You sir are a legend! I had a proprietary branded mini usb that came with my Headphones that were not seating properly. I rarely used the cable because I like to keep my proprietary cables I get from the manufacture. The pins were a bit sunken in and I needed to clamp the middle so that it would get a more secure connection as instructed in the video and it works flawlessly now. Really appreciate you making this video!

Just used this today, worked like a charm. Thanks for saving me some cash man! Something I was able to do (not positive it was the best idea) to make the prongs a bit more grab-able, was to push the whole metal portion of the connector down a bit, it exposes them significantly and makes grabbing them significantly easier if they're really down there! Thanks again

  • @Chargfox

It's easier to put the tip of a thick needle under the clips and pry them up instead of trying to grab them with clippers and pull up.

Ever since I learned to use plumbers tape to keep the tremolo bar on my guitar in place, I've been using it for everything. If you wrap the head of the connector (Part that goes into the device) with 1 layer of plumbers tape and you make sure to trim the excess and rub any loose strands out of the way of the little hole, it will increase the width of the connector just enough to give you a snug fit in most devices. Removing your device from the charger can tear the tape and leave little bits inside the port in your device (be careful), but It isn't an issue you can't fix with small tweezers.

Teasing the pins up with a nail clipper worked a treat. I'd already tried pinching the wide surfaces of the plug a few times. It solved the problem briefly the first time then stopped. It's looking good this time. Thanks again.

In regards to cleaning out your port - I find that dental (soft) picks work really well. They're very small and most have a rubbery/plastic head with tiny bristles or protrusions. They're strong enough to grab all the crud but not so strong that they'll damage anything. If you aren't sure what I am talking about search GUMS dental picks and a picture will come up. Anything like that does a good job for cleaning tiny spaces and they (and other brands like them) are inexpensive and easy to find in grocery stores.

Here's what I did ...... I don't know how many Micro USB cables I bought trying to fix my Android phone. I wasn't too crazy about bending the clip on a brand new cable to get it to seat properly, it just didn't seem right to me. I saw another video related to the same problem where a guy makes a plastic cleaner and pries out the dust. In the video he says can air spray won't work because it would be able to clean out a certain area. I filled up my air compressor to 100lbs, shot it into the micro port, I didn't care because I was ready to throw the phone away. Brought back up stairs and the micro USB port connected PERFECT to the phone. Before I did that, no matter how hard I pushed I couldn't get the same exact cable and many others to stay tight and not fall out. After all my TH-cam searches and very thankful fixes, I hope I was able to pay back with a small contribution.

Great advice! I had first thought that the problem was with my Logitech H800 charger/battery. It was instead the cord. On my Amazon Basic cords, the 10 ft version has a wider cord and larger pins than the 6 ft version. I tried both methods, and the one that worked best on the 6 ft cord was #2, with the pliers. It now stays put, and it is charging my H800 Logitech headset.

I've just read (after an hour of searching) that those two pins are "friction locks".
My problem was that I bought a micro USB male adapter that had two immovable "bulges" jutted on the metal sheath (I don't know how to call them, maybe bumps, nobs, or ledges) , instead of springy locks/pins. So, nothing would fix them. I recommend to be attentive when buying such things =)
