    I heard a Dime story that at a clinic like this a kid told him that he wanted to learn guitar because of Dimes music but his parents couldn’t afford a guitar. Dime told the kid to stick around after the clinic was over. Once the crowd had dispersed Dime called the kid over and gave him his guitar and told him that next time he was in town he wanted to jam with the kid. Dime was a hell of a dude..

      This sounds like bullshit to most people probably but if you've ever interacted with the dude, you'd know that's the kind of person he was. You hear all the stories about him remembering what kind of drink people wanted when he invited them to parties and making sure he got it for them and if you watch some of the behind the scenes stuff about the Moscow show you can see the way he was around people.

The next thing that person knew Tom was apologizing (someone who was a crew member on a movie he worked on said that). I have no doubt Dime was the same.

    I was taking guitar lessons in the mid 90s and I noticed my teacher, who was versed in blues/jazz, had a Pantera cd in his collection. I was blown away and asked him if he liked Pantera. He said "No, I can't stand that type of music" So why do you have the cd I asked. "Because their guitar player is on another level, and I'd be a fool to ignore him bc I didn't like their music". Even people who didn't like Pantera couldn't deny Dimes skills

      The crazy thing about that, Dime, if what I’ve been seeing and reading is true, was primarily self taught...based on what I know having played electric guitar for over 32 years...some of the stuff he does, had to’ve been taught to him by someone...like he says “Little Penatonic, Little Minor, Little Major” the fact that he knows what that is, and is able to articulate how it relates to his playing style doesn’t quite line up with his explanation of figuring it out on his own by jamming with Kiss & early Van Halen records in his bedroom...just saying...

All through the 90's when the music world was taking a shit, Panetta kept it raw and powered through. Im so full of regret and torn I didn't get to meet the dude. I put on Vulgar video sometimes n grab some coors n knock it out. I did however take my Dimebag camo guitar to his resting place and prayed with him. Feels like my guitar is blessed now know what I mean? Anyways yeah I can understand you wouldn't want to part with even a pick lol. That's cool. I'll see him one day when it's my time. Peace brother and keep jammn!

      @@mpwhiteloon2316 The fact that he was so down to earth makes it all the better. Sometimes you meet someone who you really look up to and they turn out to be a jerk, but not him. That's awesome you got to visit his grave. I live outside Cleveland and have been to the Alarosa a few times. They have a little memorial outside. I almost went to see Damageplan that night but it was a little too far away in Columbus (2 1/2 hour drive) and I had to work in the morning.

    Dime never met a stranger. If you had a conversation with him, he was a friend. I had the pleasure to see a show in Dallas while I was home on leave from the Marines and had lucked out getting backstage from a bro working security. I didn't want to press in and be a "fanboy" just wanted to say great show. He ended up talking to me for 20 minutes asking me about the Corps, making fun of my hair, steady putting drinks in my hand even I wasn't done with the one he gave me before. I was gobsmacked on how approachable and warm he was. A genuinely nice human being.

Then he does the same thing with the index and ring finger on the first and fourth frets and repeats the same pattern. The last one is with the index and pinky on the first and fifth frets with that same pattern. Warming up every finger.

      This is so well known about Dime, loved not just for ability but being a righteous human. True story, I was 13 when my dad came home one day and gave me a beer coaster that Dime had written out to me, it reads “Sean, keep on rockin dude!” With a hand drawn CFH and his autograph. My dad had been playing pool with him all night at some bar and just thought he was cool. After a while the old man catches somebody call him “Dime” and he figures out he’s talking to his teenage son’s idol. My old man ain’t into Pantera but asked for an autograph for me and I still have it framed to this day. This is from right around ‘94. My dad’s awesome too. He still says, “Yeah Im not into metal but that Darrel guy was cool, fun to hang out with.” 🤘🤯

      Now let me be clear - the act of him killing Dimebag was an absolute crime, but this wasn't just some ordinary fanboy who had a beef with the band. metallichic87 - remember in 1993 there was no internet, social media, internet websites that promoted awesomeness like this. I am 38 yrs old...only thing we had was Metal Edge magazine. I hear ya tho..most of these gremlins in this store seem like old turd folk that just came from Walmart - they had no clue of what they were seeing.

      espemg7 ah man i used to love metal edge magazine. went to my old room a couple of weeks ago still has the pages i've ripped out and taped to the wall. Old pantera, slayer, king diamond and sepultura were all on there. Tripped me out lol

    He might not have been the fastest or the best in music theory. But he sure as hell was the most influencial and coolest guitarplayer in my opinion. A more down to earth and an caring person you have to look long for. Since im only 18 i unfortunally never got to see them live. Rest in peace Dimebag. I hope i one day will become half as good you were. (Sorry for my spelling, English is not my native language)

      He was definitely the coolest guitar player in metal yeah, so was Pantera as a band. There's alot of metal guys and bands who are all like... cheesy, awkward and not cool haha. Pantera was just the most badass really heavy metal band. Same goes for Down. Really seemed like guys you'd want to have a drink with.

    • @gusgarcia4884
      @gusgarcia4884 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your 200 percent wrong sir. Music theory is the study of practices and possibilities of music. His speed is excellent enough in the metal industry and just cause he doesn't play super fast on all his songs he articulates and throws in just enough, for me, to categorize it as shredding. Which I would definitely call fast. He can play just as fast as let's say yngwie malmsteen but let's leave that style of fast to yngwie. When I want to listen to classical metal I'll go there. I can't think of a more deserving guitarist who portrays possibilities and practice in his genre of music. He's one of the best in that field.

    • @EricJh21690
      @EricJh21690 8 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      From what I've heard of him sing in videos of concerts and other shit like the home videos, he actually didn't have a bad singing voice haha. I'm sure other than doing some back-up vocals here and there he wanted to be able to give his full attention to playing the guitar when performing live though. God I wish I had been able to see Pantera live, I was born in February 1990 so I was a little too young haha.. by the time I was getting old enough they split up. My first concerts were Primus and Ozzfest in 2004, and I planned on seeing Damageplan when they came around. Damageplans album was definitely good, but it didn't give me the same feelings Pantera albums did. I would have seen any band good or bad if he was playing haha.. he just was such a massive influence on me and playing guitar as I grew up. Eventually saved money from chores to buy a Dean ML-F and other gear he used like the whammy pedal. Learned as many of his riffs as I could, and tried to learn/perfect his solos as I got better. I never was as excited as when I finally figured out the trick to doing the squeals the way he did by dumping the whammy bar haha. I never did get to see him with Damageplan, since he was tragically and senselessly murdered by that cowardly shitbag. Hopefully Dime is at peace wherever we end up after death, as well as the other victims. I feel bad for the audience/band and their crew for having to witness and endure such a brutal tragedy.. as well as the cop who first responded and took action to kill that scumbag. Can't help but think how badly I wish I could've seen him live and met him in person every time I listen to Pantera or watch their home videos/concert footage. RIP Dime you're missed immensely, and your music will continue to have a huge impact on people for generations to come.

    :( Wow, just shows you how humble and simple dimebag was. Hard to watch this without shedding a tear, Pantera got me through School. Only band that made me feel 10ft tall when listening to them. I remember confronting a dude that was bullying me, I listened to Trendkill on repeat for hours and broke his nose. I dont advocate violence unless its self defence but damn it felt good.
