So cool to see pitchers deep dive into other pitchers’ mechanics. I’m a little biased as a Cubs fan, Yu was one of my favorite players last years so this was a really fun video for me. Love getting to see just how good he really is beyond what I even realize. Also love this series, great stuff trev
This is the first time I see an active MLB pitcher post a video like this. VERY MUCH impressed. 120% enjoyed. Thank you very much for the video and channel. Please stay healthy and keep up the great work
Darvish throws 11 pitches... ELEVEN! And what is somehow crazier than that, he has multiple variations of the same pitch like a cutter that moves 6 inches horizontally and a cutter that moves 8 but at a steeper angle.
Really wish more MLB players could put this kind of content out, 10 years removed from the game and this is the shit i absolutely love to see. Incredible mind you have Mr Bauer 👌
I got to see your great breakdown of Yu Darvish's pitching because of SportStorm. It's cool to see how you break down the mechanics of other pitchers and I can see now how hard you do your preparation. I wish I can see more of this. I'll be scrounging for more content on your channel. I'll be following your games as well.
Really good vid Bauer! I respect for talking crazy, then backing it up on the mound n making look easy! Didn't know Yu were a You fan! (Pun!?) As a Cub fan, I really appreciate the Darvish overlays n breakdown, this is helpful for understanding what makes all his pitches so deceptive! You're turning me into a Bauer fan too...and I resisted soo long! Keep up the awesome pitching n vids, take it easy when you face the Cubs and I'll watch more! 🧐🤔😎😄
Yu Darvish is easily one of my favorite pitchers (of course I'm biased because I'm originally from Japan and he played on an NPB team in my hometown) :)
It's pretty cool that both Trevor Bauer and Yu Darvish are in contention for the NL Cy Young Award this year. They both have similar pitching philosophy, and must be working very well for them.
Came from Ichiro's video. I think Japanese fans would love to see this if it had subtitles like the Ichiro video! I think Darvish is recovering his reputation from his last 15 awesome start-ups, but didn't know he was this precise. Nasty!
This is the cerebral side of the game that is missing from coaches teaching the younger levels. Even at the high school level players think baseball is boring, it's because they don't get a chance to analyze things like this and they're not taught to. Keep it up!
Jedi master Yu. that is nuts!!! freeze frame at 12:17, i can't believe it. Trevor your stance is quite in focus too though considering 4 different at bats overlaid?
Great video. Mad respect to an opposing pitcher. I think it would be neat to see you break down a historical at bat or two. Maybe a 10 pitch Maddux at bat to show why he was as good as he is. I had never considered you breaking down other pitchers before.
Yu Darvish has some nasty stuff this year. He is the Cubs number one this year in my opinion. Have you seen his Supreme yet? It's like a 2 seamer change up with more action. Nasty to righties and lefties
I’d like to see you beak down Tom Seaver if you get the chance. It’d be interesting to see how a current-day pitcher analysis this pitcher from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Thank you.
Yu just added a new split-two seam hybrid that has an aggressive downward and in to righty motion. If he can properly tunnel that off the other 10 pitches he has, you have no real chance at the plate.
aquino hit 2 off him that day. i was there for that one. enjoyed the pitching and the bombs. even though we lost great american is a great place. loved hearing your thoughts on yu!
Great analysis of my guy Yu Darvish! I hope you guys do get to face off so I can see you K twice again and make a follow-up video haha! :) Solid video! Hats off.
It's the rise run axis, his fastball has a lot of rpms, which keeps it in the air. He talked before with Clev about "your pitches just need to be different than the average" and Doolittle's ball seems to "rise" (maintain height) longer than most fastballs, which travel downwards much more through the zone. So most batters swing below the ball, and seeing a ball "rise" can give quite a startle
@@pohorex6834 this answer is correct for someone like Verlander, but Doolittle doesn't even average 2300 rpms - his fastball spin rate is actually about league average. However, Doolittle excels in spin efficiency, with true 12-6 spin, which makes it act like it has more rpms.
I know I'm not a professional pitcher but I am a college pitcher and what I've always been taught is that your mechanics should be the same for every pitch. Only difference would be grip and wrist angle. There are plenty of things mentally that could help when you're throwing offspeed but it varies person to person. I hope this helps a bit!
Sounds like why A. J. Preller traded for Yu. I think you (Trevor) should come out for a 2-year with the Pads...win a championship, live on the coast, beat LA, and become legendary:)
It would be interesting seeing a pitch overlay for Kyle Hendricks. I believe he is even better at tunneling pitches. Of course with 10mph less on his fastball he has to be.
4sf, 2sf , splim(splitter 2sf it goes 90 plus like a sinker), spitter, changeup, circle change, he once had fork, ball, hard cutter, medium cutter, soft cutter, hard slider, soft slider, slurve, slitter(slider that goes down like sff), (in Japan he threw a screwball i think).. curveball, slow curveball, knucke curve(from you kow who) i dont think that he throw all of them in the Majors but its all in his huge pitch arsenal.
Is that counting The Supreme pitch he recently created? Darvish is an absolute beast. All-time K/9 leader too. Hat tip to BauerOutage for this vid. First video I've seen that really does Yu justice
Many fans dun understand what makes a pitcher success, it is not 100 miles fast ball, It is the Identical release points, n very late break, that is very hard to achieve.
I watched him in Texas, he isnt a "cartoon" when he's healthy. In fact, he reached 1000 strikeouts faster than anybody else in MLB history. This idea that he sucks is from bandwagon jumping Dodger fans who only watched him in the world series
I haven't reviewed many of your ABs, so I can't compare this setup to your true "normal"; however, it looks like you're a little to far from the plate. Also, not that it means anything, but I hit a HR with "you" in MLB the Show 20 against the Nats in the fictional 2020 NLCS... 2nd highest game difficulty setting (HOF)... Those 2020 Reds beat the Twins for the WS Title... Just sayin'...
Honestly trev jus needs to attack early Bc even though yes it’s hard to hit a pitch 5 mph slower then the fastball but if he can keep his weight back and explode on that down the middle cutter then he would be a much better hitter Bc he wouldn’t have to face that nasty slider 0-2
So cool to see pitchers deep dive into other pitchers’ mechanics. I’m a little biased as a Cubs fan, Yu was one of my favorite players last years so this was a really fun video for me. Love getting to see just how good he really is beyond what I even realize. Also love this series, great stuff trev
I love that he has like 10 different pitches
Isn't it crazy how these 2 are now gonna be top 2 for NL Cy Young voting?
Its crazy that there is more blur in the score box than in the movement of the ball and pitcher on the overlay
This is one of the most if not the most instructive video on baseball on TH-cam.

On first glance the pitches don't seem too difficult. After analysis, those pitches were really good!
Really wish more MLB players could put this kind of content out, 10 years removed from the game and this is the shit i absolutely love to see. Incredible mind you have Mr Bauer 👌

Love such thorough analysis from an actual active MLB pitcher.
Thanks for doing this Trevor!
As a Padres Fan, I have massive respect for you Mr Bauer. Ty for what you do!!!
Trevor Bauer and Jomboy are doing more to promote baseball than anyone working in the marketing department of MLB or any franchises
Jomboy got me into baseball I’m not even gonna lie. Now it’s up there with soccer as my favorite sports
Excellent point of view on yu darvish's game. You both are killing it this year. Good luck on your seasons.
Think how the narrative surrounding Yu the past couple years would have changed if the Astros weren't the scum they were in 2017...
Was looking for this comment! Kershaw comes to mind as well.
Yeah tunneling doesn't mean as much when you know what pitch it is.
Before they got busted, somebody (I don’t remember who) claimed on twitter that Darvish was tipping his pitches that game.
Indeed. Yu would’ve had the game and been a hero instead of being trashed by Dodgers fans for the last few years
Scum bags for sure. Months later, the Astros still make me ill.
It's a great video.
Thank you for telling me how great his pitch was.
It was easy to understand and I learned.
Really good vid Bauer! I respect for talking crazy, then backing it up on the mound n making look easy! Didn't know Yu were a You fan! (Pun!?)
Yu Darvish is easily one of my favorite pitchers (of course I'm biased because I'm originally from Japan and he played on an NPB team in my hometown) :)
Just slightly biased then.
Are you mariko?
So you come from Sapporo!
It's pretty cool that both Trevor Bauer and Yu Darvish are in contention for the NL Cy Young Award this year.
They both have similar pitching philosophy, and must be working very well for them.
This was great. I love this shit. We might get 30 seconds of this on ESPN once a night.
That was fascinating. He is a very good teacher.
Came from Ichiro's video. I think Japanese fans would love to see this if it had subtitles like the Ichiro video!
I think Darvish is recovering his reputation from his last 15 awesome start-ups, but didn't know he was this precise. Nasty!
Omg! This analysis is absolutely AMAZING 😳😳😳😳 Thank you so much for such a wonderful video! 🥰🙏
Yelich watching this right now to get help hitting Yu.
This is the cerebral side of the game that is missing from coaches teaching the younger levels. Even at the high school level players think baseball is boring, it's because they don't get a chance to analyze things like this and they're not taught to. Keep it up!
Who thinks playing baseball is boring it’s so tense
Jedi master Yu. that is nuts!!! freeze frame at 12:17, i can't believe it. Trevor your stance is quite in focus too though considering 4 different at bats overlaid?
Yu's hittable if you use trashcans...
Who knew!
Great video. Mad respect to an opposing pitcher. I think it would be neat to see you break down a historical at bat or two. Maybe a 10 pitch Maddux at bat to show why he was as good as he is. I had never considered you breaking down other pitchers before.
Trev is making baseball fun.. I love what you're doing for the sport. I'd love to see you in Boston
とても分かりやすい!
As a Dodgers fan this is tough to watch
Remember he was "tipping" his pitches. Or at least that was their story.
@@danielclemmer3329 OH I remember. I also remember Roberts leaving him out there getting blown apart.
The astros got off light

ダルビッシュも凄いけど貴方も5年連続2桁勝ってる凄い投手だ👍
相手を認めてそこから学ぼうとする姿勢尊敬します。これからも頑張って下さい!
I’m an Angels fan but I feel bad for Darvish as he and his team were cheated out of the 2017 World Series.
Great breaking down, Mr Bauer! I'm looking forward to your next video! Keep on doing it, plz!
研究熱心で競技者として好感が持てる。
なんかスポーツやってるの?
Trevor Bauer
@@andrewjacks2716 I think so, too

バウアー投手、応援してます
It's kinda funny how 2 months earlier he was already analysing his soon to be cy young rival
Yu Darvish has some nasty stuff this year. He is the Cubs number one this year in my opinion.
Have you seen his Supreme yet? It's like a 2 seamer change up with more action. Nasty to righties and lefties
It’s so wack he’s like a mad scientist. I tried to throw it and it’s nasty
I would love to see you break down the time Devers took you deep twice. I still cant get over it, it looked like you had him beat on both swings
You need to do a breakdown on your swing impersonations!!!
Great video.
I think he's working on that one soon!
I’d like to see you beak down Tom Seaver if you get the chance. It’d be interesting to see how a current-day pitcher analysis this pitcher from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Thank you.

I see so many of Trevor's pitch mechanics in Yu Darvish (or vice versa since Trevor modeled his game after Darvish's)
aquino hit 2 off him that day. i was there for that one. enjoyed the pitching and the bombs. even though we lost great american is a great place. loved hearing your thoughts on yu!
You can tell how same the pitching is in that you can read the number of Yu's back as well as the score box numbers

Great analysis of my guy Yu Darvish! I hope you guys do get to face off so I can see you K twice again and make a follow-up video haha! :) Solid video! Hats off.
Universal DH now. No more Bauer at bats
aubrey huff didn’t understand a word you said in this video
Maybe his stats in the World Series would have been better if he did :)
This is a very interesting analysis.
I think it's very innovative for a pitcher to analyze from a batter's box.
I will subscribe your channel!!
Let the pitchers hit! 👍👍👍
Can you do a video on how Sean Doolittle is able to be effective with throwing a 92-94 mph fastball 95% of the time? Great video as always!
It's the rise run axis, his fastball has a lot of rpms, which keeps it in the air. @@pohorex6834 uh so about that...
