I thought about that but decided against it because in her case, her tragedy was the direct result of her own father's actions, not some sort of outside force or unexpected accident. I think that's an important point to be remembered.
@@UsefulChartsHe acted under medical advice and the procedure was done by a doctor, so it's not like he did it himself. It was just a bad medical decision to perform a procedure that wouldn't be made today.
Matriarch Rose Kennedy once famously commented that her life could be described as the title of a Michelangelo biography called "The Agony and the Ecstasy". In that same interview in the 1970s, the interviewer asked, in polite terms, if she was at least happy to have had her son be president despite the assassination, and she said "No", that no success could overcome the horror of assassinations.
Honestly, poor woman. You lose your eldest to war, your next two sons to assassinations. Your eldest daughter is subjected to a medical procedure you never gave consent for that destroys her. Like, how much grief can one woman bear? Her and Ethel Skacel… man. You’ve got to be a powerful person with fortitude beyond comprehension not to be utterly consumed by grief.
@@Chaotic_PixieYeah, you could be one of the most awful rude nasty people and I still wouldn't wish for all the tragedy that Rose Kennedy saw in her life. She lived until 104, almost 105. Even with that much time, she saw a lot of awful things befall her family.
@Petey0707 The hell you even talking about? Kennedy wasn't the one who got the US involved in the war directly, he was dead by a few years by the time it even happened??
I think Rosemary should count as part of the curse. Her initial mental delays were caused by a botched birth that left her brain without oxygen for a time which caused her future behavioral problems. She then had the lobotomy so not to have those behavioral problems interfere with her brother's political careers. She may not have died from it but it sounds pretty cursed to me.
Here's a connection for you. Jackie Bouvier's sister was married to William A. V. Cecil Cecil was the younger son of Cornelia Stuyvesant Vanderbilt (1900-1976) and English-born aristocrat John Francis Amherst Cecil (1890-1954). He was the grandson of George Washington Vanderbilt II and Lord William Cecil, the great-grandson of William Henry Vanderbilt and William Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Exeter. His maternal great-great grandfather was railroad and steamship baron, Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt. Jackie's distant cousin is Anderson Cooper of CNN, who's mother was Gloria Vanderbilt, daughter of millionaire equestrian Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt of the Vanderbilt family and socialite Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt, and Reginald's patrilineal great-grandfather was business magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt, Cornelius Vanderbilt's great-great-great-grandfather, Jan Aertson or Aertszoon ("Aert's son"), was a Dutch farmer from the village of De Bilt in Utrecht, Netherlands, who emigrated to New Amsterdam (later New York) as an indentured servant in 1650.[ The Dutch van der ("of the") was eventually added to Aertson's village name to create "van der Bilt" ("of the Bilt"). This was eventually condensed to Vanderbilt. Jan's son, Anthony Janszoon van Salee was one of Cornelius Vanderbilt's great-great-great-great-grandfathers. Jan and Anthony were privateers working out of Morocco and Anthony is thought to be the first Muslim in the colonies. Anthony's daughter Annica, married Thomas Southard. Their daughter Abigail was the great-great-grandmother of Cornelius Vanderbilt Thomas and Annica's son, Isaac, is a direct line ancestor of my mother, whose grandfather was Lawrence Southard of Iowa. That makes me a distant cousin to both Cooper and Jackie. Yeah, the Kennedy's have a VERY illustrious family line.
If you watch "Grey Gardens", you'll see they call each other big/little Eee-die, not Ed-ie, same as most people shorten the common pronunciation of Edith. Also, it's "You-niss" for Eunice, not how you were saying it "You-neice".
In the alt-history streaming series "For All Mankind", Ted Kennedy's ill-fated vacation never happened because of the surprising news that the Soviets landed a man on the Moon first. He then went on to beat Nixon in 1972, but lost to Reagan in '76.
Rosemary should be considered a close-call case because of how bad her lobotomy went and how she survived through the instutionalisation and had sympathetic family on the other side.

When my dad was a young man, he once caddied for Jackie O., while she was golfing at the country club where he worked. It was either in Massachusetts or Rhode Island (we're New Englanders), but I don't know which country club/golf course he worked at, at the time. For a while, he worked at the Pleasant Valley Country Club; it may have been there, but I don't know for sure..
The video fails to mention that the original Kennedy in America, Pat, or Patrick Kennedy, died when his son P.J. Kennedy was just an infant of less than a year old. It was his widowed mother that raised him, and she was Bridgett Murphy of Wexford, Ireland. She molded him, financed his first business venture which was a tavern, and which led to his political career. There is more Murphy in the first political Kennedy, P.J., than there is Kennedy. Re: the supposed curse. If a family has that many members, a certain percentage will die early, also a certain percentage won't. It's not likely in my little family with 2 siblings and only one child. If a family has that many politicians, they're going to take more plane trips than any average family.
Well I have heard about Kennedy Family Tree originating from Ireland back to date: 900 A.D. In a fact, the Kennedy family immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts during the Great Potato Famine occurred in Ireland. My close college friend at Gallaudet University told me about Kennedy curse in the story while having our chats in the college cafeteria on the campus as I still was at Gallaudet University during my old college days.
Also not so fun fact Ethel Skakel Kennedy's nephew Michael were accused of killing Martha Moxley. He was convicted in the 2000s but got out on appeal. My mom;s friend found Martha's body. My mom says Michael did it, but my aunt is convinced his brother Tommy did it. So yeah
Teddy Kennedy’s accident at Chappaquiddick was not less than a year after Bobby’s assassination. Bobby Kennedy died on June 6, 1968. Chappaquiddick occurred on July 16-18, 1969. That’s more than a year, not less than.
If there was some sort of cause for the curse, I think it was what happened to Rosemary. It's sickening that a father would ever do that to their own child
I definitely agree that what he did wasn't helpful at all. But it wasn't her cause of death. If she got the lobotomy as a teen & died at 86, she probably didn't die from it.
I noticed once you hadn't done the Adamses yet, so that could definitely be in the future sometime. I wonder if any American politics charts that don't have to relate to genealogy would be good since while we have political families we don't have any hereditary political offices.
William Cavendish was connected to British politics. His uncle was Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, who served while JFK was President. I’m surprised that wasn’t mentioned.
These family trees are so intriguing, seeing the patterns in family history. I read in the Alexander Hamilton biography that his lineage can be tracked to the 14th century in Scotland, do you think you’d do a video on that 👀👀
Great video as usual, though I would like to note that before RFK Jr. was known for conspiracy theories and vaccine misinformation, he was known for being an environmental lawyer.

A group of (mostly) Irish individuals who were falsely blamed/ pinned by English Police as IRA bombers during the Troubles. The movie 'In the name of the Father' (starring Daniel Day-Lewis) covers alot of this incident.

Rfk jr's son with Richardson is Connor Kennedy, who is onow to have dated Taylor Swift, so i gues that makes her an unoficial part of the family tree as well. He would later serve as a volunter in Ukraine
From what I’ve read, Rosemary was capable of taking care of herself despite her mental limitations. She was mildly handicapped in that regard. But the lobotomy completely destroyed her.
Great video Matt. Joe Kennedy III seemed to be on the rise in Massachusetts a few years back. I think he erred by taking on the incumbent Democratic Senator from Ed Markey. Ed became the first politician to beat a Kennedy in Mass, on a pretty grand stage nonetheless. Ed is an effective and popular Senator and Joe may have overplayed his hand in taking him on when he did. I think he may have had more success taking on Elizabeth Warren but maybe he didn't want to wait a few more years because of Presidential ambitions or maybe he didn't want to take on another Harvard elite.
I'm sorry but I don't think RFK Jr. is most known for his conspiracy theories. I would argue he is most known for his work as attorney. I knew about RFK Jr. due to his work as an attorney far before I learned about his stances on specific topics.
Did you know that according to Geni the bloodline of John F. Kennedy is going back to "George Douglas, born 1469", who connects the Kennedys to the Habsburg family? Starting with George Washington a lot of American Presidents are connected to the Habsburg family. According do some sources the Habsburg family has bloodlines back to the Roman Caesars, Pharaos and even Chinese Emperors. But this is probably normal for genealogy going back a long time, as all modern people are more or less directly connected.
Did I miss mention of Kathleen 'Kick' Kennedy who died in a plane crash with her married lover in 1948? The family didn't attend the funeral as they were ashamed of her affair with a married man - and a protestant one at that.
Her dad did attend the funeral. Nobody else was ashamed of the affair other than her mother. Her siblings didn’t attend the funeral because JFK who was supposed to plan their plane tickets broke down and couldn’t bring himself to go. Later on they did visit her grave and stayed close with the Cavendish family.
The original Rat Pack was started in the late 40s-early 50s by Humphrey Bogart, Frank Sinatra, and others. They met at Bogart and Bacall’s mansion and when Bogart died in 1957, Frank Sinatra took over.
When Rose Kennedy was in labor with Rosemary the doctor had not arrived yet so the nurse held Rose’s legs together for 2 hours, likely causing Rosemary to suffer brain damage Devonshire is pronounced Devonshir. Marquess is pronounced Marquiss.
@19:36 just for clarity, after Patrick J. Kennedy snr, there has been Patrick J. Kennedy jnr, Patrick J. Kennedy II, Patrcik J. Kennedy II, Patrick J. Kennedy II (no typo, I did there has been 3 of them), and Patrick J. Kennedy III. Perhaps someone should thought that one through.
there's a kennedy dynasty in other independent fiefdoms of the historical british isles plus I think the butler dynasty claimed ormonde eventually in ireland and was it shared...anyway irish kennedys were grouped according to hair colour i.e. the red kennedys, etc.. another thing is peerage for ormonde exists in the british system also

As a star wars fan, you were scaring me with those 2 Kathleen Kennedys
why didn’t you mention rfk jr’s environmental record?
I wish someone would point out Trump's environmental record to RFK Jr.
I'm sorry but I don't think RFK Jr. is most known for his conspiracy theories. I would argue he is most known for his work as attorney. I knew about RFK Jr. due to his work as an attorney far before I learned about his stances on specific topics.
Ethal is now gone, too.! Oct 10th,2024.
13:44 Matt, you skipped over Golden Boy!
I love how he had to put Schwarzenegger in a smaller size 😂
Great family tree video. You should do more of those. I'd suggest the Bushes. Thanks, Matt!
This is low-key like a sims 4 legacy challenge family.
Aideen Kennedy was a news presenter in Northern Ireland.
Great video! Didn't know so many people were connected to this family
The rat pack was not from the 1940s. The majority of their movies were made during the 1960s including ocean 11.
The original Rat Pack was started in the late 40s-early 50s by Humphrey Bogart, Frank Sinatra, and others. They met at Bogart and Bacall’s mansion and when Bogart died in 1957, Frank Sinatra took over.
When Rose Kennedy was in labor with Rosemary the doctor had not arrived yet so the nurse held Rose’s legs together for 2 hours, likely causing Rosemary to suffer brain damage
Devonshire is pronounced Devonshir.
Marquess is pronounced Marquiss.
Sure Ted accidentally crashed his car…he still never called for help and a woman died. Normal people go to prison.
Agreed.
The people of Massachusetts love him.🤷🏽♀️
@19:36 just for clarity, after Patrick J.
Thanks for update to this line, great video!
Jack Schlossberg looks like the type of guy who’d break your hand in a handshake. Somehow I think of that as a positive
W Userful Charts, Love your videos! Also why do you not show more of the family and just say the couple has x more kids!
Usually if someone on his chart is a private person he doesn't have a picture for them. Or there isn't room on the chart for a picture 😊
You're just in time!
I'm interested to hear more about what "Countess of the Holy See" means! That's not a title I've ever heard before.
Boiling RFK Jr.’s career down to buzzwords and headlines that aren’t even true is exactly the reason this country is failing.
“Mostly known” does not equal to facts.
SHAME ON YOU for your description of RFK Jr! I don't support him. But no mention of his ACTUAL CAREER as an environmental lawyer??!
I'd love to see a Trudeau family tree video
Love the pronunciation of Shanahan hahahahahaha
Watched 3x and played for my sons… thx for the in depth breakdown of American history
So glad Jack Schlossberg is represented 😂
Correction: Joan and Victoria Kennedy are also still alive
they are spouses not siblings
@@eileensmith05 no Matt said Ethel Kennedy is the only living person from that generation but Victoria and Joan are also still alive
@@aaravnovids2017 Ethel has no living siblings, only in laws
@@eileensmith05 Ethel was a spouse of a Kennedy just like Joan and Victoria.
I've been mistaken. I thought of Ethel as a kennedy sibling.
I like that the pic of Chris Pratt is from Guardians
there's a kennedy dynasty in other independent fiefdoms of the historical british isles plus I think the butler dynasty claimed ormonde eventually in ireland and was it shared...anyway irish kennedys were grouped according to hair colour i.e. the red kennedys, etc.. another thing is peerage for ormonde exists in the british system also
De butlers were the earls of Ormond seated at Kilkenny castle ireland . These Kennedy’s came from Wexford
10:06 John : 🫡
