Leo, I love how comprehensive you are with your reviews. Very informative and to the point! Could I make a suggestion? Is it possible for you to incorporate a input latency test for each future pedal review as "standard"? IE: Intro - Demo - Detailed Description - Latency test - More sounds - My 2 cents For me, this would be super helpful as info like this matters to me. Hopefully others as well. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks for a wonderful review Leo, very much appreciated. This is a very interesting product and I'll be watching it for updates. It reminds me very much of what I hoped the old Logidy EPSi would become. Hope this is a success and gets many updates.
Thank you for pointing it out! Here I have applied some interesting technique to the animation...new ones...I mean....And I have others yet to come...😀
First Great song and playing!!! Second amazing device!!! Maybe to couple with my tonex world (even if the price is not challenging) !!! Thanks for sharing !
At this price I much prefer a ToneX one pedal :) Null testing is making this device less enjoyable than NAM orginal capture and it doesn’t have the ease of use of ToneX and ToneX plugin ecosystem… BTW the pedal is sexy because a lot smaller than NAM player pedal and less expensive, so we could dream of a more powerful unit capable of supporting natively standard NAM models
Theres always gives and takes, this since is what could sell it for me, and the fact it has MIDI in and out! The Tonex One does NOT have MIDI in and out. That is a bummer for me. If I wanna have automated live guitar patch changes with my band, Tonex One is out the window. But this can work, and I think we can get a bit too picky with the accuracy at this point, even the Kemper who has lost the accuracy battle objectively, still sounds great live and nobody would demand their concert ticket price back because somebody was not using the original NAM software live. Hell, people can even play older Digitech stuff live and peopole are happy (I do use a GSP1101 live sometimes :D haha)
Interesting unit! The double inputs would be amazing if you could have two different sounds per path. My ideal rig is to have something like this for 2 guitarists, with midi automation indiependent per input/output for different sounds (using Cymatic Liveplayer MIDI). For the price you could even buy two of these and have a cheap backup if anything fails and keep going. Really hope this adds delay, since I found that sometimes more useful for solos than reverb only.
Nevermind, I checked their homepage, and the "Input 2" is just an Aux input, it does not work with any separate profiles or IRs or effects, but I am still gonna contact the company about this because they are so close to making the perfect unit I dreamt about for years xD
Thank you for sharing! I know that the unit has also to be considered as an hardware platform that can change with different software and fw: for instance it can become a stereo delay or a stereo reverb, etc. Therefore what you have in mind could be actually in some future updates. Thank you!
@@LeoGibsonGtr That would be so cool, this unit is a bit hard to understand as a normal peasant haha :) seems like it has so much to offer beyond understanding
I like the song and your really pretty singer ! It's a really interesting product with all the needed connections At the moment it's too early to say something, probably it can be put against a tonex one that at the moment offers more in terms of all in a small factor
Hi Leo, greetings from Scotland 🏴 Thank you for another excellent review of this interesting new piece of gear. Very thorough. I’m having some issues with getting NAM profiles to work with GarageBand so I wondered if a hardware version is the way round this? I’ll need to do a bit more research I think.
Hi, thank you so much, I'm really happy that you appreciate the video! You need to have a NAM plugin loader for GarageBand...I don't know if the native NAM plugin words in garageband...it works for sure in Cubase... Thanks again!
@ I tried NAM Universal and Tonocracy as well as native NAM as a standalone, not in GarageBand, and haven’t been able to get any of them to work so far. I’ll keep trying because the sounds are worth it. Thanks again.
Having two inputs would also mean having the chance of processing two completely separate mono channels, each with their own amp and cab ?Or even just split the same input signal internally and then run two mono lines with different amp/cab each with its own out. Not many units at that price point (probably none right now) are able to do so, would be quite interesting to understand, but guess it depends a lot on firmware and actual processing power.
It would be really cool if some company made something like this, a multifx hardware platform, but a public api and some code examples for simple effects. The greatest problem that I see with multifx units is that you’re totally dependent on the manufacturer for bug fixes and updates. For people who only play at home, I think that’s better to stay with a good audio interface, a reasonable computer and plugins. Better sound quality with less frustrations and regrets.
Dang, if they can hike up the accuracy just a hair so it’s closer to the actual name profile this would be a game changer for myself. Because it’s essentially more than half the price of the dime head player which is super expensive. So if they step up their accuracy this is a no-brainer for myself. Plus also the extra cool features as well. For now my tone X one will get the job done but I’ll keep an eye on this as time goes by to see if they add more to this idea
Amazon in the U.S.A. has a 4 button midi footswitch for 50$. It may or may not be available if you’re in a different country. It’s called the M-vave Chocolate. There are some for cheaper too and they are more or less the same controller just under a different name.
They need put I/O terminal blbcks on these small devices so us devs can take these pieces of gear and create our own integrated pedal boards. If in can wire in my own switches MIDI Devices I can 3D print my own pedal board and combine something like this with the new Sonicake pocket master into a integrated board. With devices like that we can create what best suits us as individual users. They are thinking outside the box but not far enough
I love new guitar gadgets as much as any tech junkie, but I really don't understand the point of taking an already proven open-source amp modeling technology and then internally converting it to a proprietary format. You always lose something in a conversion process. I suppose it might have something to do with their plan to have the device modifiable to other functions in the future, but that's murky water. It's always difficult to make a purchase decision based on what might happen in the future. I think that simply making such a small NAM player would already have put them in a good place in the market - a direct competitor to the Tonex One (famously the best-selling 'amp' of 2024).
Hello, Leo. This device pretty similar with our old Pangaea Ultima. Same features. Using this device i believe about four years. Made in Russia, btw!))
Hi, thank you for your message. I checked out the Ultima in the AMT web site: I would say that there are similarities and differences. It's similare for the "multipurpose" approach...which is very interesting. It's different for the possibility to load profiles. Nonetheless, thank you for pointing it out.
@LeoGibsonGtr i have one. In AMT pretty good analog distortion. But the is no longer support of this device, cause main developer living us couple years ago((. R.i.p
Actually, sound-wise, it doesn't matter for guitar. It is more important for it to be 24bits vs 16bits for accurate dynamics. BUT on the other hand, a higher sampling frequency allows for SHORTER latency in AD and DA converters, but only with a big jump (like going from to 44,1 to 96 - the difference between 44,1 and 48 is not that noticeable-)
You realize you can get an M-vave Blackbox that has all the effects you need as well as the ability to have any NAM quality profile and 2048bit IRs plus Bluetooth , midi and rechargeable for $50 much better than this StompStatuon
The m-vave blackbox profiling is so high quality that you can make a copy of a NAM profile from vst and you will hear no difference. You are wasting your money buying one of these NAM profile players. Loss rates on NAM are less than 1% and copying a NAM with the ANN profiling has the same loss rates so you still have a total loss less than 1%. Save your money and get a blackbox copy all the NAM profiles you want all free . And the blackbox will cost you less than $60 and have 2048bit IRs and all the reverbs delays modulation, compressor boost noise gate you need

I completely agree, this device is worse than the tonex one. Nam is appreciated for its copy accuracy, which is not present in this device.

Looks like this is for home/studio use. Is there a possibility of live use, but adding footswitch controllers, at least patch up/down?

The IR format is 44.1kHz only. Why do you think 48kHz is not supported?
Hi, I have tried to load my IRs (that are ay 48 khz) and I was not able...so I converted it to 44.1 and than I was able to load it.
Thanks!
Because it doesn't support NAM natively. It has to convert nam files into something else. Caloing it a nam player is misleading at best.
Can you load a tonex, helix or an axe fx amp in this?
Hi, so far it manages only NAM profiles.
Thanks!
@@LeoGibsonGtrbut it doesn't. You can't run nam captures with this. It has it's own file format.
I NEED AN AI singer like that! ❤ How can I get it??? Seriously man, I'm a one man band it would be pretty fun to have it.
