Traquair House: Exploring the House & Grounds
I’ve been visiting Traquair House and grounds since I was a child and always found it a magical place. It had been many years since my last visit and I walked right past it doing the Southern Upland Way earlier this year. I’d vowed to visit again soon.
Most of the video focuses on the history of the house and on a beautiful autumnal 🍂 walk through the grounds.

Another enjoyable film Linda. I watched your series on the GGW as you put it up and travelled up in Sep ‘23 to do it and then the Affric Kintail Way this Sept just gone. When I got to Inverness I had a huge whack of anxiety and apprehension. I had the Cicero guide book and OS maps downloaded but I also went back on occasions to see somewhere familiar you had shown us all. I know you stress that these are not meant to be guides but they are very helpful and informative for planning as well as on the trails themselves, so thank you very much for putting these up on TH-cam. 👍🏻👍🏻 Great filming and soundtracks.

My late wife and I used to frequent the Traquair Fair fifteen years back. we couldn't park in the campsites because of our dogs, but the Lady of the house kindly let us park the caravan inside the Fair. Whenever I watch videos of a wild but free Scotland I can’t help but imagining brave Scot’s men & women from the past who worked the land & had little communities dotted around the country before those nasty Redcoats stole their land & sent most of them to the colonies as convicts & slaves . Jamaica being one such place, most Jamaicans have a Scottish surname, if you watch the Olympics you’ll notice many of their athletes have Scottish surnames.

I often imagine what the scene might be when I visit previously inhabited places from the past. The highland clearance villages are sad reminders of mass persecution. Thank you so much for watching. 🙏

I'm staying in Fort William for a couple of weeks next year and I would like to try and climb one or two of those munros on the fringes of Knoydart. I'd probably use a bike to get up Glen Dessary a bit quicker.
