Those holes you put the lock down bolts in are rear subframe alignment holes used in the assembly plant to aid aligning the rear subframe quickly. Once the rip down the four main subframe bolts they remove their guide bolts and carry on.
Great video man! I've been thinking about doing the same upgrade myself, was super excited when I saw you upload this video! I recently subscribed because I really enjoy the videos you put out, I also own a 2006 WRX so it's nice to watch all your videos for a great reference to my car. Keep making videos bro! You have my support!
Most 5 speed aren't weak, what actually brakes is the center differential bearings and destroys the transmission. If you weld the c-clip on the center diff to the housing of the differential/viscous coupler and replace all essential bearings you can make more than 350wtq.
Hey guys just reporting back.. The lockdown bolts mod i did and wow was it good.. I am on the next step doing the bushing support. I highly recommend doing this mod on your wrx as it is simple cheap and effective.
bless u m8 getting ready to do this on my 05 shes rusted to $$. Im so nervous. basically the whole rears got to go 2 much rust. im going to have to watch this a couple more times.
You and me both. I live in the rust belt of USA and it's done a number on my 02. Entire rear end refresh, replacing everything that's reasonable and getting rid of all the rust on other stuff, such as the subframe.
It'll take about 2-4x as long, but for this kinda work, it's best to just drop the rear subframe. Remove the propeller shaft, the differential mount front cover, and differential mount lower bracket, then remove the nuts from the differential housing bolts. Remove the lateral arm bolts and flange bolts (lateral control arm) and the axle nuts so you can remove the rear axles then just drop the entire subframe (a transmission jack, with it's "leveling" abilities makes this a dream). When reinstalling every thing, remember to replace the lateral arm bolt nuts, flange bolt nuts (lateral control arm nut) and axle nuts. Also, if you mess with the cam bolt or the lateral link washer (it looks like a cross or plus sign) at all, remember to replace those nuts as well. Torquing those down is also a pain in the ass, though. Technically, you're supposed to bolt the subframe back in and screw the lateral control arm flange bolt and lateral arm bolt back on the car (basically everything BUT the axles, and remember to use the old nuts at this point) so you can torque down the cam bolt and lateral link washer nuts while the car is on the ground. You don't reinstall the axles at this point so you have clearance to torque them down to the relatively heavy 58 newton-meters. Then you disconnect the axle housings again and install the axles, finally torquing down the lateral link, lateral control arm and axle nuts. Everything on Subaru's is like a big puzzle, but once you know what parts constitute what assemblies, the annoying parts of the whole procedure go away and you're left with just the beauty of the engineering.
Installed this kit on my 05 wrx wagon and the car feels brand new! Boy did you make this look easy, what a pain it was on my end. For the most part things went smooth, other than one of the lockdown bolts snapping the captive nut inside the car 😭 cutting into the trunk later this week to retrieve/weld up the nut to the frame.
@@znogs9907 it sucked but thankfully I had a friend help me with it. We had to pull majority of the interior from the rear, cut a flap by the shock tower and fold it to expose the broken nut that Subaru welds in. Had my friend tack the nut back on then sealed everything back in place
Great video mate, I don't have a WRX I have a 3.0 H6 outback but a lot of part's are carried over on most Subaru's Cheers mate Greetings from Australia.
I just bought a 2007 wrx hatch and i think im gonna add this mod to the list! My shifting feels a bit loose and crunch at times so i will be changing the shifter bushing. You should give that a go if your shifter feels gross
@@72JPP The steering is noticeably less vague. Before, I could turn the steering wheel 1/8 turn or so before the wheels engaged. Now, every time I turn the steering wheel, the response is more immediate.
thanks for the video dude!! im gonna be installing these this week! hopefully i dont snap a bolt i live in canada so my car is rusted to shit underneath
i dont understand what gains you would get from adding those to stock rubber bushings. surely just upgrading to poly bushes would have been a better idea? i've never seen these before and dont understand why you would add those ones to the top of the subframe bushes. the diff ones i kinda get as it packs out the stock ones but still
tried this install and saw the rust... got to the brackets on the side skirts and theyre just rusted through and just spin in the holes and dont come out. called it quits there.
Sorry to hear. I guess I got lucky. I did use some PB Blaster penetrant on all of the nuts and bolts which might have been my life saver. Sorry not sure what else to tell ya 🤷♂️ I hope you can get it!
I may be missing the joke, but it may be because California doesn't salt the roads (it's actually illegal in CA because of the environmental impact. Secondary benefit is "cars that don't rust". That's an Outside Providence reference/quote, btw).
I was installing some whiteline bushings on my 04 wrx and the screw that goes into the diff the 2 in the middle one of them the nut came off before the screw did, do you have any advice how to get the screw out without the nut?
snipemanic Did the studs get stuck in their threaded hole maybe? Did only the nuts come off for you? Perrin states it will fit 02-07 wrx on the website.

I am supposed to be doing this mod to my 2007 WRX tomorrow! Now I feel even more confident with the install after watching your video. Thank you!
If I were you, I’d change those bushings too before adding the Perrin on
nice glad to see you took my advice 👍🏻 keep up the good work man
Pb blaster is ok. Thrust is hands down the best penetrating fluid.
Definitely good stuff but I personally like deep creep by seafoam

I did mine but with the beatrush brace and I love the difference it made.
Can also use a jack to jack the new arm with buses into place easily :D without going to far.

Greetings from Australia.
Really good video buddy. FYI my STI 05 does not have the bolts already in the subframe
Great vid mate, i’m currently in progress installing this mod.. diff bracket is a tough sucker to get back in!
As usual, entertaining and informative. Thanks man, from a 2006 WRX TR guy.

Great video I’m gonna check this out for my blaze yellow bug
good work! BUT THOSE TIRES DAYYYYYUM
Great video, as always loving the humour. Thanks for the info again 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Nice and informative. Keep it up. 😎
You need some tires my dude! Down the the cording! Come over to Colorado and visit me I'll help you out😁
Wonder whether the two lockdown bolts on their own will make a difference. Not sure if all Subaru’s can install those bolts.
those tires... hahaha... thanks for posting the vids though man... learnin a few thangs that help me knuckle drag on my wrx
thanks for the video dude!! im gonna be installing these this week! hopefully i dont snap a bolt i live in canada so my car is rusted to shit underneath
This vid was a big help
Stripped one blot on the two ends where the smaller bushing go anyone know part numbers?

good install video man.
Looks like tour tyres are showing cords😮
Bro, get some new tires ASAP. Also, you should invest in some 6 point impact sockets. 12 point is just stripped bolts waiting to happen.
🤔 okay 👌

Bushings work in mysterious ways. Install them and feel the difference. 😈
JESUS THOSE TIRES
Just saw this - has the petroleum jelly ruined your rubber bushings yet?
Hmm haven’t crawled back under to investigate 🤷♂️ things are still quiet at least
I feel you brother, l love mechanic too.👍👍👍
Did yours come with 6 or 8 bushings. The instructions say that there’s supposed to be 8 bushings but I only got 2 large 4 small, then the bolts.
tried this install and saw the rust... got to the brackets on the side skirts and theyre just rusted through and just spin in the holes and dont come out. called it quits there.
WTF @ 19:29 just right of the jack stand little black shiny creature ?
Nice video subro!! :) keep it up
How were you able to get the stud out of your differential? I can only get the nut on it free..... Help!!!! thank you

My carpal tunnel screams every time you use your hand as a hammer haha
15:36 i didnt get the bang!! .... did i do something wrong
Will I be able to re-do the tread on one of the big lock down bolts, it strip out having problems with the new bolt?
Bummer. In that case, a Possible drill and tap may be in your future
10:21 some freeky diff eyes lookin at me.
Nice video, thank you
Please tell me you aren't driving around on those tires, cords are showing
No of course not 🤥
I'm Confused, why does your car have no Rust? LOL
No shit
Yeah I'm confused. You can that rust
I may be missing the joke, but it may be because California doesn't salt the roads (it's actually illegal in CA because of the environmental impact. Secondary benefit is "cars that don't rust". That's an Outside Providence reference/quote, btw).
Handbrake on with rear wheels in the air 😂
Shout out to that guy... who I won’t actually name 🤦🏼♂️
It's okay, he knows and thats all that matters 😎

Maybe some pliers? It should be a long threaded piece from what I can remember. I guess I got lucky on mine. Good luck anyway
I dont wanna see u stuck on the side of the 15 freeway due to that bald tire bro lol
😂
would it fit on a 2.5i 2006?
Yes 04-07 are GD models
Which sway bar is that?
15:05
I think you could use some new tires, bro...
Duly noted, thanks. 📝
I wonder if the STis have these from factory?
hmmm. My guess would be yes. I mean my WRX already had the threaded holes and everything.
At least my 05 STI does not. The holes are there I wish they had these from the factory
@@06wrxdude no subframe locking kit on my06 jdm sti, nice job

Tyres buddy 🤦🏻♂️
🤡
This kit does not fit the 2007 year wrx due to the diff not having studs like yours. Don’t ask me how I figured it out fml

06WRXDUDE Yeah you’re right actually, I kept looking at it and realized it can just double nut it lol
nice cheap mod, I'll do this too on my 05 rex eventually
What isyour deal bro! Guy to bolt lol
They ain't no nice rims bro
Indeed...they are stock 😬
