Thank you for your time. My wife and I are bringing another couple down on the Monday the 12th. We hope they are hungry. Probably won’t get there until about midday. Plan on fishing Tuesday and returning home on Wednesday. Information like this really helps the ones of us that travel to be able to fish a day or two. We live in Buchanan Va and it’s gonna be a trip. I hope the tropical storm doesn’t mess things up. We will more than likely use the public ramp at lynhaven or the one over by the seafood store. Thanks again. I don’t know how to see your reply if you do so tight lines brother.
This is the first series/video of yours I've watched. You do a great job. Factual and to the point. Not a lot BS, not a lot of melodrama and arm waving. I appreciate your style and I've subbed.
Man I really appreciate this feedback. I thought this video over for days and even had somewhat of a script that I wrote for it. I hate trying to learn something on TH-cam and having to watch a bunch of crap to get hardly any useful knowledge...
Just watched video one and two on sheepshead. Loved them. Very informative and love the money saving tips. Your videos man, keep it up. It blows my mind that you don't have more subscribers.
Great videos! I’m new to inshore fishing and have been struggling to catch sheepshead. This is the most straightforward and informative video I have seen on the subject. Also, sweet tip on using line instead of leader material! You just saved me a ton of money. Got the subscription! Keep it up.
I have a good tip for these fish. Don't skimp on hooks. Don't use cheap hooks, brand comes down to preference but get the strongest ones you can find. A big sheepshead can bite right through a cheap hook.
Sheepshead also congregate on offshore natural and artificial reefs especially during their spawning period. Here in North Florida they congregate most January-April.
They have been spotted at the mouth of the Chesapeake bay in early May doing the mating thing. They are out there paired up in huge numbers... They will not bite anything though
great video (both of them). tips: to calm any fish, cover its eyes....they wont shake as much. hold the sheapshead like a six pack (on their eyes). their spikes wont be a problem.
Good content! My favorite fish to target. Down here in FL, it's not too common to see 20+ inch sheepers inshore. Average around 16-17 so i use the 1/0.
I catch 20+ inch sheepers often but you gotta fish at or near an inlet or nearshore reefs or wrecks on moving tide during Jan-April. Let the 20+ inch fish go so they can re-populate. Keep a few smaller ones for the table. Enjoy.
Very informative and enjoyable. Would love to talk to you about live scope on the boat. I'm learning, but need help. Easy to see spades and bait so far.
Love the way you explain things. Very easy to follow. Question. Have you ever tried setting your drop shot where it is not floating off the main line instead put your hook right on the main line to feel the bite easier?
Thanks for all your content Jessie. Have you ever tried putting a baited sweeper on the bottom of your dropper rig? IE, two baits. If so, what was the result? Thanks
Learning a ton from watching your videos. thanks for posting them. Still waiting for my boat to arrive. should be next week. are you fishing on the bridge near wise point? I understand if you don't want to disclose :). I'm not looking to mess anyone up. I'm brand new to fishing so I don't know the etiquette. Thanks
So typically with like snapper or something I wait for a "tug" rather than a "bite" because when they are biting like that they haven't swallowed it yet and I end up just pulling it out of their mouth. Is it different with sheepshead? Do you need to set the hook right away if you feel a small bite or a nibble? Or should you wait until you feel a more solid pull on the line?
Great 2 part video. If there is anything to take away from this is to release older larger fish. I think the bay fishery has declined in some aspects with average sizes being one of them. If seasoned anglers who probably make up a large portion of the recreational fishery lived by an unwritten code of conduct (one ex: slot sizes for all species designed specifically to target the smaller but theoretically more abundant size classes) and instill that in every new angler they fish with. Also with the explosion of youtube resulting in more people fishing with increased success it would only make sense to use the same platform for fisheries conservation.
I agree completely. I was a bit of the typical catch and keep all for that "Instagram" picture or the "TH-cam Thumbnail" in the beginning of all this. But the more I have learned the more I have become a firm believer in conservation. Now days I only keep what I can eat while it is still fresh and let the rest go and at the same time make sure I treat them respectfully during the catch process so they live. But I have to be honest, I am not too worried about Sheepshead's survival, because they are some tough sob's to learn how to catch and most folks will give up pretty quickly lol!
@@SouthernReelsFishing lol true...Im an old hippie guy we called em " heads" and..there was no limit ..back in the day..Just caught a few for dinner..and went back another time..much respect Brother
@@SouthernReelsFishing for me growing up in the bay (I'm 27) I did alot of bottom fishing with my parents but their mentality has always been if we spent money and effort to catch it (and its legal) then it's going in the cooler. The sizes of croaker without question have gone down. Flounder seems the same as well. So now that I am more knowledgeable I try to teach them if we are struggling to catch fish then the fish are struggling to live (alot of fishing pressure). Lastly with covid there has been alot of boaters and kayakers hammering inshore fish. If it keeps up then offshore is gonna be the last frontier for fishing. Thanks for responding and keep up the good work.
The weight bobbing down followed by the crab saying oh god help me was hilarious 😂
The best most comprehensive tutorial on sheepshead fishing. Thank you.

@@SouthernReelsFishing absolutely brother!!! Keep up the great work!!
This is the BEST fishing video on TH-cam.
Great video. I am just getting my old Proline boats back in fishing condition. I love the outdoors and enjoy fishing! I learned a lot from your video.
Well done. Much better than videos that just show someone fishing and catching.
The most comprehensive 2 parts video a have seen so far about fishing the sheepshead.
Thank you much!
Best sheepshead information on TH-cam period! Hi from OBX NC
If your ever in the outer banks area and want to fish Oregon inlet message me man I think there is a World record here no joke

Great video! Love that you mentioned conserving the old dudes! Tight lines!
Thank so much, and the old age conservation tips were FANTASTIC!
This was very comprehensive. Helpful to me as a new saltwater fisherman. There are docks near me I think would be great to try for these guys at!
Glad it was helpful!

Excellent tips. Appreciate it.
Good videos Jesse, learned a lot about sheepshead. Heading to OBX for a week next week. Looking to get on some flounder, reds and specks hopefully.
Thanks for watching
Thanks again I can't wait to try this coming week.
Good information!
Good stuff Jesse. Ive had the same issue with Spot lock going haywire around pilings.
Yeah the bridge and pilings seem to either mess with the motors compass or block gps satellites. Maybe a combination of both.
Great info in these videos..thank you
Glad you like them!
Great tutorial. Never caught one,but hope to🤪
Thanks Jesse for all the tips we love catch Sheephead too.👍
You bet!
Thanks for you time do..😉
Thanks a bunch for sharing ! Gonna try for some of them next good weather day.
Good luck!

Great videos, thanks for all the info
No problem 👍
Love the way you explain things. Very easy to follow.
Question. Have you ever tried setting your drop shot where it is not floating off the main line instead put your hook right on the main line to feel the bite easier?
I have never tried that honestly. Worth a shot i guess
Another great video. I have a request can you brake down flounder and puppy drum this same way? How to see you on the water!
I will try!
Thanks for the info Sir. Very well done!
Glad it was helpful!
Again, GREAT series!!! Loved it!
Glad you enjoy it!
Very valuable info. Thanks Jesse. Does anyone know if it's illegal to tie off to the pilings?
It is illegal but I see folks do it all the time
What time of year/ water temps do you find best? Especially bridge piling fishing, not offshore.
Summer season, water temps 65 and up
Thanks for all your content Jessie. Have you ever tried putting a baited sweeper on the bottom of your dropper rig? IE, two baits. If so, what was the result? Thanks
No but it isn't a bad idea
Thank you for taking so much time to explain how to catch them. I kayaked fish for them and it can be very frustrating.
Good stuff!!
Thanks!

That bridge is so big you can't possibly ruin it by saying where I am. I was at the South end of the CBBT.
Thanks for the info.
Question.
What crate is on your kayak?
Like the way you can get to the net.
Hobie crate

I swing immediately, you usually only get one shot before the hook is clean
@@SouthernReelsFishing Thx bro that makes sense
Can you use spider crabs?
Another great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great man
What is the reel called you like to use? I missed the name.
I have Jon boat. Where would be a good place in North Carolina to fish for sheepshead that I would be safe and catch some during May?
Thats a tough one. Maybe Kiptopeke State Park when there are no winds and not much current
What makes the kayaks you guys use so much safer in the big water. I have been contemplating selling my john boat and getting a kayak.
Great videos
Glad you like them!
Do one on flounder!
You should consider doing a founder video like this.
I am working on it for later this month
Thanks for the content!!,
My pleasure!
Take me fishing with you next time you go!!!
Doing charters later this year
@@SouthernReelsFishing where can I purchase the Quantum baitcaster you use
Thanks Jesse, hope one day to meet you in the water and thank you in person
I hope so too!
did u say the sheepshead spine deadly?
Not actually deadly, but it is definitely not fun getting stabbed by them

Yeah. Down here on East Coast Florida MOST PEOPLE DONT BELIEVE THAT..got a bunch of Limit OUT!! Meat Hogs

The only fish I hate and would rather die are salt water cats tbh once it turns into the evening you go from non to 10+ quick and smallies too.
🔥
Gotta set the hook just before the sheepshead bites. Lol
Yeah I always thought that was funny. Have heard it quite a few times
Yeah, old timer told me the same thing yrs ago. Funny, I was thinking it and you said it on your video. That's what I was laughing about.
Click bait
