    My son and I just studied Ichiro to learn from his swing. He was the master of the hips-first swing motion and even though it looks a little weird, there is a ton of power once a batter gets those hips moving. Pound for pound, Ichiro was the best!!!

    • @Sphere723
      @Sphere723 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, it's ridiculous how much hip movement he gets while still keeping his head and hands back. Great video! I love Ichiro too, such a master hitter! I'm an A's fan and loved to watch him in BP when Seattle would come, like a machine he'd systematically hit three line drives to left, three to center, and three to right , then swing away and hit bombs with ease the rest of the time. It was so fun to watch.

    Since I live in northern Calif., I took every opportunity to watch Ichiro since he broke in as a rookie in Seattle. I may be biased since I am Japanese American, but yes, he was the greatest hitter, and possibly one of the best outfielders in baseball history. When he came into town (usually Oakland, sometimes SF) I would get to the game early to watch him take fungo. His behind the back catches was a thing of beauty. The guy was one of the most complete players that MLB has ever seen being an offensive and defensive threat. He was also known to knock a few balls out of the ballpark. Thank you for covering him in such detail. I wish I could go to the HOF ceremony this summer where Ichiro will be inducted on his first year of eligibility.

    I watched Ichiro play during Griffey's last year. He and Griffey both played that game at Texas. Jr went something like 3-5 with like 2 runs and 3 RBI. It was absolutely magical.
    They whooped Texas and I got to see at least 4 future HOF'ers play that night. Ichiro, Jr, Pudge, and someone else(or more) on Texas that I can't recall. I was too worried about watching my M's decimate Texas in Texas. And watching Jr and Ichiro play in-person for the first time in my life. Oh it was incredible.
    Thankfully the game was televised so I Tivo'd it and still have the box with the game saved 😁 By the 9th,it was raining hard and most fans were under the awnings. Me and my buddy were still 20 ft behind home plate in our rain parkas, enjoying the game lol. You can see us loud & clear on TV in bright yellow & orange parkas. So glad I got to see Jr play before he retired. I tried to see him play earlier that season at Texas but he wasn't in the lineup the 1st time.

    Ichiro has shown he can lift, with power, pitches down and in on him, it's the same area that he hit is 3000th career hit (an off the wall triple), the only inside the park HR at the All Star game, and the same exact spot where he walked off against Mariano Rivera.
    Pitching up and in against Ichiro on the latter half of his career was a good idea, but if you didn't get the ball up, he was going to turn on it, and it oftentimes ended poorly.

    He is no doubt the best ever in terms of contact - I personally think he deserves to be named the hit king considering if you add up all his hits from Japan and MLB he has the record. Yes, the talent in Japan isn't as good as the MLB, but it's pretty close, and even if you halved the amount of hits he had in Japan and added them to his MLB total, he'd have the most hits still. I'm so mad we didn't get to see a full Ichiro MLB career because I think it would've been insane.

      @@AstroWrLd44 Managers usually do not interfere between their catchers and pitchers unless there is a good reason and it's almost always about pitching to a single player where the manager tells them to intentionally walk them. Catchers and good pitchers call the game together. It can vary John Soltz preferred Brian McCann when he came up as a rookie to call games. Most pitchers consult with their catchers before a game and have a game plan worked out. Then the pitcher can concentrate on his pitching and the catcher knows the scouting report on each hitter and calls the pitches. The catcher calls the game for most pitches, but if you see a pitcher shaking off most signs there is a problem. Maybe it's the umpire's strike zone. I've seen that and the catcher didn't adjust to the umpire, though a seasoned catcher adjusts with the pitcher.

    He was the best of his era at what he was supposed to do - get on base and score runs. I have no doubt in my mind that he is the all time hits leader if he played his entire career in MLB. I have so much respect for the player and the man, but I could not consider him the greatest hitter of all time

    Can you do a breakdown of why Jackie Bradley Jr needs to learn how to run and get out of the box?

    Okay so forgive me for asking because I was 2 at the time but did Ichiro have more hype coming over to the states that shohei had?

    • @conehed1138
      @conehed1138 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, and Ichiro won ROY and MVP his first year, so the hype was warranted

    • @popopotamus
      @popopotamus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say no. Because Ichiro was the first position player from Japan and small and skinny, there were critics and the media in the US who doubted that Ichiro would become a top player. The Mariners' skipper at that time, Lou Piniella, didn't even expect Ichiro that much as he mentioned Ichiro would hit around .280 with 20 to 30 stolen bases. Having said that, from our perspective as Japanese, we knew he was already literally GOAT, so our hype was an all-time high. It was probably more than Ohtani's.

    Trevor Bauer is putting out Baseball content? Awesome! Isn't he also the one imitating people's batting stances?

    YES!!!! GREATEST EVER!!!!! He had it all. Power, speed, defense, and could pitch. Had he have come into the league at 21 instead of 27, he'd surpass Pete Rose by 2000 hits.

    Where does higher OPS and lower AVG stop being beneficial? Like is hitting .300/.750 better than .200/.825? Is the guy going 3-4 w/ 3 singles doing worse than the guy 1-4 with a homer?

    I dont like to say particular player the best, but what I can say about Ichiro is that he has the most unbreakable record in baseball. 200 hit season for 10 consecutive years is something you will never see.

    Still pisses me off the Mariners blew it in the playoffs against the Yankees. They literally dominated everyone that year. 116 wins that year. Still the most ever. Had they have won the chip they'd without a doubt be considered the greatest team ever. One of the best I ever saw that year.
