Harley as a brand only does well when sentiment of calling yourself an American does well.

Loved my 04 reliable orange V-Rod bought new in 2008! I had it for 2 years put 18,000 miles on it, absolutely no issues.
I also loved my 2010 Fat Bob bought new in 2010. It was an amazing motorcycle for about a month or two, then the issue started. It was in the shop multiple times. I had the Fat Bob for 5 years and when I sold it, it only had 5,400 miles on it! The bike just couldn’t be trusted to ride anywhere, very disappointing. I Iove to ride HD, but the reliability in my experience is just spotty except for the V-Rod.

Awesome review, I love VRods. I'd like to pick up a Night Rod one day.
A common misconception that was reiterated in this video is that Porsche designed the engine. The engine is based on the HD VR1000 race engine, Porsche was brought in to jointly work with HD to make the engine more streetable. It was not a new design, but rather a refinement of an existing HD engine. Porsche has a history of making high performance, liquid-cooled street engines, so HD tapped into that expertise. Also they had previously worked together in the late 70's/ early 80's on the project Nova motorcycles.
The only speculation I would have as to why HD would let you order a VRod after production ended, would be because they had a surplus of parts remaining. That would allow them to reduce VRod parts inventory after the production line shut down.

I bought a 2007 Nightrod Special. I not a big fan of “look at me” rides. If I’d only known. I used to have people follow me to find out what kind of bike it was. I’d go to a store and come out to find 3 or 4 guys standing there looking at the bike. That bike attracted way more attention that I expected. Only bike I ever owned with forward pegs. Not fun when you get up to triple digits. But, I loved riding that bike.

After growing up around HD's all my life, I believe the oil leak was due to lack of maintenance for one, but also the fact that they were air cooled, and some would over heat their bikes and destroy the gaskets or even warp some of the components.

My 1988 Harley with the Evolution motor does not "leak" oil but it does have a crankcase breather hose that "vents" behind the bottom of the engine. Some oil maybe vented along with the pressure. My 1973 Shovelhead did not "leak" oil but it had, in addition to the crankcase vent also had automatic chain oilers for both the primary and final drive chains. The Shovelhead primary case had an overflow hole for "discharging" excess oil. And the final drive automatic chain oilers would continue to drop awhile after being parked. But none of that is "leaking.". Leaking infers a defect. These are intentional.

I purchased this exact bike. I can not say enough good things about this bike or SRK cycles. I bought this during the Covid lockdown and Caleb went out of his way to meet my needs and work out delivery.
I'm a traditional Harley guy ( carbed EVO's, baggers, Sportsters) and believe when I tell you this bike is GREAT. As long as you want a Muscle Bike you'll love it. It won't handle like a crotch rocket nor does it float like a touring bike. However, it is rather fast and I find it very comfortable, even after a few hundred miles in one afternoon. Bike fits me like a glove, runs great, rides great, looks great !!!
BTW Thanks for NOT removing the Cycle Sounds speakers and amp, they sound fantastic.

Can't see myself parting with this bike. Between the 240 rear tire and the rake the bike has "unique" handling characteristics. Nothing too BAD but a bit odd . If your a Harley guy, your biggest hurdle is keeping the revs higher than you're used too. Hold full throttle past 6,000 up to 9,000 and it pulls HARD!
I'm sure the new Sportster S is a wild ride. Keep in mind a lot of these V-Rods are almost 20 years old and their performance numbers are still impressive.

The one time I did lay into it, it was still pulling at 135 before my personal lack of testicular-mass and proper riding gear bade me to back off. As Harley's go, the thing was an iron fist in a velvet glove.
In the future, when all the old school H-D guys are either dead-and-gone or puttering around retirement communities on their $30K, extended mobility H-D trikes, these things are going to come into their own with a new generation as very important and collectable bikes.

I own a 2007 VRSCX V Rod #286. They only made 1400 of them and is considered the fastest production street legal bike Harley ever built. It is dubbed the "Street Destroyer" after the Harley drag bike that is the Destroyer. I would love to see a video comparing the stock Vrod to a VRSCX. I have added a 2 into one super trap exhaust system, a Moto Hooligan super breather, and I need to add a tuner but keep waiting for a reliable aftermarket one to come along. I have owned this bike for over 15 years, and not sure I could ever sell it. 😊

It took harley, who has been making motorcycles for over 100 years, Porsche to help develop the engine?
So they FINALLY made a decent engine, but the traditionalists hated it because it worked!
The only trouble with the Vrod is the over all design. They had to try to make it look cool.
So they raked it way too far and made it head heavy. Which it is heavy also. That's not good to be a drag bike and heavy. It will beat some Imports that are of the same caliber. But not all.
The Vmax which was introduced in 85', the Vrod was compared to decades later. That's not a real accomplishment.
It should have wiped them easily! It's too bad harley has to be the embarrassment of the motorcycle industry.
Representing American technology, it sure disappoints...

I wanted one. Bought a shadow sabre 1100. I prefer water cooled for long days stuck in stop n go traffic for 2 hrs in 98 degree heat.

Get that bike to an authorized dealer for brake service. DOT 4 brake fluid draws moisture, and it has affected your system. If non ABS you can change your own fluid and own fluid. ABS has to go to a dealer because it takes a special machine to purge and bleed the system. It's what was wrong with the bike I bought from you guys. 2012 Ultra limited. Brake fluid is to be changed every 2 years. You can do it at home if it's not locked up in the system, but once locked up (1/2 inch of travel in the front brake lever). Just don't let the reservoir go empty.

Have a buddy that comes from overseas every couple years to ride around. Has a v-rod and loves it. Never owned one myself but rode his for him. Such a different ride, smooth, even it’s tone, sure footed and agile. Same reason I never really got into Indian bikes, they were too smooth (I don’t know if that makes sense) but this bike is like an Indian with nitrous on steroids. You feel much more forward and on top of the bike, comes in handy when your throttle wrist gets playful.
I can tell you after putting on 3.5k to 5K miles on his two week visits to ride, he always says how crazy comfortable it is. You should see how he packs it down, 🤪👍🏼

The vrod throttle sticking is due to the "cruise control" I own a vrod and it does the same thing, just unscrew the cruise control

I agree, I have an 09 XR1200 and that is another Harley that harley riders hate, I have learned one thing in my 7 years of ownership, if harley riders hate it, it is a GREAT bike. Those sweating panting leather daddies with their skull and crossbones ball gags can keep there paintshaking bikes, the VROD like my XR1200 is appreciated by regular riders.

One of my riding buddies has a 2010 Vrod. Very cool bike but he’s had some weird mechanical issues considering the care it gets and low mileage. Harley Davidson in their wisdom has seemingly abandoned it for parts support and availability. It took 6 months to get a water pump...
