My newest rod is a 75cm two-section telescopic rod that fits in my small backpack, it’s solid enough, it feels great and it looks great, especially with the reel I bought for it, colours match nicely 👍 I’m forty now, but since my early twenties my gear has just kept getting smaller and lighter, and the level of fun I’ve had with it gets better and better, lol For me, not only is it more fun feeling every little movement, but you know that if you hook a big one you’re really going to have to work hard to land it 👌 🎣

Grab the males buy the big claw so they can't pinch you and twist it off. Then they're clawless and won't get you. Females don't have claws. Good luck!
I saw a video the guy addressed being pinched by using long needle nose plyers and catching them from behind by hand. He also said to leave the big claw attached. I also saw another video where the guy said pull the claw off due to sheephead targeting the claw before hitting the crab and hook, causing you to loose fish and crab.
Charleston, SC here. I bought the Cranka Crab, but I haven't really been able to use it. (Took two weeks to get delivered). Maybe when it gets warmer I will take my 10ft pond prowler in the river and use them. I usually stay near the edge until I get under the bridge. Great catches.

I fish for walleyes, steelheads, and salmon in Michigan; occasionally, I catch a big catfish. I use 8lb monofilament for everything. It's makes fishing faster and more fun fighting the fish. You just have to be patient; and it requires some finesse.
The type of fishing line I'd prefer to use when fishing for sheep head's black dum an flownder fish 🐠🐟🐠🐟 is mono filament line or breaded line at 40 to 60 now if you're fishing off rooks or even fishing off cliffs then onistly it's best to use 80 to 120 lbs test lines

Awesome man! So it seems from the comments that my setup is pretty standard. There’s a few that go heavier but 15-20 pound setups seem to be the most used setup.
Tip your Crusty Crab with a piece of shrimp, for scent! Or smear on the Pro Cure scent! That will help. But, if they make them in muddy brown, that would help it look natural.
Hey I live in Beaumont, Tx. Sheepshead are my favorite fish to eat. I like to use 30 lb braided line. I primarily fish from the bank so I prefer the heavier line to get the fish away from structure. I really enjoyed your video and look forward to watching your future content.

15-20lb big game has caught me many bull reds so it's fine for sheep's Now I seem to struggle with braid at the same strength as it breaks easily and also weathers quickly where I have to change it regularly in salt water. 15-20LB Berkley big game mono or around 40lb+ braid
I catch all my sheeps head on 10pound braid and 20-25pound leader. I agree with you, lighter tackle is way funner, catches just as much and in reality its lower profile so less spooking fish. Easy peasy.
I like using light tackle myself. Anywhere between 10lbs-15lbs with a 20lb monofilament leader on a 1500-2500 reel. Around piling I go up to 20 lbs with a 30lbs monofilament leader

Seems like you would totally defeat the purpose of the small line. If your goin to put tubing over your line you may as well use a 120 lb mono leader
The leader would still be exposed. He’s talking about using tubing around the knot which’s where most of my line drag occurs.

I use 15lb braid/15 mono or fluorocarbon for sheeps, and 10braid/20 mono in the flats. I like the Salt Strong Power Prawn Jr with ProCure Shrimp gel on it.
Good Fishin!
Awesome man! So it seems from the comments that my setup is pretty standard. There’s a few that go heavier but 15-20 pound setups seem to be the most used setup.
Houston,Tx....I keep 20lb line on deck for the Sheepies..., nice vid man... TIGHT LINES!!!! 👍
Thanks brother! Love visiting Houston and fishing the Bayou Vista / Jones Bay Area!
Tip your Crusty Crab with a piece of shrimp, for scent! Or smear on the Pro Cure scent! That will help.
But, if they make them in muddy brown, that would help it look natural.
Houston Texas is watching keep the lines tight
🙌 🙌
Huntsville, AL. Trying to get down there for a guided trip. I have my own kayak and gear.
Reach out to me on Facebook and we will set it up.
Hey I live in Beaumont, Tx. Sheepshead are my favorite fish to eat. I like to use 30 lb braided line. I primarily fish from the bank so I prefer the heavier line to get the fish away from structure. I really enjoyed your video and look forward to watching your future content.
Nice!!
I'm in Columbia, SC. I normally fish off piers in Myrtle Beach. Enjoyed your video and will be trying for so Sheepshead this weekend.
Really enjoying your vids. . Thanks. I'll be out there tomorrow. I use 20 lb braid and 20 lb Fluorocarbon. That's my go to for just about all inshore. Snook, Trout, Redfish. Keep it going. Naples, FL
Good luck brother, thanks!!
I’ve thought about a imitation crab. And maybe grab some blue crab fish bite and try that!!
I bet the fish bites will work in dirty water
@@southernsalt yes sir I believe soo too! I’ve seen the blue crab scented fish bites come out. But have not seen it in stores. Wouldn’t be a bad combo to try! With a imitation 🦀 crab!
Not at all. I’ll try to get my hands on some!
Nice work when you can get it. Thanks from New Jersey Monmouth County shore.
Thanks man!!
where i live we catch sheepshead on typically 6-10lb fluro but never on purpose. BUT where i'm from we call drums sheepshead as well.. not really sure why.
Alma Arkansas, I'm going to Navarre June 23rd to visit family for a couple days and going to try to fish while I'm there.
That’s an awesome place to fish! You going by foot, boat, or kayak?
@@southernsalt foot
@@southernsalt I hope I get to catch some good eating fish to bring home.
I like ultralight for most fishing. Adds a new dementia to the challenge that is fishing.
I'm in Virginia beach VA and I have used 20 lb braid and 30 lb leader
Good deal, thanks for sharing!!
Hey Nate ;Great content love your videos, especially those sheepshead I love sheepshead fishing here in Jupiter Florida,,,and I just ate my first Black drum man I wont be throwing many of them back , delicious,I use 15lb braid and 25Lb. flouro or mono..
Thanks for sharing Brother
Yessir 🙌 that’s awesome brother, thanks for sharing!!
15-20lb big game has caught me many bull reds so it's fine for sheep's
Now I seem to struggle with braid at the same strength as it breaks easily and also weathers quickly where I have to change it regularly in salt water. 15-20LB Berkley big game mono or around 40lb+ braid
Nice, thanks for sharing!!
Great video we are watching you from orange beach alabama. We enjoy watching you try new baits keep up the great work
Awesome man, thanks!!
I catch all my sheeps head on 10pound braid and 20-25pound leader. I agree with you, lighter tackle is way funner, catches just as much and in reality its lower profile so less spooking fish. Easy peasy.
🙌
I'm from Shalimar FL. I fish choctawhatchee and Escambia Bay.
Nice! I’ve had some good days fishing Shalimar point!
Catch and release is awesome. I know some people would love to have a few for their family.

Awesome!! Thanks!
I like using light tackle myself. Anywhere between 10lbs-15lbs with a 20lb monofilament leader on a 1500-2500 reel. Around piling I go up to 20 lbs with a 30lbs monofilament leader
Nice, thanks for sharing brother!
I just watched your video on crickets for bait. You were being bit off because they liked them so much they were swallowing them. Can you find sand fleas in your area? Try them.
I think I can go get some off the beach, thanks for the recommendation!
I'm from Hickory North Carolina, and just kinda found you without looking, great content!!!!
