In my opinion new games should be compared with older games so it will be easier for people to review and analyse either the new game is good (worth buying) or bad ( not worth). If it's bad they can think twice before buying the game or wait for the developer to fix/patch to improve the game before they buy it. You may not need physics, but with game models looking more realistic, they are getting increasingly more jarring with outdated physics. You can sell a realistic looking game and then skimp out on the physics and animation. Even Mario games have physics and tons of animation. It is what gives it its charm and liveliness. Do gamers not care about game design at all? Having physics makes your gameplay dynamic. When playing something like Sifu, the ability to have a knocked enemy hit another enemy walking up the stairs which causes them both to fall down. It would be less exciting and tactical of there was no friendly fire between the enemies. Physics in VR is also important. Games like Walkabout Mini Golf and Eleven Table Tennis shine due to it.

Why compare the two? They're both clearly going for two different things. GTA is trying to be a realistic and somewhat grounded crime drama, meanwhile saints row is and always has been just a wacky fun time that doesn't really take any aspects of it's design seriously.
