The cranka crab is probably my favorite crab lure and have been using them for years but they’ve doubled in price since I started using them. As an economist, I feel there is room in the market for a company like Southern Salt Bait Co to create a competitive lure lol.
Fantastic watch and truly appreciate the use and feedback on our CRANKA crabs... Look forward to making them more accessable and better priced to US anglers in the future... Love the content!
Is that Lake Ponchartrain? Used to fish for sheepshead under the bridge by Slidell...one wrapped the the line around a piling and just stayed there until I released the bail ...then I watched it unwind itself...and it was game on again. Smart fish.
Well, you made a believer out of me. Absolutely, I would buy them!! Probably would have 5 with me at all times. Fiddlers are often hard to come by and with these, why worry about the live bait!
Just came across your video. I fish alot. Camping, boating. I use lures and other bait on a hook. When you go to a tackle shop and ask for a bottom sweeper hook they have no idea what you're talking about. It is designed for catching sheepshead, bullred, I didn't know that now I can actually get a fake lure so real. Thank you. ❤
At $20 a pop, I’d have to say no, but it does make me think that some of the other crab imitation lures out there may be worth trying out. On those days when I can’t catch or buy crabs, those crab lures may just help load the box. Great video, love your content.
Yes sir absolutely I would and will be using the cranka crab. Along with your great point of the claw movement I think it's going to help quite a bit them not being able to Crunch It Off
Another great video. I didn't get to fish any summer because of a injury, but you shore make me want to go get me some fresh fish. That dish shore makes me want some sheepshead!!!! Love your videos. Thanks for taking us along.
Here is south Florida I use the savage gear duratech crabs with blue crab pro-cure for sheepshead when I cant get fiddler crabs. Gonna get a couple of those cranka's foe Christmas and check them out.
Have you ever used Savage Gear crab lures? I have used them extensively for Blackfish in the Northeast with great success (although with attractant). But the cost benefit is worth it.
I've found Crank-a-crabs work extremely well on both pilings and along grass lines with steep mud banks below them. The lures are expensive, but are the best crab lures I've ever used
I’d go back to crickets if fiddlers were unavailable. However, I just built a fiddler crab trap and placed it out on a culvert, can’t wait to see how it works.
Great Job Nate ! I Would Definitely Like To Try Those Artificial Fiddler Crabs ! I Will Be Ordering Some In The Near Future ! Thanks For Sharing Your Tips And Techniques ! That Breaded Fish Is The Real Deal Brother ! Especially The Way You Prepared It And Paired It With The Noodles And Butter Sauce ! PLEASE KEEP POSTING THESE GREAT VIDEOS ON YOUR CHANNEL !!!
After watching your vid , I’m think’n if they work that well without sent ,how good could they work with sent I’ve got a set of savage gear crabs that I’ll be try’n but I’m look’n for some crab sent , ha, I need all the help I can get 😄👍🏼.
you want to buy mine? here in bizarro world also known as muddy Jacksonville St Johns River. I tried those for a solid week in and around pilings you can't give that thing away. even slathered it with procure. but that's not uncommon for bizarro world Florida.
I would absolutely use it if I could 3 for $20 which is still expensive. I guess I'll be dragging my butt to the flats chasing crabs I'm the summer and diggin em up in the winter. Great video. Maybe they'll sponsor you. I was surprised by the success, but when I first saw it on your video I thought it was the best concept pfe artificial crab lures I've ever seen. Would be awesome to be able to make your own. Is the body a soft plastic or a hard fiberglass?
Great video brother! At the price point I definitely would have to pass on that lure. It does put ‘em in the boat tho! What would you say is your top 5 sheepshead artificial lures? Keep up the great work! Tight lines!!!
Might buy one just to try it and see how it is made. Price is insane especially when it is likely to loose it on day one. Any idea of the size hook being used?
I do love me some Sheepshead… never tried frying them… I usually broil em in the oven with a garlic lemon butter baste along with some diced tomato on top. Call it poor man’s lobster. And grilled over a pecan & mesquite fire with the same basting sauce with or without tomatoes. As to Butter, Bacon and Beer… Hell, I’m to old to make a purtty Corpse… so no need to start worrying now.
Good video, no way I'm spending $20 on a lure I'll definitely lose at some point...how do fish it? I'm not opposed to using crab lures. Just expensive ones...😂😂
What's the water temperature in Alabama? I tried for sheepshead here in central Florida and couldn't hook up on any because the water temp is still a little too warm (76 F).
Very important! Fluorocarbon is nearly invisible in water and having the slime on there definitely makes it visible and it could affect the sink rate of your leader material also.
Hey bud, I really enjoy your channel and content. To answer the question. I cannot imagine that the average workingman would never invest $20 per bait. Especially under the circumstances of the bridge column, and how often the line is cut by the barnacles in oysters.
All the comments about 20 dollar baits I would tell these folks don't ever start trolling offshore as Wahoo Tuna and Marlin lures can be well north of 100 bucks I would cry if a Barracuda bit me oft 😂😂 I did catch a big Cobia on the Cranka Crab

I'd definitely be interested in buying from Southern Salt.

Thank you and you definitely have one heck of a lure here for sheepshead!!
Cranka crab design and invented in Australia... 😁😁😁👍👍👍
🙌 🙌
I would get a few as back up when the crabs are hard to find for sure. Ordering mine now.
🙌 🙌
Imported from Australia .. there’s the cost !! still an expensive lure here in Aust ..

You should use procure crab send to attract sheep head better When you use artificial crabs or shrimp.
Yeah, I really was wanting to see how the lure worked without anything added to it.
Got a kick out of you throwing the lemons in the yard. 👍🏼

Wow you have made my mouth water for some fresh sheepshead one of my favorite fish and they are a tough customer on light tackle. Keep em coming

Gotta get one and try it. What a great haul of sheepshead. Top 3 fish on my list. Love the catch and cook vids.

Thanks brother and good luck!!
That’s my home water man hope to meet you out there one day. I’ve caught some bigs off both of those bridges.
It’s very likely brother, if you ever see stop by and say hey!

Just amazing how you can target different species of fish and have great success- love the recipe- tight lines- PuraSal Angler 🙌🏻

Hey Nathan have you tried the savage gear crab yet? I know they carry them locally at the field and stream in mobile and it’s $8 for 2.
Yeah I tried it last year. I think I caught 1 on it.

I'd definitely use this please link me where I can buy them ..I went through 2 dozen fiddlers and a dozen muds and only got 3 keepers
🙌 Crankalures.com
$20 is pricey, but they obviously work. I'd definitely be using a heavier leader. I appreciate the review!!
I bet it would be fun to take a 8 or 9 wt. fly rod and a full sink line and use a crab or shrimp pattern around those pilings
Now that would be fun for sure!!
@@southernsalt Or if you don't have a fly rod you could fish one with a drop shot. That is a cool looking lure though.
Love your videos. What bag do you put your fish in on the kayak?
Thank you. I use a Magellan soft cooler
Now ! Is that right out the pack with no scent no chumming the pillings first ? I think you should share that info if your representing a new lure
I didn’t chum nor add scent.
Can tell us what brand or which kind of fish finder/gps you got on there 🙏🏻
Lowrance Elite FS 9
Have you ever tired soft plastic bass craw baits for sheeps? I have always wondered if a craw bait would work for these guys, just a thought.
I haven’t but if I found some small enough I’m sure they would work
Just a couple weeks and I’ll be there!🎉
🙌 🙌

It is definitely one of the best made crabs I’ve ever seen, I got some cheaper crabs on the way I’ll be trying soon.
Nate, where do you launch your kayak near that bridge?? Or is it a long haul for you ?
It’s a 2 hour haul for me.
I'll use it!!
🙌
Not sure what seasoned Panko you are using. But I use Progresso Italian Panko and I like much better than other brands.
I think that’s what I used.
another great video. Question tho.....how much is that kayak and where can I get one? Please keep up with the content, love your work.
I don't know the price offhand but that is an Old Town Autopilot kayak.
@@shawnholton8996 I'll see if I can look it up. Thanks!
I think it’s around 5k and I got a link in the description that’ll take to the website

Thanks man! Definitely the crab then the 2”Vudu shrimp. From there it gets tough lol.
I was wanting to know how long does it last, not considering getting snagged on the pilons? Do the Sheepshead teeth destroy them quickly?
They’re pretty durable I could see them lasting awhile
Might buy one just to try it and see how it is made. Price is insane especially when it is likely to loose it on day one. Any idea of the size hook being used?
Yeah I agree. The hooks are super small maybe a #8
I love me some sheepshead
🙌 🙌
Doesn’t gulp have a crab , if so I would try that.
They do, I’ve got a video on here using them as well
Which ones were u using ?
I Thought this Crab lure would be like using a rubber cricket for Bream they don't work .
But they probably never seen this lure before and aren't shy of hitting it .
I do love me some Sheepshead… never tried frying them…
I usually broil em in the oven with a garlic lemon butter baste along with some diced tomato on top. Call it poor man’s lobster.

They are pretty dang expensive lol. I just ordered some very cheap crab lures I’ll be testing.
Been wanting to get on these sheep head! so much fun. have you tried any of the little crab lures from amazon?
A few of them. I’m going to find some more budget friendly crabs to use.
What's the water temperature in Alabama? I tried for sheepshead here in central Florida and couldn't hook up on any because the water temp is still a little too warm (76 F).
It was around 70 on this day.
How important is it to clean off the catfish slime from the line? Will that discourage bites if left on?
Very important! Fluorocarbon is nearly invisible in water and having the slime on there definitely makes it visible and it could affect the sink rate of your leader material also.
Very important. The slime will make your line detectable by the sheepshead which have incredible eye sight
I wonder if these would work for tog or seabass ?
They should
What other fish can I use it for? I use lure where I can.
Redfish
Good video, I think I would buy it.
🙌 🙌
Is this the twin span in louisiana?
Never been there
you can find these and buy them in bulk. i get about 10 for 100$ shipped.
I haven’t seen that but that seems like a good deal!
Killing me! I'm starting work.

@@southernsalt hell of a day, my man! I'd spend the $20 to get that crab. Seemed like a winner to me!
