Kirk Hammett is very good, offcorse not as good as Dime (not even close) but you still have to give him credit, remember a solo doesn't have to be complicated to sound good, you don't have to shred either. He pulled of some solos that where not only liked by metalheads but also others because he could create that emotion with his solos, it's easy to talk Shit about someone else when you know that your never gonna get that far

I'm 42, an old mteal head from high school, and pantera changed my life. That grindy, crunchy, deep chord riff Dime thrived on really spoke to me. He's easily in my top three 5 string artists of all time. Such a cool guy, salt of the earth, loved the metal scene and perfecting his craft...such a tragedy. I wished he lived to 100. RIP Dime, the ones that love you miss you. Thank you for the music.
I remember like it was yesterday it was February 2005 and I was 12 on a train ride with my grandma up to Ottawa to see family. We were stopped in Toronto and she gave me 20 bucks to buy a magazine for the trip. I’d been playing guitar for a few years and saw this Guitar World with this guy with a pink beard and a crazy lightning bolt guitar on the cover. It was a Dimebag tribute issue he’d been killed only 2 months before and I picked it up. Spent the whole time reading about his life and career with Pantera. When I returned home I went right to the record store and picked up Reinventing The Steel, threw it in my Walkman (because they were still around) and my life was never the same. Spent the next 2 years completely immersed in Pantera’s music and the life Dimebag lived. He was just the embodiment of what a musician and a rockstar is. What a monster player.
The confidence he shows at 1:03 putting the pick in his mouth then those quick slides then points at his guitar like yea I just did that then quickly grabs the pick from his mouth and finishes the solo. Incredible
Soloing was Dimebags forte. Sure there are a lot of guitarists who are fast, and there are those who could play with a lot of feeling, but not many could do both and combine the 2. he makes the guitar sound like it's going to explode or melt, he had that much intensity. The guitar was an extension of his personality. Nobody could shred like Dime could. There are some that are close like Jeff Loomis, or Jeff Waters of Annhilator,, his buddy Zakk Wylde,but dime had that edge I was reading that there were only 3 guitarists who had made musical instrument stores sell electric guitars like hotcakes. And they were #1 Jimi hendrix #2 Eddie Van Halen and #3 Dimebag Darrel Abbott
This man didn't just play awesome riffs, but made you feel something special in your heart and soul. This is what truly makes him a guitar God. R.I.P. Dime and Vinnie. We still love and miss you both!

I've been playing guitar for 30odd years now and have never really listened to dimebag but obviously known of him. Don't know what brought me to one of his videos but last week started to educate myself into all things "dimebag!!!" All I can say is WOW..... Normally not the style of music I listen to but I'm sorry it took me till I was 53 to get here. A pure innovative and creative musician and the word that jumps out of every video is FUN!!!! A small word for a huge character always with a smile on his face. I've got a whole new world of music and guitar playing coming into my life at a time when I desperately need it,as I have got back into music and guitar playing in a big way to keep myself busy as I have just finished a methadone withdrawal. For the first time in over 30 years my body is drug free (apart from cannabis and the odd beer!!) I've been playing guitar for 30odd years now and have never really listened to dimebag but obviously known of him. Don't know what brought me to one of his videos but last week started to educate myself into all things "dimebag!!!" All I can say is WOW..... Normally not the style of music I listen to but I'm sorry it took me till I was 53 to get here. A pure innovative and creative musician and the word that jumps out of every video is FUN!!!! A small word for a huge character always with a smile on his face. I've got a whole new world of music and guitar playing coming into my life at a time when I desperately need it,as I have got back into music and guitar playing in a big way to keep myself busy as I have just finished a methadone withdrawal. For the first time in over 30 years my body is drug free (apart from cannabis and the odd beer!!) Gonna dive down the rabbit hole this weekend and come out with a couple of songs that I'm gonna learn and enjoy 👍🤯🇬🇧🇺🇸 7:51
