My dad always used an electric and none of my acquaintances used a straight razor, so I had no one to show me how to do it, including the prep. Fortunately in the internet age there are guys like you showing how it’s done.

Your videos saved my face! I've always struggled with ingrown hairs and fierce razor burn, ever since I started shaving. I finally made the leap from cartridge razors to the straight razor. Purchased the boker king cutter straight razor set, along with some proraso sensitive skin pre-shave and soap. Now the ingrown hairs and razor burn are a thing of the past. I just cant believe how well my skin looks. Thanks for your videos, best thing I ever came across on youtube.

Thank you for one of the most thorough straight shaving videos I've yet seen on the internet. Very clear video with an index at the beginning where to find the first, second, and third passes on the recording, explanations/demonstrations about grip and about which hand is used on parts of the face. Excellent work! Thanks so much for uploading. I'll be watching again and again.

This video is awesome and was a HUGE help in getting over that initial learning curve. Thanks Geofatboy. Pay special attention to when he goes the across the grain and against grain passes folks. When he switched hands on the neck area, I tried that on the rest of my face and IT WORKED. My learning curve was gone after trying this very same method. For 30 days, I struggled and couldn't get a good straight razor shave to save my life so I took a 2 month break and then went back to it and shaved with a straight razor for 60 days. I was getting better but not getting good enough results. So I watched this video and now, I'm getting BBS or baby smooth shaves with a straight razor. When I started switching hands, I also used the opposite hand to stretch the skin.

    Hello Geo:
My is Geno and I just inherit my grandfathers razor which he got in Germany during WWII.. My father learned to shave and only shaved this way. He thought me how to shave as well. Im just happy others can appreciate this art and hope to keep it alive. I indeed get a lot of questions and stares at the gym. Ciao bell!!

I bought a Dovo Solingen straight razor about a year and a half ago, and tried to shave with it for the first time ever, and started to shake like the barber in High Plains Drifter...so I put it up and never tried to use it until here recently, here lately I've been watching your tutorials (watched about 10 videos before trying to shave with mine) on how to shave with a straight razor, and have since been shaving with mine. Thanks for the know how and the encouragement I needed on how to use a straight razor with confidence. To date I've shaved 4 times with my Dovo, and just do a one pass and finish with a traditional three blade razor, as soon as I get more shave time, I'll be doing the three pass shave. Thanks for the time you put on your videos to teach and encourage novices like myself, you've done a great service to those of us who want to go traditional. God Bless...{['D=

Now I figured out my error....I try to shave everything off with the first cut. That results in an irritated skin allover because I keep scraping. Watching this video I tried the "3 steps" shave and voila....no tomatoeface.
Love the "easyness" the way you shave with such a sharp tool.

Thank you. I have never used a cut throat b4. So it took me about2 hours to get rid of thick growth. Then I switched to a safety razor. Today I used the 1st pass without cream to get the feel of the blade. So I am sticking with the 1st pass with it for now. I've found your video very helpful. I will do each pass in stages I think. Progressing as I get more comfortable.

    Geo,
Thanks for taking the time to produce these videos. Funny but sometimes it's the littlest things that catch you attention and make a difference in one's shave. The part about blowing air in the cheek as you go XTG made it easier to get that part of my face smooth.

Yet another great vid Geo. This is why you're the YT straight razor King! I see this was made a year and a half ago, I gather when you were still had a 15 minute time limit. New to this. Thanks! I'm extra sensitive about my upper lip since I was a professional french horn player. I was having trouble getting a close shave--especially near to my nose--with the standard 30-degree angle. I notice that you use a very short stroke at something like a 60-degree angle near the nose. I don't shave all my beard, I like to clean some areas and keep it in shape, but I appreciate the advice about how to hold the razor in different areas. I have some issues when the blade is on the neck, I fell the sharp like it hurting my neck. Furthermore, I'm going to try your technique later :3

Great video, I like your method. What is the reason you went to straight razor? I did because modern razors get so clogged with shaving cream it's ridiculous 😒

I did it because it's fun and challenging and requires skill and concentration. And-It's the best shave ever!

How much a razor like this will last? I want for a long time to buy one, and I wish a good one. But I am not sure about the invest on it, because I don't know how time will last.

I have a couple of Boker Waldorf razors and they're great razors, may consider buying an Eidelweiss as well . . .

You can go sideways on moustache area below nose. It s pretty easy and gives you baby smoothness on that area.

Dear geofatboy, you indeed has been an inspiration... I actually have tried shaving with straight razors but it seems I must have lot of practice before I get used to of it, I am trying to be careful but it really clogs a lot, anyways to get rig of clogging of straight razor on face?

    • @geofatboy
      @geofatboy  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Why is it clogging? Its just a flat blade. It rinses off easily!
      How's your water pressure?

@@geofatboy sorry I actually used a wrong word... Not a clogging but I could't afford to shave further down from my chick and due to less water I used the razor wasn't moving due to thick very thick leather... And I was bit afraid to shave any further by applying more pressure and just by keep going through! Will try next time properly

Good video. Hard to find some one who shows how to do it against the grain. I just started and can say that pulling the skin and shaving in the opposite direction from where you pulled is the key to a close shave and less skin irritation. I still think you need to go against the grain to get a baby smooth shave though. After shave really helps with the skin irritation as well (alcohol free).

So if I understand that video, there's no way to shave XTG in a left-to-right motion on the throat and under the chin? I was trying to do that earlier today (I use an injector straight razor for now) and couldn't figure it out. I ended up shaving upwards, which is ATG on my face.
P.S: Your videos are the best straight razor videos I've found so far! Thanks so much!

First off nice video. Secondly, on the ATG pass it looks like the blade is positioned at 90 degrees. Is that correct?
