How to Throw a Gangster Curveball | Trevor Bauer X Marika Lyszczyk

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 23 ก.ย. 2024
- Trevor Bauer walks us through a weighted ball warm-up with NCAA baseball player, Marika Lyszczyk and finishes off warm-ups with a fielding drill to prepare for the curveballs. They take to the mound to work on throwing and take a video to see Marika's biomechanics. Once they get the body positioning set, Trevor explains the 3 keys to his gangster curveball: 1. Stiff wrist 2. Cut the ball in half 3. Shoot like a gangster.

As I highschool pitcher, when Trevor talks about mechanics and drills it is very helpful!! I will be doing these drills
Blessed that you are able to learn from these videos at such a young age
@@chuchaftw I’m 15 doing these drills nice to see others puttin in that work. God bless
good luck this season man! ready to see that 0.00 ERA on your highschools webpage ;)
Yeah this was helpful because my hs coach is gonna want me to pitch and I’m pretty rusty because of this covid stuff
i swear when we were playing back i the 90's, a lot of these technique's didn't exist... and it's fun to see this sort of evolution of the game. bauer is FAMOUS for taking his practice and routines to the next level. it's like he's more interested in what the human body can do, and using that knowledge to work on his mechanics. the proof is in the pudding... cy young winner, multiple year cy young contender.
This guy is golden he’s got a huge future in coaching. He owns baseball
I don't think he'll have time, he'll be the next commissioner
@@jjs8754 Trevor would he a really good commissioner actually but I doubt he has any internet in running the whole sport
@@ashleywilson3419 maybe Rachel can do it, helped by him
If he doesn’t get banned for cheating 🤝😂 dude is above a 4 ERA career besides last year when he won a cy young and cheated using foreign substances; to get the successful results 🤣💀 what an inaccurate comment.
Just a little bit of sticky icky is all it takes
honestly a weighted ball demo with Trevor would be sick
Agreed. Would love to see that.
if you watch some of his vlogs from the 2020 season he goes through some drills but it's not in depth
It's crazy, when I was playing little league these types of videos didn't exist. These would've had such a huge impact when off the field! Even 15 years later I just learned something new about throwing techniques lol. Thanks Trevor!
For real. Just think, 5 years from now there’s gonna be so much more talent just because of how readily these videos are available
We had Tom Emanski!!! lol. I know you remember that.
Right! I played in the early 90s through the late 90s into high school lol. This would've made Yyuuugggeeee impact on my game. Immense!
I ended up quitting high school ball because the coach let someone steal, my brand new $200 bat and did nothing about it. His response was. "look for it tomorrow at practice" excuse me? They, stole it. They, won't be bringing it back to practice you dumb ***! Not... Ok well llet me stop everyone before they leave and get it back now. Oh noooo. Can't do that.
He was with the driver but idk
@@billfar1560 What?
Shit... I’m looking for the tutorial on how to throw the “law abiding citizen” curveball. 😞
Yeah I was looking for a more “respectful member of society” curveball
Ah Trevor Bauer, lord of sticky stuff, show us your tricks that we might become gods of spin rate such as yourself!
Won’t find and MLB pitcher who teaches that lol, none of those guys play by the rules.
@@natetownshend9225 Ah any MLB pitcher, lords of sticky stuff, show us your tricks that we might become gods of spin rate such as yourself! fixed it for you
Sorry, all you will find are the "Vasoline, slick talking lawyer" ball, and the "Pine Tar, sticky five finger discount" ball.
This man throws a curveball the way everyone should, he will never cause a career ending injury like so many pitchers get throwing that type of curveball
he did end up having a different type of career ending "injury" though...

I remember a couple years ago Alex Bergman did a breakdown of fans mechanics. I think it’d be cool to see bauer do the same (on a more serious level) with high school and college level players
he did that a couple months ago but yea that would be cool
john schmoltz broke down a video of me pitching on mlb network and i swear he had no idea what he was talking about
Ah yes Alex bergman
Did you mean Alex BREGman?
@@Steevee14
Or maybe Lance "Big Puma" Bergman. Who is actually a baseball coach now.
Not just any curveball... A GANGSTER MFing Curveball
@Eli Hauser yea you obviously put the other fingers on the ball at game speed, the point of that is bc that's where all the pressure should be and the other fingers just guide it
@Eli Hauser it’s a learning lesson man.
@@sigbrotum2191 actually it’s not throwing with two fingers he was showing exactly how you hold the ball when you throw a curveball

Imagine trevor bauer as a pitching coach and Josh donaldson as a hitting coach
So, you want multiple 300K pitchers and multiple 50HR batters? Ok, I see you. 😂
JD can teach the infidel too. He helped Matt Chapman when the A's drafted him.
I think Pujols would be a better hitting coach. He’s the model of consistency. And obviously a first ballot HOFer

Trevor is an amazing coach and we need more Marika content!
More Marika content is on the way!!
This is probably the most informative video I’ve seen in a while. I haven’t played any ball since I was a teen and am fairly rusty. I checked my pitching motion and I had to turn my brain off to see naturally how I move. Definitely flawed but I did well with rotating my hips then torso. Baseball is the greatest game, so many nuances
1:01 oh, we know Trevor
A few years ago i said that tb is my fav player whos not a dodger, thank u for signing with l.a. Dodgers
Outstanding. Most training vids will show...something like...."welll I kinda just hold it like THIS and let 'er fly" Trevor really teaches in this and that's super cool.
AS A COLLEGE PITCHER ITS EXTREMELY HARD TO LEARN, OR RELEARN THE BASICS, THANKS MAN YOU DEFINITELY HELP A LOT 🙏🏾💯 ( all caps cause that’s what gangsters do 🤣🤷🏽♂️)
More content like this, please! She’s so damn lucky to get a personalized lesson from Trevor. , but we all get to learn from it too. Thanks!

You just inspired every kid in the country!

I'm 63-4 and I'm wanting a box of balls and a camera and a radar gun, batting box, then teach little leaguer's.
“Throw the ball at the wall and catch it behind your back” - I thought he was showing off, but the reason for this drill is very smart.
Te Gangsta curve worked wonders for me. my velo on my curve increased by almost 10 and the vertical break increased by like 9 inches!
I really like the coaching/instruction type content. More of this, please.
If these two had a child it’d pop out holding the Cy Young
It would probably throw out the placenta with 3,000 rpm spin rate.
@@brandonutterback3789 I have 2500rpm on my curveball, is that good? I’m not trying to brag or bs. I read it off rapsodo and I really can’t find anything to compare to it to and I didn’t know what the average is for it.

12:58 I wanna see Trevor back in the MLB so he can preach these sorts of pitching techniques to anyone and everyone that will listen. He's not torquing his elbow, he's not flicking a wrist, none of that. He's letting the grip and technique do the work. This is why you'll still see Trevor Bauer throwing gas and some nasty curveballs 10 or 15 years from now, without needing Tommy John surgery or any other serious injuries. His technique throws great pitches, and also prevents injury. It's great, more players should learn this way!
This guy is so zen, measured, and connects content with athlete so well. So sad most kids will never learn like this.
This was the best instruction on the pitching form I ever saw, a little depressing as I really needed this years ago, boy I wish I grew up next to Trevor, I had two AA offers just on a pure arm with no instruction, then ended up with family and parental responsibility and then time flew by, but if I had a video like this years ago it would have propelled me, players today have no idea how lucky they are that they have Trevor and YT to help them, this is amazing, it's a 'how to be a surgeon in one instructional video', if you have the talent and you listen to everything Trevor says here, you are making all the teams...simply amazing....THANK YOU TREVOR...
This is the best video I’ve watched in years. Please do more like this one
Besides all the live ab videos this is right there. One of the best explanations on how to throw a baseball and how to throw a curveball. Well done sir
Wish I had somebody with his knowledge teach me when I was younger!!! Awesome coaching, love the content!!
And she's there al high and not using Trevor to his full potential hahaha
Sick. I learned to throw a curve based off of Eric Gagne's grip, which is very similar to how Bauer throws it. The "finger gun" curve.
Trevor is a wonderful teacher, some really great wisdom being imparted
I had Trevor wrong.. seems like a cool guy! You can tell a lot about a person from how they teach!
that gun method is incredible!!!!! my nephew is a pitcher. i've been working with him on and off since he was in little league. he's in the 8th grade now, so I'd REALLY love to show him this video and have him try it out.
these vids make me happy
Man I love Trevor. He's part of what got me watching baseball again. I quit when my man, The Kid, retired. #GriffeyJristheBestEver

one of my favorite videos yet, trev!
i really like how you explain and teach pitching.
as a pitcher for many years, i wish i had these pointers at my disposal!
it would have made a world of difference!
wish that you could have taught me the curve ball when I was pitching, Your instructions are so much easier than anything I was ever taught. Great video
I don't pitch but I find it fascinating and love baseball I can't tell you how much I love this episode
The part where you said that you want to throw the ball THROUGH the wall, and not CUT the ball, is absolutely brilliant
This is the first time i have ever heard and been shown how to throw a curveball! Why doesnt anyone else explain it that easy. I assumed you had to snap your wrists to get that spin.. of course its way too late to make a difference for me.. lol but i just always wondered how to correctly throw it. My dad pitched in the minor leagues in the Phillies organization back in the 60s but he never really taught me. He would say it was like the action of “pulling down a window shade” i can see that now, but didnt explain what to do with the wrists and hold the ball.. but now i know. Trevor people dont know who you are. They assume.. for you to do videos like this for the fans is such a big deal. Thank you man.. even for a man long since his prime learns a lot from your videos.
2:15 "set your eyes on a target" as hes looking at her butt 😂 my man!
Ok but how do you throw the “on probation for racketeering curveball”
Oh no oh no oh no no no no no. He should teach us how to get a "good chemist" or a "good lawyer" fast ball.
sitting here practicing the arm angles and flow of the gangster curveball, excited to try to throw it because it seems nasty and defiantly will tale a lot off stress off flicking my wrist
That was fantastic, Trevor Bauer
I've been trying to throw a curve for years.... just tried again using gangster method. I can't believe it.... I can throw a curveball now.
I've always thrown mine this way and thought I was just "doing it wrong" but it worked. I was kinda shocked to see Trevor throws his the same way.

Or the time he said his target is the logo on her chest... I think that's every man's target. It can be used anywhere. At the grocery store, at work, at church, virtually anywhere!
Beautiful pitching mechanic maybe the greatest sight on earth.. I remember watching Tim Lincecum, his delivery was as smooth as Griffey’s swing.
Dr Bauer: my great Uncke Lloyd “Gimpy” Brown was a Dodger at 20 years old, called out of Ardmore, Ok with a 17-1 record by early July, leading Texas League in K’s. ( doctors said he would never play sports again after breaking his leg in HS football ( one leg was a few inches shorter after cast removed)....well, he went on to pitch for Walter Johnson’s Senators, etc, and pitched til 52 yrs old in pro Ball.....his sister, my Grandma, sure could play ball, like the men....boy are these women talented, so nice to see Dr Bauer helping them along, very touching for me....loved my baseball grandma, like no other. Find something you love and you won’t work a day in your life. Always thought that was bs until I started watching Trevor a while back. I’m happy for him.
He's happy for him. His smile as he said, "this is where I live". Satisfaction on his face! One of the only times he let himself go, otherwise it's the business of learning. Serious learning. Hey straighten up over there. I will make an example of you.
There's a way to increase a fastball speed just by putting the 2 top fingers closer together, even touching each other. Won't help for control but it creates less drag.
This video was great. I wish Trevor would walk us through his weighted ball routines and slider as well.
Thanks for sharing man. This is really appreciated! I probably would still have a labrum if I had access to this a few years ago.

He absolutely will be a pitching coach when his career is over. Very easy to understand, breaks it down to easy fundamental levels, and seems great to work with.
I hope he's the commissioner of baseball someday. He absolutely would make the game better.
this really helped me, thank so much trevor
God, I wish I had somebody this knowledgeable back in my high school/little league days.
Who needs a MLB pitching coach when you have Coach Bauer on your staff?! One of the intangibles provided that was overlooked.
Yeah he's known for basically coaching the entire pitching staff wherever he plays. He genuinely knows more about pitching than damn near anyone. Maybe 2nd behind the guy who fixed Nolan Ryan's throw and made his last years in baseball his most successful, with the least injury. And that same coach also taught Tom Brady how to throw better too, in a way that reduced the chance of injury while also being a better, stronger, more accurate throw. Brady saught him out because he's so well known amongst athletes. I can't remember his name but there's a GQ video on TH-cam about it, if you search for "the coach who trained and fixed nolan Ryan GQ" or something and you should find it. It's just as fascinating as this Trevor Bauer video although it's more about his history than the mechanics of baseball. But yeah he has a pitching school now where he trains tons of people
Everyone needs to learn the curve like this. Brilliant.
I am duly impressed by both instructor and student. Nicely done 👌🏾
I wish TH-cam and videos like these were available when I was younger and serious about sports (96-02) we had too order videos stuff off the phones and cost small fortunes lol I would’ve taken baseball even more serious with info and tips available from pros and the greats like Trevor if it was just a click away lol
