    I’m 63 years young…I always wanted to use a straight razor. I’d seen my grandfather use his, and thought I could tackle it without instruction…Man, was I wrong. I appreciate you teaching an old man new tricks .
    You are a good instructor, patient, and detailed. Thanks my man 🙏🏼

    Thank you Gillette!!! Had it not been for that brow beating lesson on toxic masculinity I never would have come here to witness this epic video on how to actually shave like a real man! Thank you, Mr. Abrams, for this great tutorial. I'm now a straight razor man for life!

    • @pattyorigami
      @pattyorigami 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Old Iron That's pretty cool about your razors! I finally got my first straight razor, strop, and shave soap in the mail and I was all gung-ho to dive in. But I had an awful first shave. Either the razor I got wasn't quite sharp enough, I didn't lather up enough, I didn't soak my face beforehand enough, or a combination of things. So for now I'll be ordering a whet stone and learning how to properly sharpen my blade and try again in a few days!

    • @pattyorigami
      @pattyorigami 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Old Iron Thanks for that info. I did, indeed strop before hand, at least 20x on the cotton part and about 50-60x on the leather. The soap I got was Colonel Conks and it was difficult to get it to lather. I have to admit that I got frustrated and cheated. I tried some Barbasol after a bit of painful shaving with the other. But even though that made the glide better, it still wasn't cutting the hair. Thanks to your input I can rule out the pre-shave soak and it seems, indeed, that the razor just isn't sharp enough.

    • @pattyorigami
      @pattyorigami 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Old Iron Oh, I only used the Barbasol out of frustration in case it was the lather that was my problem. Believe me, when I get it sorted out I plan not to cheat in the future.
      I confess that I did opt for a cheap razor since I have a tight budget. The brand of razor I got is Zertone. It seemed pretty sharp when I got it, but since it's my first straight razor I don't have anything to compare to.
      I'll try the method of shaving thin slices of the shave soap off and see if that helps me get a better lather. But first I'll be looking into having my razor sharpened or sharpening it myself to see if that improves matters.

    I'm actually so happy to hear that simply spanning the learning process over a few days is fine. I ended up doing the learning process for the same problem I was having today (in that my Adam's apple sticks out pretty far from my otherwise tight skin that makes a dip in the skin).
    I did pretty well everywhere else compared to last time, but was so focused on those two spots that I was getting frustrated. Now that the obvious has been pointed out, I'm content with learning bit by bit until I can finish my shave with my straight.
    P.S: I'm happy I am going from a safety razor to this, because angle is very important.

    Very informative video! I watched it a few times before actually attempting this and I was able to do it without cutting myself.
    By the way, nice ring Brother. Greetings from Ohio Freemasonry!

    Thank you for taking the time to make this video, very informative. I'm 22, bought my first razor kit and fought through the pain of the scrape for the last couple months, and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. It's all angle, as well as that warm brush trick. That was a great tip. My roughed-up neck and jaw line thank you

    Brother, thank you so much for this video! Always great to see a Brother sharing knowledge! I just got ahold of a beautiful-condition Wade & Butcher straight razor that I am looking forward to learning. I need a strop now, but I think I’m almost good to go with the theory. Now to practice the practice. This video helped a ton for wrapping my head around the motions!

    Thank You for this video. I can do this now! I finally got a good straight razor but when I tried to shave with it, I thought I had wasted my money, or more likely that I just did not know how to do it. After watching your video here, I have been able to shave with it. The key, and I would never have figured this out, is to keep the blade dry! As you say, you've gotta learn to use your tools. When I just want to touch up my neck a bit I do a dry shave with it and I can actually see the whiskers flying off!! I'm waiting to get a strop now. Thanks again Mr Abrams for teaching. You are a good teacher.

    Thorough instruction, no fluff and covers all I need to know to begin straight razor shaving. Thank you. That being said , your scar has me paying VERY close attention on what to do and esp what not to do. Starting with single pass on sideburns

      @@LynnSAbrams brother, I can relate to that basal cell carcinoma. I go to my dermatologist on a regular basis and on more than one occasion, she has removed a spot, (or two)…..
      I am now paying for spending way too much time in the sun playing golf, swimming, or playing baseball years ago without applying sun screen. Oh well, Keep getting your checkups on a regular basis!
