    I think some people forget the true nature of the gt86. It's like a blank piece of paper and the owner can create their masterpiece and express their vision through this car. So many directions and limitless possibilities.

    The very first car I that I bought at age 20 was a '96 NA Mazda MX-5 (Miata) with the 133bhp 1.8L engine. Stock as a rock, except for some good Pirelli tyres.
    It gave me four years of driving everywhere right on the speed limit, regardless of road conditions or weather. Four years of cheeky late-night slow speed oversteer around the backstreets. Four years of top-down summer cruising with my GF in the passenger seat, loving life. I never felt like I was at serious risk of breaking the car or hurting myself/somebody else by overcooking it, had a great time, and I never got a single speeding fine. A mildly worked-over BRZ seems like a perfect spiritual successor to my beloved Mazda. You don't need heaps of power to put a huge grin on your face.

    • @yo_its_devo
      @yo_its_devo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You see, I thought the same thing before I sold my 2001 Miata for a 2018 BRZ. I never felt like I was missing anything with my Miata. Every moment behind the wheel was a blast. The BRZ just doesn't have that same magic. Mazda found an unmatchable formula. No one can even put it into words, Miatas are just fun lol. So with that in mind, people often feel like something is missing with the BRZ and the first glaring hole is in the power. Just my feeling after making that switch.

    • @Talynen
      @Talynen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@yo_its_devo I would love to see more 86 owners push for weight reduction first before adding power - lightweight wheels, battery and seats, pull the rear seats that no one sits in, etc.
      Yes it would make them less comfortable but I think that's part of the Miata magic - you're not isolated from road noise or wind noise and it's harder to go from point a to point b without thinking about it. Plus weight reduction would add to the fun factor without making the speeding tickets more expensive.

    Affordable rwd manual cars that you can mod until your hearts content that aren't all electronic bs and handle good with just enough power to be fun is a great platform to build from.

It would be more honest to say you cant afford horsepower than to say it is part of some plan of the engineers to deny this horsepower purposely. Trust me, those engineers begged for every single HP they could get from the accountants at Toyota and Subaru.

      Where are you driving that has minivan drivers willing to speed that hard with kids in the back? It'd be a dream come true if all the minivan drivers over here are that fast, cuz over here they're going the 2nd slowest right after the semi-trucks. You can literally overtake them with a plain RAV4 without even breaking traffic laws in everyday driving (I do it all the time). In everyday driving, you'll almost never encounter drivers willing to push their vehicles at speeds where power or tuning really matters.

    • @Bookiemouncher
      @Bookiemouncher 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We top out faster than v6 chargers mustangs ect, you've obviously never raced on a freeway, I just drove 10 hours to Arizona from California and I beat most cars because top speed, it's not all 0-60 times obviously an American muscle will take you at a stop sign but not in the long run. A v8 even won't in California because belts, the belts in Japanese cars top out higher because kmh only by like 10 mph tho lmao

    This is why we give big thanks to companies like vortec for creating superchargers specifically made for the fa20 that can be ran on stock internals and can also have supporting mods and pushed even further, a car like the brz/86 with mid 300hp is a scary power/weight ratio.

      @@waykool698 I hate to say this, but the "Tuned by STi" version didn't produce any additional horsepower. All that was "tuned" was the aero package, the handling characteristics, and some STi badging. Oh, and some parts come standard that were options on the lower trim level (sachs dampers, etc). Not worth the extra 5-7k IMO.

    this made me rethink about my car, I own an 08 v6 mustang and just like the 86 line it does not make near enough power, 210hp/240tq I understand the want for more power, granted since it is a v6 and a higher displacement motor there is a tiny bit of flexibility to add some more power but not much, yes part of the fun is not having all the power of a built car and being able to push your car and hear the engine and exhaust scream, hate on me or my car doesn't matter, real car enthusiasts respect and appreciate all cars

    I have a 2015 sti that's pushing a little under 400 hp. I'm about to buy a brz cause it's a subie and it's a rwd car. I love my sti it's my daily but it's missing the fun factor a rwd has. It's a love hate relationship with how the car is so composed in turns. I need some "oh shit I'm skidding sideways" in my life.

    my guess is that, given the hindsight of this video being 3 years old, they didn't want to sell supercharged or turbo versions because they knew they were going to bring the supra back and the boosted brz makes almost as much power as the new supra at half the price. i've always thought this car looked more like a supra than the actual new supra.

    They say that it would ruin the weight and driveability of the vehicle, but it makes sense that it is a mod car OR a purist car. It's got the sensation of being like the Z4, the ol' 240SX or even 240Z, the car is meant to be a young persons driving experience with modability in mind. I think actually Scion tried this with the tC where they were like "Oh dude bro, LEDs and sound system, this is a young persons vehicle!"
