That connection to the Jackson family gets really interesting, even though it's only by marriage and not a blood relation. Michael Jackson was married to Elvis's daughter Lisa Marie Presley, bringing another big musical link. She in turn was married to Nicolas Cage, who is part of the Coppola family, a huge film dynasty, and was once married to Patricia Arquette, who is part of the Arquette acting dynasty.

    • @cakt1991

There are a lot of crazy connections like that, and it really shows how interconnected Hollywood is. Diana Ross has a son from her second marriage, Evan, and he’s married to Ashlee Simpson, Jessica’s sister. Ashlee was once married to Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, and, of course, Jessica was once married to Nick Lachey. I’m sure there are other connections in there too, and it could go on forever.

You know about 20years ago my eyes would've popped wide open, at this revelation. But since Ancestry DNA came on tv, and I started seeing so many ppl who thought they were just of one race, find they had mixtures of other races in their blood line this don't surprise me at all. Can't wait to have one done on my heritage.
This is a well put together family tree and what it's showing me is how, in the end, everyone will finally see how we are all really closely related as being brorhers and sisters. And we are on the same playing, and all have one enemy, and the enemy is not our brorhers or sisters. Once this finally set into everyone's mind, maybe then everyone will work together, and not against each other.

There is a question, among family members, as to the actual incident costing Mr Gaye his life (wife is closely acquainted with dime family members).
Perhaps someday, it will be explained.

Great job putting Barry's history together. I lived in Detroit a number of years ago and call the Motown Museum and was able to schedule a meeting with Ester Gordy. They told me when I arrived I would have only 30 minutes with Ester. However, she and I had a great time taking and sharing. She told me about being Stevie Wonder's 'segregate mother for his European Tour when it was still a minor and many other wonderful stories. I only wish I had recorded that meeting. She was a wonderful woman and I was privileged to have met and spend those few hours with her.

6:50 Well that explains why Michael Jackson sang that hook for him. People always seem to act like it was a mystery why Michael was on that song because most people dont think the verses are that good. But that explains it perfectly. Rockwll is Barry Gordy's son. Thats crazy. Also the LMFAO guy, thats sort of even crazier.
9:00 Let me stop you right here.... my last name is Jackson.

Two of Berry Gordy's wives had children, Thelma Coleman his 1st wife had 3, Hazel, Berry IV, and Terry. Wife #2, Raynoma had his son Kerry. That is a picture of his 2nd wife, not his 1st wife. They both should have been pictured, labeled correctly, out of respect, and not treated as one of the 'other relationships.' Grace Eaton, wife #3 had no children with Berry Gordy.

There's a lot of illegitimate kids in that family tree. You presented it neatly, but if it was done with circles with spokes for every relationship, Barry III would look like a giant amoeba with all his assorted offspring. Also, the Beyonce link is kind of weak, as her mom is married to a guy that used to be married to his neice. Music people must socialize quite a bit together to form all these liaisons. Good job!

in the Louis Gates PBS TV program that traces DNA for celebrities, it was shown that Oprah is quite unusual in that she had no immediate European ancestry, being descended from exclusively African ancestry. I also read that Elvis was descended from Cherokee ancestry so maybe there is the link within Native American ancestry?
