for _Futurama's_ Seymour.)
There is another dog from Japan called hachiko who was also very loyal. He waited at the train station his owner was last on for 10+ years, waiting for him to come back. 2 loyal doggos.
Live a few hours from Edinburgh (from the Highlands!) and I’ve gone by Bobby’s grave and statue several times, always pay respect to Bobby any time I’m in the area as he was the BEST boy!
I was at edinburgh a couple weeks ago and saw the statue at greyfriars graveyard, i had heard that people would put down sticks at the foot of the statue to pay their respects. We walked through the gates and, sure enough, there were a ton of sticks laying in front of the statue. After a while wandering the graveyard I had decided that I was going to put a stick in front of the statue. So I abandoned my party and took the stick I was hiding up my shirt sleeve so I wouldn’t look like a weirdo holding a stick for no reason. And made my dash toward the statue, which had now gotten a crowd because of a tour group. I threw the stick trying to conceal myself as best as possible and ran away probably making me look more like an idiot than if I had just walked up and put down the stick lol.
Also fun fact along the wall outside the wall of the cemetery is a restaurant called Greyfriar Bobby’s or at least the building is. The story is that the owner of the pub loved bobby as he saw him everyday in the cemetery and he actually trained the dog to come to the pub every day at the 1 o’clock cannon (look it up) and he would be fed a meat pie.
this reminds me of a man in Japan who had his dog and they would take the train and the dog would wait at the train station for him to get off work but one day he died on the way back from work and the dog stayed there, people fed him and took care of him and he didn't move till he passed away and he also has his own statue :)
This story is a staple in Edinburgh, if you ever visit I’d recommend visiting Greyfrairs Bobby and his statue but please don’t touch his nose! Yes it’s tradition but that statue has had a lot of damage done to it due to this :( Also it’s Edin-Bruh not Edin-Burrow :)
Anyone who tells me these stories are fake I would give them the look if you're deaf. I mean I will send them and say they're very good boys and girls. fight me.
I live in Edinburgh. I hate that dog. Just the fact that outside the site of one of the most significant events in Scottish history (the signing of the 1638 Covenant, the impetus for the English Civil War and the rise of Oliver Cromwell) there is a beloved and revered statue... of a dog that contributed nothing and may never have even existed. The fact that it is so thronged with tourists that that side of George IV Bridge is impassable to pedestrians in tourists. The fact that every year, people have to work out how to patch up the bloody thing's nose because everyone has to stroke the damn thing for some reason. I hate that dog.

Is the pugmire creator a furry? Not asking to be in any way mean. Just very curious.
@@kapitan762x54R as a furry, im curious too.
You can't make a game based around medieval anthro dogs and not have at least one furry on the team.

Seems like every country agrees that nothing beats a loyal dog. Now excuse me while I go take care of my loyal but incredibly stupid dog.

There's a great chippy there with best Deep fired Mars bars in the city
I will put his nose if I want to, he has been a very good boy and deserves it
Apparently, some scumbags decided to damage his owner's grave 5 years back. Disgusting.
My dog is named Boby soo
But I wanna pet it :(
What about Hachikō ? I think Bobby might have a playmate in dog heaven.
That might be the only movie i refuse to watch a second time. It broke me.

@@suicune2001 yes its called Hachi: A Dog's Tale
@@chrisg4305 Thanks. :)
@@suicune2001 you say that now but you'll hate me for telling you. It's so sad.
This sounds like the inspiration for Futurama's episode where Fry's dog sits outside his job so long he petrifies!! 😭
There's also a Japanese dog named Hachiko that waited at a train station every day till it too died for its owner to return.
Best and worst episode. 😭
Seymour is the goodest doogo in history 😭😭😭
Omg why did you remind me of that episode 😢
A dog once found a stolen world cup trophy it wasn't even a search dog
What a perfect boy. That is truly a loyal friend.
Yeah, I remember seeing Bobby's statue when visiting Edinburgh! Truly the goodest of boys.

Imagine you have just come back from the front lines saw half of your company get killed only to find out a dog out ranks you
Ive seen his statue and his head and nose are polished from people petting him. Good boy!
A mans best friend to the end
Dude used this loyal dogs story as an ad, I can't tell if I should be disappointed or shocked.
Bro imagine trying to challenge the story of a dog guarding his friend's grave.
Some say whenever that area is in trouble the statue will come to life and defend it

The band “the real McKenzies” had a song about this “the ballad of greyfriars Bobby” it’s a banger
All right whos chopping onions?
Imagine being so fucking petty about a dog being so loyal and respectful, that you try to challenge if the story is real or not.
When I was a kid, my family and I went on a tour through Scotland, and I think we have some photos of a Bobby statue somewhere.
Good Boy Bobby.
