I bought a RAT 1 on Sunday, supposed to be here tomorrow. Bought it then found a lot of videos on it. Glad I got it. $24 on Amazon, free 2 day shipping with prime.
Thanks for the video! I have to agree, Kershaw has great offerings! My top 10 under $50: 1. Kershaw Emerson CQC-6K 2. Cold Steel Recon 1 (when on sale) 3. Kershaw Injection 4. Kershaw Nura 5. Kershaw Cryo 2 6. Spyderco Tenacious 7. Ontario Rat 1 8. Ontario Utilitac 2 9. ESEE Zancudo 10. Kershaw Scrambler
Get the Ganzo g749 Flipper on ball bearings 440c under $25 has a big thick blade over 3mm. Smooth as butter deep carry pocket Tip-Up tip down right side only framelock.
I have the CRKT Fossil with the dual edge, it is extremely sharp right out of the box but very difficult to open, does not flip well, not happy with it so I've decided to use it as a beater knife so to speak, I also carry as an EDC knife a Spyderco MIlitary which is an excellent knife...
Kershaw Blur is a torsion bar assisted. I have had issues with it breaking because I've owned, and carried it for 5+ years but a simple email and they send you a new one (actually packs of 2) in a few days. Kershaw (Blur/Chive) is my EDC over just about any brand, to include Spiderco (Mantix) and Benchmade (Griptilian) and they have always been the most reliable. They made it through Iraq and Afghanistan and never had an issue. I know this video is a little old but good review nonetheless.
I absolutely love the Skyline! I would also love to have one of those carbon fiber/S30V models, but currently that isn't in the cards for me. lol Absolutely perfect EDC knife for me. Very comfortable, extremely light, great price, extremely fast deployment, takes a razor's edge... like I said, perfect for what I want in a pocket knife. I'll be sad when they are no longer available.
Not exactly my domain, but I appreciate you making videos like this! It definitely helps people get into the hobby. My recommendation: Cold Steel Recon 1 clip point. $40 on Amazon now. Can't beat the Triad lock and the fit and finish is really impressive. Plus the blades are super performers, nice and thinly ground. Budget knives are usually on the small side so it's nice to have a full size option.
Not my domain either, but after doing the ten best under $100 I got a lot of requests for this video. I think we all started with these type's of knives like you mentioned, good way to get into the hobby, or for those on a strict budget.
My faves under $50 are the Kershaw Volt SS, which I got for around $20 on Amazon. Really great EDC. Also the Kershaw Cryo II, about $35 on Amazon. Nice. And if you spend $50 on a Buck tactical knife you will get a really good knife, and guaranteed forever. That's for all eternity, dudes...
Where are you finding any blur model for under 50? I think the base models sell for $55. Also, if you’re gonna feature the rat-1, go with the D2 version instead of the AUS-8 because it easily clears the under $50 price point and is a vastly superior blade. I would’ve gone with the Byrd Raven 2 over the tenacious because CTS-BD1 > 8cr13mov. I would’ve also thrown in the steel will cutjack, the Ruike P801, and the Tangram Santa Fe.
I carry a fossil everyday and absolutely love it. Everyone that see it (that enjoys knives) has to play with it and they always want 1. Amazing knife. Haven't found anything from crkt I don't like
Great video. I really like the Kershaw / Emerson knife with the tanto blade. I'm not a big knife guy but all of these knives would be in my price range. There was a few of them that I'm going to check into possibly getting. Thanks for sharing, great information.
Thanks for making the video and the Amazon links. In this series of videos, the next would be: -10 best folding pocket knives under $40 -10 best folding pocket knives under $30 -10 best folding pocket knives under $20 I know that some of the under $50 knives on this video are also under $40 and under $30. I own a Kershaw Crown, which is a very nice knife that can be delivered to your door by Amazon for around $13. Wonder if there are any knives that are quality made that are under the $10 range?
Need some help:i would like to buy a knife and i bet i would cut my finger off with one of these as im usually not careful with knives.i was thinking about a butterfly knife but i rly hate how it looks (the holes on the handle just drive me CRAZYYY and i havent found a model without them)
You'd be more likely to cut off your finger with a butterfly knife. I'd recommend the spyderco tenacious because it is just a beast of a knife. I've carried it for a while and it doesn't quit. It's inexpensive and all around amazing. If you are careful you'll keep all you're fingers too
If Buck 110 had a baby it would be a RAT 1!!! total Tank. 5 pillar bolts plus the pivot bolt.cant say that about any other of my folders even the ergonomics are amazingly better! Just an outstanding knife!!!
Great video man. Kershaw knives sure are fine. Just acquired a Rainbow Leek. Beautiful knife. I think I'll pick up a Nura 3.5 after checking a few reviews. Then later a Blur.
I like your video, I already have a few of these knives like the Kershaw Leek, and Blur (both which have 14C28N steel and made in the USA). I would also add the CRKT Heiho and the Sog Aegis
Knives, Guns, & Gear I'm falling in love with frame locks myself. I think it may be because they have such strong lockup, generally, but also because I take my blades down, clean, sharpen, and oil them myself, and the framelocks are always easier to maintain. Fewer moving parts, essentially.
I like flipper spring assist opening knives. It takes little effort to open and you are almost 100% guaranteed a positive opening. Why would people want to disable a spring assist opening knife?
esee, ontario and spyderco are all amazing knifes, i dont have that much knowledge or experience with them all, but i think spyderco is the most longlife and durable version of a folder in that pricerange. sadly here in germany 1handed opening makes them "a weapon" so not allowed to carry, a fixed up to 12cm blade is allowed...yes we are stupid :P
Opinel make great knives, you just need to know what to use them for. For an inexpensive EDC for about $10 - $20, they are amazing quality. a #8 is a great budget blade for light duty stuff.
Not all of these knives you've shown were made in the USA. The Tenaceous, for example, is made for Benchmade by Sanrenmu ("SRM"), its Chinese contract manufacturer. SRM owns the Ganzo brand. So, given this fact, we should also include other comparable offerings like: Enlan EL-02 ($16~$20 delivered)...same steel as Tenaceous Enlan EL-01 ($13~$17 delivered)...same steel as Tenaceous Ganzo G704 ($16~$20 delivered)...440c Ganzo G710 ($17~$21 delivered)...440c
I never said anything about these knives being made in the US. Also, the tenacious is a Spyderco, not a Benchmade. Most of the knives in this video are made overseas.
Great video! It's hard to argue with any of your choices. The only surprise for me was the American Lawman, only because the Cold Steel Recon 1 would be my preference. It has the G10 scales, the Triad lock, and I love the ergonomics on it even more than the Lawman. Oh, and it's definitely under $50 on Amazon. Oh wait. I also prefer the Kershaw/Emerson CQC6 - I'm not big on the American tanto for EDC. But in both cases, those are just personal preferences on minor style details within the same line.
I like the Recon1 but prefer the ergo's and size of the Lawman for EDC. The CQC6 is also awesome, like you said just a matter of preference on blade shape.
What point do you like the best for every day use on the Cold Steel Recon 1 and why? www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dsporting&field-keywords=Cold%20Steel%20Recon%201
SanFranciscoBay I'm not sure if you're asking me, but if so, I prefer the clip point, plain edge for overall utility. It cuts and pierces well, is easy to use for woods craft, edc cutting (paper, cardboard, plastics), is ideal for last-ditch defense, and is easy to field sharpen and maintain.
Shoto Kido I was asking you "What point do you like the best for every day use on the Cold Steel Recon 1 and why?" and I believe you answered that. You said you prefer the Clip Point and gave your reasons why. Next question would be, other than their appearance, "What's the difference between the Drop Point and the Spear Point on the Recon 1? What tip would do better or worse than the other in every day use?"
SanFranciscoBay I'm not sure if you meant clip point, rather than drop point, because there is no drop point cold steel recon 1. If you mean the clip point vs. the spear point, I'm not 100% certain which is stronger at the tip. If there WERE a drop point version, my money would be on IT having a stronger tip than either a spear point or a clip point, but without some kind of testing, I don't know.
Sweet vid man. But you knocked the Ontario Rat 1 for having nylon handle scales. They are made from nylon-6 which is exactly what Glock uses for their pistol frames. Very tough and proven material. You def made me want to buy a few of these. Those Emerson/Kershaw's are pretty cool looking.
Knives, Guns, & Gear I own a Rat 1. If Ontario made the anti slip pattern on the handles coarser ie with more grip, that would make it less slippery. It's not the G10, it's the pattern on the handles that give the knife grip, correct? I also own a Rainbow Leek and it's like holding a wet bar of soap. It's very slippery, but cool looking.
If you were an inmate, and you had to choose one of these knives or any tactical folder in general to protect yourself and fend off attackers during a prison riot, Which folding Knife do you choose and why ?
+Jalene Mendez BTW I also own the CQC-7K, but for some reason, I don't know if there's a problem with mine or if they're all this way, but the opening just isn't very smooth on it, has anyone had the same problem?
Adrian Negreanu its because they use crappy teflon washers. If you can get phosphor bronze washers to replace them it's a whole other story. Also, open it up and make sure it's clean under the washers. I got one that had some grit under one washer.
A little confused because the CS American Lawman is around 80 -90bucks everwhere i look, and the Blur is around 60-80 .. Last time i checked thats MORE than fifty dollars..
+Hangtown Gunner the American lawman used to be cheaper before they upgraded the coating and the steel to cts-xhp. The blurs are only 10 more now, but this video is more than a year old. Prices do go up.
If you want a knife like the American Lawman but are willing to downsize look up the Micro Recon. Same steel, same lock, same-ish look, just a 2 inch blade. Exceptional EDC knife for about $22, it's sheeple friendly and gets the job done.
I do not care what price you state. I've carried, sharpened and lived with and by knives for over 60 years now. I rarely agree with anything any of you people say. Are you being paid to peddle junk knives. Buck Knives are still a great buy for using, carrying, and collecting.
LoCoGuitars where are you buying your knives from? That's a horrible price on that knife. Here it is on Amazon for $28 astore.amazon.com/knguge-20/detail/B00I0RQ0AO
Yeah so this video is "10 Best Folding Knives Under $50" in the USA, but in Canada it might as well be titled "10 Best Folding Knives Under $100", sure you can buy online for around $50 but everything ships from the states so that ends up adding $25+ in shipping. Getting into collecting knives and guns has made me consider moving to the US countless times. Oh well.
You obviously haven't carried that Kershaw Blur for very long, if at all. If you had you'd quickly realize that the heavily textured handles, while great for gripping, feel like 40-grit sandpaper scraping the back of your hand as you reach into your pocket for anything. Horrible design flaw.
+Knives, Guns, & Gear I have three of them myself but don't carry them for that issue. You don't find it irritating? Maybe in shorts with big pockets but with jeans- no way.
+stvbrwn8 Kershaw doesn't expect its customers to be pussies. It's obviously not a design flaw if its one of kershaw's best selling models... of all time! In order to be grippier in the hand it's coarse to compensate for its thin frame. So what if feels weird when you reach in your pocket? Cats tongues feel weird, but I still let them lick peanut butter off my nuts.
I'm older and I know what's comfortable to me- I couldn't care less what you think about it. I can't see any scenario other than a knife fight covered in oil that I'd need that much texture. Kershaw's Leek is also one of their top sellers and it's skinnier with slick slides- one of my favorite edc's. I hope you and your cat remain so close, it's hard to find that special someone.
Man you guys' knives are so cheap in America, here up north in Canada, just as an example the CQC-7K is 38$ instead of 27$. It's only 10$ difference but on a 27$ knife it's quite a bit
yeah, i'm not going "there". Buying some FarEast knives right now, but won't do it when they bear "local" names. Just give me the China name, not the diluted version of a brand. Maybe I'm odd, but I'm tired of losing "high-end" stuff and have swallowed the CC pill. Sanrenmu and Enlan to the rescue!
the guy garbles the name of the 1st knife so much I cannot understand what he is saying. the most important words are the name of each knife and its price. and he goofs it up.
if that is serious, thank you. it makes sense that I would not understand it. it's a very odd name and I never heard of it before. another reason to carefully pronounce a strange name of knife very few would have even heard of.
He didn't "goof it up"...I heard him fine. "The guy" here is a very articulate and knowledgeable knife reviewer. Your comment was negative, so just thought I'd give my opinion. This channel is awesome and will deftly guide you with your knife and gear purchases.
+Knives, Guns, & Gear anytime man. You clearly state Esee Zancudo at least 5 times. This particular video I revisit every time I'm considering a value blade purchase. What I like about your channel is that you give options from the least to most expensive with unbiased opinions. Keep up the great work man.
I bought a RAT 1 on Sunday, supposed to be here tomorrow. Bought it then found a lot of videos on it. Glad I got it. $24 on Amazon, free 2 day shipping with prime.
The brown crkt knife has a very nice feel to the handle and a big blade, I have it and I love it
I have the fossil and didn't expect it to be that smooth and almost cut myself because it also comes sharp enough to cut arm hair which was nice
It's amazing how many options there are in this price range. All solid choices.
I absolutely love my Nura 3.5. It's in my EDC rotation along with a Cryo 2 and a H&K Espionage.
Thanks for the video! I have to agree, Kershaw has great offerings!
My top 10 under $50:
1. Kershaw Emerson CQC-6K
2. Cold Steel Recon 1 (when on sale)
3. Kershaw Injection
4. Kershaw Nura
5. Kershaw Cryo 2
6. Spyderco Tenacious
7. Ontario Rat 1
8. Ontario Utilitac 2
9. ESEE Zancudo
10. Kershaw Scrambler
The CS Tuff Lite & Mini Tuff Lite should be on the table too!😈
Get the Ganzo g749 Flipper on ball bearings 440c under $25 has a big thick blade over 3mm.
One of my favorite videos that you have put out.
Thanks Ryan I appreciate it!
Surprised I'm still Allowed to watch your videos. Nice list, A lot of great knives under $50.
is it factory new? and you have no skins?
Kershaw Blur is a torsion bar assisted. I have had issues with it breaking because I've owned, and carried it for 5+ years but a simple email and they send you a new one (actually packs of 2) in a few days. They made it through Iraq and Afghanistan and never had an issue. I know this video is a little old but good review nonetheless.
What would you say between the CQC-7k and the Ontario Rat 2? Im left handed if that changes anything.
Ben cqc7. I think framelocks are easier to disengage
I absolutely love the Skyline! I would also love to have one of those carbon fiber/S30V models, but currently that isn't in the cards for me. lol
Absolutely perfect EDC knife for me. Very comfortable, extremely light, great price, extremely fast deployment, takes a razor's edge... like I said, perfect for what I want in a pocket knife. I'll be sad when they are no longer available.
Man! You made me add two more knives to my collection... Thank you. New subscriber.
chemoautotroph awesome! Great to hear.
chemoautotroph Hah! Who's ever heard of accountability?
Not exactly my domain, but I appreciate you making videos like this! It definitely helps people get into the hobby. My recommendation: Cold Steel Recon 1 clip point. $40 on Amazon now. Liking the oso sweet Kershaw knife for gutting deer
...considering the CQC-7k...sounds great
Good choices. I have owned most of those. Need to try that crkt. Looks nice
How about Ganzo knives?
Ahh I see that you gave the Rat 1&2 love, nice!
NICE list. Fully agree with you on the fossil, AMAZING action.
some great choices there mate, got most of them in the collection myself.
I hadn't seen that Nura before... looks like the Tilt kind of.
Where did you get the clip?
My faves under $50 are the Kershaw Volt SS, which I got for around $20 on Amazon. Really great EDC. Also the Kershaw Cryo II, about $35 on Amazon. Nice. And if you spend $50 on a Buck tactical knife you will get a really good knife, and guaranteed forever. That's for all eternity, dudes...

Great selection
Great video & knives, i`m already checking out some of these. Good job
Great video man! Great choices.
Maybe you could make a "how-to" video on removing the torsion bar/spring to "de"-assist assisted opening knives. THAT would be very helpful. Thanks.
What about the Ganzo G 717?! less than $20 shipped!
Great video!! Also one good knife that I suggest Is the roadeavour knife.
Thanks bud. The CQC7k is probably my favorite knife under $50.
def agree with you on rat 1
I like your vids man. Your probably the most realistic reviewer
Thanks for making the video and the Amazon links. In this series of videos, the next would be:
-10 best folding pocket knives under $40
-10 best folding pocket knives under $30
-10 best folding pocket knives under $20
I know that some of the under $50 knives on this video are also under $40 and under $30. I own a Kershaw Crown, which is a very nice knife that can be delivered to your door by Amazon for around $13.
Wonder if there are any knives that are quality made that are under the $10 range?
fixed blade edition ?
Need some help:i would like to buy a knife and i bet i would cut my finger off with one of these as im usually not careful with knives.i was thinking about a butterfly knife but i rly hate how it looks (the holes on the handle just drive me CRAZYYY and i havent found a model without them)
You'd be more likely to cut off your finger with a butterfly knife. I'd recommend the spyderco tenacious because it is just a beast of a knife. I've carried it for a while and it doesn't quit. It's inexpensive and all around amazing. If you are careful you'll keep all you're fingers too
what does edc stand for?
Excellent video!
id have to say the 8K out of the kershaw emersons is one of the best. i had my 6K develop lock rock
what would you rate the kershaw link??
Isaiah Bergel the link is awesome. I may need to do a new video as this is a but outdated
thanks just ordered it now
If Buck 110 had a baby it would be a RAT 1!!!
Kizer begleiter. It's 52 dollars and you get g10 handles with vg10 blade steel. Two bucks over but worth it.
Excellent vid brother!
I like your video, I already have a few of these knives like the Kershaw Leek, and Blur (both which have 14C28N steel and made in the USA). I would also add the CRKT Heiho and the Sog Aegis
I think the Tenacious takes it for THE BEST... That knife is bulletproof for that price range.
It is a great option, but the framelock on the CQC7k is beefy and I'd take it over the Tenacious as far as being bulletproof.
Knives, Guns, & Gear I'm falling in love with frame locks myself. I think it may be because they have such strong lockup, generally, but also because I take my blades down, clean, sharpen, and oil them myself, and the framelocks are always easier to maintain. Fewer moving parts, essentially.
What about the Emerson cqc 4?
Hey look it's me
CRKT Ryan Model 7 is also a great choice
Highly recommend the Ontario rat
CRKT Heiho...like it a lot!
what is personinally your favorite knife that is around $100
Great choices! I love my Ontario RAT, however they are super heavy, not a great EDC knife. EDC needs to be very lightweight in my opinion.
For me a few ounces doesn't bother me but for some it does, that's why I mentioned the Rat 2 as another option.
Also, I would have put the Byrd Cara Cara 2 g10 on the list but, hey, it's not my list. Thanks again for another enjoyable vid.
Cool vid man and nice choices... a bit too many Kershaws for my taste, but good ones effectively... lol. Cheers!
Boker Trance is great as well
at 12:17 is my favorite knive
I like flipper spring assist opening knives. It takes little effort to open and you are almost 100% guaranteed a positive opening. Why would people want to disable a spring assist opening knife?
SanFranciscoBay personal preference.
I'd like to hear from other people, what knives they think are the best for the under $50 range.
esee, ontario and spyderco are all amazing knifes, i dont have that much knowledge or experience with them all, but i think spyderco is the most longlife and durable version of a folder in that pricerange. sadly here in germany 1handed opening makes them "a weapon" so not allowed to carry, a fixed up to 12cm blade is allowed...yes we are stupid :P
great reviews, thank you
The blur is 60 at Wal-Mart try to get cheaper on few other sites but it was more all in all great knife
Gerber makes pretty good knives the blade steel is not good but the construction of the bodyis good.
for anyone just seeing this video (like me). The cold Steel American Lawman is no longer available on Amazon
No mention to Opinel?
Opinel make great knives, you just need to know what to use them for. For an inexpensive EDC for about $10 - $20, they are amazing quality. a #8 is a great budget blade for light duty stuff.
Ah the Rat 1. Oh how I miss mine.
Not all of these knives you've shown were made in the USA. The Tenaceous, for example, is made for Benchmade by Sanrenmu ("SRM"), its Chinese contract manufacturer. SRM owns the Ganzo brand.
So, given this fact, we should also include other comparable offerings like:
Enlan EL-02 ($16~$20 delivered)...same steel as Tenaceous
Enlan EL-01 ($13~$17 delivered)...same steel as Tenaceous
Ganzo G704 ($16~$20 delivered)...440c
Ganzo G710 ($17~$21 delivered)...440c

If there WERE a drop point version, my money would be on IT having a stronger tip than either a spear point or a clip point, but without some kind of testing, I don't know.
Kershaw link is a good EDC knife under 50 made in the USA
Sweet vid man. But you knocked the Ontario Rat 1 for having nylon handle scales. They are made from nylon-6 which is exactly what Glock uses for their pistol frames. Very tough and proven material. You def made me want to buy a few of these. Those Emerson/Kershaw's are pretty cool looking.
The knock the on nylon handles wasn't for strength, more the feel and grip of them. G10 has much better grip and a better feel.
I couldn't recommend that RAT 1 more, it's probably the best knife for the money out there
+Jalene Mendez BTW I also own the CQC-7K, but for some reason, I don't know if there's a problem with mine or if they're all this way, but the opening just isn't very smooth on it, has anyone had the same problem?
+Jalene Mendez My CQC-7K even makes some sort of grinding sound when you move the blade, it's very subtle but I can definitely hear it.
Adrian Negreanu its because they use crappy teflon washers. If you can get phosphor bronze washers to replace them it's a whole other story. Also, open it up and make sure it's clean under the washers. I got one that had some grit under one washer.
Now can someone please explain to me why people prefer usa made knives? It it an ego thing or is there an actual quality gap?
Anything made in America is the best, because it just is ;)
Fossil iS BEAST

I just bought the Spyderco Resilience Black G-10 PlainEdge Knife Price:
$47.97 amazon.com I'm impressed.
Kershaw CQC-7k $ 59.99 + shipping.

Great! Thanks! I was looking at the Kershaw official site.

Oh well.
You pay $25 in shipping from Amazon too?
+Jeff Mcfarlane never agreed with anything more than this comment right here
Amazon Prime is a magical thing now isn't it.
WOW, who knew this magical service can get past the exchange rate, taxes and import laws. amazing. can't wait to try it.
nice vid
sog flash ii is the best knife for under $50
you definitely need to get the ontario rats in that collection
You obviously haven't carried that Kershaw Blur for very long, if at all. If you had you'd quickly realize that the heavily textured handles, while great for gripping, feel like 40-grit sandpaper scraping the back of your hand as you reach into your pocket for anything. Horrible design flaw.
I carried a blur for a long time. In fact I've probably owned more variations of that knife than any other.
LOL He said "stay tuned" as if he was going to cut to a commercial.
Man you guys' knives are so cheap in America, here up north in Canada, just as an example the CQC-7K is 38$ instead of 27$. It's only 10$ difference but on a 27$ knife it's quite a bit
+The Gypsay Because your money is worth less. . .
Zentonic Online I know the reason..
Buck?
Only Buck I think is worth while is the Vantage Pro in s30v and it's over the $50 mark. The Marksman seems like a cook knife but it's closer to $100
nice
The only knife I don't like is the crkt
from 1 to 10
Don't forget about the best feature of the CQC-7K (the remote pocket opener th-cam.com/video/F8WFTiDWSME/w-d-xo.html
yeah, i'm not going "there". Buying some FarEast knives right now, but won't do it when they bear "local" names. Just give me the China name, not the diluted version of a brand. Maybe I'm odd, but I'm tired of losing "high-end" stuff and have swallowed the CC pill. Sanrenmu and Enlan to the rescue!
says "everyone needs to own a tenacious" yet he doesn't own one himself
I've owned 3 or 4 of them
+Knives, Guns, & Gear shoutout to you dude, responding to your veiwers in 3 seconds
man i lost my kershaw leek
The law man is under 1one hundred and 50fifty?
Kershaw Thermite
the guy garbles the name of the 1st knife so much I cannot understand what he is saying. the most important words are the name of each knife and its price. and he goofs it up.
Esee zancudo
if that is serious, thank you. it makes sense that I would not understand it. it's a very odd name and I never heard of it before. another reason to carefully pronounce a strange name of knife very few would have even heard of.
He didn't "goof it up"...I heard him fine. "The guy" here is a very articulate and knowledgeable knife reviewer. Your comment was negative, so just thought I'd give my opinion. This channel is awesome and will deftly guide you with your knife and gear purchases.
+Johnny Fayard thanks Johnny!
+Knives, Guns, & Gear anytime man. You clearly state Esee Zancudo at least 5 times. This particular video I revisit every time I'm considering a value blade purchase. What I like about your channel is that you give options from the least to most expensive with unbiased opinions. Keep up the great work man.
