This is making me want to play Sacred Stones again. And now I have some new ideas to try. Like I never even thought about Sage Moulder since I always just go bishop without even thinking about it. It might not be better but I like the idea and it adds to a more unique run. Might try either all classes/units I rarely use, or maybe try a randomizer and go full chaos mode by shuffling classes around. Thanks for another reason to play my favorite game in the series!
Neimi is in the unfortunate state where she is the only bow unit for a while until you get Innes, so you would think she could fill a niche by shooting down fliers, the problem is that there are no fliers at all on Sacred stones early game so her ONE niche gets invalidated. I guess she can use the balista on chapter 8... Still prefer her over Innes because i like mounted bows
Hmm I personally don't like Neimi at all... her base stats are horrible and I don't really think her growths compensate it. You have to babysit her a LOT and even if she gets some levels she's just not that impressive. You could use some stat boosting items but there are other units that benefit from them so much more... I just don't see a reason to use her at all, Innes can at least be decent when he joins.
@@gustavonogueira6293 i... never wanted to argue against that, i just don't like Innes as a unit, and i always end up with good Neimi's in my playthrough's so that's part of why i train her, never said she was better than Innes, but I think she is more fun than him
Great video! I was really surprised by some of the placement given that I rarely play this game very fast or with Warp staff strats, but all of it makes a lot of sense in my book when looking at it from that angle. I'm always happy to see great Sacred Stones content so keep it up! :D PS: You made me want to try a 0% growth run with the gameplay in the corner lmao
I'm playing through FE8 for the first time (was introduced to the series through Fates) and I'm honestly happy to see all but three of the main units I'm using in D tier or lower :) I'm playing the Romhack "The Sacred Trilogy" though, which doesn't seem to change any of the over-arching ways the game works, but changes enough that the tiering in it would probably be totally different (other than Seth). example: Lute is super useful for me because all Wind tomes are 2-3 range, and Natasha is my main staffer because she has a personal skill that reduces damage taken by everyone adjacent to her by 3. Not sure why Gwillem seems so crazy good though, but he's gained a fair bit of speed and is doubling more enmies than double him, on top of being seemingly indestructible.
I will always be an Amelia defender off of personal character appeal alone. I don't care that she sucks, I don't care that I have to baby her, I _want_ to baby her because she is my blorbo anxious conscript who has no idea what she's doing on a battlefield fighting for a cause she hates, and giving her confidence by turning her into a proper heroine for my own side of the conflict is pure ludonarrative harmony. It is what the entire FE series is about, that's what I play those games for, whooo!
The trainees are super fun! I use Ewan in most of my playthroughs, and L'arachel is one of my faves too. I like talking about unit strength, but it's not meant to discourage anyone from using the units they like using
The beautiful thing about Amelia (and the other growth characters of FE8) is that grinding isn't a nightmare. 20 minutes and 2 Javelins in the Tower of Valni and she's fixed. They're so fun to grind and use unlike a certain half-dragon Shaman from Nabata. 👀
Trash units like recruits are a good game design, imagine if all units are balanced ? So boring and non sense , how a archer who live on a Forest and never was military training before be strong has Seth or the cavaliers ? They are soldiers and his jobs are only one, protect the realm. I like the axe units don't have Soo much speed and skill , the logic is perfect, axe are heavy and they fight like animals, swing a big axe like a viking.
God willing, we will one day find a challenge mode that makes Amelia useful on her own terms. We were able to find one for Ross (0% Base strength and growths), one for Ewan (0% growths), one for Syrene (Triangle Attack), and even one for Marisa (Assassin crit-fishing). Surely we can find one for her, too.
I know in my heart that Erika is bad, but I somehow always end up with a really cracked one. I don't think I've ever had an Erika with less than +2 strength compared to her averages, and it's usually more like +3 or +4. Even then she's just another Joshua, unfortunately, but good combat and the rapier is nice, as is the horse and Sieglinde on promotion.
She's bad in her own route but on Ephraim's route she gains 9 levels completely for free, has an uncontested promo item, horse upon promotion, and triple effectiveness. These are pretty great options for a unit you have to use in the final chapter.
I will say that the main lord's convoy access and supply chains are absolutely underrated. It is unique to them, doesn't require a merchant and can be used multiple times in a single turn. This alone makes her better than a lot of the cast imo.
I would put Tana in A tier but at the bottom because of these reasons : - Contrary to Epharim route , Tana is good from the get go and comes with equip + she is a force deployment with flyinf utility and decent combat - Also , Cormag joins Chapter 13 and you have to wait for him to spawn. While Tana has 4 more chapters to work around - Tana also have great bases that help her during her joining chapter + having her + vanessa is pretty insane - Oh and same as the flying units of this game , she can tap into Wyven Knight and having two of those in your team is complete gg
Hmm, thanks for the video! I'm still on my first playthrough and I'm afraid of just spamming Seth every mission just in case I need other strong units for the later levels, plus it's more entertaining to me to try to use all the units I can. However, I appreciate this video because of your confidence when talking about the game, makes it seem like I have less to be afraid about. Thanks!
Don't stress too much about it! Sacred Stones is a pretty friendly game, I would just use the units you like in a first playthrough :) Hope you enjoy your playthrough! Sacred Stones is my favorite in the series and there's always something special about a first playthrough
I mean even without efficient warp strategies, Warp is absolutely busted. People for a long time have been rating units improperly and they're kinda figuring it out. Aside in what a unit can provide in combat and playspeed, it's really a question of what sort of tool kit a unit offers in order to solve the issue at hand. It's about the items, weaponry, staves and who is able to make use of the most notable tools to progress. As a result, over time, those who can make use of the best items in their respective game and generate value as a byproduct of their relationship with such tools, will naturally surface as the best characters due to their unique contributions in problem solving. I expect sooner or later, the community will finally understand the need to focus on problem solving through inventory options, rather than considering the unit first. Example, early game into late game, its no secret in FE8, that Hand Axes and Javelins are some of the best problem solving tools, as they allow you to respond in enemy phase no matter what. We've been using bases and growths to value a unit over another for a really long time, but really, if one unit is solving the same problem as another it becomes a matter of, who does this at less of an opportunity cost. That's what efficiency leads to. What we really need is a Convoy Tier List covering problem solving impactfulness through item availability. Helping people understand what objectives are on the map or in game, and tiering these objectives along with the tools to solve them. I think we'd come to appreciate how many problems are solved with Weapons, Tomes, Staves, and which of these are the most impactful. It's the unique problem solving units that will be examined more thoroughly.
Bases are op Growths really don't matter a lot, more important is the class, this determine the movement and weapons types, fe8 enemies are weak, so if any unit can beat then, the most important stat is Movement, speed is the second most important status.
Solid tier list overall, it’s clear you know this game well. There’s just some minor changes I would make: - Franz in A - Garcia in C - Myrrh in B - Gilliam and L’Arachel in D, they don’t deserve to be on the same tier as the trash squad aka the bottom 4
@@marcoasturias8520 she’s bad sure but unlike the others she can contribute by simply being a decent staff bot at base which is more useful than anything the bottom 4 can do, maybe aside from Neimi’s chip damage in the early chapters which is good for setting up kills
i love flier rescuing lol i had an absolutely busted tana and vanessa so i used them to rescue drop ephraim and eirika at the bosses of chapter 20 and they somehow tanked all the hits
@@actuallizardoh for sure. i did eirika route through ch 16 then went back and did ephraim route for the rest of the game and tana was pretty consistently a great unit in both routes
I respect your opinions a lot, especially concerning fliers being top tier in this game; however, I do wonder why one, Ephraim and Drussel are so high, and two, why Garcia, and Knoll are D. Ephraim and Drussel suffer from lack of availability, joining on chapter 15, and will be understat’d compared to the rest of your units. Late availability hurts Ephraim especially, because he doesn’t have the chance to level up due to his absence from chapters 8-15, and one of his greatest strengths, the Reignleiff, doesn’t get a chance to shine when it’s most useful: the Midgame, with cavalry units more than apparent. All of this, and that’s not even taking account the late promotion he’s cursed with: bad unit. Drussel also faces his own issues. Drussel’s very slow, is generally out classed by the other cavalry units such as Franz, Forde, Kyle and Seth by the time he joins, and is locked to an inferior class. There is something to be said about him in Iron man’s though, as he can be a suitable replacement for the aforementioned cavalry units, but he’s still ultimately outclassed if they live. Garcia isn’t bad in a LTC setting. Garcia is a bulky heavy hitter who can take on spear users such as the many of the scary cavalry units in chapter 6, has access to early 1-2 range, can be a kill set up for the top tiers like Vanessa, and has decent bases. Garcia is not a growth unit, but he has early game utility that can’t be looked over, and certainly warrants low C tier. Knoll, in the context of a faster but not LTC play through, is actually a very nice unit to have. Knolls stats aren’t his selling point, he’s very slow and kinda hard hitting, but dies to physical units on enemy phase; however, summoners are great in this game due to the amount of BS the summons enable. You can do drop methods with summons by giving them units (summons can’t pick up units), you can use them as lightning rods for siege tomes, spells, or general fuck ups on the map, and use them as the character with the number one tile count in the game (Knoll 5 movement plus 4 summon movement). I would say in a close to LTC but not quite setting, Knoll is great because he’ll be your best option as a summoner. I again wish to say I respect any FE opinions, and on a side note think it’s really cool that the series is still being talked about so much. Your tier list is very nice, I just wish to add my own input cause I also have a passion for game and it’s series; I hope you have a great day!
Agreed with both Garcia and Knoll's analyses. Garcia's consistency in the early game cant be overlooked and thrown into D tier, and Summoners are actually so broken, they never appeared again until the Replicate command from Mechanists in Fates to do a similar thing
Yeah, giving it some more thought Ephraim and Duessal could go down to D, they are able to contribute, but not in a unique way, and they come right before warp so they just don't get to do much. Perhaps some "they're good in ephraim route" bias seeped into my rating here. I think top of D is about right for Garcia though. His early contributions are meaningful but they aren't essential or particularly long. He can kill the skeleton reinforcements in ch 4, and set up kills in chapter 5, but you're practically done with him after that besides a couple rescue drops and filler combat vs soldiers. That feels like about high D to me, maybe bottom of C if we wanted to split hairs, though ephraim and Duessal should go below him. Knoll I think entirely depends on how fast you are playing. I don't think he has much to do in most of the maps after his join. He can do a little bit in 15, he's very nice in 18, but I don't think he has significant contributions in the other maps, particularly the ones that are just skips.
Good list! I do have one big complaint though, otherwise only minor things. Knoll is good, really good. Probably not up to A, but definitely B. Summons are horribly broken. No cost, lures anything, they have massive priority for enemy attacks since they always get ohkoed, they fly. The only summoner options are ewan (needs 20 levels, at least 10 where he sucks and 10 where he's mid to bad, then still a guiding ring), and knoll, where knoll needs a guiding ring (there's both a master seal and guiding ring on his join map) and that's it. He can never do any combat and still be useful on every single map (and summoners get staves too as a bonus). He doesn't need xp, boosters, only one cheap promo item. Also ewan could probably be D honestly, the other units in E need massive invest to work and are really hard to train or aren't good even when trained. Ewan has 1-2 range the whole way and if you can just get him to summoner he's a second knoll. Tbh amelia marisa and neimi are so bad that those 3 deserve an F tier.
I think the idea is that summoners might not be as useful when playing quickly. And for what it’s worth, this D tier isn’t very low. Innes, Dozla, Syrene, and Rennac are also in that tier.
@@patrickhoberg9270 I'd say that Knoll outperforms pretty much everyone above him in D tier on the Gorgon map alone. Saying that his performance on the Gorgon map is his only chapter is also kind of missleading unless you're talking about exclusively LTC pace (which this video isn't). Summons are huge for reliability when it comes to playing somewhat quickly and Summons having essentially 11 move allows them to assist with taking and dropping units off of mountains for instance, which is also quite useful.
@@damiendristig2263 Innes is useful on Chapters 10 and 13, and Dozla is useful on Chapters 11 and 12. And Syrene might also be useful on the gorgon map.
Though I guess if you don’t care about recruiting Marisa or Cormag, there might be less for Innes to do on those chapters. And I guess maybe you don’t actually need Innes to kill those wyverns, even if he is pretty good at it. So it’s possible I was giving Innes a little too much credit at first. Still, he does at least have better availability than Knoll.
@@patrickhoberg9270 Availability doesn't matter much when you're not actively contributing in the chapter. Eirika is the most available unit in the game, but she's still bad because she doesn't actively accomplish anything and the same goes for Innes. Both Knoll and Innes do stuff for free, but the difference is that Knoll does so at 11 range without needing to fight whereas Innes does so at 8 range while needing to fight. Dozla basically amounts to the same but worse utility because Water Walking is kinda garbo on Eirika route. Syrene meanwhile actually has less availability to the point where it actually matters. Knoll is actively contributing toward every non warp skip map (and even some skips if you wanna increase reliability), whereas Syrene exists for at most two maps.
Thanks for sharing. Yeah, when I say Eirika can be pretty good after she’s promoted, I mean playing slowly. If you’re mostly just warping straight to the boss, I’m sure there’s less for her to do. Plus, having 1-2 range can sometimes help kill enemies more quickly. Still, if you’re willing to play slowly and train her, I do think she can grow out of being frail. Her average defense seems to be about as good as Franz, and her average avoidance and resistance also seem pretty decent.
@@shellpoptheepicswordmaster755 Yes, that’s what I meant. Since she doesn’t have 1-2 range, she might not be able to kill enemies as quickly as other units can.
I wish L’Arachel was better. The fact her movement is lower than it would be in other titles is disappointing. It also sucks bc you can just make Natasha a mounted healer if you so choose. L’Arachel deserved better
If you're willing to do a bit of drudgery and grind, Amelia with metis's tome given her early becomes a god walking among an army of mortals. I made her a cav and got to level 20 before promotion. She maxed her speed and strength stats at level 5 as a paladin
Moulder A while Natasha is bottom of D tier is not a choice that I think makes sense, obviously Moulder is better because of his level lead, but outside of Latona I don’t think it’s a huge boon because getting Natasha to A rank by the end of scorched sand should be well within reason, and with his abysmal luck he’s fairly limited as a combat unit. They probably shouldn’t be more than a tier apart. I would personally move Moulder down a tier and Natasha up a tier, but at the end of the day it’s your list
I always like to train Ross because he's the only Berserker you can get in the game, and Berserker is my favorite class in Fire Emblem ajdkaks (Except in Awakening, god they are UGLY in that game)
Yeh. I typically baby ross and get him to pirate in a couple chapters. He is awesome as a zerker. Also he is the reason I use his dad. I just wish Garcia was faster
I’m doing my first play through as an iron man on eirika Hard Mode. Thankfully Eirika got stat blessed but I’m doing the Innes recruitment with 5 people and no Seth 😳
before Innes/Tethys/Gerik join, I have eirika, paladin Franz that got all 20 levels before promoting, lv 10 Kyle, Lv 15 Joshua, Lv 15 Pirate Ross, and Amelia The Adorable Liability
Says he isnt gonna rate units based on LTC , basically only rates them on LTC. What a chad. Enjoyed the vid, but moulder a? I dont know about that. Also Orson Should be A Tier at least.
Moulder is a good monster effective bishop in a game that's mostly monsters, is the easiest option to get high staff rank with to warp and hammerne with, and comes super early. He's super good.
Hard disagree on Ross. He gets water walking and crit boost (if you go zerker) and atleast for me the water walking is pivotal in helping since I don’t care for the fighters. Course I just have a love for zerkers.
i personally just ban seth from myself in any playthrough of fe8. He alone trivializes an already incredibly easy game, and i dont really find fe8 fun to roflstomp my way through with him. otherwise solid tier list, i'd put saleh in a tier tho, literal free staff utility in a game where staff users tend to blow after early game. as much as i love moulder the boulder as much as the next guy.
I'm not really sure ranking other units simply due to how they compare to Seth and Moulder is really a good idea. The majority of players don't warp skip and seth solo, and this tier list seems to heavily favor that sort of fast play. Without warp skips, Moulder is more like a B tier unit imo, seeing as he's staff locked for the entire early game and most of midgame, and on promotion his offensive potential is vastly behind any other mage you'll have. I'm not saying fast play shouldn't be taken into consideration, but I don't see the point of basing these tiers off of the sole assumption that the player is playing as fast as possible. Yeah, the cavs can't compare to Seth's performance, but I'd still say any unit with a mount at base is A tier at least. Also I'd personally put Ross in C, he joins very early and can reach Level 10 pretty easily well before you unlock the tower, whereas the other trainees pretty much require it if you seriously want to use them. His damage potential is also pretty crazy.
Respectfully, the video isn't really meant to be a character guide for slower play (though maybe I'll make one of those at some point). I agree that it's not super helpful to players that aren't interested in fast play or warp skipping, that's why I established the ranking criteria at the beginning, so that people can decide whether or not that criteria is valuable to them before watching the video. I assume people that aren't interested in the criteria I'm using just won't watch the video. I don't think Moulder should be rated lower because players might choose not to use his most powerful tools. I agree that his combat is bad though, I talk about that in his ranking. If he isn't warping I wouldn't even put him in B.
@@actuallizard I guess the confusion on my end is that this video is titled as just a general Eirika mode tier list, when rather it's a tier list for a very specific way of playing the game. I don't mean any disrespect btw, I was just offering my two cents. Also with Moulder I feel like his big advantage over other staff units isn't really that big. If you train Natasha once she joins or promote one of the mages they pretty easily and realistically have A rank staves by Chapter 15. All Moulder really has over Natasha in that case is the 2 or 3 extra levels closer to promotion.
@@RobotGuy405 Moulder's advantage over Natasha is bigger than you think. He gets 2 extra maps and needs 40 less staff exp to get to warp. That's a 27% reduction compared to Natasha. There's only 2 chapters to torch spam on, and neither are terribly long. Besides those maps, Natasha's stuck on healing for weapon exp until Barrier shows up in chapter 12. But it also comes on the same map as Saleh, who just comes with C rank staves for free, and Artur has probably promoted as well, also gaining C staves. There's a lot of competition for Natasha on Eirika Route, and she doesn't do much to make a case for herself. I don't even think slower play really helps her, because if we're taking our time and grinding staff ranks, every other option is either more convenient (Moulder), or has better magic (Most of the other staff options). Other mages just aren't realistically making it to warp by 15. You get D staves on promotion, and you probably aren't getting from D-A in the 5 or 6 maps between promoting Lute and warp existing.
I'm curious how these rankings would change if you don't assume the warp staff gets used. I played this game countless times as a kid, but I didn't learn that Warp was useful until I found FETube like last year lol
I think the main change would be that the later joining combat units become better. Duessal and Ephraim have more combat they can do if you aren't warping
Seth will always be the strongest, My friends and I tried to speedrun this game and all of us just use the same strategy to boost seth to solo the whole game 😂😂😂😂😂
I think i missed, what difficulty we talking about? Also you mentioned many times promoting immediately. I was under the impression Sacred Stones wants you to not promote immediately? Thank you.
Difficulty is difficult mode I am assuming because easy and normal are 2 modes that I refuse to believe anyone plays past first playthrough, promotion time I am just assuming is level 10 because SS stat benchmarks are pretty low
Another classic " lute, natasha are far away from Artur and moulder " tier list despite doing the exact same job with a few tiny differences that don't matter
I am mostly ok with this list with 2 exceptions : Ross and Gilliam. I would put Ross in C tiers, above Colm, because while he is a "baby" unit, you can easilly farm exp on the boss from the stage following the one after you get him. Meaning he can become promote fairly early (and be better than his father in my opinion). Gilliam I would put high B, above Franz, and even low A. Sure he is an armor knight, aka slow guy, but you get him early, has decent growth and you can get him to lvl 15 by the time you get to Tirado without using the arena. Promote him to a General and he can keep pace with some of the low tiers unit while clearing the way no problem. And when you get to mid game and he began to fall back because of his lack of mobility, find the boots in the desert and you have a 7 move infantry than can take any attack and kill as easilly as Seth.
Kinda hope the 2nd part of the comment is satire tbh, Kyle has the same base hp, def, and strength as Gilliam with similar growths in all 3 but also has 4 more speed, 3 more mov, and swords, he additionally doesn't have to screw over your other units by taking exp they could have gotten instead. I mean he's just as bulky and strong but doesn't get doubled by enemies and even doubles some as well. Also having a 10 mov flier is far better than having a 7 more general.
@@twigz3214 The second part is personal experience from multiple playthroughts. I can see where you go with Kyle, but you get him a little too late in my opinion. And I never got a speedy Kyle. I never had to screw other units to level Gilliam. Even without the Arena. I tend to get a decently leveled Ross, Franz, Vanessa and even Arthur and Eirika. The only problem I have is lack of money at the begining. And I can see the appeal of a 10 move flier, even more so the one that negate all defence. But when you invest exp on a good unit that begins to fall back because off how slow it moves, and then find something that solves this problem, a 10 move flier is not that much of a gain.
Hey just wanna say you got a great voice. Bummer that you have a bad habit of slurring with your tongue to your teeth, but if you fix that youll really have something.
In 25:00 scenes, Eirika is my favourite Fire Emblem character, Because She is pretty, badass, bright, gorgeous swordsmanship princess, And that her battle stats is very awesome, Her skill and speed very high, But her strength and defense is medium and magic defense is low-mid, Maybe she's wearing awesome outfit have something to do with it(mid thick short sleeve crimson turtleneck tunic, Gold plate mail(marking Renais emblem), Fingerless Plate Gloves, Yellow mark Renais emblem cloak, White skirt, crimson long flat boots, Handing rapier), So when I play the FE 8 games, Every remember FE 8 female main character and her outfit. Eirika wearing battle outfit is cool, She didn't like wearing leggings and heavily armour, Because she like comfortable and lightly armour to easy move around, And that she can handing Shamshir, So many player remember FE 4 Ayra outfit, There are many player who think she is not Lord, But She really is Myrmidon and Swordmaster, That is awesome and nice pretty Reanis Eastern fast swordsman princess.
Eirika is Divine Samurai Lass, She only use magic sword against Magic Unit and Range Weapon Unit to self-defense attack, And that her battle outfit and handing sword make She easy avoid enemy ambush attack and enemy surround, Don't think her battle outfit is beauty, Because She already travelling all country and vanquish all enemies group unti and evil bane monsters and Demon King, When her father died, She handed father do divine peace.
I don't think SS is hard enough to warrant a tier list. L'Archel did work for me, as did Eirika herself. Meanwhile Seth turned out awful- I don't know if I just got screwed on his level ups, but he came out slower than Garcia. Slower than Garcia! And no, I didn't grind at all. Bizarre tier list for a game that was easy even when I was a kid.
Considering Marisa is basically another Joshua except with a later join time and the stat differences are frankly negligible between them, at worst she should be a tier lower and not much else. Joshua's better sure, but apart from his availability, not much better, and that availability should be what puts him one tier above her as opposed to the position here implying Marisa is significantly worse.
That availability is the difference between easily surviving and one-rounding on join and needing babying to keep up, though. It might be just one thing, but that one thing is absolutely enough to justify a significant tiering difference. Joshua can help you while Marissa needs your help.
@@Lastofthemohaggens In any other classic FE game, I would agree 100% with you. However, Marisa A: doesn't need that much help to catch up, B: is in the game where a single quick trip for her to the Tower of Valni will bring them equal on levels, and C: isn't exactly struggling to damage or kill foes on her join chapter to begin with. She frankly needs a bit of EXP directed at her and her join chapter is all she really needs to do exactly that. She needs a push, not an entire babying session to catch up. And with the Shamshir she comes with, it easily makes up the difference until she gets there, so she doesn't even need to be babied to begin with and can hold her own until she catches up. That's why while she should be a tier lower, but it should only be one tier. The availability is not so late that any and all need for what she could do is long past.
@@GameAW1 This tier list explicitly rules out grinding in the tower of valni though. It's ok to like Marissa and want to use her, but that doesn't make her good.
@@Lastofthemohaggens Even if you factor that out, again her weapon that she comes with makes her able to quickly get her levels up to catch up without any babying whatsoever. And you are not far ahead enough that her role became irrelevant while her statline and growths are frankly near identical to Joshua's with extremely minor differences across the board. To say Marisa is bad is no different than to say Joshua is bad because they are almost the exact same unit coming in at different times. She is objectively not a bad unit.
I KNOW why dancers are high tiers in these games, but i cant help but disagree with that opinion. -Dancers are generally required to be close to your army, and not as a back line support unit. It doesnt necessarily mean the front lines, but generally theyre going to be in some sort of danger a good percentage of the time. They cant defend themselves, are frail, and rely on their speed stat to dodge. If its somehow low because of rng, youre screwed. -Like in the video, dancers have low move and probably should be given the boots to keep pace with the army, but that could also be argued for any other unit thats low move (eg, healers, sages, lords, etc) -Functionally, theyre more useful for helping rescue drop and giving supports another chance to help out than giving a unit another combat turn. There are definitely situations that would be great if you could attack twice (four times if theyre fast enough), but that being said, you can just have another combat/support unit to fill that role. -Dancers that can defend themselves are mostly exempt from these critiques. (Like the 3H Dancer class for example) if they can defend themselves, I WOULD label them A or S. If they cant, like tethys, in a game where you dont really need her even on harder difficulties, shes B at most.
Saw a few people asking what difficulty I'm assuming. Meant to include that in the video, whoops! I am assuming hard mode
You said no one is unusable, prove it by doing an Orson solo of the entire game. 😜
I really like the artwork - I think it really expands upon Erika's lore. I'd probably be frail and easily duped by friends if I was high af.

Great video! I was really surprised by some of the placement given that I rarely play this game very fast or with Warp staff strats, but all of it makes a lot of sense in my book when looking at it from that angle. I'm always happy to see great Sacred Stones content so keep it up! :D
PS: You made me want to try a 0% growth run with the gameplay in the corner lmao
0% is so fun! I definitely recommend it, esp since I know you like a good challenge run 😉
I'm playing through FE8 for the first time (was introduced to the series through Fates) and I'm honestly happy to see all but three of the main units I'm using in D tier or lower :)
I'm playing the Romhack "The Sacred Trilogy" though, which doesn't seem to change any of the over-arching ways the game works, but changes enough that the tiering in it would probably be totally different (other than Seth).
example: Lute is super useful for me because all Wind tomes are 2-3 range, and Natasha is my main staffer because she has a personal skill that reduces damage taken by everyone adjacent to her by 3.
It is what the entire FE series is about, that's what I play those games for, whooo!
based
The trainees are super fun!
Trash units are fine, unusable units are not good design. Luckily in fe8, everyone is usable.
Every day I have to wake up and hear more Franzder
I would put Tana in A tier but at the bottom because of these reasons :
- Contrary to Epharim route , Tana is good from the get go and comes with equip + she is a force deployment with flyinf utility and decent combat
- Also , Cormag joins Chapter 13 and you have to wait for him to spawn. While Tana has 4 more chapters to work around
- Tana also have great bases that help her during her joining chapter + having her + vanessa is pretty insane
- Oh and same as the flying units of this game , she can tap into Wyven Knight and having two of those in your team is complete gg
Great video! Love this content and hope to see more.
Im running Sacred Stones Erika route right now and Tana and Venessa are my MVPs
Hmm, thanks for the video! I'm still on my first playthrough and I'm afraid of just spamming Seth every mission just in case I need other strong units for the later levels, plus it's more entertaining to me to try to use all the units I can.
However, I appreciate this video because of your confidence when talking about the game, makes it seem like I have less to be afraid about. Thanks!
Don't stress too much about it! Sacred Stones is a pretty friendly game, I would just use the units you like in a first playthrough :)
Hope you enjoy your playthrough! Sacred Stones is my favorite in the series and there's always something special about a first playthrough
Moulder in A in context of warp, got it. This seems heavily in favor of specific warp strats only though.
Bases are op
Growths really don't matter a lot, more important is the class, this determine the movement and weapons types, fe8 enemies are weak, so if any unit can beat then, the most important stat is Movement, speed is the second most important status.
Solid tier list overall, it’s clear you know this game well. There’s just some minor changes I would make:
- Franz in A
- Garcia in C
- Myrrh in B
- Gilliam and L’Arachel in D, they don’t deserve to be on the same tier as the trash squad aka the bottom 4
Agreed. I'd also argue
- Lute low C or at least high D
- Natasha high D
Agreed with everything but larchel. There's no way she catches up without grinding in the tower or castle.
@@marcoasturias8520 she’s bad sure but unlike the others she can contribute by simply being a decent staff bot at base which is more useful than anything the bottom 4 can do, maybe aside from Neimi’s chip damage in the early chapters which is good for setting up kills
Agreed on all this.
knoll was like a cheat code as a kid.
i love flier rescuing lol i had an absolutely busted tana and vanessa so i used them to rescue drop ephraim and eirika at the bosses of chapter 20 and they somehow tanked all the hits
Tana is one of my favorite units to use. Even in 0% I could find more things for her to do than I expected, flying is really good 😎
@@actuallizardoh for sure. i did eirika route through ch 16 then went back and did ephraim route for the rest of the game and tana was pretty consistently a great unit in both routes
Forde above cormag , duessel and myrrh 😭
I think Ephraim and Duessel can be useful in Chapter 15, can’t they? And Ephraim might also be useful in Chapters 5x and 8.
And Ephraim can be pretty good after he’s promoted. I think his average stats are even better than Seth’s.
For what it’s worth, D tier isn’t really that low. This is the same tier that has Innes, Dozla, Eirika, Syrene, and Rennac.
I don't think erika has 1-2 range
Ross becomes a beast.
Thumbnail art is iconic
Moulder A while Natasha is bottom of D tier is not a choice that I think makes sense, obviously Moulder is better because of his level lead, but outside of Latona I don’t think it’s a huge boon because getting Natasha to A rank by the end of scorched sand should be well within reason, and with his abysmal luck he’s fairly limited as a combat unit. They probably shouldn’t be more than a tier apart. I would personally move Moulder down a tier and Natasha up a tier, but at the end of the day it’s your list
There is nothing more satisfying than one-shotting Valter with a crit from Cormag.

Moulder is a good monster effective bishop in a game that's mostly monsters, is the easiest option to get high staff rank with to warp and hammerne with, and comes super early. He's super good.
Not sure that not doing what you said you were going to is "being a chad".
Ewan is probably the best unit in game if u have the right stats on his summoner
moulder as a combat unit is funny bc thanks to his absurdly low luck, i've seen him get critted by a gorgon... more than once.
My eyesight's a bit dodgy so when the video first loaded up I thought you'd put Orson in a "Sex" tier and I was gonna say "you know what? fair."

Thats fair
Berserker Ross rekts people
I'm curious how these rankings would change if you don't assume the warp staff gets used. I played this game countless times as a kid, but I didn't learn that Warp was useful until I found FETube like last year lol
I think the main change would be that the later joining combat units become better. Duessal and Ephraim have more combat they can do if you aren't warping
0:50 umm not sure about 1 unit in particular on the list
Seth will always be the strongest, My friends and I tried to speedrun this game and all of us just use the same strategy to boost seth to solo the whole game 😂😂😂😂😂

Erika can use magic!?
Hi, Vanessa should be B or C tier. Tana Should be A. Moulder should be C
How so?
@@AlexaRobin21 stat wise and functionality and playability
Trash list. Tana and Gerik are tier A (lvl maxed Gerik is easily tier S). Some units like Joshua, Eirika, and Natasha are tier B at worst.
I feel like Franz should be ranked slightly higher
@@GameAW1 "Marissa is a objectively not a bad unit" 💀💀💀💀
I KNOW why dancers are high tiers in these games, but i cant help but disagree with that opinion.
-Dancers are generally required to be close to your army, and not as a back line support unit. It doesnt necessarily mean the front lines, but generally theyre going to be in some sort of danger a good percentage of the time. They cant defend themselves, are frail, and rely on their speed stat to dodge. If its somehow low because of rng, youre screwed.
-Like in the video, dancers have low move and probably should be given the boots to keep pace with the army, but that could also be argued for any other unit thats low move (eg, healers, sages, lords, etc)
-Functionally, theyre more useful for helping rescue drop and giving supports another chance to help out than giving a unit another combat turn.
