The V-Rod was produced to "quieten" down the Japanese motorcycle loving sub community of the Harley Davidson family ! It proved to the motorcycle world that HD could move in that direction if needed ! HDMC chose to refine it's modern line-up to the more traditional path and roots the company is renowned for. I'm liking the new 2019 Line-Up a lot ! Ride Safe !
The Night Rod Special was the only Harley that convinced me to buy one. I own a 08 model and it’s my only bike now. Prior to the NRS I’ve owned Yamaha FJR, HoNda VFR, Ninja 1000R and a few smaller bikes
Same story. The only Harley I ever considered buying after owning sport bikes was a Night Rod Special. Bought an 08 and still have it. Its no sport bike, but its the closest you will get riding a Harley.
Lowered front was probably achieved using lowering springs rather than adjusting the forks in the triple tree. That's how I lowered my FZ6R, with a lowering link in the rear to match.
Heavily customised VRODs are very popular here in Australia particularly in the surrounding Sydney suburbs. “The Leb sled” consisting of large ape hangers, bagged rear end and lost of black or gold are also very popular.

One of the problems is that the break-in procedure in the beginning of the model run was different from a standard air-cooled Harley. So from what I've heard is that guys were burning up the engine. I always like the V-Rod especially the upside down forks on the street. I just found that was saddle was to hard and the suspension too harsh. But all in all it is a really cool bike.

I should get the “this part does not fit your bike” message on Revzilla tattooed on my face. DD Designs (or “Customs” maybe?) I believe will do custom fairings and cosmetic components; I imagine there are others. Custom/replacement seats are still possible. Engine is rock solid, so even going on 16 years, no issues. @@sjaatime well damn sorry to hear that. Thanks for replying though mate! My girlfriend just got me a 2007 suzuki boulevard m109r blue. Love it and her to bits.
Kawasaki Meanstreak, a bike I own was the first modern hyper cruiser/muscle cruiser, then Honda upped the anti w VTX 1800... which wowed everybody, then Yamaha introduced the Roadstar Warrior, and that bike stole the show...THEN Harley introduced the V-Rod. Though te V-Rod entered the field last, it was hands down the most technologically advanced, most powerful and forward thinking of the group, and while traditional Harley riders hated it...it WAS the bike that brought more new/younger traditionally metric riders over to Harley Davidson. When a bike's headlight alone creates fans, and starts a trend you know you're on to something, but Harley didn't respond to the displacement war with a bigger motor than the others, and that was a very interesting choice, they just made a better smaller displacement motor. Of all the iterations of the VRod, the Muscle is my favorite.
Even though this video is a tad old. I fell in love with the V-Rod when Harley Davidson first came out with it. I remember watching a documentary on the Discovery Channel about at and how Harley Davidson built the motorcycle from the ground up. I just love the way it looks! Even though I just started riding, my goal is to own one and love the hell out of it!
I own an Electra glide but I would love to have a breakout for solo riding. They look similar to the vrod but I like the frame and wheels on the breakout better.

This is the best Harley because the engine is designed by Porsche and it's the only engine that doesn't break or guzzles oil like gas and also has no leaks xD
My intruder has the false tank and you sit on the real one... Great design I think! I love that bike! It's low profile and easy to ride plus it feels awesome riding it. The mirrors are normal too! I'm gonna have to look at the v-rods now
I actually have inverted mirrors on my night rod and can see a lot more behind me. With top mirrors I usually get a big chunk of my shoulders blocking my view.
Up in Maine every Harley I see is a black bagger, everyone and their brother has a boring black bagger... Im not a Harley guy but if I was I'd get a V rod.... Love your videos... God Bless
Night Rod Special was the first Harley I ever owned and is still one of my favourites over the years. It was hated by the average Harley guy from 15 years ago, and those are the customers responsible for Harley dragging their feet since. Thankfully that's all about to change with the death of the Sportster and release of the Revolution Max bikes. Genuinely excited to see what happens in the next couple of years. Happily buy a new, less drag strip inspired bike from Harley-Davidson
I rode the Vrod at Sturgis the first year HD had it out. I didn't get to really experience the whole performance spectrum as I was on the chaperoned group ride. I loved the engine but I knew it wasn't going to be accepted by the old negative farts who don't like change. You can buy a nice Vrod on craigslist for real reasonable money. Fat rear tires are cool till you buy them, 1 dollar per millimeter.
I have a 06’ night rod. Coming from a sport bike background having bikes like CBR600rr, R1, KTM 1290 R, Triumph Daytona ect…. I can honestly say that these “V-rod platforms” are absolutely unique and awesome. Having a sport bike motor in a cruiser frame is just so fun and different it’s addicting.
I’m not a motorcycle person but I have heard more than once in my life growing up: “if Harley ever makes a water cooled engine I’ll never own one again.”.
The V Rod that I owned was a 2007 Night Rod and was the best bike that Harley Davidson ever produced. My bike had a 190 rear tyre and handled like it was on rails, the motor was designed by Porche as you say but responded well to a few tuning mods like a larger throttle body, ignition module, intake camshaft and exhaust system. The rear tyre on the later models are just too big and H D would have done better sticking with the 190 and a enjoying the bike for what a performance machine that it is.My V Rod was a 1130 cc variant but with the mods done could clean up a 1250 cc Model with ease.
Srkcycles Quote:("The engine was actually designed by Porsche, and then Harley said it was too smooth and they redesigned it to put a little vibration to it. ") (Chuckle) No-utter BS, people have been passing this rumor around for years, even in publications. It's suggesting that Porsche simply designed HD an engine and handed it to them to put in the frame, not the case. The engine in its raw form already existed before Porsche even came into the picture. It was originally the VR1000 engine HD was using to race with. In fact an early V-ROD prototype bike used the race engine unmodified. But the VR1000 engine was for racing and simply too expensive for production street use, so it had to be redesigned. This is where Porsche comes in the picture. However this was a "joint collaborative" effort between Porsche and HD engineers. Porsche didn't simply do all of the engine work for them. A documentary was made about the bike. th-cam.com/video/GpsGwZWvMf0/w-d-xo.html
I love my 2011 V-rod Muscle in silver. It looks badass and rides even better. No mods. Just added the HD passenger backrest and the HD rack, which honestly is so small it borders on impractical.
So I had a 2007 AW model with BUB Jug Huggers (sounds like this one does too, don't know if I missed you mentioning that) that were absolutely awesome btw... Stock tires were Dunlop, rear 240, I got about 8k miles on it before I changed to Metzlers with a rear 260, the widest I could fit in the stock a-arm. With the 240 I could corner so hard I'd scrape pegs. With the 260 it felt like it was gonna slide off the road. Hated it. When I first bought it I was the only one in my area that had one, so there were lots of interested traditional 'airheads' and I made a lot of friends. They actually had more good comments than bad, though none of them would admit to wanting to own one. Absolutely loved that bike for short distances, but the 3-4 hours long trips killed me. Eventually I bought an Ultra Classic.

I really wish Harley brought this bike back and this motor
There’s no reason for the Vrod not to live on!!!
Harley bring it back
The FXDR is a better bike
Especially when they're introducing 3 new liquid cooled bikes In 2020: A crotch rocket, and enduro/adventure bike, and what looks like a liquid cooled sportster. None of them using the vrods revolution engine. So pissed they stop making them. I will never get rid of My 08 Vrod custom
I just bought my first one and I am in love . 2003 100th anniversary .Black W/silver frame .9000 well cared for miles . All I need is a license . DMV is closed until further notice . Damn !
I managed to get my permit right before covid hit and my road tests kept getting cancelled. The bike was all I had and I still had to get to work so I just started riding. With reg, insurance and a permit, I figured I had 3/4 and it was clear i was trying to be legal. No issues but granted I'm on a rebel 250.. the least attention grabbing bike ever lol. I gotta start trying to schedule that test again.

I have a 09 VRod. ,it is a beautiful machine. Pretty quick. Sucks in rain.(huge tire). Ridged ride. Sounds great. Definitely the best mechanical harley ever made.
I’ve had my 2009 V Rod Muscle for 5 years and I love it the same amount as the day I bought it.
Dude I've had my 09 for 9 years and dito
Is it true they are very costly in maintenance and repairs ? People said they break down often and because bike isn't made anymore finding parts is hard ? How has ur experience been with the vrod ?
I love my VRod. 7 years with it and I'm hard pressed to sell it for a Road Glide.
@Rel16 I sold the VRod a month ago. I have too many bikes in the garage
@@roygherbil2660 i guess you didnt love it enough 😂
@roygherbil2660 Is it true they are very costly in maintenance and repairs ? People said they break down often and because bike isn't made anymore finding parts is hard ? How has ur experience been with the vrod ?
I'm loving the lines and style of that bike.
And I'm not a Harley fan.
Don't like choppers or ape hangers.
Drag or Cafe bars with low profile.... I'm game.
My main bikes he d Ace been gixxxers... I'm riding a Honda Shadow 1100.
But that Harley is looking sweet
Cafe bars are super uncomfortable
One of the problems is that the break-in procedure in the beginning of the model run was different from a standard air-cooled Harley. So from what I've heard is that guys were burning up the engine.
I always like the V-Rod especially the upside down forks on the street. I just found that was saddle was to hard and the suspension too harsh. But all in all it is a really cool bike.
The very best VRod is the VRod street rod. H-D made a big mistake dumping this bike. They are highly regarded in Europe, Australia and parts of Asia.
Charles Nash Amen brother, I have an 06’ VRSCR and it’s the most remarkable machine.. still my daily driver.
@@BishopDelicious I just found an '06 Street Rod w/ 6500 mi for $6900. I wouldn't pay that much, but, I've had 2 Sportsters, and would like this one for sale. Never seen one, though.
@@BishopDelicious How is parts availability?
@@filoIII Truthfully, not great at all. Most of the core stuff is standard on enough bikes that dealerships will have them (or can get them). Aftermarket stuff is almost nonexistent at this point. Runs like a rabid beast. I absolutely recommend the bike. I’d just say (unless you know someone or have a ton of $$ to throw at it)… probably should like it the way it is when you get it.
@@filoIII I think that’s about what I paid in 2016 for my 06. Maybe had less miles, would have to check the title. I’m just rolling over 20k without any issues (splits time with other bikes). Was my daily driver for a few years though, never even a rough start.
The best HD ever. Simply because HD had nothing to do with it! 😊
HD guys, "That isn't a real Harley. It's smooth, powerful, reliable with an innovative design." You are darn right. It is nothing like a Harley, no wonder they quit making it.
Harley-Davidson is the biggest cosplay company in the world. It's mostly a bunch of old guys who want to pretend to be in Sons of Anarchy. Lol

My first bike was a. Night rod. Absolutely loved that bike. Not great for long rides but ripping around town was AWSOME. It’s a shame This thing never caught on. It was very well engineered, ran well, fun to ride and looked AWSOME. Not much aftermarket for it and the aggressive riding position with forward pegs, well you either loved it or hated it.
There's one for sale around me for CHEAP and I'm really considering getting myself a second bike
Did you do it. Just saw this comment and now I want to know the conclusion.

Best Harley is V rod. End.
Harley Guys hated my V-Rod Muscle until riding with them I pulled away from them at a light like they were on bicycles 🤣
After that they all liked it.
Just makes me love my Vrod nightrod with widow slip ons, fuel pack and high flow air filter...mine growls maybe even louder than this one
I own a 2015 breakout,it has a similar backtire, and i always get asked about it. I love the way ot looks
I own an Electra glide but I would love to have a breakout for solo riding. They look similar to the vrod but I like the frame and wheels on the breakout better.
I had an 05 vrscb that I put 16” apes on! I sold it to my friend so I still get to see her, but it was actually pretty cool. Got a lot of comments on her! Thanks for your videos and better yet, the ”words of wisdom”. God bless brother!
I've got a Vmax, but I want a Vrod for a "custom" build that won't leave my damn mind.
I also have a Vmax (2015) and nothing can touch it in my eyes but a Vrod would definitely be a close second!!!
This is the best Harley because the engine is designed by Porsche and it's the only engine that doesn't break or guzzles oil like gas and also has no leaks xD
Just wondering , What are the first two most hated Harley's ?
Probably the Livewire and the Street 500 are the top 2
My intruder has the false tank and you sit on the real one... Great design I think! I love that bike! It's low profile and easy to ride plus it feels awesome riding it. The mirrors are normal too! I'm gonna have to look at the v-rods now
Those mirrors are great for looking at your knees🤣
I actually have inverted mirrors on my night rod and can see a lot more behind me. With top mirrors I usually get a big chunk of my shoulders blocking my view.
Haha
I don’t get why people hate vrods. They’re one of the most badass Harley’s imo
Luv the power of the vrod...good power spread with top end pull.
What is heaven on earth?
A Harley Davidson with a Porsche engine on a German Autobahn
There is one for sale near me for $3,000 I wish I was in a position to buy it, but I guess 6 bikes is enough.
I wish I could afford one
3K? Does it have a big gaping hole in the case?

Up in Maine every Harley I see is a black bagger, everyone and their brother has a boring black bagger... Im not a Harley guy but if I was I'd get a V rod.... Love your videos... God Bless
This was the only Harley I wanted until the sport glide.
It's literally the engine that should be in every frame harley makes idk what they are doing. -biased vrod owner
WTF, you didn’t open it up once! What’s the point in test riding a V Rod, Harley’s Muscle Bike and not opening here up once?
30ish mph aint a test ride worst test ever
I have a 2007 Night Rod Special. I ordered it in October 2006. Received it in March 2007. It is an awesome bike. Gets looks and comments all the time.
Im one of the OLD GUY's But I Liked the V Rod i just wanted a windshield and Bags. Mid Controls.
I agree with the mid controls the stock ones are too far forward
They made mid control fitted models... the street-rod has middies on it
AND A 6sp. transmission
i dont hate them there one of my fave harleys bc i like porshe engines 😂 porshes engineering is amazing and they can run forever and also be fun!
Love vrod.. I have one and its really A great beast!
The only thing lacking is sound. Bike scares me just looking at it. Let alone riding it. Tough as hell looking. Love it great video.

Quote:("The engine was actually designed by Porsche, and then Harley said it was too smooth and they redesigned it to put a little vibration to it. ")
(Chuckle) No-utter BS, people have been passing this rumor around for years, even in publications.

I love my 2011 V-rod Muscle in silver. It looks badass and rides even better. No mods. Just added the HD passenger backrest and the HD rack, which honestly is so small it borders on impractical.
I love V Rods!
People are just picky in the Harely world.
*the fastest Harley to leave the production line.. Still to this day
I was surprised when he said that! What do you think of the 2021 Sportster S?
@@conker1oo Have to see it up close to tell for sure.. pictures it kinda looks like a mini vrod (vrscf). Not really sure if I'll ever call it a "sportster".. but at least they are trying... Ha
I didn't know the older Harley guys didn't like these. Makes sense to me now, the majority of riders i see in Sydney have shaved chicken legs, rats tail hair cut and white frame Prada sunglasses from 2003 doing a massive powerskid across 2 lanes every green light. Impressive power no doubt. The older guys are still riding their pushrods on the weekends.

Sadly, it's hated. Don't sell or hold value in the us.
It's actually favorite and my top pick if I ever wanted a Harley, followed close by the fat boy. To bad they don't make them anymore.

Hi guy's, I've been doing some research and found more info on how to increase the HP in your V-Rod. A company in Sydney, Australia by the name of
Darkside Custom Harleys makes a supercharger kit that will easily increase your HP to 200 plus horsepower. I don't know the cost of the whole kit, however,
you can see one of their videos if you go to: Darkside Supercharger Kit by Darkside Custom Harleys. These guy's also make superchargers for the Milwaukee
