You can thank TaNehisi Coates. In the comics they found the cure to cancer but refused to share it with the white man under his watch. Dude is a grade A douchebag so I don't blame the writers, they have to work with the trash country they're given.
What’s really tragic about T’Challa as a character is that his arc in Civil War was a thousand times better than anything he does in his own solo movie.
Actually Chadwick's character was much more interesting and respectable outside of his own movie. In Civil War we see him on a vendetta to hunt down the antagonist after his father is killed in the bombing and by the end after he's seen all the harm acts of revenge has on everyone else, he decides to let it go and imbrace justice over vengeance. Fast forward to his own movie and he never even attempts to correct the wrong that Killmonger was victim to. He never tries to tell Killmonger that he can come back to Wakanda. Maybe that simple gesture could have changed some dynamics but since Black Panther is suppose to be an inspiring hero, you expect him to at least attempt to do the right thing but he never does in that movie.
A thing that annoyed me a lot is how the combined armies of Wakanda and the blue people - two of the world’s most ‘powerful nations’ - is like 200 people
It's comical, and not in the good sense: I'm pretty sure we could take them. Heck, Wokeanda would be swarmed and completely surrounded by migrant camps at this point.
Also gotta love how they care about human rights but did nothing to stop their fellow African neighbors from selling each other to the evil “white man”.
No way Wakanda is stronger than America from what we have seen. They didn't even have projectile weaponry until the Infinity War writers retconned the spears.
They're both hidden nations that haven't mixed with the rest of the world, and haven't needed to fight many battles prior to getting involved with the mcu, so yea they wouldn't have a giant military, it would be overkill, but the military they do have is very skilled so in that sense they are stronger than the average enlisted 18 y/o
The movie was pretty much rotating between three things: "This is just Black Panther 1 plot", "Look, we have mesoamerican Wakanda now, complete with magic rock, magic plant, isolationism, hating colonialism but doing nothing about it, but a more stupid arm gesture", and "I miss Poochie".
I agree with your more recent video on this that Wakanda as an idea is deeply troubling. It pushes racial segregation as a magical cure all to the ills of people of African descent. And it basically tells anyone not ok with this to shut up then calls all white people colonizers. It's honestly a really racist foundation for a movie!
The whole “good guy suddenly and inexplicably decides the bad guy was right all along at the last second without any detectable buildup” trope was also trotted out in Falcon & the Winter Soldier. What the bollocking hell is with this trend?
They didn't even respect Chadwick enough to follow through with the ending of Black Panther one, when he said they would open Wakana up to the world and share their technology.
They only shoe horned her into the story because they have her show coming out and they have to try and get people interested in an otherwise boring and obnoxious character.
@@TGuard00014 boring, yes, but just bc she had no time to develop, but why obnoxious? She's a college freshman that was kidnapped by the wakandian government as she was getting ready to go to class and then threatened to be killed by another hidden nation of blue warriors...so her reactions to the shenanigans seem pretty valid to me
@@amygarcia2202 I meant in the comics she’s a boring obnoxious character so they can’t depend on comic book readers to bring views to her tv show because she was a pretty big flop. So they put her in a movie she shouldn’t be in to try and get people interested in her show. I don’t think it worked.
@@amygarcia2202 Eh. What's-her-face from Temple of Doom screaming at everything is also valid, but that doesn't mean she wasn't obnoxious. Realism is good but that doesn't mean every realistic thing is a good idea to put in a movie.
Thanks for making it clear what my problem was with the intro of the film was...the weird whiplash between the very somber death the the hard cut to the celebration, it felt wrong somehow. You pointed out how it was trying to do two things at once, the very poignant memorial for Chadwick vs. the wacky woohoo marvel shenanigans, and its to the detriment of the whole film. The intro was emblematic of one of the problems with the movie. And yeah, Nah-Mor is very silly here and I think we'll align on his 5000IQ chess plays lmfao.
I am *still* trying to work out what the hell his plan was supposed to be. The only options I’m left with are “the writers kinda forgot” and “he was just winging it”. Both of these are shit.
@@Jujuonthatmoomoo As an African, I do think they should have had somebody give a speech about celebrating his life so it's not just sudden death then a hard cut to dancing
Not explained in the film, the flowers are only supposed to work for the royal bloodline (highly toxic to outsiders), and then the Magical Panther Goddess has to accept you, in some versions you can call upon her aid for temporary extra strength/speed/powers.... but for some reason in a world with this stuff and Thor, and Dr. Strange, and Thanos, Shuri has Absolute Faith that magic does not exist.
I really liked Namor's Aztec aesthetic but he couldnt be less intimidating in those green shorts. The little quidditch ball wings in his ankles didn't add any fear factor either.
This Namor is not Aztec, he and his people are based on Mayan cultures, and it IS a very important distinction (Mayans and Aztecs are as different as Romans and Greeks). He is meant to be the MCU version of Kukulkan, a Mayan God, similar to how Thor is the MCU version of a Nordic God. This, however, is contradictory with Love and Thunder Lore and worldbuilding because supposedly all ancient Gods are extraterrestrial beings, but only Kukulkan is a mutant? We even saw Quetzalcoatl in Love and Thunder, as far as I remember. Seems a bit strange to me. Anyhow, in my opinion, It would have made more sense to base the city of Talokan on another more obscure Caribbean indigenous group, because those groups were fully wiped out by Europeans and it would make a lot more sense to have a secret culture from a group believed to be extinct rather than a Mayan-like group, because Mayans are real people that still exist to this day and age within a country with a a lot of infrastructure and years of research and coexistence with and regarding mesoamerican cultures. I mean, the Gulf of Mexico and good portion of the Atlantic have already been explored by both Mexicans and Americans (and practically every other western nation at this point) for more than a century searching for oil. If the movie wants me to believe that neither ever found Vibranium, let alone a full city made of it, at the depths they apparently live at, then they expect us the audience to really turn off our brains. It’s even more insulting considering that the Mayan group that became Talokan found the plant under the sea at a reasonable enough depth for a regular person to swim and get it. If the Spanish or the Novo Spanish never found it, I can sort of believe it, but I don’t buy that Mexicans, Brits or Americans didn’t find it in the XIX-XXth century. If there really was Vibranium somewhere else in the world besides Central Africa, it would have been found. Sorry for the long rant, I only wanted to point out that this Namor is Mayan, not Aztec haha
The way they’re going about mourning Chadwick Boseman’s death is kinda weird- he died without publicly revealing his illness, yet here they are trumpeting that fact through his character in the film. Is that the proper way to mourn his death? Wouldn’t it have being to his wishes if they had an honorable mention in the credits while casting another to fill the role? Or structuring a plot around T’Challa die fighting off a threat to Wakanda, instead of passing away by an illness?
What I didn't understand is Namor doesn't want the vibranium to be found but drops the vibranium finder off in Wakanda so it can be back engineered. Didn't even destroy it, check the ship logs for information on who created it and where it came from just asked Wakanda to figure it out and they couldn't even do it without ,as we heard a handful of times their favorite colonizer. Then they gave Namor Aquaman powers so he can just be dried out with home Depot heaters.
The movie is so stupid. The underwater people could have just looked for the scientist themselves. There was no reason to involve the people of Wakanda. I mean, they do end up going to the surface world anyways when they try to get the scientist from the Wakanda soldiers. Apparently they didn't care about being seen, since they start attacking the police who are chasing the girls. Why not just wait until the scientist girl is taken back to Wakanda before attacking?
@@nerychristian Also is more dumb.namor wanted to conquer all the surface world with 200guys with wooden Spears..and those talocans are vulnerable to bullets..
Wakanda would have had a good reason to mass produce the flower goo too if the film had remembered that everyone under Namor was supposed to be superhuman. Instead they made Namor a one man army and his defeat entirely contrived. But overall the film was a mess and came very close to making Wakanda the new Berlin if you take my meaning.
I’m always ready to hear more of your caustic wit, brobdingnagian vocabulary, and über dry delivery! Thank you for this video - I’m looking forward to the longer one as well. Do you have any more ROP content planned? I’m glad you mentioned that you have this second channel. Subscribed!
It may be callous, but the mourning of Boseman is so over-played, much like Paul Walker. They were nice people, sure, but they were actors that most never personally knew. I'm sick of the film industry whoring out Chadwick's passing for cheap nostalgia and emotional investment.
The choice they made about how to homage Boseman is one of the reasons why I didn’t want to watch this movie. I think mixing fiction and reality this way is a horrible idea.
It's odd that they've used the second film to pay tribute to the memory of Black Panther, because every other scene in the first film served to demonstrate how Blank Panther was, in fact, inferior to all the female characters... his sister is far more intelligent, there's a badass female warrior who's a better fighter, etc.
Looking forward to watching this and your next big review. It can be a veritable feast getting to watch something really long, like your recent Rings of Power videos, or just nice getting something shorter, like this. I was just wondering if you'll be reviewing the new Avatar film when it comes out?
@@LostChord Awesome. I'm very much looking forward to that! A film 13 years in the making, so I'm very curious to see what you and others think of it. Actually a new, animated Avatar: The Last Airbender film on the way, too.
Tchalla got blipped during _Infinity War_ . Wakanda had 5 years to mourn their lost king before he magically returned in _End Game_ . Did we see any of this? Any reference to 'we thought him dead once before'. Does Chadwick appear in the purple Wakafterlife? This is nothing but Marvel coat-tailing a dead man's image and legacy.
This happens when people believe they can make the connected cinematic universe which involves sh*t like magical snaps and multiverse with no mistakes. It can never work. Sooner or later the inconsistencies in canon will pile up to the point everyone will notice them. They should have stuck to stand alone movies, or trilogies at max.
Shrui in my opinion was one of the problems in the movie (in the end at least before you can see she was mourning but in the end she became selfish) she is never held accountable for many of the problems she had caused and I think the only reason she won in the end was because she was the main protagonist sure (spoilers) You can argue T'Challa in the first movie came off as a revenge driven mad man which he was completely justified in doing so as was tony stark but you can at least say none of them dragged other people into their revenge war path Shuri at least killed half of her army and would have most likely killed them all if she didn't "Miraculously" survive an impaling.
Oh man Phase 4... what the hell happened? On the plus side though, it's a lot cheaper to be entertained by the good youtube creators tearing it apart than going to the cinema, so keep up the good work sir!
while watching this with my 7 year old daughter, when she saw the blue people swimming around in their city, she said "ohh my god, it's the new AVATAR movie" LOL
Exactly my thoughts when i sat in theater. Especially when the avatar way of water trailer has a lot of the same aesthetics, and was played right before the start of the movie. Such a shame lol.
@@CrazyManwich Although I will argue that "it's in the comics" isn't always a good excuse, especially not when the MCU is very much NOT loyal to the comics. If they were always trying to stick to them, okay, but they take some massive liberties in some areas, and yet maintain certain details in others that maybe they SHOULD change because they don't quite translate to film very well, like Namor's adorable little wings that really undermine whatever menace he's supposed to have.
Looking forward to seeing your content on here. I was really pleased to hear you taking the plunge and handing in your notice, as I love your videos! I'm sure you will be a great success.
Shuri should have never been made into Black Panther. That's not what fans want. Recasting T'Challa was the way to go, but because they've gone all feminist in Disney Marvel, they just have to replace T'Challa with Shuri, and Tony Stark with Riri. It didn't work in the comics, and it won't work in the movies.
I'm probably wrong, but it seems like past writers / creatives did a better job of continuity and avoiding world-breaking elements. It ought to be completely embarrassing for studios when casual fans can point out such errors - but we have lived for a while now in an era of where comedy writers routinely break the established universe for the sake of making a single lame joke (see Family Guy). Add to this nepotism, virtue signaling being more important than story, and a de-valuing of the role of writers, and we should not be surprised that we are where we are these days.
The studios know that these movies are losing money. But they don't care. They would rather lose money than to hire more intelligent, or non woke writers. They love the power they have over people's minds. They know that movies are ultimately just entertaining propaganda.
"At least, in this case, we know where the money went." Savage! In reference to the money spent on Black Panther II vs BLM. Again, savage! And I love it!
Probably best for the actor he died as otherwise, Disney would have killed him one way or another as they've killed all the other male leads, thus he never got the chance to fail and thus lives on forever as "potential" rather than reality.
It’s a *very* different experience. Nice being able to turn them around in a few hours as opposed to a few days! But I’ll not be dropping the usual format.
Everything you said I've been trying to articulate myself and make into a video but I just don't know how to lmaooo, can't wait for the full version on the main channel
I still remember the one video where you said you preferred things to be “long” and then put a picture of a big banana😂. I enjoy your longform videos but this short form is dope. 5 to 12 minutes is a perfect amount of time for a quick review. Great job!
I like getting to just hear your reviews. Be it short or long does not concern me because I can listen to you at work when I sometimes sit in silence for hours. Also this movie has very few good scenes, everything else was just out right predictable. The Queen had more presence then Shuri as the next Black Panther. Chadwick was a very sad loss.
These movies are little more than modern minstrels. Parade you around and say yaayyy you rock.... meanwhile make you look like a fool to those who understand and have the wit to see through the false pageantry. These movies are made to belittle mock and devide people especially blacks
This movie is even more laughable when you consider the fact we are talking about a world with nations that not only obtained futuristic alien tech, time travel and extremely advanced nano-tech but also time and mind bending magical powers and abilities that's aren't just limited to Dr.Strange but multiple people all around the world, so not even the combined forces of Wakanda and Aztec Atlantis can even leave a dent in that kind of world (and that's not even mentioning conventional weapons of war like tanks, jet fighters, battleships and nukes) Yet the movie acts like they would be a legitimate threat somehow to the world, as if we are talking about the real world outside the movies not the version in the MCU which should be very different, that's how utterly sloppy the writing in the MCU have become (and Riri is nothing but a watered down version of Shuri + Tony, and that's the rotten cherry on the crap cake that is this movie)
In a sea of massively long reviews this is a good middle ground that I didn’t know I needed. I can take in the short form and if I’m not satisfied I can then go to the long form.
Phase 5 Avengers: Riri Williams America Chavez She-Hulk Ms. Marvel Kate Bishop Jane Foster Thor or Valkyrie Aren't you all looking forward to Phase 5 soooo much?
When you talked about the things in the movie that were stupid just to move the plot along reminded me of another popular TH-cam channel. "Why...?" "Because I need the movie to happen." LOL!
Namor could’ve worked out some for the movie since, ya know, he has his shirt off all movie. There are so many cringe scenes in this movie. “You brought a spear in here”. “My people call me (whatever the hell he said), but my enemies call me…Namor” (saying it in the least scary/intimidating way possible). Namor was terrible and it’s so concerning that Jeff Loveness expresses being excited to write for Namor having big part in Kang Dynasty. Oh, please no. Cassie Lang, Namor, Iron Heart, and She-Hulk do not belong in Kang Dynasty. They might be fine actors here or there, but they stink at portraying these characters. They are flat. No depth. Robotic. Simply just annoying as hell. What a good way to make RDJ Iron Man look like a idiot with trying to force Iron Heart in this manner.
Im proud to have been one of the earliest subscribers of contemporary TH-cam Bloomsbury Set member. Little Platoon and look forward two content from his new channel
Mind you, I think it was said of the Bloomsbury Group that lived in squares, painted in circles and f-ed in triangles, which is bit too wild for my tastes!
I feel bad for the L Platoon. Once upon a time we needed video essays to explain why a film didn't sit well with us. Or what the film ending meant on different levels. Of late, the stoopid is so extreme and obvious that a low metacritic review is met with "duh, of course it hurls chunks". How is it that the more free, insightful, unsolicited advice Hollywood receives from YT, the worse its movies get....
I'd like to point out that Paul Rudd, a man in his mid 50's had to get ripped for his character's movie... yet the star of this movie weighs maybe 100 pounds soaking wet. Maybe she should get some tips from Angela Bassett cuz she's in her 60's and looks amazing.
You're going to body shame a young woman who's grieving the loss of her brother and faces the challenges of another nation going to war with her people...not even that, you're expecting an actress to bulk up for a movie people seem to hate on anyways
I never saw nor wanted to see the second movie. I thought the first was a ok marvel movie not the best in writing or plot and killmonger was as deep as a puddle not a complex and let alone sympathetic villian alot push him as. He was a black hitler. I do admit it is annoying how the sentiment of the first movie, least from what I have seen, about how hatreds bad, unity is good and we should avoid being greedy or racist somehow with some of the poc fans got twisted to this idea of black supremacy, white people are colonizers ( though everyone colonized so trying to label it a white thing is as dumb as labeling slavery a white thing), that black people would be this advanced and better off away from all other races and that black people are really superior and black panther ( a character written by two jewish white men) is just for them and the black community only. Its really sad. From what I have seen of this movie it seems like the director and writers of the second did not take the sentiment of the first and instead went with the mindset of the pocs who got twisted the message of the first one. I mean in this one within short order you have the new Queen of wakanda, why there was no trial by combat to make a new king or such I have no idea, breaking the word of t'challa and removing wakanda back to being a secluded cut off ethnostate. You have them brazenly breaking laws of sovriegn nations. Not to mention Chadwick wanted them to cast another person to play the role to keep the character alive but that was of course ignored. One thing I always found "entertaining" about the fans of the movie and so on who push this idea that wakanda, despite trial by combat for leader, a king having full control and authority and the willingness to ignore starving and suffering neighbors whom they could easily help, is that they push this idea that wakanda is the most advanced, moral and perfect society. It literally has a wall and will kill outsiders if they somehow manage to get in. Wakanda is a ethnostate, that ignores suffering of their neighbors while having more then enough means to help with the sickness or famine, feels they are superior to all others and do not care about laws of sovriegn nations and so on. It is a morally backwards place that made trumps desire to build a wall minor by comparison. By all measure it is a dream society of any racial supremacist. I would love to see a movie where wakanda ignores a nations laws and does what it wants only to have said nation and others knock them down several pegs for that ego. From what i have heard and seen of the second it continues to push the us verse them mentallity and tries to depict Namor as a anti-hero and empathetic despite him wanting to commit mass genocide on innocent people. Not a hero, not someone I sympathize with nor really should anyone just a madman that needs to be put down. At least black panther , the first one, had a message of unity and hatred and racism wrong while this one seems to be if your white your just evil and if your not your oppressed, despite any magic space rock and powers you have, by the said white man or colonizers. First had a message of hate is wrong, racism is wrong and unity this one its ok to hate, its ok to be racist and we should divide folks.
We’re constantly being told that we must see ourselves on screen before we can emotionally connect with a hero. I do not see myself on screen in a Black Pander movie, therefore I cannot invest, using the logic of the day. Perhaps, if the narrative surrounding Blacksploitation movies such as this were, say, that we should all strive to be the hero we see, and not the melanin content, then I may have enjoyed myself more. Sadly, our Hollywood masters have declared the situation, thus
I wish they made namor a cholo stereotype. That would have been funny. And if they really wanted to be brave they should have made Bucky the king of wakanda
They kind of have with the Spanish accent. Given that Atlanti- I mean, "Talocan" is isolated, where would he have picked that up? Not that it's explained why he's speaking English at all, or why the Wokeandans speak it among themselves. Eh, too much think, just consume content.
@@rogerborg the actor is mexican, so that's where his accent is coming from, plus both speak in their own languages throughout the film, I wouldn't mind if that's all they spoke bc the subtitles are very helpful during those scenes, but I guess the majority of people would prefer the film over all to be mostly in English also for those who can't read subtitles maybe?? And the film is American, so yea....
5:40 Just to be a little more accurate to the source material everyone's been ignoring this year. Those silly goop flowers can only be ingested by Wakanda nobility. It could kill anyone else. All of the former Panthers were kings of Wakanda and had to survive trials including ingesting the herb to become Black Panther. This movie was handled Shamelessly Wrong on so many levels. Shaming fans, attacking fans and dare I say using the late great Chadwick Boseman's passing to fill seats. The last two movies I saw in the theater were No Way Home and Multiverse Madness. After watching the once Sorcerer Supreme take a back seat to Scarlet Witch in his own movie, it became obvious that agendas and everything else became more important than adherence to any source material. I'm pretty done with Marvel/DC/Universal/Warner Bros and the whole lot of them. Not that they'll need my little movie ticket........all they've shown is THEY'VE GOT MONEY TO BURN.
Ironheart isn't a character because they're literally not allowed to, they have to leave as much of a blank slate as possible for the Ironheart show team, while at the same time trying to build some hype in the audience for what is ultimately, an unpopular character.
I am indeed! Still pleasantly surprised so far. Not perfect, but much better than I was expecting. I’ll do another video once the series closes. Depending how much work I have on, it may be another short video on this channel.
So the question is, did Boseman's death ruin the film by forcing massive rewrites, or save the film by giving them the fodder to actually do something remotely meaningful and touching instead of the usual slop, not to mention drive viewership for emotional reasons? Because goddamn would it feel gross if Boseman was the unintentional martyr for a declining MCU and saved a film that would have been a disappointing sequel to an already mediocre original movie.
worst marvel movie yet. everything sucks. after i left cinema i sed with raised voice "go go power rangers" and nearly every1 understood what i wanted to say about this. i did not watch trailers so i thought it will be a surprise for me. i was sure namor will be Luke Evans he was born for that role!! look at him he is real life NAMOR!! but no they took some random guy. and the movie the idea acting OMG. anyway hope i won't see stuff like that from marvel in the future.
It's pretty racist to choose another black person to be the next Black Panther. They clearly should have replaced him with a white lesbian feminist. Awful
To paraphrase from Thorias Unlimited (very underrated), this movie was more concerned about mourning Chadwick's death than making a good story. Obviously, everybody misses him, but it's been two years guys. At least the politics weren't as high with this one as She-Hulk and it did take itself far more seriously than the likes of Thor: Love and Thunder. But other than that, this movie is just bizarre in a lot of places. Like when Shuri drinks a certain thing that takes her to a certain place where she meets a certain someone. That was the biggest what the heck moment in any movie I've scene recently, and I watched Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Adam. Good in some places, messy and derivative in others.
Her making the thing and then drinking the thing was pretty out there, but her seeing the somebody wasn't, it was an interesting subversion of what you thought would happen and explains where her head was at after feeling seemingly abandoned by her family, she wanted to revenge but didn't want to admit it even after the meeting with that somebody, it was so cool
It honestly just felt like an excuse to get that certain star into the movie. I know it was to Rian Johnson our expectations (even though everybody who knows Disney and Marvel at this point saw this coming from a mile away), but it was still so weird and out of left field.
They hoped that if people didn't like the preaching of Woke ideology, we would feel obligated to like the movie in memory of Chadwick. It's disgusting that they use his death as a crutch. And a little evil, using a good man who passed away before his time like that. In fact without the Chadwick tributes, it's the 2nd worst MCU film so far behind Captain Plank, er sorry Captain Marvel. So Worst to best. 1.captain marvel 2. Wokeanda forever 3. The first Black Panther 4. Multivariate 5. Thor Love and Thunder
It’s a good plan! Now also post all your stuff to Rumble. 😉 At least three of the channels I watch had to use Rumble recently for pissing off TH-cam. Might as well grow both early on. I’m not a fan of Rumble’s interface or tech (they have a ways to go), but I am a fan of less censorship and freedom of speech.
Very kind! LostChord has actually been my screen name pretty much since the day I first became pretentious. Which is to say, right from the beginning! It has an equally pretentious story. I may reveal it if this channel ever takes off.
The movie was completely boring, and it introduced characters that felt unnecessary, if you're a fan of the first film, don't go see Wakanda forever, it's a big waste. The first Black Panther is more fun to watch.
As a woman, I’m tired of these false and “perfect” female superheroes. It’s honestly more insulting to females to say that we’re all just so flawless and smart. Gender does NOT define intelligence. I loved Iron Man, Captain America, Thor. Stop pushing toxic feminism, Hollywood!
It's rather crazy what some people think feminism is. Feminism doesn't mean all women are smart and perfect, feminism doesn't mean women want men to die and leave the planet forever, and feminism doesn't mean give a character no personality but use the fact that she's female to say it's okay. Marvel needs to learn these things, and the last one works for LGBTQIA+ characters as well.
While I agree is Shuri really perfect? I’m asking because I haven’t seen the movie but it seems to me like she fails to save T’Challa, gets captured by Namor which results in Okoye getting fired. Fails to protect or save her mother and leads her people into a needless war where a large number of her best warriors are killed. Honestly she seems like a pretty big screw up.
did you watch the movie? throughout the entire movie shuri goes after an obviously bad route of revenge and finally lets go of that by the very end. in the final battle she didnt even have the upperhand most of the time despite having namor's weakness, she is distinctly NOT perfect. please watch the movie
Not gonna lie, the deep dive into movies doesnt really do it for my as much as it seems the group of you folks who make these videos.... but I listen in part because its great to hear the narrative and argument construction as well as hear the patterns of thought used to come to the point you do. Really I am here for the sophistry, in the most positive way you can use that word, or the argument building I respect more than anything... but movies and shows just dont do it for me personally like politics does so I find it much more interesting when your politics seep through and we get a comment about leftists or your former commie days or even a snide remark about Neo Liberals in the US.... being some what of a conservative liberal who was left behind by Democrats recently, the comments toward this party are welcome. Id like to see more focus on that area, politics is the world I would rather live in and it would be interesting to hear a long form argument based on politics from people who have these long form narrative based arguments if only to see what I could steal and adopt to my own version of the very same that I use in real life. Hell, if you have a discord maybe I would come in and argue politics from time to time.
Oh, the long-form review covers quite a lot of the political subtext in this film - mostly at the end, which I might actually upload as a separate video on this channel, since it kind of works as a standalone mini essay. That video’s also going to be broken up due to time constraints, so you won’t have to sit through a whole 2+ hour video to find the good bits! We’re still planning on kicking off a dedicated politics channel, and I will be starting up a Discord server as soon as I can find the time - hopefully in the next couple of weeks. So, one way or another, you should get something you enjoy!
I do appreciate the political analysis of this and I was even thinking of several subtle things while watching the film.... and I dont want to go 100% James Lindsay but I did notice some subtle Neo Marxism worked in in some less than obvious ways as well.... if you guys do a brain storming on the political end of this on that new Discord, that sounds like a fun time.
There’s a lot in this video where it just seems like you either failed to pay attention and maybe you could’ve used a second viewing of the film. Or you just straight up contradict yourself. I would strongly suggest watching the film again focusing on the points you brought up and think through it a little more. The film isn’t perfect and has its fair share of problems but most of what you brought up is not actually the problem you portray it to be. The “goop” shuri synthesized was only able to be synthesized by using the genetics of Talokans similar Vibranium plant as well as the DNA of her brother who had the powers the “goop” gave him. She didn’t just do it quickly for no reason but to do it, In fact if that were the case I’m sure she would’ve done it in the beginning to prevent her brothers death, it was a very obvious plot point, it was well set up, and had a satisfying result to those who payed attention and watched with a thoughtful eye. If your just mad they reversed the consequences of the last film that’s fair, just say that, but I feel like it was a reasonable soulution that involved character development, and was solved through the actions in the story. There are more examples than just this in your video but this is just one that emphasized your misunderstanding, or just lack of thoughtful viewing. I love video essays on movies good or bad and I respect everyone’s opinions, but when a film is portrayed as something it isn’t to thousands who have probably never seen the film, it hurts filmmaking as a whole. Reviews should be thoughtful and put together well after hopefully multiple viewings or just a single thoughtful watch, and it is extremely obvious when that isn’t the case.
If *you* had paid attention, you’d have spotted that my problem wasn’t just that she did it, it’s that the fact she did it pretty well breaks the entire world for its uninterrogated consequences. Maybe try accurately parsing the thing you’re watching before you waste both our time with your mistakes.
Right, but now that they have a source of the magic plant and a ready source of DNA to mix with it to make infinite goop, it's...quite a problem. It was already baffling why they hogged the magic plant that could have done so much for their people, for Africa, for the world, but at least we understood it was some bullshit ancient tradition. Now, though, they can make the shit en masse, but they won't because of some contrived reason, if they even address the point at all.
The fact that they cured cancer halfway through the movie and decide to turn it into a joke is unreal.
@@rogerborg Heck, I'm surprised Robert Mugabe or Joeseph Kony didn't take Wakanda.
To address ReRe Williams' backstory...in the comics she stole her tech from Tony Stark, so they actually kept that comic book accurate in this movie.
A decent writer can work with that backstory to make a good character. Unfortunately, neither version do anything good with her.
I think that if they just stuck with the theme of tackling the topic of grief. The introduction of Iron Heart really felt out of place.
@@LostChord option c is "the film needs to happen" lmfao it feels really forced, which is an odd thing to say about a conflict's motivation
But that is how a funeral is done in African cultures tho.
At least it wasn't Speedos like in the original
What might have made him scary was if he carried out a few live human sacrifices.....like the real Aztecs.
The wings on his feet are from the comics, that is like the only comic accurate detail about this “Nahmurrrrrr”
Namor wasn’t in this movie. Instead, some bizarre knockoff appeared based upon the actual character.
Which I believe is what his family asked them to do, not make it a spectacle.
To quote Rachel Zegler: "It's Hollywood, baby! Weird, weird, weird~!" 😂
How in Magical Africaland do you die from illness?
What I didn't understand is Namor doesn't want the vibranium to be found but drops the vibranium finder off in Wakanda so it can be back engineered. Didn't even destroy it, check the ship logs for information on who created it and where it came from just asked Wakanda to figure it out and they couldn't even do it without ,as we heard a handful of times their favorite colonizer. Then they gave Namor Aquaman powers so he can just be dried out with home Depot heaters.
you know its like pretending than murdering OPPENHEIMER after nagasaki will end the building of more nukes
Subscribed!
Oh yes, I’m committed to reviewing *all* of Rings of Power - so only, what, 5 videos to go? 🤮
@@LostChord you are a brave soul, indeed 😍 I can hardly wait!
It may be callous, but the mourning of Boseman is so over-played, much like Paul Walker. They were nice people, sure, but they were actors that most never personally knew. I'm sick of the film industry whoring out Chadwick's passing for cheap nostalgia and emotional investment.
Remember when Stan Lee, who created most of these characters, got a massive junk of an entire movie to be mourning his passage? Me neither.
Oh yes, that’s firmly on my radar. I do love me some smurfs.
We only reference the blip for cheap jokes about dead cats.
Shrui in my opinion was one of the problems in the movie (in the end at least before you can see she was mourning but in the end she became selfish) she is never held accountable for many of the problems she had caused and I think the only reason she won in the end was because she was the main protagonist sure (spoilers)
You can argue T'Challa in the first movie came off as a revenge driven mad man which he was completely justified in doing so as was tony stark but you can at least say none of them dragged other people into their revenge war path Shuri at least killed half of her army and would have most likely killed them all if she didn't "Miraculously" survive an impaling.
I’m not sure why them being blue is an issue as the Atlanteans in Marvel comics are blue.
i don't really see it as an issue, it was just notable
@@CrazyManwich Although I will argue that "it's in the comics" isn't always a good excuse, especially not when the MCU is very much NOT loyal to the comics. If they were always trying to stick to them, okay, but they take some massive liberties in some areas, and yet maintain certain details in others that maybe they SHOULD change because they don't quite translate to film very well, like Namor's adorable little wings that really undermine whatever menace he's supposed to have.
Absolutely abhorrent parenting. Everything about your comment is awful.
It's weird that the guy who swims everywhere has the doughiest body in the entire MCU
Or M'Baku. He'd of been fun.
M'Baku is so soft
Make absolutly NO SENS
turn from a badass to a comedy not funny support
Still feel like his intro in civil war was his best film as an actor and character
I like the short form. Good, concise review.
It’s a *very* different experience. Nice being able to turn them around in a few hours as opposed to a few days! But I’ll not be dropping the usual format.
@@LostChord Sometimes a quickie can be more satisfying than a marathon session. Review wise, I mean.

Everything you said I've been trying to articulate myself and make into a video but I just don't know how to lmaooo, can't wait for the full version on the main channel
5:45 "there are no limits on the nonsense anymore." Phase 4 in a nutshell.
I still remember the one video where you said you preferred things to be “long” and then put a picture of a big banana😂. I enjoy your longform videos but this short form is dope. 5 to 12 minutes is a perfect amount of time for a quick review. Great job!
This was great,And I can't wait to watch the longer review on the main channel
I like getting to just hear your reviews. Be it short or long does not concern me because I can listen to you at work when I sometimes sit in silence for hours. Also this movie has very few good scenes, everything else was just out right predictable. The Queen had more presence then Shuri as the next Black Panther. Chadwick was a very sad loss.
These movies are little more than modern minstrels. Parade you around and say yaayyy you rock.... meanwhile make you look like a fool to those who understand and have the wit to see through the false pageantry. These movies are made to belittle mock and devide people especially blacks
Fantastic! I don't always have time to listen to your longer videos, so this is perfect. Also, decided I won't waste my time watching the film.
This movie is even more laughable when you consider the fact we are talking about a world with nations that not only obtained futuristic alien tech, time travel and extremely advanced nano-tech but also time and mind bending magical powers and abilities that's aren't just limited to Dr.Strange but multiple people all around the world, so not even the combined forces of Wakanda and Aztec Atlantis can even leave a dent in that kind of world (and that's not even mentioning conventional weapons of war like tanks, jet fighters, battleships and nukes)
Yet the movie acts like they would be a legitimate threat somehow to the world, as if we are talking about the real world outside the movies not the version in the MCU which should be very different, that's how utterly sloppy the writing in the MCU have become (and Riri is nothing but a watered down version of Shuri + Tony, and that's the rotten cherry on the crap cake that is this movie)
In a sea of massively long reviews this is a good middle ground that I didn’t know I needed.
I can take in the short form and if I’m not satisfied I can then go to the long form.
It's good that Chadwick isn't there to see the Empire of MCU fall to a stupid agenda
Personally prefer these shorter vids to the longer ones. Thanks & keep them coming.
Very enjoyable! I can't wait for the longer version.

Now clue you had a second channel. Pleasant surprise!
@@amygarcia2202 lol
@@amygarcia2202 You do realize that Shuri, and the actress playing Shuri, are different people, right?
Sadly, our Hollywood masters have declared the situation, thus
I thought they were doing outreach with Iron Heart but no, and it was far fetched having her fight at the end. Pointless.
I see the CGI is still bucket of turd level from the first black panther
Wokeanda Forevar!
Honestly that wouldn't even surprise me if they did do that. The whole black vs hispanic thing they're playing with is really on the nose
The big villan in a movie supporting mostly balck actors is called Ku'ul kan😂 the ironi is insane.
I'm just curious what is a good Marvel movie? Or just a good movie period? It seems to me everyone has there own heads up their butts.
You must have your head pretty far up your butt to come to that conclusion.
Can you also make a video on comparison between early MCU and MSHEU phase 4.
You mean MSheU plus a really
Good Spider-Man movie.
"Wakanda Boogaloo"...killed it.
They should have thought about this a bit longer. The water Mexicans have backs that are always wet.... I hope black panther 3 has fried chicken.
We have to two movies in theaters that each have blue armies. Could they be related?? Hmmmm...
Ironheart isn't a character because they're literally not allowed to, they have to leave as much of a blank slate as possible for the Ironheart show team, while at the same time trying to build some hype in the audience for what is ultimately, an unpopular character.
hey a question off topic. are u still watching andor? whats ur opinion? will u do a video on it when the finally hit?
I am indeed! Still pleasantly surprised so far. Not perfect, but much better than I was expecting. I’ll do another video once the series closes. Depending how much work I have on, it may be another short video on this channel.
Another MCU film to avoid. :)
They just need to grab an alternate universe Killmonger to be the new Black Panther. No one is buying emaciated Shuri as Black Panther.
Dora Milage= Agoge ( The Woman King) = murderous, human sacrificing slavers = good guys ???????? WTF! SMH
You'd think the wakandans would want the winter soldier back for there war with the mer people
Imagine if there was a European country that was sitting on top of Vibranium they would be made out to be the villains.
I thought it was alright. Not that good but not that bad either. Good review though
1.captain marvel
2. Wokeanda forever
3. The first Black Panther
4. Multivariate
5. Thor Love and Thunder
Not a bad idea to kick of a shorter channel in parallel. As always, loved the video.
Gotta have a backup plan!
Marvel has been miss after miss lately, Will they ever come back to greatness?
There is a Black Pamther 2?
You're not a lost chord. You are a Mahler perfect fifth, Platoon.
Very kind! LostChord has actually been my screen name pretty much since the day I first became pretentious. Which is to say, right from the beginning! It has an equally pretentious story. I may reveal it if this channel ever takes off.
They should have recast! The only thing good in this movie was Killmonger. What a waste. P.S They do it with white Superheroes like Superman.
The movie was completely boring, and it introduced characters that felt unnecessary, if you're a fan of the first film, don't go see Wakanda forever, it's a big waste. The first Black Panther is more fun to watch.
10:07 I just love those gay little ankle wings! 😆
But don't you feel represented by all the representation of what you represent?
Honestly she seems like a pretty big screw up.
shuri is not perfect, she still has a lot to learn and did some of it in the film
did you watch the movie? throughout the entire movie shuri goes after an obviously bad route of revenge and finally lets go of that by the very end. in the final battle she didnt even have the upperhand most of the time despite having namor's weakness, she is distinctly NOT perfect. please watch the movie
Tbh I thought this film one of best of phrase 4 films , this says more about phase 4 than about this film.
I like this short format
The best Black Panther movie was Captain America Civil War.
The first one was bad too. Those racist overtones and bad world building didn’t make a good movie.
Why is Queen (The mother) the leader WTF?
Yeah, I mention that in the longer review. We can add “line of succession” to the unending list of ways Wakanda makes no sense.
She probably killed someone at that waterfall. LOL!
Let’s ask Scott Steiner what he thinks about Namor
Steiner: HE’S FAT!!!!!
Finally some free time to watch your review🤗
So here is where you hide between Platoon Videos :)
this namor looks funny
