Video games back then were so polished because there was more focus on the gameplay features over anything else and not how the game typically looked. San Andreas is a great looking game for it's time but there are a lot of places and areas on the map where you can tell limits were met.
Video games today are mainly focused on how it looks over any of the core gameplay features and are simply rushed out the door or greedy companies just wanting profit from such low effort. I'm assuming they clutter their maps with all this garbage and props and have second thoughts and ideas over what's actually gonna function and at the same time make it feel "emersive".

People who made this masterpiece must be immensely proud.
If you really look at it, Cyberpunk and Saints Row could've been the 2 main games to give Rockstar some competition when it comes to the open world sandbox genre. However, both of these games were released botched as hell. Cyberpunk is recovering and Saints Row isn't looking to climb up from the deficit that it's in.
I guess all in all, Rockstar still reigns king

@Charles Hastings Depends some Missions in RDR2 have allot freedom which on only found out about on my 5th playthrough. Games Like GTA4, the warriers, Manhunt also have allot of freedom in their missions just depends what they are trying to do. Plus they have good vaierty in the mission compared with most over devs.

san andreas did so much with the little cpu and graphics card power that pcs back in the day had. also engine limitations were a thing back in the 2000s, so developers could not just clutter the map with props and expect it to run well. game development was a lot harder as there were not as many tools and features built into engines so developers had come up with creative solutions for details like buildings being mirrored in water surfaces by building inverted versions of the buildings under the map.
I have so many good memories with GTA San Andreas playing it with friends and even my Dad doing turns on the missions was fun and much simpler times.

The sad thing is that the game sold well, despite having bad reviews. So next time they'll put the same amount of effort knowing it'll sell well anyways.

I don't actually think the game sold well. The sales dropped about 80% after it's first week and it's currently being sold at discounted prices. A game that sold well wouldn't go on sale so quickly. Also, considering how arrogant volition is, they would be bragging like crazy if the game actually sold well which leads me to believe it actually didn't. Embracer group also seems rather hesitant to actually talk about sales and are saying they want to wait until the November report to see if it sold well or not. Remember, we don't have sales numbers yet so all we can do is speculate.

6:48 It may seem that way, but there is a BIG caveat with that: flying or sailing outside the map can actually ruin the map with a pretty notorious territory glitch. As a matter of fact, there's two story missions in GTA:SA that requires you to do just that by flying behind a Shamal in a Dodo and a Shamal to a corona taking you to LC (Bayside Lighhouse Vagos anyone?). Beyond that, you can break gang territories, popgroups, among other things, which makes out of map exploration kinda of a really bad idea on anything that isn't the Original PC Version with Silent Patch.
It's so disappointing to know that GTA SA is still getting praise while the first two REAL and GOOD Saints Row's that tried to compete with GTA SA and IV to this day still get little to no recognition.

The new patch made it so that the car door doesn't hit you @ 3:16 but I don't think the developers addressed any other issue listed in this video. Sad.

Its 2022 and we're paying full price for beta versions of games. How the industry has fallen.
And there's no guarantee that the beta version is ever gonna be properly finished,nfs heat and unbound died pretty quickly when it comes to updates but atleast those are somewhat polished compared even to the saints row shitboot.
The fact that rockstar spends so much time on their games to make it realistic as it can get is nice.

Having played a crapload of GTA SA and wholeheartedly agreeing with your video, I feel like you were reaching with the obstacle climbing comparison animations breaking in Saints Row.
One can tell you went for gimmicky terrain only in Saints Row's case, because the alignment/animations can also break in SA if you try weird or obstructed surfaces to climb on. I know because I've tried climbing pretty much anything possible.
Keep on doing what you do, it's great content, but please try and compare such things in likewise scenarios.
with the car door, they probably wanted to add close animation but forgot to, if you removed the character animation in both games doors would close and open "automatically"
They need to learn from rockstar but Making perfect animations and working on environmental detail requires a lot of money to hire professionals to do the job.

The automatic closing of car doors was a so called "feature" in Saints Row games. If you check Saints Row 3 for instance, the car door also closes automatically there.
And even in 2, which I actually don't mind seeing as the door closing on its own is hella gangster lol, I'm glad at least they left THAT feature in from the originals.

Maybe cuz gta san andreas is the best gta game but there is some stuffs i like more in saints row games then gta like dual wielding yeah i know u can do that in san andreas but only when u get hitman level and u cant do it in any other gta game and i like how u can enter the cars faster by jumping throught the window or windshield and in sr1 and 2 u just teleport in car if u jump on the car and i like character creation in sr games and that u can telepor to the shore when ure in water in sr
