Brad Davis, was not gay. He was a herion addict. The use of shared needles in his past, was what caused his death from HIV. Brad Davis was a talented character actor, as was Freddie Mercury, was a lifted singer. He could sing in any octave. That is a gift from God.❤🙌🏽💯
I lost a very talented gay friend to aids in 1985, today with the drugs that are available he'd still be alive possibly with next to no viral load. It's sad to think of him dying in his mid 20s in a pretty horrific manner. A portrait of him was carried in one of the first parades to support efforts to battle aids and he has a block in the aids quilt. RIP Tacky Jeppi lots of us never forgot you my friend.
I had no idea some of these people were gay. Very great performer's. Rock Hudson was the big shock to me growing up...I was 18 in the late 70s and then in the 80s we had AIDS. I've been there when it was first introduced. Scary to think i was so close but yet I was blessed. Blessings always.
At that time I had surgery and needed blood. A friend was in the hospital at the same time and had blood too. Nobody really know much about HIV and he got sick due to the blood he got. It was a big wake up call.
@ulrikebush5025 - OMG so sad for your friend. Just like US tennis great Arthur Ashe. He contracted HIV from blood transfusion while undergoing heart bypass operation & died from AIDS related (pnuemonia). Very sad & tragic. He was 49 years old!
sadly we have lose way way to many beautiful souls to that horrid illness, and it does not matter whether they were gay, bi. or straight, none of them should ever be forgotten
In the world of arts, ballet or skating, fashion or hairdressing, being gay has never been regarded as something "strange". Everybody knew who was such, and never bothered about it
True, I was just 18 when I met my soulmate at the academie where we were studying to become classical dancers, it never became a problem and later after becoming a principal dancer in a big company even less ! I remember by chance hearing about this new disease in the early eighties, I think because I was in a steady relationship with my partner that I never got infected, but so many of my collega's did, often dying in horrible circumstances, being abandoned by everyone ! A whole generation of talented young people that could have enriched the life of us all was lost to the world, so sad !
Mt girl friends Mom had surgery for gall bladder, had a nicked artery and blood transfusion and got hiv. Small town Kansas scandal. No blood testing then 😢😢
And how many people got AIDS from dental utensils. They weren't cleaned good, or throw away ones like they use now. No different than the shared needles. Scary times!
Queen were never seen as important to music ever and Freddie Mercury solo stuff was seen as a joke so he wasn't a loss to music when never contributed anything anyway
To the content creator. The choice of using upbeat jazzy background music is inappropriate for the subject of this video. These people died. Tell me why you chose to use upbeat jazzy background music?
Not to agree with the content creator, for their choice, but to give a possible theory to your question. Yes, they died tragically and young. But, maybe the choice of music was to celebrate their life, not their death. To remember the happines and joy they brought to the people who knew or knew of them. Maybe that theory will help.
I remember having Freddy's posters on my walls growing up. My brother sat me down and trying to convince me Freddy was bisexual. I didn't want to believe him. Then my mom showed me a newspaper clipping of announcing he was sick. When i read the article, my brother goes "told ya sis." I ended up throwing the whole paper at him. Lol.
It's such a tragedy so many innocent lives have been cut short by this ravaging disease. So sad. I miss Freddie, he was kind and loving, and he really loved his Beautiful Kitties ❤❤❤❤❤
…also, the music choice is annoying - actually music is not needed. Only need the dialogue with correct pronunciation of last names like Mayor Koch is pronounced “Kotch, rhymes with “notch”.
The photo on the intro was not gay. Brad Davis I believe his name was and starred in Midnight Express .I believe it was from a blood transfusion, as was the wife of Paul Michael Glazier.
I was so heartbroken back then and although I had seen a couple of gay people i didn't know anyone gay or anything back then it was like that I just remember no way to help anyone except death i used to just think horrible horrible thoughts about all this i feel bad for everyone who passed of aids terrible thing
When AIDS was identified in the early 80s, I and most of my straight friends became celibate and stocked up on condoms in case we did indulge. I honestly never understood why gays were so careless when the consequence was death.
What a cruel statement: ‘ I never understood why gays were so careless when the consequence was death’!! Seriously ????!!! Please do your research. Carefully. By the time HIV and AIDS came to the forefront, most individuals had already been infected. AIDS is not a gay disease either. It does not discriminate. It decimated the lives of millions of people. Politicians and Governments were ‘hesitant’ to really pull the trigger early on the warnings…… a painful and dreadful time in history. R.I.P to all those beautiful souls lost to this cruel disease. 💔
It certainly was not only gay men who were sick and dying through carelessness. Certainly in this part of the world. There is the cultural aspect, polygamy, not questioning or challenging men, education or lack thereof. People doing migrant work with the subsequent fracturing of families. I can't begin to tell you how many grandmothers were singlehandedly raising their grandchildren. And then of course there's the problem of humankind ie "it won't happen to me". Also, even in a marriage, none of us truly know whether or not our partner is playing away, straight of gay. The gay community is very complex for a whole lot of reasons, one of those being families who rejected them, and finding "new families" within the community. There were a lot of gay people getting married in order to not be shunned by loved one's and society, too, but eventually what the heart wants, the heart will be sure to get, and interludes - fleeting and secret - probably led to some recklessness as condoms weren't uppermost in minds. Some country's still have the death penalty for same- sex relationships, and some families will kill those who are seen as bringing shame to their family name. Geographic reasons - sometimes condoms aren't available, or available but not affordable. Then there are religious beliefs, taboos etc. Incorrect understanding of the virus and how it's transmitted. It's far too complex to go through the many factors re why people take a chance.
@@LaurelCurtis-t1f this comes from someone misinformed by the press, government and ignorance. AIDS was identified in the late 70s HIV later as the precursor. Stocking up on condoms in the 80s was shutting the door after the horse had bolted. Sex was not the only way to get infected .Shared needles affected more straight! people and using sex workers. Governments in all countries ignored the disease because it only affected gay men. Then people with blood disorders were infected by untreated blood . By the time your friends bought condoms in the 80s the decease was already rampant. The Christian thing is and was not to judge or be judged but to help. HRH Diana did this, not treat humans like animals lock them away to die alone, in the past it was done to people who were Downs , born with disability, thankfully we have learned.
Every bacteria/virus is curable alternative way..of course school medicine says otherwise because they would loose profits if the truth would come out..
Stigmatisation always lead to a moment of emancipation that can be reckless. In other words, people that are discriminated often times force their own freedom. In the case of gays, the emancipation is sexual. Imagine forcing yourself to have sex with the gender you are not attracted to and pretending you love someone you don't really love. Once you'd be liberated from those chains, don't you think you would experiment things? Also, it was common practice even amongst heterosexuals to not protect themselves against STDs back in the days. This reckless emancipation phenomenon can be seen nowadays in kid actors and singers emancipating from Disney. Just think of Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus.
What I loved about Freddy Mercury is that he said he would not fix his teeth when asked if he would. He explained his teeth shaped his mouth which was his musical instrument, why fix something that is working.
I lost so many fruends from aids. My generation was the one that held the most promise post ww2. My generation was bursting with talented people from all professions and walks of life. Designers, hairdressers, actors, choreographers, musicians, djs, models, dancers and entertainers. Gone. All gone.
It's a German name that can be pronounced Kosh or Koh (the h aspiration is exagerated, sounds almost like a French "r" or a Spanish "j") depending on the German accent. ✌️
Who would have guessed some of these well known names were Gay until now? not me for sure, but at the end of the day its the contribution they made for great entertainment that matters above anything else.
Being gay has nothing to do with how great these people were So glad it’s not hidden anymore I have many gay friends I love each one of them as a straight woman it just don’t matter just love one another ❤it’s not contagious RIP all you wonderful people you all changed our lives in many ways❤️❤️❤️❤️
So sad. These were my brothers, and they died from a terrible disease. Just as the potato blight of Ireland in 1847 was hatefully managed into a horrible famine, HIV/AIDS was hatefully managed into a purge of my fellow gays. God rest their souls. I try to help now the way we all should have helped back then. I regret serving a Mormon mission; I should have stayed in San Francisco and helped my suffering gay brothers.
This is a heartbreaking disease and I would not want anyone to suffer. Wts, it goes to show God’s way is best. Being holy and being with a godly person is God’s plan. Doesn’t mean god wants people to stay in abusive relationships. But love and sex isn’t something people should play with. There’s a reason god has laws. They make a better LONGER life
@@Kiss_lynda, what laws are those? Paul banned premarital sex, and you call it God's law. Paul banned extramarital sex, and you call it God's law. Paul banned gay sex, and you call it God's law. Paul banned marital sex, and you say that was just him and is therefore non-binding. More people die and cut their lives short, as you would say, by eating cheeseburgers and fries, but you focus on gays, not for God, but out of bitter and blighted bigotry. Look within, Lynda. Look within.
I was born in 1971 and knew I was gay from the start. I remember finding out about AIDS in a Time Magazine article from the 1980s. It was scary but I did nothing to curb my conduct and I was as promiscuous as the best of them starting when I was 14. Somehow, I never got it. I knew so many guys who died. It was like being in a combat zone. “Did you hear that so and so got it?” And yet like a soldier I’ve walked through the mine field and survived. I’ve been to more funerals than I can count and I remember all those bright young men and I think why them and not me.
Respectfully, I wish you had included the immensely talented Tony Hamilton, actor and dancer, known for Mission: Impossible (1988) and Jon-Erik Hexum's successor on Cover Up. Might have been the next James Bond if it were not for the rumors surrounding his sexuality. Lost to AIDS far too soon, at age 42, in 1995. Forever loved and missed. ❤
Ed Koch did NOT die of AIDS! He was mayor during the AIDS epidemic, but died from something else many years later. And as a New Yorker I can assure you he pronounced his name as rhyming with Scotch.
Not being gay I do notice that most of these people had many different sexual partners. Would it not have been better to have a committed, monogamous relationship rather than a version of Charlie Sheen.
I had no idea that Keith Haring was from Reading Pennsylvania, where I live (and worked) my entire life.🤯 I work at a very interesting, different kind of (Tom Masano) auto park that has several of his paintings hand-painted on a few of the walls and I always thought they were cool. The owner of this place has had several very talented artists come in here. But those are some of my favorite paintings.
Don't you think this is getting old, AIDS was a terrible disease not taken seriously until it affected the wider population. No one actually died from Aids on the death certificate it would state Aids related . Perhaps it's time to leave these beautiful souls rest not attack them in death.
I agree that those who wanted to remain private should never be outed after their passing. Besides that, I think people shouldn't forget how many souls were taken by this cruel disease. I believe the cruelty of stigmatising this virus should be known about by generations who have been born into a world that is more tolerant than people were back then. It's not perfect, but at least it's improved. x

You mean Thatcher? I remember both her and Reagan weren't interested. We were the same in South Africa, even after AZT was available. Our Minister of Health and our President at the time absolutely refused to make medicine available. The Minister of Health told people to eat beetroot and African potatoes! I saw heartbreaking things during that time. A young couple and their newborn baby died. The man was a migrant worker from Zimbabwe, working in South Africa to make money to send home. He was very good looking and unfortunately had many girlfriends, His live-in girlfriend was pregnant and gave birth, but the baby, the mom and the dad all started getting very sick. He said all the doctors at the hospital could offer was Panado, which of course did nothing. First the baby, then the mom and then the dad all passed away. The little family unit was gone. We later found out that he was married in Zimbabwe and that his wife was sick and so was their baby. And there were people who were angry with him, but at that stage, it was too late, and so much loss. The kids are taught about HIV currently, but not very much is said, if anything, about the reality of what was happening. The President was replaced, and although his replacement caused problems in his own way, at least he welcomed medication. x

Why can't they upload videos with no background music at all?
MUTE... just a thought.
If you complain about the music in the background make it yourself and quit the criticism.
I gotta back you up on this!
Although I didn't really notice it so much in this video, a lot of great vids were ruined bc of cr*p music!
That has to be in the top 5, in the complaint dept, for videos!

They were pretty clear on that point. Not sure how you missed it
The narrator did not say he was gay. He specified it was drug related.

He shouldn’t have engaged in filthy acts
No music in the background it’s very distracting
This administration is bringing AIDS back at such an alarming rate!
I agree.
I posted that too, I had to click away, and he pronounced many names and words wrong. 😠
Why are pictures of Marlon Brando in the middle of the Rock Hudson bio
Because this is a trash video.
Marlon Brando had sex with Richard Pryor. Google it.
It's wonderful how this video pays tribute to the great actors we've lost. Your work is truly meaningful!
I had no idea some of these people were gay. Very great performer's. Rock Hudson was the big shock to me growing up...I was 18 in the late 70s and then in the 80s we had AIDS. I've been there when it was first introduced. Scary to think i was so close but yet I was blessed. Blessings always.
The main problem was not using protection…. Very sad! Why most of them are theatre performers?? Scary!
How could you not know they were gay?😂 They obviously all were
@dondamon4669 I was younger then they were. Probably older then you.
sadly we have lose way way to many beautiful souls to that horrid illness, and it does not matter whether they were gay, bi. or straight, none of them should ever be forgotten
Excellent audio quality and mixing.
When you talked about Denholm Elliott's credits, you forgot to mention "Brimstone and Treacle". A British movie starring Sting.
Yes... very interesting film to be watched for lovers of older English films....
In the world of arts, ballet or skating, fashion or hairdressing, being gay has never been regarded as something "strange". Everybody knew who was such, and never bothered about it
Gay people don't cause AIDS!
No blood testing then 😢😢
That happened so much before testing. Many contracted aids at no fault of their own. Will never forget the child Ryan white!
And how many people got AIDS from dental utensils. They weren't cleaned good, or throw away ones like they use now. No different than the shared needles. Scary times!
In the 80s- 90s American Red Cross was buying units of blood tainted with HIV/HCV from prisons and selling the blood to Hospitals.
The Rock Hudson segment has pix of Tab Hunter and Marlon Brando mixed in. There is a picture of Mr Rogers in Tony Perkins' segment.
What does that tell us about Mr. Rogers?
May they all rest in peace.
I loved Freddie Mercury what a shame, such a loss to music, there will never be someone like him again

Thank you. I hate it when they mispronounce names.
I too dislike mispronounced names.... IMO, it shows a lack of respect.
The Mayor of New York, Ed Koch, did not pronounce his name "Coke". He himself pronounced it "Kotch" like Scotch.

@lindaclarkq8326, Ya, and then it was Libercrotchie I believe?
Me too, I was ,5 years old.
AIDS is not a gay disease
either.
The late 80's was a horrible time for losing friends. The pubs ran empty and local performers dropped out of sight. And the stigma!
oh my god that music is driving me bonkers!!!!!
I agree.
Mute and put on closed caption. I couldn't take that music either!
It’s A Diversion From The Sad Facts.
I loved this man, his music was breathtaking.
Content is very interesting, but the background music is way too loud.
What I loved about Freddy Mercury is that he said he would not fix his teeth when asked if he would. He explained his teeth shaped his mouth which was his musical instrument, why fix something that is working.
Perkins was wonderful in the movie “ Do you like Bhrams” as a young man in live with an older woman Ingrid Bergman.

Lol, when do they ever get names right????
I say Londen, you say London, I say Berlijn, you Berlin, I say Parijs, you say Paris
It's a German name that can be pronounced Kosh or Koh (the h aspiration is exagerated, sounds almost like a French "r" or a Spanish "j") depending on the German accent. ✌️

Thats the way he himself pronounce it. Thats what counts.
This video should have included Raymond St.Jacques in 1990, Timothy Patrick Murphy 1988 and Dack Rambo in 1994. All died of AIDS. Rambo was bisexual.

Freddy was a genius. I absolutely loved him .❤🇦🇺
I don't say this to be mean.I say this, to be honest and truthful.Don't stick your hand in fire unless you want to get it burnt.
Why would anyone want to stick their hand in a fire?
Respectfully, I wish you had included the immensely talented Tony Hamilton, actor and dancer, known for Mission: Impossible (1988) and Jon-Erik Hexum's successor on Cover Up. Might have been the next James Bond if it were not for the rumors surrounding his sexuality. Lost to AIDS far too soon, at age 42, in 1995. Forever loved and missed. ❤
There were several clips of other stars. In Rock Hudsons clip they showed Marlon Brando. guess they didnt have enough dirt on them.
RIP to those stars that are now gone 😔😢🙏
I had no idea that Keith Haring was from Reading Pennsylvania, where I live (and worked) my entire life.🤯 I work at a very interesting, different kind of (Tom Masano) auto park that has several of his paintings hand-painted on a few of the walls and I always thought they were cool.

The President was replaced, and although his replacement caused problems in his own way, at least he welcomed medication. x
