I got to spend time with him one day in the early 90. All day. Before and after the gig. I was with the opening band at Annie's in Cincinnati. He called me bro a few times that day. That meant everything to me then but even more now. We talked about his rig and he wanted my brothers 69 Marshall cream color cabinet that he wouldn't let go. Dime said a have a blank check just name the price brother. He treated us with so much respect. We gave that in return. I went to his grave not long after he was murdered. It was just me him and the sun going down. I told him he didn't deserve to go out like that and I loved him. I drank a beer then poured him one out. I smoked a joint and left one on his grave. I never was into Pantera. I’ve heard “Walk” maybe ten times but that’s about it.
But from Darrel’s lessons he wrote for guitar world. (I think) His personality came through on paper, so I always read his articles because I liked his attitude. Though I never sat down with a guitar and took in his “guitar lesson” what I did learn from him is to check my attitude.
“What you habitually think largely determines what you will ultimately become”…..
So I “TRY” to lose the negative thoughts and only focus on the positive. Because it’s easy to become depressed from all the negativity we’re constantly being fed. So choose the positive. You have a choice. You are master of your attitude, so choose the positive and the constructive view.
Optimism is the faith that leads to success and happiness.

Hour long video but shit I loved every second. Dimebag was one of a kind and seems to have been the coolest fucking dude ever. Also awesome hair.

I just turned 13 years old when Vulgar Display was released. I remember obtaining a new cassette, opening it, smelling the plastic, carboard sleeve, and ink. I remember seeing the colored pictures inside with their names. I remember seeing Dime's picture and thinking this is the guy who is on guitar, and still didn't think he was real. Their music was a big part of my teenage years. Memories that I'll treasure until the day I die. Thank you, Dime.

Ahhh...memories. The smell of new tape plastic. For me, I would have to add the smell of old fast food in a hot car in Texas as I pop the tape into the deck.

Same age. Damn. We loved Tampora, the little group of degenerate junior high metalheads I ran around with. Great days gone bye.

That’s a very cool story. I was a bit older so I went to the shows. It was everything you imagine and more. Now crank up the VOLUME in your imagination X 10, turn the lights off and on real fucking fast and have a churning melee of crazed, drunken, stoned, hardcore PANTERA fans flying all around you. WITH THOSE DUDES as the deafening soundtrack for this sensory overload. It was a scene for damn sure.

@@philstone3859 I can't even imagine that. We can't choose the times we grew up in but that period of the early to mid 90's will never be replicated. Nobody will understand having a Walkman or Discman and listening to cassettes or CD's on the school bus. I wouldn't change anything about it. Great times.

I absolutely LOVED VDOP, to the extent that the album cover patch of the guy getting punched is sewn on the back of my leather jacket with two circular CFH patches sewn on either shoulder to commemorate the best metal band I ever heard in my life...

it wows me at how his stage playing was as good as the recordings but that he also played with such ease and grace...he seemed to communicate thru the guitar better than he spoke with his own voice...like it was a more natural outlet for noise. 1 in a million guitar legend! perfection!
