Just about the only person on TH-cam who knows how to get under the rust with a needle scaler and not polish it with a brass wire wheel . Bravo my man .
Haha yup gotta love it when you see other videos of people just polishing the rust thinking that they are removing it then painting over it and wondering why the rust is back within a week.
Perfect video. Comfy narration, lots of small tricks to solve problems, lots of easy to grasp learning, and great results. This is the best "diy" asmr restoration channel on YT. Keep up the amazing work.
I really appreciate the quick rundown on the plating. ive watch you do it dozens of times and kinda know how it works but he quick refresher is very much appreciated.
I understand exactly ZIP of cars. Never even removed a headrest for vacuuming since I was afraid I couldn't get it back on! Having said that, I must say, I've been watching your restorations with great fun and I do enjoy each new episode.
Im so glad you enjoy my videos and i hope i can pass enough of my knowledge onto you that you wont be afraid to take on some projects of your own one day :)
Yes more of the subaru I could watch this all day! You work so incredibly effectively yet so precisely too I wouldn't have half the patience or craftiness you have
That needle scaler and compressor got a hell of a workout there!!! Needle scaler saves a ton of time though. I got mine well over 25 years ago and it paid for itself the first time I used it. I admire your tenacity. Most folks would've just junked that subframe and replaced it with how bad it was.
@@cccpkingu Vinegar won't leave the metal looking that pristine, I think in part because it "stains" the bare metal but will clean the rust off. The fact that the parts looked like they had just been manufactured is astounding.
Just stumbled across this series. As a huge fan of the classic shape Impreza, I am absolutely loving these videos! Thank you for making them entertaining 👏🏻👍🏻
The bracket though a simple fixture, got some intense fabrication built to factory spec, I can only admire how you work with what you have and thinking outside the box...two words....WoWeY-ZoWeY!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏! The work is amazing!
Once again I thought for a split second you were going to attempt to weld that manky old bracket back together. One day I will learn that that simply isn't the RRC way!
Perfect video to relax after a long, long day on the front line! You should offer classes to those of us who aspire to get our old Subarus back on the road. Thank you again, Roll on the next Episode.
I did the same job on a GC end of 2019 and wow what a load of work. My subframe and knuckles weren't salvageable though. So, I used a set along with some other rear end components and hardware I got in trade for a 30 rack of beer. Grinding and hammering the rust off the diff was a real pain as well. Yours was in much nicer shape than mine. The diff cover had corroded so badly it actually had a hole once the corrosion was removed. Even with the replacement knuckles I had to weld and build up the e-brake shoe backing points as they had some holes, then grind them flat again. I had to removed rust behind the backing plate, hammer it back down, and weld it so it wouldn't expand out again. The ABS sensors were an absolute terror to get out of the old knuckles, but they're so expensive so I tried to save them. Were I to do it all again on a restoration car I planned to keep forever, I'd likely rather buy a lot of new components instead. Especially given how much fits from the GD/GG cars. That said, my reasoning was similar to yours. Structurally sound bits and a car that would be driven hard and didn't need factory fresh. Plus it saves a ton of money. Agree with you on the hardware as well! People don't realize it would be quite a bit of money to replace all those nuts and bolts.
Hey, Thanks for your comment sounds like you had a rough time salvaging your GC, like yourself when i dropped all the parts out i was thinking yup this is gonna be expensive but after a more thorough inspection amazingly all the components were still 100% structurally sound despite their appearance haha and your spot on about the hardware its not long in adding upto mental money thats why i always reuse if i can.
@@RRCRestoration Definitely rough! Unfortunately the car itself is destined for scrap. Worst frame I have ever seen on a GC with very bad previous repairs as well. Used that Deox-C for all my hardware on my Integra Type R. Superb stuff for the money.
It really is, i wouldn't use anything else now
Great job mate, and you do not need a bead roller, you're doing just fine without! 😊
Always a pleasure to see you, this is very true but imagine the projects i could tackle if i had one? ;) lol
But there so much fun to drive in the wet. It’ll be a fine example when your finished tho. Looking forward to your next video
Very true and they are even more fun in the snow but im happy to only take her out on dry days from now on. Really glad you are enjoying the project :)
Amazing video! Really hope we get to see some track footage once the project is completed!
That's the plan ;)

Hells bells my friend -- Eyes popped out of my head at 8:00 WOW!!!

Excellent series all round, plus the return of Henry!
It's George! I take great pride that his vacuum bears my name!
If you're ever going to do a more durable underbody coat on future projects, you can't go wrong with Cerakote instead of powder coating
You need one of those laser rust remover guns...great workmanship 👍
Hi, i'd love one it would certainly cut down the time and mess haha
Always look forward to a good old notification fromThe Greatest Chanel out there buy far!
Great work buddy 👍🏻
Thank you so much :)
I dunno, watching that one bushing come out was pretty bloody satisfying, I reckon I could sit through 30 of them.
Haha i should have made a directors cut and included all of the bushes being pressed out, oh well next time ;)
Wow, this is my first time hearing your voice and I love that accent.
Stunning quality work, and attention to detail, as ever.
Thank you so much 😀
Living in Australia my whole life I didn't even know it was possible to get anything this bad.
All of our subframes still have the factory powder coating. All that you have to do to get them to look new is to pressure wash them and use a bit of degreaser haha
We don't salt roads, worst we get is 4wd chassis and diffs going bad from beach work.
But Lanolin fixes any chance of steel going bad if applied regularly.
Actually, I do want to see the bushings removed 30 odd times. Rust removal is so satisfying.
