i need to stop watching brz/frs videos. i said i'd buy something reliable and now 2 weeks into buying a new brz and ive already added 3k in mods to my 19k debit i have to pay off
Its so funny becaus the same happend to me. I bought an 2012 toyota gt86 and thought "wow this is plenty of power to me, im keeping it stock" and after 1,5 month im really just looking for a boost to the car and i really want to get an cat back exhaust, a wing and some body parts hahaha
Dude it looks like your catch can gets force fed boosted air from your intake manifold... Remember that all fitings that are attached to your intakemanifold sees the same airpressure that is inside the manifold itself aka the boost pressure your turbo creates. That means that the crank case pressure is not going to vent the way its supposed to and instead its letting the same boost you use to extract more power to slow down and potentially damage your engine. The catch is there to either vent the crank case pressure to atmosphere or back into the engine to combust in the turbo inlet.. It is also designed to collect any oil vapours that is generated by this pressure leaving the engine and from the roatating assembley inside the engine block/heads. The correct way would be to vent the catch can before the turbo in the turbo inlet pipe/hose to make the turbo help scavange the pressure and oil vapours out of the crank case inside the engine. The reason why so many oem's use a pcv system is to make the car easier to maintain for the customer by burning these vapours instead of collecting them in a can that the user of the car will have to remove and drain when it filles up. Its true that this will make the engine more likely to knock because oil cant physicaly compress and therefore will take up more space in the combustionchambre and this will lower the space the airfuel mixture has available and make the engine more likely to knock/detonate prematurely on the compression stroke.
I used to live in Tempe a few years ago and loved going to Scottsdale Pavs! That was back when I had my S4, now I have an FRS as well. I love it and never look back, funnest car I've ever owned, or driven. I also wanted to give you props on your theme and setup, super clean and from the videos seems like a really nice build you've got. I'd love to do a throwback to the Trueno, as I love Initial D. You should check out Wangan Midnight if you haven't, it will make you lust for an old Fairlady, if you don't already haha. Keep up the awesome videos Jonny, informative and entertaining, and for 86 owners like myself, applicable!
You just use a series of punches, you never use a drill on your oil pan. Once the hole is big enough for the a/n fitting you tap it with thick grease so the fileings stick to the grease. Then just use some tape dope and pipe dope screw it in and your all set. It's actually a lot easier than it sounds.
Okay minor quibble on this build. The "TRUENO" is used on the old ae86 to denote that it had the pop-up headlights. As no gt86/brz/frs have pop up headlights, the more correct name to put on this car would be "LEVIN" which denoted the molded style headlights on the old 86 corolla. Just saying. I know its homage to the anime, but still!
amazing videos like always. I've been here for along time and I'm so happy to see your channel is growing up. I really hope the best for you and keep it going cause for real your channel is one of the best I've seen in a while.
This is probably the best video I have seen for boosting a gt86. great job man! I think you should edit the video and throw a link in at the end to a video with some pulls. This gets me excited for my turbo to come in!
TH-cam will promote a channel or video based on likes in the first 24 hrs, you guys can help him get promoted by liking his videos as soon as he uploads, As a channel owner i prefer the comment interaction with my audience but unfortunately the system works on likes. Cheers.
Great video. You are very good at explaining. I want to turbo my frs. I remember when that car was on stock wheels and the widebody looked funny.. But i knew it would look great eventually. Your car is the best initial d frs
My block isn't built. I have a friend who tunes frs' for a living and consistently hits 400bhp with stock block and injectors. Anything past that requires a built block.
That is why I have a boost controller. No one would daily a 400bhp car on high boost. I have it set to low boost when daily driving the car then high boost for the track and for spirited driving.
All the forums says otherwise. 300ish is the limit. Cosworth reckon 280 to 290 max. Cosworth build F1 engines, so you might wanna trust them over TH-cam.
I just picked up my new 2015 BRZ low millage from a kid in Toronto stock for a great price, I know nothing about cars I'm 55 years old, how much will it cost for a new turbocharger kit for my new BRZ, I live in Toronto Canada will $ 2500 or more to do the complete job turn-key with new muffler system? thanks for your input.
Kits are usually a turn key solution. Price is dependent on Horsepower targets and quality of fabrication. Supporting mods are usually needed as an extra cost to make sure the car is reliable.
Just bought myself a 86 should I do cold air intake or exhaust first? If for intake which one is the best one for the 86 and for the exhaust which one is the best one?
The AIrRaid intake I had installed prior, adds a bit of hp without the check engine light coming on if that's something you're worried about. High quality too.
Can anybody help me? I'm looking for a good turbo kit for a stock FRS. I was looking into AVO stage 1, but I'm not too sure. Please anybody can lead me the right way!
lucky! I thought mine was already preclocked so I went ahead and installed it, had a ridiculous time trying to make the tubing fit from turbo to intercooler, ended up making it fit but not the right way, still worked out, now that I see your set up (we have the same kit) I see where I went wrong, yours is pointed down whereas mine is pointed to rear :( so I guess I'll be having fun taking it apart again! lol also the hose lines you spoke of under the intake manifold, does that REALLY have to be clamped? I didn't do and fullblown didn't mention it either, are you positive it has to be clamped? There's a lot to take apart to get to that area..
I bought my kit Second hand and local, but it is essentially fullblownmotorsports.com/full-blown-scion-frs-stage-1-premium-turbo-kit Any part not listed there was custom made and will have to be fabricated.
A kit generally includes all parts needed for a boosted application install. Parts like the boost controller, or exhaust pieces aren't generally included with many turbo kits.
I got mine used, but you can use orjdlautodesign.net/shop/ft86-single-scroll-turbo-kit/ or fullblownmotorsports.com/shopmake/scion/f-rs/turbo-kits-components
It works, pretty good for the price, Have a couple friends who have the kit. Check out @azfrs86. I recommend the fullblown or JDL kit after lots of research.

Chris Castrejon These cars love boost, even a turbo'd car would need a turbo kit if you want more power since the stock turbo will limit, just like my Evo X needed a bigger turbo. I built the car to be a fun track car and be able to drift it as well. Im not really into drag racing but it would be cool to get a 1/4 time.

I know! Itsuki's Levin just doesn't cut it. :D
I’ve watched about every video on this and yours seems to be the best thought out. really high quality content here, thanks for the extra effort.

Pretty straight forward, great quality video. Nice presentation.

Last year at the time you where making this I was doing my own FBM install. It would have been so nice to have this recommended THEN haha.

yup
This channel is great. Has great content. I wonder why TH-cam is not promoting this channel?
I don't know either.

good channel , you have great tools and a nice car lift , and a badass car dude.
Thanks
Congratulations man !
Great job dude keep up the videos you've been doing great at it 👌🏼
Where did you get all of this knowledge? You know how to do everything!
Dad has always owned a shop, and my play area was a garage. I have always been surrounded by cars for as long I can remember.
Did you build your engine? I'm asking since I've seen some FRS engines blown up because of too much boost. The engine internals are not really strong
RickkertJonge I mean that's for any engine with enough boost anything will blow
My block isn't built. I have a friend who tunes frs' for a living and consistently hits 400bhp with stock block and injectors. Anything past that requires a built block.
So you're saying you can daily an FRS with a max of 400bhp without any issues on a stock engine on the long run?
That is why I have a boost controller. No one would daily a 400bhp car on high boost. I have it set to low boost when daily driving the car then high boost for the track and for spirited driving.
All the forums says otherwise.
300ish is the limit. Cosworth reckon 280 to 290 max. Cosworth build F1 engines, so you might wanna trust them over TH-cam.
What type of camera are u using on this video if u don't mind me asking, thanks
Canon 70d and stock kit lens, nothing fancy.
Why’s this mans hair so perfect and don’t you need like injectors and fuel pump to also run turbo efficiently
0-60 test again!
low key I forgot you had the frs but it's sick af now
Preaciate it bro u made these so easy to understand
Nice channel bro, subbed :)
Thanks

Dude great video! Subbed
How much did you spend in total?
yeh nice hot air intake mate
Great video this guy is knowledgeable as fuck.
Hello from Phoenix Arizona!
Great job. I was planning to that on my BRZ. Thank you.
Which type of clamps did you use for the lines under the intake manifold? Looks like 1/2" band clamps
Just bought myself a 86 should I do cold air intake or exhaust first? If for intake which one is the best one for the 86 and for the exhaust which one is the best one?
The AIrRaid intake I had installed prior, adds a bit of hp without the check engine light coming on if that's something you're worried about. High quality too.
do you need to have a gauge ?
"You're gonna wanna" -Jonny B.
Hey Jonny, can you tell where where to get that beautiful strut bar??
Ground control no longer sell this strutbar, I got it used from a show car.
groundcontrolstore.com/collections/frs-brz
@@JonnyBarajas Dang :/ well thank you anyway!
When replacing the fuel injectors, there are 8 total, so does that mean all 8 injectors need to be replaced?
Only port injectors are replaced.
Best install video

Can anybody help me? I'm looking for a good turbo kit for a stock FRS. I was looking into AVO stage 1, but I'm not too sure. Please anybody can lead me the right way!
The rhe sbd kit is the cheapest option that That I can personally recommend. Fullblown Motorsport and JDL make the best turbo kits for the frs by far.
I would put heat protection on that oil line.
Where can I get a modified oil pan like that? Anywhere that sells one online?
hey pal! did u remove the engine from the car in order to fit turbo? thanks
You don't need to remove the engine.
Did you have to clock your turbo?
Bryan R what do you mean
I didn't have to clock it. The kit was already mounted on to an frs prior to my install as it was used.
The boost blew my hose lines off and needed to be clamped to stop then from disconnected for me. Your right, it is a pain to remove.
What about the Cosworth kit?
Haven't looked into that kit much.
Thanks bro for cool shearing
Is it possible to get dimensions, part names and all that listed. Just to make it easier for those interested. (Me)
I bought my kit Second hand and local, but it is essentially fullblownmotorsports.com/full-blown-scion-frs-stage-1-premium-turbo-kit Any part not listed there was custom made and will have to be fabricated.
What size turbo? We have almost the same kit, down to the ground control strut bar.
I had a Garret GT 76 trim turbo previously, I installed a new turbo recently. The video is up on the channel.
Can I get a beams engine in the USA LIKE CAL I WOULDlike to put in my 86 sr5 extracab truck the 22re is weak can u give me some info please thank you
Loud pops and maybe some flames. Thats the goal.
where does the vakuum for your brake booster come from?
and that is way I am keeping my BRZ stock!
Hey, how has this worked out so far as a daily? Any major issues?
After the tune, haven't had any single issue with the engine or turbo.
Is the transmission stock?
yes, auto trans can handle the power.
What was the cost of this turbo build?
I got a used kit.
how did you break one of the axles? are the stock axles not rated to handle ~300hp?
Im currently at 500whp, the tend to break with the strain of a lowered car's geometry. Currently using Driveshaft shop axles.
I want a brz but can i drop this turbo straight off the lot or do i need upgrades if so what do i need?
Ik this might not be answered but what type of turbo kit is that
Full Blown turbo kit is what I had at the time.
@@JonnyBarajas I did some searching in your videos and you said it was a Garret Gtx2867R kit is that right? (also thank you for replying!)
@@mstsniperg5958 This one, no, its a GT 57 trim.
What do you all think about the Greddy turbo kits?
What kit is this or did you pick the parts out
This is the Full Blown Turbo kit for the Frs/Brz
Do you need to add a little bit extra oil because of the turbo
I add an additional quart, due to the oil cooler and the turbo.
What turbo kit are you using?
At this time, I had the Full Blown turbo kit. I now have the JDL kit. Check out my instagram
fuck yes I just scooped a used fullblown kit, thank you so much for this!
Does it com with everything you need? Or do you have to buy parts for the turbo
A kit generally includes all parts needed for a boosted application install. Parts like the boost controller, or exhaust pieces aren't generally included with many turbo kits.
Jonny The Car Doctor can I have a link to we’re you got your turbo?
I had the Fullblown motorsports turbo kit. I personally sourced mine used and locally.
Do it need internal works when tuning it to 20psi?
What are your header torque specs
Where do I get a turbo kit ? Any websites you recommend ?
I got mine used, but you can use orjdlautodesign.net/shop/ft86-single-scroll-turbo-kit/ or fullblownmotorsports.com/shopmake/scion/f-rs/turbo-kits-components

can u recommend a turbo kit ? i was thinking of rhe sbd kit
It works, pretty good for the price, Have a couple friends who have the kit. Check out @azfrs86. I recommend the fullblown or JDL kit after lots of research.
Jonny The Car Doctor thank you
First thing to do is get rid of the turbo and get a supercharger that way the car is still fun
Do you install turbo kits? How much do you charge to do so?
I do if you're in AZ. Hit me up @initialized_frs usually $600-800 depending on the kit and car.
This was a cool video and I learned a lot but I would never do this myself. I'd have a shop do it
What turbo kit was this?
Full Blown turbo kit.
It appears you have installed a 200 degree heater in front of your intercooler (the oil cooler). That will definitely have a negative affect on you intake air temperature.
question: why did you buy the gt-86 and not the brz
I had the opportunity to buy this one real cheap at the time.
@@JonnyBarajas makes sense
Okay I have to know where you got that bumper from
Front and rear bumpers are stock frs.
What's the name of the kit? You have a Garrett turbo

FullBlown Motorsports Makes this turbo kit.
Jonny The Car Doctor how much was the whole kit with all the extra necessary stuff needed if you don't mind me asking
I got mine used.
Does Full Blown make a header with the bypass plumbed to the exhaust?
Albert Fletcher If you buy the kit from FullBlown I believe they ship a header with the kit, don't know if the header includes the bypass however
About to buy a Brz. I am not smart financially lol
