Not sure if you'd only consider real life people, or if you'd include fictional people. If you are including fictional people, a look at Bruns Clan, from the book The Clan Of The Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel would be a fascinating watch.
It shows that all of us have unique ancestry (I think it is just easier for him to do royalty and Nobel because they kept strict records of their dynasties for thousands of years while for most people it of far harder and would mostly start in last 300 years)

So, I was watching this because I am a big fan of The Rock, when the name Dembo Sickles came up. I've been working on my family genealogy for a while, and the name Dembo Sickles isn't one you hear often, but I have one in my family tree. Sure enough, it turns out that Rocky Johnson is a distant cousin, meaning I'm distantly related to Dwayne!
That’s a Prince Edward Island name that many white families, as well as black families had because of the amount of interracial marriages in that family
That is already a happen, as Rocky Johnson was known to get around. I think at last count he had five kids outside of marriage that is known about at present.
So not only is the Rock Canadian on his paternal side but his last name comes from a completely unrelated boxer his dad wanted to honor. Also love the detail of Maui being modeled after his material grandfather.

While I know nothing about the Samoan "blood relative" tradition outside of this video, I loved how you treated those with such a relation with the same respect as those who have a genetic relation, and thinking about that makes me think it would be nice if you made a future video exploring other traditions from around the world involving adopting (etc) other people who aren't genetically related as family members and how such a system might differ from our typical Western understanding of family trees and the legal/social consequences that these traditions have.
I know Japan has practiced adult adoption in cases when a master craftsman, who would typically train up and pass the family concern on to his son, wishes to instead bestow the firm to a non-blood-related apprentice.
In many cultures, adoption (even of adults) is a legitimate (and not at all unusual) route to ensure the survival of "the family name" or to ensure succession goes to a competent figure (that's often already blood-related, somehow), rather than allowing a moron (resulting from too much inbreeding) to ruin it all.
Ethnic Albanians have something similar where men can make “blood brother” pacts and the members of those relationships are often held in slightly higher reverence than blood relations. My grandpa has a “blood brother” and their family has been included in everything my family does since before I was ever born
Wrestling and UsefulCharts isn't a crossover I expected, but I welcome it! Fascinating to hear about Rocky Johnson's side of the family, I never knew anything about it. I'd love more of these!
Same here 😅. I've wanted Matt to expand his topics into more fictional families and wrestling families. And after like 3 years of waiting, this vid did not disappoint. Personally I would love to see a Bret Hart family tree (because both Matt and the Harts are Canadian lol)
Even more interesting: The tag team that Rocky Johnson & Tony Atlas defeated to become the then-WWF’s first Black champions was none other than The Wild Samoans.
Rocky Johnson and Tony Atlas could not stand each other, hence why the team was short lived. Once they got out of active wrestling, then they got along better.
