    You could clean the engine by filling it with diesel instead of oil couple times and run it on idle. It cleans milkshake quite well and diesel has lub properties so it does not damage the engine or the seals.

    • @oodles86
      @oodles86 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting

    • @krosstsp1698
      @krosstsp1698 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And by the way gasoline that many people use for that task is no good cause it dries all the oil seals in the engine as well as everything inside and it’s causing damage. Only diesel that contains basically oil.

    • @MrRock861261
      @MrRock861261 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      a quart of transfluid will do it as well. As long as there isnt a heavy load on the motor the water will boil out when the oil gets to temp.

    • @krosstsp1698
      @krosstsp1698 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      MrRock861261 yes will do just trans fluid does not have cleaning properties like diesel. Keeps tend to separate from water like normal oil. Diesel mixes with water and takes it out and when at rest then separates from water.

  • @Cosigner22
    @Cosigner22 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I definitely would have pulled the motor, pulled the pan, cleaned with brake-clean, pulled the heads, cleaned everything you can touch, replace timing belt and related rollers and bearings, reassemble, and pull the plugs out of the bottom of the fuel tank to drain (all of my Subaru's have had plugs). Would have taken little more time than y'all took already.

    i know its a little late but it might still be a good idea; subaru makes a turbo failure engine flush which is a diesel like oil you add to the oil and run the engine for 20 mins and it really cleans out the engine. like $40 or less from a subaru dealership.

You're about to the point of information overload. There are so many Automotive Shows that are Pro-Builders that the History of Hot Rodding is getting lost. Where do people think the professionals gained their knowledge? Somebody like Chip Foose who learned at his Daddy's knee took that passion to the next level. Dave K. is SELF TAUGHT. Trial and error. Vic Edelbrock SR passed along his knowledge to JR who passed it on to Cammie. YT has given you and a few others a place to show people what it means to be Garage Built again. Nothing fancy. Keep on keeping on. We'll keep watching and learning.

    Love the video, one thing to note you may not have need to drain the oil that much. With the oil only being put in, run for 60 seconds then shut off. You are " Short tripping" the car. What the is, is when you run the car just long enough to get it warm but not warm enough to remove the moisture that comes form air. The moisture then condensates and appears in your oil as a milkshake.

      100% there's water in there. A little scared of the intake having whatever-that-was in there too... mud, rust, who knows. I'm not terribly proficient but I know that once headers are off, rust follows pretty soon afterward. Sounds like it sat headless for a few months. Cool that it runs -- pretty good engineering to make something which can function after that catastrophic of water damage -- but if they dont get it out, its not going to stay running.

      You never under any circumstances start a flooded car that you suspect went into the engine until you drop the fuel tank, fuel pump, bleed the fuel lines, brake lines, check the block and cylinders, the oil, the transmission, the fuse box, as much wiring as you can see by eyeballing it, and then once all that stuff has been gone over and had a full fluid change can you start it.

    Something else that needs to be checked on a flood car are the wheel bearings. A friend bought a restored flooded Ford and several months after he bought it, the front left wheel bearing failed. When it was checked, it still had water in it from the flood, so whoever salvaged the car, had not checked the wheel bearings for water and cleaned and re-greased them. Result - new front wheel bearings needed.

    Timing belt kit and water pump replacement immediately . Also your alternator might need some new bearings. If your A/C compressor has a clutch might be noisy but it stops if you run it for a while.

    Use some atf in the oil to help drain out the water. Take a look also at the pcv valve and hoses. Any cracks in the turbo inlet? Lastly cxracing makes a top mount upgrade and get rid of that intake and find a stock airbox setup

    Get a cobb accessport and make sure you're running a proper tune. It really looks like the previous owner took all his aftermarket parts and left all the oem things in the trunk for the insurance company. If the battery was dead when they took it apart, they might not have been able to uninstall/unmarry the accessport. So there is the possibility that you're running a tune for all aftermarket things and that's making it run funny

    After the third oil change you can let the engine idle until it reach full operating temperature and the remaining water will evaporate out of the oil then run the engine for a few hours and do oil change.

    Temp coolant sensor normally has a carbon buildup at its tip. You could clean it with a carburetor spray cleaner and hook it back in and it should be good.

    Honestly at this point why don't you rebuild the engine?

    • @blobeye_dylann9193
      @blobeye_dylann9193 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Facts. I get that its a budget build, but like it took me $4k to rebuild my entire STi motor with forger internals and a shop built my shortblock. I think if he rebuilt it, could potentially save him a couple thousand in the future

    • @All2Skitzd
      @All2Skitzd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He hasn't even had the car in the ground driving. It's not a good idea to rebuild the motor at that point on a flood car. It's a pain in the ass to have to pull the motor, split it in half the put it back. Once the car is on the ground with a few miles then narrow the problems down to internal engine and if you either really like the car or make TH-cam videos then rebuild or replace.

    • @arzdaman
      @arzdaman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending how he is going to drive it I'd say break it down. At least change orings, king bearings and piston rings only take about a day with 3 people depending.
