  • With many reported health benefits, cold water dipping is increasingly being tried out for the first time by intrepid swimmers.
    In this video, Liam and Nick from our water safety team explain how to enjoy cold water swimming safely, from what to take with you to how to avoid cold water shock.

    The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, lifeboat crews around the UK and Ireland are ready to launch to help those in need. Whether you're stuck on a sinking ship, cut off by a rapidly rising tide, or in the water and close to drowning, RNLI crew members will drop everything to come to your rescue. 95% of RNLI lifeboat crews and station staff are volunteers.
    But it’s not just lifeboats. RNLI lifeguards patrol 248 beaches across the UK and Channel Islands, keeping people safe, providing safety advice and rescuing those in trouble. Education volunteers visit schools and swimming clubs to help teach the next generation how to enjoy the water safely. And volunteer fundraisers and shop workers give up their time to generate vital funds. The RNLI is also working to help communities around the world that are most at risk of drowning.
    If you spot someone in trouble in the water, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.

    Good video very good I cold dip in a pool filled with underground water very cold. So cold you can knock your legs or hands blue only to realise afterwards the sea numbs you another danger ..

    I agree with @JohnSmith.
    Perfect timing for me as well. I’m gearing up to jump out of the pool and into the lake. Not literally of course. 😃
    I used to many moons ago at the lake I used to waterski at and want to regain that feeling.
    Thank you for posting. Some great tips. 🙏👍👍

    Love it, just started swimming in the sea and found this so helpful. Think you might have both been RAF squadron leaders in a former life though. Also sad that you both didn't have coffee!

      Thank you, that's great to hear. They might regret filming it in November with those taches! Liam certainly regretted not bringing his flask of coffee.

    Fab video but as a point I don't think it is fair to ask your doctor about whether it is safe for you to cold water swim. The research just isn't out there. Think about your medical conditions, what you can do & what you find difficult & make an informed decision on your own health, you know yourself better than anyone 😊

    • @kevinmathewson4272
      @kevinmathewson4272 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      depends on what the medical risk factor in question is. For some risk factors the research might be limited, but for others there's either plenty of research or it's the sort of thing a doctor knows even without research. There might be medical conditions where it's obvious to a doctor, even without a study, that cold water swimming with the condition would be risky.
