Why the right VW Transporter Campervan suspension is so important.

  • Sorry about the technical issues with the loss of audio. I would have loved to just re-film that part but I didn't find out until I was back in the UK. We now have a new mic so hopefully it won't happen again!
    For me putting quality suspension on a camper van is one of the most important things. I'm not saying everyone should have the Solow NSL, but everyone should have good quality suspension.
    The right coilovers are night and day better than standard suspension and cheap coilovers. We do a lot of miles in our camper vans when going away in them. Surely it's important that we arrive there without feel travel sick? Comfort is key for me and my family.
    If you don't have the budget for decent suspension, wait and save for it. As they say you buy cheap, you buy twice. I've lost count of the amount of times we taken off cheap coilovers for people that are a few months old, to replacement them with decent ones.
    As a side note, 275/40/20 tyres are also wrong. Too big, rolling radius is wrong, speedo is incorrect and importantly they are over load rated and too hard. It's a crime that wheel company offer them as standard packages as the are cheaper and over rated. They will also rub as soon as you lower the vehicle almost any amount. Trust me, big tyres don't mean more comfort.
    Our coilover range is here. We don't sell cheap suspension as I believe it's a false economy.

    Good video. The low look is cool but it usually comes with a negative effect on comfort. Air is the best solution.

    • @THQAutomotive
      @THQAutomotive  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a common misconception. Lowering reduces body roll and sway as it reduces the centre on gravity. Lowering on the correct coilover with be way more comfortable than standard suspension. Air is great for sure.

    • @SC-nv8ve
      @SC-nv8ve ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THQAutomotive The best way to reduce roll is a bigger anti roll bar. I see the H&R ones are popular on the transporter. I agree, the correct spring and shock / strut setup will be a definite improvement to the original OEM commercial suspension. Quality air suspension will always give the best results. All top of the range cars have air suspension for a good reason.

I use my van as a day van, everyday car, and as a camper (without the furniture but with a pop top) usually just me and the dog in it. Planning to change the suspension and looking for around 75-85mm drop, but didn’t want to be at the lowest end (and will probably want to explore lower - because we all do eventually). Is it correct that Air suspension has no control to stop it being too high or too low thus causing it to crash in other parts causing damage.
    I ask this question because we have had a conversion and the suspension has been nothing but trouble, the invoice states it has being fitted with an Air Lift Performance 3H/3P. You need to be instructed exactly how to use the air suspension and dont feel that that is right ? We are in Bournemouth, Dorset, the conversion was carried out by VanHaven. Had nothing but problems.
