- In the west coast of Ireland, a group of Irish women 40 to 80 years old swim every morning in the Atlantic cold waters come rain or shine. Martell, who hasn’t missed a day in 10 years now, let us know how is it for her and the swimmers to meet at the Ladies Beach in Galway, vent together under the cold water and share a hot coffee and a warm chat afterwards. A tight-knit bunch brought together by their love to the sea.

Thirty years ago as an American student at UCG I swam everyday at Black Rock. I loved it, and think about it still; the seals, the anemones waving in the current, the bleak beautiful solitude of winter and the gulls of the summer. Coming out of the water I always felt calmer, lighter in my own body, and renewed for the day ahead. Thank you for the film, I'd love to come join you again one day.

LOVE this. YES! We have Seals and Sea Lions... the Sea Lions are so curious, but they are huge. Love swimming with the Seals though. You are so lucky to have these spaces to change and gather. Irish/Scottish blooded Canadian, who has to change on the rocks or in the back of her small car.

My first of continue in the sea as the calendar changed into September, now every day that l go into the ocean is rejuvenating like nothing ever has been. I love the ocean in summer, but amazed its even better now. The bundled up people walking by have one of two reactions. Either just the look like, 🤪or interest and admiration. My companion and l of this trial of cold ocean swim. Tried a short wet suit, but for me naked would be my choice, bathing suit just social necessary. Something on my feet, barnacles and rocks my feet need protection. My last birthday was 70 and this makes me feel so amazing. What a way to go forward into the next chapter of “old aging”. Rock on

swimming in the sea could be too tiring to do it regularly, but to just be trapping water in the middle of the sea and enjoying the waves is good enough to lift up any mood. I wonder why no doctor advocate this to beating depression since it is so common among modern people

I'm curious why so few men seem to do this? I've started this month but I'm struggling to get back in as the really cold weather arrived this weekend. Planning to try and get in this week - I have a friend who swims with me and we're pushing each other to carry on. She normally only swims in summer so it's a challenge for us both!
