🎮 ABOUT THE GAME 🎮
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones is a tactical role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems, and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance handheld video game console in 2004 for Japan and 2005 in the West. It is the eighth entry in the Fire Emblem series, the second to be released outside Japan, and the third and final title to be developed for the Game Boy Advance after The Binding Blade and its prequel Fire Emblem.
Set in a separate continuity to earlier Fire Emblem titles, The Sacred Stones takes place on the fictional continent of Magvel, which is divided into five nations, each built around a magical stone said to be linked to the imprisonment of an ancient demon. When one of the five nations, the Grado Empire, invades its neighbors and begins destroying the stones, protagonists Eirika and Ephraim of the royal family of Renais set out to gather allies and halt Grado's conquest, while also trying to uncover the reasons for the war. The gameplay is similar to previous Fire Emblem games, focusing on turn-based, tactical movement of units across a grid-based battlefield. Core features of the game include permanent death for characters defeated in battle and support conversations that grant advantages to certain units in battle.

Most will say Knoll, but I think you should L'arachel. I'm not sure what rules you'd need to change to make it work, since troubadours can't engage in combat. But I think it would be fun to explore.
I think a solo run with some of the creature campaign exclusive units could be cool. See if a unit that has the opposite problems as trainees can clear it. (starting out stronger, but less levels to gain.)
Although, because this is for rating units that are usable in main game, might be better for bonus episodes lol.

@@kratosmvn_ It went smoothly solely coz you didnt use vidofnir, its the worst sacred twin treasure, but yeah going great knight with garm would have made this run a breeze even if you didnt cap strength. Fun vid, Knoll next xD
I don't think Amelia is a bad unit at all; it's just that she's level 1 @ chapter 9, you have 12 turns to get to her before she despawns, you also have to contend with wave after wave of stuff going through her area; there is a f*cking myramon with a Killing Edge that will aggro you if you try to drop Erika outside Amelia's attack radius. Then you have to get make sure Erika and Amelia both make survive the Fighter aggro.
It just seems like the game itself hates Amelia. I'm doing a solo run with her and after the first half of Chapter 1... i never had any problems with her after that. In fact, after 2 she's wrecking house now. Amelia seems to suffer from shitty environment more than anything else.
@@shirrenthewanderer414 Sounds an awful lot like Fiona. Fiona has the best caps of all Paladins in the game and decent growths, but her map selection is god awful.

I love Amelia in particular as a General because her whole body is the size of like, one leg of that armor. It is clearly some sort of mecha that she pilots rather than something she wears. And bright pink.
Watching the crit get Great Shielded was hilarious. Ultimately Paladin was probably the fastest at clearing maps and it was nice to see all that green.
Yeah I literally couldn't believe it at the time lol.

@@kratosmvn_ More than anything this is why I don't like Great Knight. I just think the design looks ugly lol. I know Great Knight is statistically superior, but Paladin just always looks better. And, well, Paladin just is superior in everything except solo runs anyway. :P
I knew Amelia was going to do well as a Paladin.
Her early start is indicative of a bad unit, but unlike Ross and Ewan, her more generalized stat spread allows her to have no real weaknesses in the long-term, especially since Speed is king in Sacred Stones.
I'm curious to see how a Great Knight playthrough with Amelia goes because getting access to more powerful weapons and more strength sounds like just the edge Amelia would need to break into S-tier, but I am also not confident that this boost in damage will be enough especially in the end-game versus the Demon King.
Yeah, that's true about her stats she does have that going for her. I'm also intrigued about GK and General might do another video later addressing some of that stuff!

Taking into account True hit, the 83% chance is actually a 94.39% chance meaning you miss 5.61%
The odds of missing twice are: 0.0561 * 0.0561 = 0.00315, roughly a 0.3% chance of occurring.
What's even funnier, is that great shield triggers off of the opponent, meaning that there is only a 4% chance of it triggering.
(As far as I'm aware, it only takes into account the unit's displayed level, otherwise it would be a 34% chance, but let's assume it only takes current level into account)
0.04 * 0.04 = 0.0016, a .16% chance of occurring twice.
Taking them both into account, 0.0016 * 0.00315 = 0.00000504
...or a .0005% chance of missing twice AND having great shield trigger twice. (If my math was correct)

If you are allowed to struggle anywhere, the prologue and last map should be the only ones for a consistently good unit. Very curious how great knight would have done since those higher caps would have seemed to have made a big difference and access to garm what with it being garm and all. Great run and glad to see Amelia do so well.
I agree! I think the GK may have had a worst turn count overall, but I think the final chapters would have felt a little smoother probably.
I think you should do Joshua, because he's a pretty fun character to play with in this game. Also Gerik would be cool, he comes with his own promo item.
I love both of those characters and would love to try them out at some point!
Gerik was always my go to in this game. And hated how he never saw any love in any future games as dlc/extra characters. One of the easiest choke point tanks and triangle breakers for any playthrough.

Yes, cavalier Amelia looks fantastic indeed. She always has a spot on my party.
She does have a great sprite. She can be hit or miss for me, but overall she's an enjoyable unit.
Since it’s well-documented knowledge that Seth can (perhaps even easily) solo this game, it’s not surprising at all that another paladin can do the same once they start snowballing.
I definitely thought the prologue would’ve been just about impossible for Amelia though!
Yeah, after the prologue and chapter 1, it was pretty easy to know it was gonna happen beyond that it was more of a question of how long it would take.
I'm excited for Colm and Neimi's runs, they're really underrated units (I think Colm is gonna have a very easy time, actually. Neimi will be rough until she promotes)
I can't wait to get to those runs either, both super interesting characters.
The main problems i see is chapter 2 and 6. But if you beat 6 without the villager dying you can already promote.
My favourite part was when he said "It's Ameling time!" and Ameliad all over the place.

Commenting from post-Chapter 1 so far: I feel like Amelia has an oddity in this run. The prologue is such a wall for Amelia that she has to be RNG blessed to even start the run, which all but ensures a better-than-average Amelia for a completed run.

Aaahh, the insistence of the gba fire emblems that all physical female units have noodle little arms is an endless source of frustration. That being said, Amelia usually turns up pretty decent for me, and I like characters who start weak but with a lot of potential to grow (hereby making the game much harder on myself). Glad to see she did well !
She has a fun training arc and I feel the run showcased it pretty well! It is an awkward mechanic of the GBA games for female units.

Yep, toughest part of the run.
After my first Amelia solo run, I hacked in a Fort in the Prologue and gave Seth of Franz's vulneraries, and turned all the inital enemies other than the closet one to "Do not move" so they don't attack Franz/Gillam while Amelia solos them (because bringing Iron Lance/Vulneraries she needs in the middle of fighting sometimes drags them into it, this way I can cleanly solo and get meds/equips without them having to come over).
So pumped to see another of these!

Question that I feel is relevant for both the Knoll/Ewan runs: What is the legality of summons?
They are fair game because it's a mechanic of the character.
As you hit all your stat caps relatively early, I feel like general would actually have really shined just due to the stat caps. yeah, you move slower, but with all the boosters she should still one shot most units lategame.
Yeah, I think you're right on that front she may have been a monster general.
@@kratosmvn_ getting through the knight levels is where it's difficult because she can't reliably dodge, two hit or one shot mages with javelins. by the time you get to general however she can do all three of those things due to better stats and because hand axe is better than javelins.
@windhelmguard5295 Promotional gains are the only stat differences in stats for this game since there are character but no class growths.
Her stats are really not that different besides move in either class
Honestly pretty glad you went paladin on Amelia. I like to make her a general but we've already seen a great knight and general run with Franz and Gilliam so finishing the recruit line with a paladin keeps it fresh

😂😂 ... I'm sorry, I can't say it won't happen again, but she did make me eat my words.
Man that beginning was Tough... Probably one of the hardest starting chapters you can possibly have in one of these, I assume only someone like Ewan will be having this much trouble when you get to it. General Amelia rules, of course, but yeah in the context of soloing all these maps, cav movement is hard to argue with. So glad to see my girl get her flowers like this and barely suffer in the endgame.
Yeah, the huge hurdle was the starting chapter and then it simplified. She did great even as a Paladin I'm sure as a GK or General she might have been better in certain aspects.
my first playthrough of sacred stones I trained up amelia and made her a great knight to try and get her some defense but it didn't work. So I essentially had a great knight who reliably dodge tanked everything in the endgame and she also hit pretty hard she wasn't a bad unit it was just funny to see a great knight dodge tanking

I remember great knight amelia on Chapter 19 just standing at the bottom of the map, where tons of enemies spawn, and being a death machine. It was on normal though.
This Amelia would have rocked as a Great Knight I think!
Super curious to how Great Knight would fare with higher Strength and Axes to help carve through the lance heavy mid to late game. Might be something to try myself. Good run.

38:57 She did as I expected. Horses do well in turn count and Amelia is a good unit, just too many cavaliers in these games. She doesn't need all the items to be good, it's just that at te point you get her you already have a bunch of people in her best role.
I do enjoy using amelia because she makes a fantastic general with the general's absurd stat caps, but also realize in regular gameplay she's possibly the single worst unit in the game, or at least the single hardest to use
I think breguet was relatively easy to beat since your amelia was very strength blessed-it she was on average, she'd only be doing 2 damage per hit, and it'd be extremely hard to be able to take him down with the healing the gate provides
I would have suggested making amelia a general for the access to Garm that it gives, though great knight would also allow access to garm. But cavalier for access to swords will make the early maps much, much easier. I think paladin is what I've seen most recommended if you're doing a 'regular' run (i.e., no grinding and no overleveling type run) since the extra mov is really important, and she gets enough constitution to use most lances without too much penalty even as a cavalier
Tirado...how annoying with those great shields, wasting like an extra 2-3 charges on the armorslayer
possible future run idea-compare the different classes each unit can become, and see how they fair against each other, with the trainees having the most possible variations with 4-5 each-Ewan getting top spot with 5 possible classes: Sage, Mage Knight, Druid, Summoner, and Super Pupil
She is a fun unit to use for sure, despite her lacks in her stats.
I would have liked to try general, but that might be for a future video. And that comparison run idea is pretty good yeah! I might think about something like that.

@@kratosmvn_ Good pick on the Cav too. As funny as it would have been to see giant mech pilot Amelia (let's be real, she is piloting that, not wearing it lol), I think it would have made the second half of the game even slower, and I'm not talking about animation speed.
Lol, yeah giant Mech Amelia would have been slow in the late game due to her movement for sure.
I have always liked Paladin Amelia. Even when I first played Fire Emblem, I hated that knights were only 4 move, so they didn't get used much until I played Roy Story, where Bors is actually pretty helpful sometimes. He still got dumped eventually though because I love using both Christmas Cavs.
Yeah, in the later stages of the game justifying low movement knight/general can be really hard as the size of the maps increase by a lot.
Ponytail sprite is best sprite. Except for Lynn but that's a different game.

I love this series because I'm currently playing through this game for the first time and this basically convinced me that there's no wrong answers as far as who I choose to level up and promote.

Only Cavaliered Amelia once and with the overabundance of mounted units at your disposal, she fell by the wayside for me in that run.
It's harder to justify her in comparison to the other cavs in a regular run for sure, unless they turned out terrible or all died.

I thought her strength growths were a little higher. Even then, i had no doubt.
Yep, they are pretty low, but you're right it didn't end up mattering at all.
Last time I played I ended up with 5 strength as a lvl 20 cavalier, so +1 strength in 29 levels. Had to double energy ring her just to hit 10 strength at promotion, which was a shame because on that run she'd maxed speed/skill and had 15/12 def/red and good luck, she just got absolutely no strength growths and would pancake against high def enemies doing 0 damage
I think you should do someone like Colm or Naomi next.

Ive been waiting for Amelia for months, she's been my favorite character since the game came out!!!
I'm usually a big fan of movement, but for solo runs I think the higher stats and Axe availablity on Generals seems probably better towards the end.
That's for sure, the Axe and Stats are far more valuable for consistency but with how slow the start was I was looking to maybe make up some time here.

Took me so long to get correctly, but arguably I managed to get somewhat lucky cause it could have gone on for much longer.

Btw when fighting Draco Zombies in the final chapter, they only have 5 move. So with any class that has >=8 move post-boots, instead of healing right next to it after the chip enemy phase and hoping for a dodge on the next enemy phase, you could get out of its range while healing, then kill it the next turn with the sacred weapon, guaranteeing only one healing item used.
Obviously doesn't work when you need two turns of chip (like this run with no crits). But if you get a crit with the first chip (like your first run of the final chapter, and presumably many of the later failed attempts before you ditched the strat), it means you're guaranteed a 1 healing item kill :)

I remember playing Sacred Stones for the first time and was unaware of the "Amelia bad" meme. Turned her into a Knight; she had more Strength than a Berserker Ross and more Speed than a Swordmaster Joshua.
Hahaha, that's what makes Fire Emblem fun. No matter how statistically "bad" a unit is. You can always make any unit you like work!
For as much as people hate on Amelia, I fully expect her to be excellent in this run since it removes her one massive issue: Getting her as a level 1 trainee so late. After the first map or two it should be completely smooth sailing as far as solo runs go.

It turns out you were slowed down, not by Amelia's movement speed, but by the low strength cap of Paladin. I'd like to see you try it again as General or Great Knight to see if the extra strength makes a difference.
I think the movement on map would have made it a wash at the end of the day because in the mid game maps I saved a lot of time. I may revisit this in the future, but we'll see then and there.

I liked her stats which were usually quite decent and her design is just knights kiss.
I think she can turn into a more than respectable unit it just depends on the context of your run.

I didn't really think about the super trainee route, but I think the big "problem" there would be the con being a slight thing lower, but even then I think it could still be fun to try.

An important thing to consider when looking at recruit growths is because they get 9 more level ups a 35% growth over 47 level ups is comparable to 43% growth on a regular character.
This doesn't always make up for recruit base stats, and does nothing to make up for the time investment grinding mid game recruits up, but its easy to lowball a recruit when comparing lower base stats and 'lower' base growth rates.

I’m not sure how useful it is now though, with you having finished with Franz, Amelia and the Christmas calv. And while it is a good idea, I would be disappointed if you do a run were Seth would be the on cavalier to not face the Zombie Dragon.

I'm struggling to find more bad characters because so many in Sacred Stones end up in similarish stat spreads if you level them up and collect the stat boosters. Rennac has low growths, a swordlocked class that isn't very good and not great bases either, but he uniquely comes with the Member Card that allows him to pay to win by just buying all the stat boosters to cover his deficits. He'll still need an option for ranged attacks in the Gorgon Chapter though.
Rennac will be an interesting run. I do have a bunch of ideas for future runs of characters that are too similar to another. To be fair, if the run itself seems like almost a repeat of another character the onus is on me as the creator to make it an interesting story for the viewer nonetheless, so hopefully I can keep interesting for y'all ;)
IIRC stat booster items can't be bought until creature campaign.
I love Paladin Amelia, but I always felt like that build worked best when you've a team of epic characters around her. Pair her with Ross, Joshua, and Lute and you've got yourself an absolute killer team.
Yeah she comes in way more clutch when well surrounded by a hard carry unit.
I'm currently doing an Amelia only run myslef and on the last two maps... I was wondering if using the Convoy to bring in extra weapons (because OMFG the enemy spam on the last maps means you have a danger of running out of weapons) and support items like Torches, Chest/Door Keys, Pure Waters, etc. because most of the monsters aren't hard it's just that there is a lot of them (and there were a lot of enemies in throne room in the Survival Dark palace w/e its name was).
You say I can use stuff from other units that have to be on the map with me because they show up as reinforcements, or are mandatory. Characters like Ephraim/Erikia can get items in gaiden chapers meant for them. I notice you said the vulnerary/elixirs per doesn't apply to units that come with them. Where would you draw the line at?
Also if I have a 2 remaining uses on a vulnerary/elixir and you get a 1 remaining use emaining uses vulnerary/elixir, would you have an objection to that, seeing that healing items are 3 uses by default?
Just a suggestion, to make the Prologue/first half of Chapter 1 may I suggest also hacking in a Angelic Robe and Dragonshield, seeing you get those items in the chapter right before you can recruit her in a normal game,? I think people recruiting Amelia to use her would use those items so it wouldn't be out of line.
The no-convoy rule is strictly for potions and elixirs, I personally allow myself to grab extra weapons cause Chapter 20 and 15 would be the worst for sure.
I usually allow trading the vulnerary / elixirs from other units to the characters if they show up as reinforcements. I try to keep it as a last resort, but it is allowed.
Yes, you can use 2 healing items if one has a single use and the other has two, as long as it totals to a full one.
I personally don't like hacking in extra stat boosters. Yes, it makes it all easier, but I'd rather get to them naturally.

I don't supposed putting in the Angelic Robe and Dragonsheild would be okay if the first instances of them appearing where edited out/replaced with lesser items (like small amount of gold or gem)? Only reason I'm asking when doing another run to avoid the RNG fest that is the Prologue. (Or better yet, have a fort instead of a forest area, actually I think I will check that first).
Okay... I went back and rethought how to make Prologue and Chapter 1 less RNG. In the prologue I put a fort where the forest section was and put the forest section in the far corner (not to mess with the aesthetic of the map. I also took one of Franz's vulneraries and gave it to Seth (that wound Valthier gave him hurt more than it looks). So you have an vulnerary and a Fort to make the Prologue a lot for survivable. Chapter 1 i set all the enemies initally on the map to "Do not move" to stop them from attacking Franz and Gilliam so that 1) Amelia can affectively solo them, and 2) there is less need to have Seth or Franz rush over to Amelia in the middle of battle to hand her Iron Lances and Vulneraries so the enemy doesn't engage them instead of Amelia. This is made so there is less "fiddling" to keep the other ally units out of the way and i can focus on the tactical soloing. @@kratosmvn_

Cavalier/Paladin Amelia goes against literally everything I stand for, but… If optimization is key, it is an acceptable decision to make. That sheer skill issue from Tirado has to be the spirit of Armor Lovers everywhere punishing you for your choice though.

If you visit the house she leaves the torch in with Erika she gets recruited in chapter five.
That would boost her up as an interesting project unit for sure.

Something you could consider to factor in or add in a "scientific" list would be time per turn, so you could more easily put a finger on how many turn were actually just Waits or something similar 😊 Overall fantastic videos tho, finally catching up ❤
