Another enjoyable film Linda. I watched your series on the GGW as you put it up and travelled up in Sep ‘23 to do it and then the Affric Kintail Way this Sept just gone. When I got to Inverness I had a huge whack of anxiety and apprehension. I had the Cicero guide book and OS maps downloaded but I also went back on occasions to see somewhere familiar you had shown us all. I know you stress that these are not meant to be guides but they are very helpful and informative for planning as well as on the trails themselves, so thank you very much for putting these up on TH-cam. 👍🏻👍🏻 Great filming and soundtracks.
@@CiaranKemp-i6d thanks so much Ciaran, The Affric Kintail Way is on my ‘to do list’. Glad you found the videos useful, I often watch other people’s videos before tackling a route myself. 👍
Great video Linda. Thank you for sharing. I’m currently mountain biking the SUW and have almost reached Brattleburn. I’ve had some really tough days so far. I’m glad to see the route improves on this section 😅. Phew!
Hello Linda, I very much enjoy your videos, Brora looks like she always enjoys herself on screen with the new scents and areas to explore, a bundle of energy, I had to laugh when you said "we`ve only just started and I`m knackered", classic! Keep the videos coming please.
In the year since we met on the Great Glen Way, you continue to inspire me and i continue to admire you and your achievements. I too start off a bit anxious but like you, soon get in my stride and the beautiful surroundings soon make me forget any doubts or worries. I feel I owe you a great debt of gratitude for being such a great role model and I anxiously await seeing the rest of your journey. Btw you deserved your whiskey! 😊
Aww, thanks so much Emma. It was such a struggle with the heavy backpack but nowhere near as bad as on the GGW. It’s a lonely old trail the SUW. Could do with meeting more people like yourself. So glad I inspire you. Thank you. 🙏 X
I walked the Southern Upland Way in late August '22. One of my favourite hikes and hardly anyone around, in general. For the time of year I couldn't believe how quiet it was to be honest, a totally different experience from the West Highland Way three months before. I'm not sure I met anyone doing the same hike along the way. Great to see some of it again, thanks.
Well done Linda and Brora, esp. carrying that pack and going for the higher route in spite of the worries at the start - agree it was defo worth it. Can totally relate to the nerves at the start - I'm the same every flippin time - same concerns too (cows, committing to the distance) but a whole new level when with a dog too. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Scott, good to hear it’s not just me that has anxiety at the start of a trail. Had to do a tricky diversion on day 4 to avoid cows & calves sitting right on the path. Fingers crossed it’s cow free for the rest of the trail. 👍
Very Impressive Linda, well done so far. Some hard walking with that pack, but so peaceful away from tourist honey pots & your tent looks so much nicer than the bothy too!
Brilliant! My local bothy in the Ettrick hills is no better place to be. If you walk from Overphawhope to Garrowgill then take a left, it takes you to Dryfe bothy. Too much road walking heading to the lochs! You're brave doing it on your own. Well done!
Did SUW last year. Fantastic walk. The low route was closed so had to go up over Crofthead. So glad I did, it was one of my favourite parts of the way.
Thank you for sharing this part of the way, never managed past the bothy now I’m itchy to do it 🥵🤣. Well done with that pack 👏. Look forward to you next section 👍.
Well you sure showed that big boulder at the start who was boss when you tried kicking it back, ouch, that could have hurt. Great vid, thank's for posting.
Magic😃. Lovely film and narration. Brora must be worth a couple of miles a day,dog seemed to be towing you along with a constant wagging tail 😁. We do enjoy your films.🫵👍🏼
Good luck Linda, I live in moffat and often catch folk reaching here and stopping. It’s definitely a far more challenging hike than the west highland way.
Just discovered your channel and enjoyed this video. Yeah, I prefer tents to bothies due to mice. Back in the 80s, woke up in Culra to find a mouse preening itself on my chest. Then again, I stayed in Meanach two years ago and it was mouse free. Not a trace. This is the fourth bothy I know of with a toilet. Beats using a spade. Love Brora, by the way.
Aww, thank you 🙏 Yes, mice can be an issue. One TH-cam video I watched mentioned a guy staying in a bothy on the SUW has either his rucksack or tent nibbled during the night. Brora would also start barking if she heart mice 🐁 Thanks for watching. 👍
Well done, so impressive the way you carry your load, I hate mice and cows as well. It looks a lovely route and it’s nice that you can opt for lower level walking
No, she’s off the lead a fair bit normally. She’s currently in season, too many sheep & on long distance hikes I tend to keep her on lead a lot to restrict her exercise (as she covers a lot of distance). In the hills she chases birds too which is a nightmare (for them). The SUW sure has a lot of 🐑
Hi there Linda, the best of luck on your adventure. Brora does make me chuckle, it always sounds like your being followed by the Flying Scotsman! 🤣🥾⛰🏴🐶🚂 All the best, Dave

Thank you. It certainly is. We’d done the WHW in 1991 & the SUW was much tougher. Maybe 🤔 that’s why it’s quieter. 👍

Thank you. The stream train noise is probably because she pulls on the lead so much her harness restricts her airways. She’s a 🐵 monkey.
