For the record, the Runesword "glitch" is technically not a glitch, or even an exploit. It's RNG manipulation, which even the most hardcore of speedrunners don't consider a glitch or exploit. Also, this Colm reminds me of my first Colm, who was an absolute UNIT of a fighter. I never got a Colm like him again, but glad to see Colm get his day in the limelight.
The first time I decided to level up colm, I got him to 18 strength at level 20 thief and thought he was gonna be the best unit in the game until I leveled his strength twice
Sooo, alternate strategy for that first knight boss; couldn't you have just stalled him out? Unequip your sword, get hit, run to fort to heal, rinse and repeat until his weapon breaks, your sword attacks stop getting -1 damage so you can outpace his healing. Obviously, this would tank the turn ranking, but it should be impossible to fail at least, and wouldn't even need Franz's vulneraries. Looking forward to that Marisa run.
25:15 Since you asked me so kindly: I do agree with the use of this glitch, just to get a single, specific weapon like this. For what i personally care, this could happen to you once, at the very first visit of the Valni Tower. I am more than willing to spare you the insane amount of RNG, time and boredom in exchange.

On the Sword thing, I think you have only 2 realistic options: 1. Use the Glitch and have some set time penalty for it, or 2. Remove the Gorgons that softlock sword locks. It's not the unit's fault the game wasn't designed around soloing it after all, and if you wanted to streamline things, removing the Gorgons that cause the problem would make it so every unit can do the map without issue. Though personally I think just deciding a reasonable time penalty and getting the Runesword is the more reasonable way of doing things.
Expectation: This will be fun. Especially since we didn't have a swordmaster yet, seeing a low strength high speed unit will be interesting. He might be comparable to Tana, but with terrible strength growth
But can you beat The Sacred Stones with only Lyon? You only get him when the story is done and you've beaten the postgame 10 times, so he never really gets a chance to shine.
Recently got really into your solo runs and fired up sacred stones again. Loved it but sadly my colm didnt get great growths but i did get an absolutely crazy Eirika
I have slowly been becoming a colm fan as of late because he does not let anything hit him. Neimi sounds straight up impossible. Maybe a nice ewan run to finish up the trainee's would make it less stressful XD

The dual unit run sounds like a really good way to play with an archer. 2 archers could be interesting with Neimi + Innes. Or you could allow the second unit to serve as a shield. Like Seth with 0 weapon ranks and max Con to disable rescue shenanigans.
ayooo! I've been looking forward to this one. I love Colm, those animations and his dodgyness is so good. I feel like those low caps especially in strength I think really hurt him. I hope you're able to figure out Neimi, I love the archers but I can imagine how tough that is
There are only a few characters who can't solo the game : - Tethys : for obvious reasons - Myrrh : by technicality, as you can never have enough dragonstone uses with hacks - Moulder & Natasha & L'Arachel : for obvious reasons unless allowed to be promoted from the get go - Iness : has no 1 range option and will end up getting surrounded, soft locking the map Only 2 characters are in a gray area imo. - Rennac : just a worse Colm when leveled. He can technically succeed but needs to be RNG blessed beyond belief - Neimi : unlike Iness, she gets access to a 1 range option, eventually. Ranger is the only way but is it even possible to not only beat chapter 6 as an archer but also in time to get the Orion bolt? It will be interesting to find out

the Eirika run being the first one was a big factor, but another one was the need to take things extremely slow in the mid game maps as the promo was only available at Chapter 16
Hey, just found your channel but I love the content, This is one of my favorite games ever even though I once lost my berserker ross using the brave axe with 99% hit chance and enough damage to one shot them, against an npc that had 0% chance to hit 1% to crit with a brave weapon and required both crits to kill him by missing all 4 hits on my turn and 2 on theirs then they double crit... fun lol
To be honest, I was pretty sure a thief with some luck on strength could win the game. With a bit of luck early on, they always become one of my best units.
It was shocking how well Colm actually did against the bosses, like he kind of destroyed most of them. I will say that Colm is very underrated, he's actually amazing if you look at it from him being a thief, which tend to be useless in combat, Colm can actually do things and the Neimi support makes him a lot stronger too. I'm excited for the Neimi run now, I really think she can do it, once she becomes ranger it should be very doable, I actually think she can pull off a really solid time since she will have access to one and two range and will have two legendary weapons (If you get swords to S rank)
As others have mentioned, please don't torture yourself by not RNG manipulating the runesword. Especially if we're thinking long term, there's nothing skill based or consistent about reseting. Save your brain! Thanks for another great solo run.
A nice addition would be to put the death count after the reset count in the tier list. I’m reasonably sure it tracks in the ending screen, and it’d provide some information on how hard keeping certain units alive was.
The ending screen doesn't track your deaths, it tracks Wins / Loss which aren't determined by dying or not it's determined by I believe who got the favourable result in the combat. The only way to track deaths would be me doing it manually and it's quite tedious to do + doesn't give an accurate idea because some deaths happen due to inattention errors and such.
The funny thing I see in this is this was my first solo run, where my Colm capped all of his stats. I know he’s not the best unit in Sacred Stones, but he always is my favorite unit because of that time, and it was not his only time too.
I was gonna say that Silencer might be an absolute run-saver given what a wall the final boss can be, then I saw the text from the wiki noting the big lad is immune to it. Oh well. Now back to hoping to see mah boi Joshua laugh at the weapon triangle and call it smol.
@@kratosmvn_ Neither Natasha nor L'arachel have the ability to deal damage, until they promote and i currently do not see a scenario, where you don't have to bend the current rules somewhat, just to make a solo run with them even possible. Giving them both a monster weapon(i.e. Evil Eye), until the promotion, seems like the most practical solution to me and i would be fine with that. The early game does not offer you enough money to make healing a damaged ally a viable/reliable option. I otherwise do not know to what extend you would have to use Seth, just to find a glitchless way, until a Natasha/L'arachel solo run actually becomes a solo run.
How do you do Neimi without a 1-2 range bow like the Mini bow from later games? Becasse until you get the Orion Bolt in Chapter 6, you can get boxed in.

I wonder if it's worth it to stay in Thief for a few maps, get some of the really good steals, and then promote to Assassin. You have more than enough maps to still get 20/20.

From what you said at the end about not wanting to post the video because you didn't know how to approach Colm, and while I'm truly impressed you found a way to do it, I don't think that necessarily should deter you. You have a lot of knowledgable people in your comments section with strategy suggestions - if you feel stuck, why not show us why exactly a Neimi run is so hard. What are the points of failure? What are the obvious solutions you've tried? It'd be fun for the audience and there's a good shot somebody would suggest something you haven't thought of.
I appreciate the feedback. Honestly, what you're suggesting is something I've thought of doing for a few months so you may end up seeing that. I just have a few more ideas I'd like to test out in my back pocket before I end up making that video.
Great video, i personally don't take issue with you using this glitch but only cos its possible for you to get the rune sword in the tower of Vani it was just a matter of resting till you got and it was really just to do with tedium and time than anything else so to me its understandable why you wouldn't want to have to rest a ton of times on the chance you get the worst luck
I don't know if I'll do a side by side for those two as their gender give them actual differences in caps so it makes it less of a direct comparison than the Christmas cavs.

Sword glitch: Just do it. Theres need fo waste your time trying for something that will happen inevitably. Its sort of like rare candies for pokemon nuzlockes. Its makes for better content on streams, its makes the content Creator's life better, and, ultimately, its just a game (the CIA isnt going to come get you). So save yourself the time, do the glitch, and enjoy some free time. Great video!
The assasin attack animation is so goofy. It seems like it’s supposed to be them disappearing and stabbing the enemy in the back, but they’re still in front, so they’re just jumping with their backs to them
I have vivid memories of thr castle fog of war mission from back in like 2007. That level used to make me so angry becauwe i could nevwr keep all my guys alive and I could never stand losing a unit lol
Neimi run as a serious answer since we haven’t seen archer But what I really would like to see is a hacked run using the spear soldier unit that the enemies and allies use
chapter 9 was indeed close. but i'm curious, whether leaving colm unpromoted all the way to chapter 13 (where the body ring waits) would have been at least worth a consideration. i don't know how much luck you would have needed to survive without the promotion bonuses and the very welcome level ups coming after that. maybe it was impossible.
rng manipulation isnt considered a glitch in other speedruns ive watched, at worst it's an exploit and i think that's okay when you're putting in so much time and effort to entertain us!!
Using the trick to get a single mandatory runesword seems fine to me. Sword locked units are at enough of a disadvantage already. Also, does Demon Light hit Res? If so, that pure water could have let you take two hits from it.
hmm, continuing to use the runesword do deal damage and heal after clearing the ch 18 eggs that need a ranged weapon to hit feels a bit iffy to me. For a strict 'only use to do something that *needs* a ranged weapon to hit and nothing else' you should throw the runesword away after killing the two eggs on the cliffs. Still, nice to see the use of the runesword thing I (and probably others) mentioned as a way for sword only units to be able to solo the game and hit two 2 eggs on the cliffs in Ch 18 Neimi only run and Rennac only are going to be brutal, innes only run is probably also going to be pretty unpleasant since he doesn't even have the option of getting a 1 range weapon like neimi does since she can (and usually should) go ranger for her promotion, though if you do manage to get through the early game with neimi she does get the orion bolt pretty early in chapter....6 I think? If you manage to save all the NPCs from the spider in the mountains, so she's like mages that can get a really early promotion if things work out well for them. I'm not sure if Natasha or Moulder are even possible as solo runs since they aren't even capable of attacking until they promote, though i suppose you could give them an evil eye weapon for them to use to attack until they promote, then switch to using whatever magic type they get, or maybe go for a gimmick run like having natasha be a bishop that uses dark magic as a lark. I suppose that's an option for them both as well-give them 2 stones as starting weapons to get D rank dark magic, and then have them with 1-2 flux tomes so they can attack properly after getting D rank dark magic-they could be put in the same category as myrrh since she had to have a modified run to be able to clear the game

@@kratosmvn_ At first sight, I wanted to say how lucky you are but it feels like your luck runs out in the early chapters lol. After that the level up is not that good anymore, especially the skill stat that makes the ability of the silincer difficult to trigger lol.
By far one of my favorite series on YT! One thing I have been thinking of for a while is how units are ranked at the end. Resets are pretty big imo, usually being done to fix a major issue. I.E. Lute, who despite being on of my favorite characters in SS, needed to be reset twice because of her stats. You had to re-roll for a specific level up to beat Formortis. That is a HUGE flaw in the character, and shows that you Can't beat SS unless you hit that stat. VS Kyle, Amelia and Franz who, while maybe took more turns and were slower, didn't need resetting and could do it in one shot. I am unsure if Colm needed a full reset or just the map restart to get the strength level ups to beat Breguet, so he might be included. As much as I hate to say it, Lute would be in last place, with everyone having 0 resets would be at the top. I look forward to a Neimi video, and even though you already did Colm, a duo run would be interesting to see how much faster they go together.

The first reset was because I ran out of fire tom and Lute being my first magical unit I was figuring out how to solve that issue, which I go over in the Artur run, so I don't fully hold it against her and more on me figuring out my stride with these runs. The second reset, was yes linked to her stats, but also it was very avoidable because I tried to galaxy brain it a little too much with Ivaldi, when I could have simply S-rank anima which was clearly the best choice. So that one, to me is a little bit on Lute because it shows that she didn't have the stats to do it with any of the two tomes, but it was also a question of just me not making the right decisions. So, I don't fully hold it against her, plus the newer runs have the luxury of me having done it almost 15 times now so it's a little easier for those runs to stand out without resets since I make less errors now (I still make some, but still). Nonetheless, I appreciate your comment and will take time to reevaluate the rankings a little bit when time comes.
Colm may not be the best unit ever, but i love the guy. Right alongside Neimi. Thankfully, i tend to just play modernized mods of fe8 nowadays and the sword locked classes get love in those lol.

To be honest, I was pretty sure a thief with some luck on strength could win the game. With a bit of luck early on, they always become one of my best units.
The great speed growth really makes it a strong unit overall.

It was shocking how well Colm actually did against the bosses, like he kind of destroyed most of them. I will say that Colm is very underrated, he's actually amazing if you look at it from him being a thief, which tend to be useless in combat, Colm can actually do things and the Neimi support makes him a lot stronger too. I'm excited for the Neimi run now, I really think she can do it, once she becomes ranger it should be very doable, I actually think she can pull off a really solid time since she will have access to one and two range and will have two legendary weapons (If you get swords to S rank)
Yeah, Colm is often underrated as a combat unit, but he can clearly do some really good stuff.
I wonder if taking deaths into account would affect the tier list.
Maybe it would help a unit with lower movement because they tend to be more bulky.
As others have mentioned, please don't torture yourself by not RNG manipulating the runesword. Especially if we're thinking long term, there's nothing skill based or consistent about reseting. Save your brain! Thanks for another great solo run.

A nice addition would be to put the death count after the reset count in the tier list. I’m reasonably sure it tracks in the ending screen, and it’d provide some information on how hard keeping certain units alive was.
The ending screen doesn't track your deaths, it tracks Wins / Loss which aren't determined by dying or not it's determined by I believe who got the favourable result in the combat. The only way to track deaths would be me doing it manually and it's quite tedious to do + doesn't give an accurate idea because some deaths happen due to inattention errors and such.

The funny thing I see in this is this was my first solo run, where my Colm capped all of his stats. I know he’s not the best unit in Sacred Stones, but he always is my favorite unit because of that time, and it was not his only time too.
I was gonna say that Silencer might be an absolute run-saver given what a wall the final boss can be, then I saw the text from the wiki noting the big lad is immune to it. Oh well.
Now back to hoping to see mah boi Joshua laugh at the weapon triangle and call it smol.

@@kratosmvn_ Neither Natasha nor L'arachel have the ability to deal damage, until they promote and i currently do not see a scenario, where you don't have to bend the current rules somewhat, just to make a solo run with them even possible.
Giving them both a monster weapon(i.e. Evil Eye), until the promotion, seems like the most practical solution to me and i would be fine with that.
The early game does not offer you enough money to make healing a damaged ally a viable/reliable option.
I otherwise do not know to what extend you would have to use Seth, just to find a glitchless way, until a Natasha/L'arachel solo run actually becomes a solo run.
How do you do Neimi without a 1-2 range bow like the Mini bow from later games? Becasse until you get the Orion Bolt in Chapter 6, you can get boxed in.
That's the main point where the issue arises after Chapter 6 I honestly think the issues will be down to a minimum.

About Silencer: the Chance of activation is 1/2 of your Crit OR your character level, i dont recall rn which one but its one of those 2.
The activation is 50% of the time you get a crit

I wonder if it's worth it to stay in Thief for a few maps, get some of the really good steals, and then promote to Assassin. You have more than enough maps to still get 20/20.
It could be worth it, but the good steals usually are out of the way which means adding more fighting on his path so it might be a little risky.

From what you said at the end about not wanting to post the video because you didn't know how to approach Colm, and while I'm truly impressed you found a way to do it, I don't think that necessarily should deter you. You have a lot of knowledgable people in your comments section with strategy suggestions - if you feel stuck, why not show us why exactly a Neimi run is so hard. What are the points of failure? What are the obvious solutions you've tried? It'd be fun for the audience and there's a good shot somebody would suggest something you haven't thought of.
I appreciate the feedback. Honestly, what you're suggesting is something I've thought of doing for a few months so you may end up seeing that. I just have a few more ideas I'd like to test out in my back pocket before I end up making that video.

Great video, i personally don't take issue with you using this glitch but only cos its possible for you to get the rune sword in the tower of Vani it was just a matter of resting till you got and it was really just to do with tedium and time than anything else so to me its understandable why you wouldn't want to have to rest a ton of times on the chance you get the worst luck

The assasin attack animation is so goofy. It seems like it’s supposed to be them disappearing and stabbing the enemy in the back, but they’re still in front, so they’re just jumping with their backs to them

But what I really would like to see is a hacked run using the spear soldier unit that the enemies and allies use
chapter 9 was indeed close. but i'm curious, whether leaving colm unpromoted all the way to chapter 13 (where the body ring waits) would have been at least worth a consideration. i don't know how much luck you would have needed to survive without the promotion bonuses and the very welcome level ups coming after that. maybe it was impossible.

Using the trick to get a single mandatory runesword seems fine to me. Sword locked units are at enough of a disadvantage already.
Also, does Demon Light hit Res? If so, that pure water could have let you take two hits from it.
Demon King attacks hit defense! Which is why sometimes Lyon can be a bigger hurdle than the actual final boss *looks at Gilliam*
hmm, continuing to use the runesword do deal damage and heal after clearing the ch 18 eggs that need a ranged weapon to hit feels a bit iffy to me. For a strict 'only use to do something that *needs* a ranged weapon to hit and nothing else' you should throw the runesword away after killing the two eggs on the cliffs. Still, nice to see the use of the runesword thing I (and probably others) mentioned as a way for sword only units to be able to solo the game and hit two 2 eggs on the cliffs in Ch 18
Neimi only run and Rennac only are going to be brutal, innes only run is probably also going to be pretty unpleasant since he doesn't even have the option of getting a 1 range weapon like neimi does since she can (and usually should) go ranger for her promotion, though if you do manage to get through the early game with neimi she does get the orion bolt pretty early in chapter....6 I think? If you manage to save all the NPCs from the spider in the mountains, so she's like mages that can get a really early promotion if things work out well for them. I'm not sure if Natasha or Moulder are even possible as solo runs since they aren't even capable of attacking until they promote, though i suppose you could give them an evil eye weapon for them to use to attack until they promote, then switch to using whatever magic type they get, or maybe go for a gimmick run like having natasha be a bishop that uses dark magic as a lark. I suppose that's an option for them both as well-give them 2 stones as starting weapons to get D rank dark magic, and then have them with 1-2 flux tomes so they can attack properly after getting D rank dark magic-they could be put in the same category as myrrh since she had to have a modified run to be able to clear the game

Runesword trick is 100% allowed and should be abused in my opinion. Its the only real way to actually have a good sword unit in Sacred Seth. Hope you abuse the sword more for the worse thief Rennac

How many resets do you need to get 9 Strength in Ch-2, I can't imagine? Not to mention having to bet on RNG to kill the boss knight lol.
I luckily got it after 4 or 5 tries it wasn't that bad, but I got really lucky.
@@kratosmvn_ At first sight, I wanted to say how lucky you are but it feels like your luck runs out in the early chapters lol. After that the level up is not that good anymore, especially the skill stat that makes the ability of the silincer difficult to trigger lol.
By far one of my favorite series on YT! One thing I have been thinking of for a while is how units are ranked at the end. Resets are pretty big imo, usually being done to fix a major issue. I.E. Lute, who despite being on of my favorite characters in SS, needed to be reset twice because of her stats. You had to re-roll for a specific level up to beat Formortis. That is a HUGE flaw in the character, and shows that you Can't beat SS unless you hit that stat. VS Kyle, Amelia and Franz who, while maybe took more turns and were slower, didn't need resetting and could do it in one shot. I am unsure if Colm needed a full reset or just the map restart to get the strength level ups to beat Breguet, so he might be included. As much as I hate to say it, Lute would be in last place, with everyone having 0 resets would be at the top.
I look forward to a Neimi video, and even though you already did Colm, a duo run would be interesting to see how much faster they go together.

On the topic of Lute's resets. The first reset was because I ran out of fire tom and Lute being my first magical unit I was figuring out how to solve that issue, which I go over in the Artur run, so I don't fully hold it against her and more on me figuring out my stride with these runs. The second reset, was yes linked to her stats, but also it was very avoidable because I tried to galaxy brain it a little too much with Ivaldi, when I could have simply S-rank anima which was clearly the best choice. So that one, to me is a little bit on Lute because it shows that she didn't have the stats to do it with any of the two tomes, but it was also a question of just me not making the right decisions. So, I don't fully hold it against her, plus the newer runs have the luxury of me having done it almost 15 times now so it's a little easier for those runs to stand out without resets since I make less errors now (I still make some, but still).
Nonetheless, I appreciate your comment and will take time to reevaluate the rankings a little bit when time comes.

Why do u have to kill the 2 eggs that require a 2 range weapon to kill?
The map is a rout map meaning you have to kill all the enemies to beat it.
Colm may not be the best unit ever, but i love the guy. Right alongside Neimi. Thankfully, i tend to just play modernized mods of fe8 nowadays and the sword locked classes get love in those lol.
