    When I did the first common projects video • Cheap Posing as Premiu... people kept telling me there were fake versions that were just as good as the real deal for a fraction of the cost. So i bought a pair and cut them in half to see what the real difference is and if they are worth the buy.

    • @ChaosBW
      @ChaosBW 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      .... If you want a work shoe yeah..
      A metal shank is extremely uncomfortable for walking.
      Minimal shoes are best.
      A sock dipped in rubber is better than 99% of shoes on the market

      I don’t know much about shoes but it’s worth noting that sometimes you will have both brand name and no-name food items coming from the same factory. I can confirm that in SOME cases the brand name will use much higher quality ingredients. There are also differences in the production. So while it looks like they are all coming from the same factory there are still big differences. That said, I am sure there are also instances where the exact same item is sold at two different prices based on the difference in perceived quality.

    • @333dae
      @333dae 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      they don't, it's just marketing, some rep factories mastered certain models and basically reach retail quality but the "same factory" is pretty much a lie

    • @thegoldenflare3199
      @thegoldenflare3199 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      dozy boy the thing with LJR is that there are better batches out there but there isn’t nearly enough supply and the price is pretty high(around 1k yuan compared to LJR 550). LJR is just the best quality for the price and they produce enough for it to be sold constantly and not in cycles.

      "bootleg" makers don't need his help. half the time the "real" fakes are just the same exact item but unauthorized production. literally. if the order is for 1000 units, the guys will just make another 1000 on the side and sell them illicitly. Obviously not in this case, as it's an Italian shoe being knocked off in East Asia, but for many items thats exactly how it works.

    Would the larger grain also contribute to the ease of tearing, given how thin it is also?

    don't know if you've thought about it or tried to get a pair, but I think it would be cool for you to cut in half a pair of thursday boots. They are supposed to be one of the best under $200 pair of leather boots. The captains are their flagship but you could also do the presidents or chelsea's.
    Love the videos though.

    Adidas Tyshawn should be an interesting one. They are a skate shoe modeled after basketball shoes, and things that they market about them such as special shock absorption sock liners, "abrasion resistance" for the suede on the toe and the "adituff" rubber backing make for what might be an interesting construction that would be a cool teardown. there are some channels that do reviews and wear tests of skate shoes, but it's all experiential, and teardowns from someone who knows leather would be super cool.

    One thing I'd love to see but maybe a bit niche is a review on leather and composite leather basketballs. Only the top line balls are pure leather while the mid and lower spec levels are composite leather. I think the video could explain too what this means which may have some relevance to the shoe world and how you save money by compressing leather pieces together. Also balls have more stringent requirements in that they need to be tested for water resistance/handling as well as wear, especially if playing outside.
    All the reviews on balls are not by anyone that knows anything at all about leather so they can only talk about if it's slippery or "good" which doesn't mean a lot.
