This show explains exactly why I prefer the stock BRZ as a daily commuter. At 05:42 it's explained that with the upgrades the car is usually driven at 20 percent where the stock version can be enjoyed at 100. I would rather have fun at my HP limit and swing around the chassis and stay alive than try to have the same driver involvement and end up dead in a fireball of metal or locked up in jail. Better to feel fast and have fun than be fast and be in handcuffs,

This car would absolutely decimate a GT500 in a race on a track. Sure, the GT500 would probably be more reliable, but if reliable is what you're going for, you're not going to be cranking boost in a 2-liter engine.
As an older guy I don’t like small noisy 4 cylinder cars any more but this appeals to the lost boy i left behind. I even like the noise this thing makes.
Do you guys tune Mazdas? I have a 2011 Camaro LS(V6) stock and the other day I got smoked by a Mazdaspeed3 hatchback. I couldn't catch up to it. It was definitely turbo'd. It was also lowered, had aftermarket wheels, and a gauge pod. Anyways, it was fast, nigh uncatchable Lol. Awesome job on that Turbo BRZ engine. It sounds great. That's a sign that it's well tuned. Have a nice day!

I still come back to watch this video from time to time because I wanted one so bad. Now I drive a newer mustang but I still wouldn't mind having this little car lol
Def should get one, I’ve driven my cousins 5.0 mustang and own a FRS and tbh I have way more fun going 10/10 in the FRS vs the stang. Also the FRS is great in the snow, just took it out in 4-5 inches snow/freezing rain mix and the car was fine
This car has seen the race track 16 times Ian, It has great balance! That said, the throttle petal is your friend and if you get to greedy then you will break traction. As for endurance racing... not with this car. Its a daily driver and as such does not have the cooling necessary for an endurance race car.
I hear so many people criticize this car for it's less-than-impressive power from the factory as if it's something that can't be remedied. the stock 200hp, sharp precise handling, rear wheel drive, good weight distribution, and of course it's beautiful styling, collectively make this car a perfect platform for a project car. In my honest opinion it's one of the most attractive compact sports cars in the last a decade or so. The last couple years especially have seen an awkward departures in sporty design language. 2010s generally brought some awkward shifts in styling from clean and sleek to bulky and "experimental"
i have a feeling this will be like the Supra's and R34 skylines of this new generation of cars.. People wanted some sporty car that is light and fast, and they got it... Yes out of the box its nothing crazy fast, but they can sure handle much better than tons of other cars. Add some wider, summer performance tires, turbo and a couple other mods and this will hang right there or even surpass any of the Supra, R34's, 300zx, or any other major tuner car of the 90s. lol those cars needed motorwork/suspenion work to be faster on the track too.
i agree, but on the other hand you cannot compare this car to the r34 or supra or z32 for the simple reason of price point, class' and power output all these cars where well above 30k and all came with turbo, and had 275-300hp
but stock for stock look at the numbers, they both werent even fast.. yes it wont put up the same numbers/drag racing time modded but this car can handle much better and well with 400hp that thing is wicked fast for track use
You're all stupid if you agree with that at all because this car can't compare to a supra or an r34 or anything of that car class unless you do a 2jz swap an sti swap or an ls1 swap or any engine that goes in those cars because the peak range horsepower is about a third of what you could make off of any of those cars you mentioned
keyword, its "LIKE" those cars of the 90s.. and im not just talking about the HP potential, that is the last thing im comparing... I'm talking about the joy of driving these cars and their track potential/mtn road blasting ability (Not high HP cars that only do drag racing). You take these BRZ/FRS cars, and turn them into fast, super great handling cars. Making the most power isnt the only deciding factor.. These cars have a better power to weight ratio than the Supra. LOL besides most people cant even truly handle a car with 4-500hp, so those saying this car isnt good enough need to actually drive real roads/tracks for once, not just drag race down the highway .
For the low price of {Redacted} and years of knowledge and experience, you too can have a 450 HP BRZ/FRS. Amazing build, can't under appreciate the lengths you guys went to building it.
Crawford Perf hey man beside the turbo kit what else needs to be tuned and changed? clutch , internals etc? please list them and parts you recommend please
Well I am sold. I been trying to decide whether to get the 2015/16 WRX, or a BRZ. I really wanted something that does 0-60 in less than 6, so I was avoiding the BRZ, but I am sure with some quick easy mods that can be reached!
@@egokenny sorry I missed this reply. Still runs, it's boosted now for 2+ years. Wrecked it once (don't but cheap tires) and it's back to normal and still up and running. Still love it! Would still but it again and recommend.
The most balanced car I've ever driven, if you're into drag racing this is not you. If you're into spirited canyon run then this IS IT. It's really like it's predecessor in Initial D. I'm going to bump my power up to 270-300 whp on 93cotane so as not to throw off the balance while making her a little more aggressive. I'm going with the JDL kit with GT2860rs, EL headers with recirculating dump, 3bar map sensor, catch can & an oil cooler & that's it.
This is my favorite sports car ive ever owned. My FRS is fast stock but where this car shines is its handling. I scare the crap out of anyone who dares to ride with me on curvy mountain roads. Cant wait to do the upgrades. Very pleased with this car.
i dont how people can complain a new car that puts out 200hp and is under 30,000 is under powered. youre good power for a low ass price for a brand new car.
With Pontiac gone you have a point, but the G6 used to be marketed using almost precisely the language you just did. Of course, it being a Pontiac, it could not turn for shit :P
on the other hand i built a 380hp car for only $7,000. only catch, it wasn't new. it just depends on your priority. i don't desire new, just like fast. most true car enthusiasts will choose the latter over the former.
I immediately saw it's potential. It's really kind of a perfect platform for a project car. 200hp stock isn't a bad start, combined with it's RWD, light weight, sharp handling, efficient weight distribution, accessable/user friendly engine bay, an aftermarket that is bound to expand exponentially, and of course it's beautiful styling. Anyone who says this is an ugly car is either lying, jealous, biased strongly towards classic muscle cars, has an irrational aversion to sporty compact imports thanks to the Fast and Furious inspired "ricer" trends of the late 90s-2000s, or simply lacks a sense of style. Average or just slightly above average power shouldn't be a problem for anyone with the resources and will to wrench out their own power gains. Tuner car of the decade right here.
I think its supposed to be 59.5, and it's missing the decimal point either that or it is out of whack because he doesnt appear to be driving at 560 mph lol
They probably edited the speed so that they could avoid any pending criminal prosecution for being over the speed limit. Exterior shots could easily be used to identify the area he was driving in and other interior shots (of which I think there was 1) where you can see the speedometer its showing in the 40's. That's the 1st thing I thought when I watched anyways.
I was searching, but it would have to be a joke, not hiding speed from cops. There is an unedited analog dial speedo to the left. So ill take it as a bad '500 mph' gag edit, good enough for me :p
I'm going to go ahead and confirm that Quirt Crawford is the king! Hands down! I was very lucky to ride with Quirt in the Crawford BRZ the other day and I can honestly say I've never been so impressed with a frs/BRZ, his driving!!, and the company Crawford..... These guys are at the top of their game and have definitely set the bar. Quirts history with tunning cars goes wayy back, and it really shows when you get behind the wheel of a car he's tuned. If you want a very reliable, powerful car with the the best ( in my opinion) tunning available....Crawford ...Crawford....CRAWFORD!!! The Crawford BRZ left me Breathless.... But still remains a very drivable daily driver. Don't be fooled by the videos, go for a test drive with Quirt and you'll see disposable power is not a bad thing, especially with the amazing traction control systems on these BRZ/FRS! Thank you Quirt for all the time you've spent running countless dyno runs to perfect this FRS/BRZ!!
Crawford Perf you are awesome. I would love to talk to you as my make a wish but I used mine already. I know I'm just a kid but I wanted an fr-s as a dream car. Seeing you guys do this is awesome. God bless you. My email is dynacharge111@gmail.com. you are awesome Mr. Crawford.
Scott Brixey I don't know about that. Nissan's rumored to be working on a turbo 4 version of the Z for the next generation. Nissan might be taking the competition to Subaru / Toyota instead of the other way around.
Riparay121 To be fair, the GT-R is sort of like a turbo charged Z. It uses a derivitive of the VQ37VHR w/.100cc more displacement. If Subaru actually manufactured something like this officially, they would sell it as a completely different model.
I put the SBD 500x Turbo Kit in my BRZ and luv it. I got an extra 125HP out of it which is plenty for me. I can’t Imagine 450 or 500 HP in a BRZ. Must take off like a Friggn Jet. Bad Ass !!!!
"Amazing what you can do with 2 liters and boost..." I said the same thing when I bought a Talon TSi in 1990. I can't wait to pick up one of these and start tuning again.
Living up north where it's deep snow season for four months a year and met a guy that had an FRS. I wanted to know how he could drive a FR sports car in a hill and snow covered place. He had 500lbs of sand in the trunk.
In NY we had tons of snow this year, and I see tons of FRSs and BRZs. It is actually very simple. When it snows you either hide your car, or just keep it in parking, because when the snow freezes here, street cleaning is off, and a 200hp RWD will not get out of such thick ice, no matter how hard it tries. The only bad thing is the rust. I can't imagine a BRZ freezing 1-2 months in ice and not degrading mechanically.
i live in canada and daily my frs i drove it last winter around and the only time i got stuck was on an icy street that i parked on and the street sloped down to the curb a little and i didnt run any extra weight, good winter tires and knowing how to drive in winter you can drive anything and its crazy fun in the snow drifting and sliding around haha
phenomenalpnut I also live in Canada and drove my FRS through some pretty shitty weather conditions with winter tires. I'm talking icy as fuck blazing snow roads. It actually wasn't bad whatsoever; there were times where I'd have to go up really slow on a road but outside of that it worked fine. You can surprisingly drive this car in the winter - I didn't even have studded tires. This winter I'll probably throw studs on. I had a blast drifting this car around in open snow parking lots. You can make this a snow car easily
I live in Quebec up in Canada we get a lot of snow. With proper winter tires you can drive pretty much any car in snow. Using sand is not good because it causes longer stops due to all the extra weight (also it can break parts on your car and put extra wear). Put studded tires on and you're laughing.
Might have more power/power to weight than whatever much higher priced sports cars, but the rear tires are a lot smaller than on said sports cars. Good luck putting all the power down from a standstill.
Yeah I don't think these guys understand that I wasn't asking if you can put different/bigger/wider rims on a car. I mean, 9 out of 10 86's/BRZ's will have their wheels changed out for wider/bigger/lighter rims. Just because a car comes out with skinny wheels doesn't mean it can't have bigger ones put on. My KE70 corolla came out with 5"x13" rims and now has 8.5"x15" wheels.
We raced this car in the Redline Time Attack again this weekend which was held at Buttonwillow Raceway. It was just a practice day for us and part of the ongoing R/D we do for our packages.
Not a fan of this car because its becoming as common as the civic where I live. Most people that have em here in Seattle either keep them stock or rice them out.
u can't compare this to a civic... one it looks a lot nicer than a civic, second its rwd which makes it alot more of fun to drive. (its a drivers car not a muscle car) Have u driven one?
ask yourself why you wouldn't want a better boxer engine compared to the WRX? its the technology you're paying for, and as the video shows, it clearly pays off well. stop bashing the 200hp when you can double that on the same block without breaking a sweat... brz, no question, but I wouldn't buy it without some extra $ on top to ensure I can shutdown all the fan boys with the same shitty looking WRX's... smh but its true, thumbs up for the vid
Absolutely love /Drive Channel // Smoking Tire!! Awesome real world reviews and Matt always displays a high level of enthusiasm that is honest and genuine. That kind of energy is what makes the show feel so alive and a pleasure to watch! Makes me feel like im along for the ride right there with him! Keep up the great work guys!!! ^__^ Also hearing how the new FA20 is considerably stronger than the EJ from the highly reputable Mr. Crawford himself def boosts my decision on picking up a BRZ.
so im new to this, but is this designed to be mounted to the stock engine or do you have to upgrade the stock engine so it can handle the changes? hope that made sense.
+BruceWillis This particular +300hp kit needs to have the rods and pistons upgraded to handle that much extra power but we also have a +100 kit that works with all the stock components on the car. This +100 kit can be fully upgraded to the +300 kit without throwing anything away.
So far we have sold this kit to Dubai, Indonesia and Turkey so Poland should be fine. We sell the complete turbo kit as well as many upgrades, please give us a call or send an email to sales@crawfordperformance com
On the contrary this car is an amazing machine regardless, it is that same fact everyone has their on perspective on their ideal vehicle. I for one would like to see a Brz/Fr-s that makes around 650hp, Have always been a fan of the Brz/Fr-s. and Hey we all love cars and thats where we all agree on.
We need Matt to do a follow up video with the new motor package in this car! We ran it on the dyno yesterday and it made 600hp.

The v6 mustang puts out 300 HP and starts at 22k.. The 4 cyl turbo does too, and that can be tuned to 100 ft/lbs of torque more.
youcare aboutthis tuned with what?
youcare aboutthis well the v6 mustang sucks
on the other hand i built a 380hp car for only $7,000. only catch, it wasn't new. it just depends on your priority. i don't desire new, just like fast. most true car enthusiasts will choose the latter over the former.
Shit, I used to be close minded about this car, but I think this video made me want a BRZ lol.
+Devonte Murray you got to try one out... they are so fun to drive even with 200bhp
totony335 I have recently got into liking the new 2016 Camaro SS and 2016 Mustang GT. I also always loved the Nissan Z cars, so I like the 370Z.
Conscious Robot agreed
Conscious Robot damn I wish I had your knowledge
Makes me so happy when I look up a car and Matt's already driven it! Like a seal of approval lol.
Holy boost, Batman! That car is a beast.
at 6:30 they edited the MPH to be 500+
I think its supposed to be 59.5, and it's missing the decimal point either that or it is out of whack because he doesnt appear to be driving at 560 mph lol
I want this car, I've been in and looked at many cars over the years, but this car makes me smile every time and a joy to look at :-) awesome!!
People still hate on these cars🤣
Some car owners should just learn that this car is amazing
The things I would do for this car...
Eric Pettersen work and save ?
Jesse Hernandez yes exactly that
I'm going to go ahead and confirm that Quirt Crawford is the king!
Thanks for the kind words Mr. Guzak :)
Crawford.
:) Thanks Dyanyses
Thank you sir.
matt farah reviewing cars is pure awesomeness , i mean c'mon !
Matt is the man!!
Crawford Perf
are you guys responsible for that BRZ?
Correct, it is our shop car.
Crawford Perf what are the weak points of this engine under boost? my goal is 320-350whp/wtq
Crawford Perf
Cheers for the great set-up
Subaru should really make the brz perform like this, so as to compete with 370z and others
Others are V6 and V8's, making that much power in a 4 cylinder would boost you way past the price tag of "competitors"
Scott Brixey I don't know about that. Nissan's rumored to be working on a turbo 4 version of the Z for the next generation. Nissan might be taking the competition to Subaru / Toyota instead of the other way around.
If Subaru made their BRZ perform like the one in the video then forget about 370Z's lol, this thing would leave the
Riparay121 To be fair, the GT-R is sort of like a turbo charged Z. It uses a derivitive of the VQ37VHR w/.100cc more displacement. If Subaru actually manufactured something like this officially, they would sell it as a completely different model.
MrGencyExit64 the only similarity between the two is a similar engine, how can you say they're sort of the same thing?
Definitely one of the best sounding BRZ out there. If not, the best. At least in my preference.
The kit is 14k and the labor is 6k
Are you serious man and how did you know about it?
I talked to a sales rep
Better start building those Credit Lines Y'all, I know I am LMAO
Labor psssst I don’t pay for labor.
@@5tarstriker78. so you do it yor self
and for just 20 grand plus the cost of your BRZ, this could be you
honestly, I'd pay 33-35k for a giant slayer.
you can buy a used one
And it comes with rear seats.
Facts dont spend on the body kit fckin ricers
Honestly, this thing prob drives like a porsche, so for around 40k, not the worst. Esp since it has back seats and more power than a NISMO
I put the SBD 500x Turbo Kit in my BRZ and luv it.
I got an extra 125HP out of it which is plenty for me.
I can’t Imagine 450 or 500 HP in a BRZ. Must take off like a Friggn Jet.
Bad Ass !!!!
08:20 best reaction ever!
Oh my god I want it. Sounds so dirty
I like how the speedometer says he's going 500+ mph , really nice build : )
8:23 priceless reaction !!!!!!
the sound it makes, mmm delicious
+Brandon Barber Thanks!!
"Amazing what you can do with 2 liters and boost..." I said the same thing when I bought a Talon TSi in 1990. I can't wait to pick up one of these and start tuning again.
Do it! life is short
Those eyebrows doe! Majestic as fuck...Crawford invest in a trimmer, then turbo it!
I'm glad the heart of brz beats in my 2016 wrx
+Russell Siete The motor in your WRX is by far the best motor Subaru has ever offered!
+Crawford Perf where can follow this build?
Jose Diaz take it to Crawford.
Jose Diaz On our Instagram or FB page :)
Crawford Perf what your Instagram?
Absolutely beautiful car. Nice presentation of this car. Brilliant video. Keep on doing this!
Thanks!
Sounds like its just on an older set of spark plugs which is why it isn't breaking up in first gear (low load). Nothing to worry about.
SquatDeadPress Any car?i m from Montreal and there is no driving a corvette in the snow i can tell you that .
Listen @ 3:50, what a beautiful sound! It has the deep sound of the unequal length headers on WRX's but still the tuned inline 4 sound!
450hp, ok kinda above expectations, 300 would be around right, change the prius tyres too
***** Turning the boost / power down is very easy!
***** there are PLENTY of kits that do exactly this.
Crawford Perf Where can I buy the parts at in order to build my Subaru like this one?
You can purchase each part from Crawford Performance.
Im just saying its a serious bit of kit.
this gives me the chills
Holy crow!
Can't believe how easy I go nuts for this beast...LOVE It.
8:25 "Holy Shit" ::pulls another gear @ WOT:: ... my kind of car guy.
Matt IS the real deal....
Fr
That moment when he actually opens it up after he gets used to the car is AWESOME! @7:48
Very cool....
I would love to know the total cost of this setup???
Might have more power/power to weight than whatever much higher priced sports cars, but the rear tires are a lot smaller than on said sports cars. Good luck putting all the power down from a standstill.
From a standstill?? Third gear at 50mph can be a handful as well! But with the traction control on it is quite tame.
So you can't put different wheels and tyres on a car???
Yea, this car was not born with these large tires / wheels.
Blinky Bill where I live It's illegal.
Holy shit... A brz pushing 200+ and it looks... stock! I’m in love.
where can you buy this engine... If the brz came with this than it would be sold to me.
You can buy it from Crawford Performance.
Subaru: "This car doesn't need any more power"
Everyone else: "Dear Internet what is the best FI kit to put on my BRZ?"
We raced this car in the Redline Time Attack again this weekend which was held at Buttonwillow Raceway. It was just a practice day for us and part of the ongoing R/D we do for our packages.
sounds just amazing
Not a fan of this car because its becoming as common as the civic where I live. Most people that have em here in Seattle either keep them stock or rice them out.
most people eat food or they don't
u can't compare this to a civic...
one it looks a lot nicer than a civic, second its rwd which makes it alot more of fun to drive. (its a drivers car not a muscle car)
Have u driven one?
pretty much an understatement car. I like that! If I could afford one, I'd instantly buy that one
ask yourself why you wouldn't want a better boxer engine compared to the WRX? its the technology you're paying for, and as the video shows, it clearly pays off well. stop bashing the 200hp when you can double that on the same block without breaking a sweat... brz, no question, but I wouldn't buy it without some extra $ on top to ensure I can shutdown all the fan boys with the same shitty looking WRX's... smh but its true, thumbs up for the vid
SOUNDS AMAZING
Absolutely love /Drive Channel // Smoking Tire!!
Awesome real world reviews and Matt always displays a high level of enthusiasm that is honest and genuine. That kind of energy is what makes the show feel so alive and a pleasure to watch! Makes me feel like im along for the ride right there with him!
Keep up the great work guys!!! ^__^
Also hearing how the new FA20 is considerably stronger than the EJ from the highly reputable Mr.
Crawford Perf Thank you for answering my question. That helped alot.
Crawford Perf will this work with the automatic transmission?
You are welcome. There is nothing on our kit that interferes with the auto trans Bruce.
Crawford Perf thank you very much. you have been very helpful
i love the intro song to this, what is it?
Darude - sandstorm
suddenly i fell in love with the brzs
I have a 2016 BRZ and I can't imagine it at 450 horses holy shit, I can't even imagine it at 300.
Let me help you then.... how about getting sideways on the freeway at 70mph from wheel spin :D
It's a rocketship! :D
I wish I could drive cars like these
eye of skadi :3
Oh man this is awesome, Crawford performance you guys are amazing at what you do!
what s the soundtrack from the beginning
So far we have sold this kit to Dubai, Indonesia and Turkey so Poland should be fine. We sell the complete turbo kit as well as many upgrades, please give us a call or send an email to sales@crawfordperformance com
Ok, this car has some potential man! I'm impressed.
Maybe one of the Best Street Build Subaru BRZ
Thanks :)
man forget the hp. that 500 torque shit bish fucking crazy lol. probably gonna be one of the best motor for the next few years.
Sounds amzing
This is my goal
It sounds awesome. Like a completely different engine.
Them eyebrows have some horse power
6:31 what's with the crappy editing ?
