Mel, I have been watching your videos for a couple of years. I have thick curly hair similar to yours. I am 34 and I always wore it straight until 2 years ago, when I started wearing it natural. After watching your videos and following your advice my hair grew exponentially, it was beautiful and healthy. Just as I started loving my curly hair I was diagnosed with an aggressive type of breast cancer. I went through many different treatments for a year and a half and I lost all of my hair. I finished treatment, cancer free, 2 months ago. My hair is coming back very curly and hard to manage. I started watching you again. I have bought most of your recommended products and I am following your routines. It has changed my world post cancer. It is helping my hair grow back and look nice and healthy while it grows back out. I watched your video last week where you were questioning your career choice. Please know that your making a difference in people’s lives in a way you may never know. You have helped me when my confidence was at its lowest. You are very knowledgeable, vibrant, and helpful. Thank you for helping all the curly girls find confidence in their curls 👏🏻 That has been on my heart to say I hope it gives you a wide perspective of the difference your making. 🙏🏻

Love my Dyson too! It also has bumps & chips in it from years of use! Sometimes my hair gets snagged in the chips (which wouldn’t happen had I been following your hover method correctly 🥰).

It never ends. I am 45, almost 46, and am just getting my hair somewhat figured out. Right at the same time I’m getting more gray hair that has a tighter and different curl pattern.

    • @pollysshore2539

I keep looking at my grays hair and saying who are you? Why will you not clump with the rest? What is your malfunction?
I’m getting it dyed and having a gloss put on it soon. I’ll worry about it later.

I'm a wavy to curly girl over 50 with very long, mostly natrual gray hair and what's left of colored hair towards the bottom, and I've been watching Mel's videos since the pandemic. And I've half-assed her and other's suggestions on my hair. I know Mel knows what she's talking about, but I get lazy with my hair. I also get into a rush and want it done and dry NOW. I hate air drying because it takes hours, and I also wash more frequently than I should because of summer heat and menopausal night sweats. This morning I made a pointed effort to do things the "right" way after watching this late last night. I also don't own a Dyson and never will due to the cost, and use drug store products that I can afford. I have a decent dryer I got on Amazon along with a diffuser. I started with the detangling in the shower and applied my leave in and gel to sopping wet hair. Scrunched with a t shirt. After a few minutes I went in with my dryer using the techniques above, and I'm having the best curly day ever, with little to no tangles in my length. I was literally going to cut off about three inches of hair. Even my wirey grays are behaving as best they can. And it didn't really take any longer than when I rough dry my hair and finish it with a warm flat iron or curling wand. Bottom line, if you're like me and you've watched her videos, use her information! If she can take the time to make them, we can take the time to do our hair the right way!! Thanks Mel 🌹

      @wtedwards3883 2 ปีที่แล้ว

This is true. Yes it would be nice to have all the fancy equipment and expensive products but you can get pretty much the same results (curliness level of your own) using drug store, and non terry towel to plop and any diffuser using her methods and recommendations.

  • @juliebruce1114

I recently started seeing a curly trained stylist. She gets MUCH more definition at the root when diffusing. I have super fine curly hair and I asked her what she was doing. Instead of pushing the hair to the root and holding the diffuser for a few seconds, she picks up the hair gently and places the hair in the diffuser off the head a little. I know you are “hands off” but since I have been doing that I have more definition and less frizz at my roots!

    • @jnorth9702

I had my collarbone length-hair cut in long layers. I use a hard hold mouse at the crown and use the comb_pick attachment at the top and crown using lowest heat and medium air settings and then use the cold-shot to set for curls and great volume!!! Love my Dyson 🥰

Dude…I never thought about back combing my roots. That is SO smart. Tomorrow is my wash day and I’m VERY excited to try this!
Also, I adore you, your seester, and your channel. I have psycho non porous, dense, thick, very dry 2b-3c (yes, every single one of those patterns) hair and before I found you, I couldn’t get it under control. Now I get compliments everywhere I go. Thank you, curl mom!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I like my dyson but I prefer a bigger diffuser bowl with longer teeth to get to my roots without squishing the curls and dry more of my hair faster, sooo… I ordered an extra concentrator attachment from dyson, then had my husband cut the magnet part and high heat glue it to my Black Orchid diffuser. I’m in love. Best of both worlds.

Hiya! Just wanna thank you, Mama Mel, for not only helping me with my curls, but for doing it in such a sweet, high energy way! You always cheer me up! Bless ya! .... Sadly, back in 2019, i lost my beloved hubby, Tony, to cancer, which led to me losing 80% of my hair. Three years later, i am half way to my disired length again, thanks to me wearing hair pieces and getting regular trims. I wish you well Mel, and please do keep up the good work! I have become a huge fan of yours! Once again, Thank you! xxxxxxx

Tip and trick that I do is to use a rotating space heater. I sit at my vanity while it sits behind me on top of a folding table and let it do it’s thing. First I start in the back for 15 minutes, then both sides and last I’ll move my hair by doing the swaying technique. There is no crunch afterwards. It’s just shiny supple curls.

The Infiniti pro by con air works well for me and it’s only like $35 on Amazon. For those of you who are saying you can’t afford a Dyson. You just need a diffuser, and this one comes with one too! Just be mindful of the heat settings. Don’t use the hottest setting. I usually use warm and cool. It takes a bit longer of course but my hair is healthier for it ☺️

Love love love this! Had no idea I was using my diffuser wrong until now. I don’t have the penultimate Dyson but a knockoff that so far works very well. I’ve been natural since 2006 and struggle often to get my curly coils to do something, anything other than frizz. You are a lifesaver Mell! P.S. would you consider doing a vid on working with greying hairs and how to care for curls as the wirery one take over?

Not a vid, but I had a really tough problem with this. At night I use metal root clips to teach my hair to go up.
I use Boldify Root Spray in my roots and
for root volume and root wave definition, I use a 4 prong Spriggle pick and stick it straight in my hair scrunching in and then lifting the root while hover diffusing (a little like back combing without the combing part). This works really, really well. It's like hands free scrunching your hair. You get no frizz though because you aren't disrupting the cuticle or curls and waves. Also dries your roots fast.

  • @angeleazaanderson4023
    @angeleazaanderson4023 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Love this! To elongate my curls, I hover diffuse for definition and then put the concentrator attachment on and blow it on my roots while holding the ends. Then I pick it out (with a regular pick, not the attachment) for volume!
I do use the comb attachment to blowout my hair before flatironing and it’s AWESOME

Please review Virtue labs curl line with either their mousse, AG mousse Gel, or Gel over the Curl Whip cream (you may get away with just the curl whip). It uses ethically sourced human hair keratin that bonds to your hair to repair damage and add fullness. The curl line & mousses are the only dimethicone free but OMG this is AMAZING STUFF. They are working on a gel at consumer request.

I am so happy I can across this video. I will be referring back to it whenever I blow dry/diffuse my hair. It’s not often. I usually let it air dry or plop it, but while I love waking up with styled hair, it does sometimes have varying results as my curl pattern can get wonky. Although I live that it’s not frizzy doing it that way. I’m definitely going to try back combining it at the root to see if I can achieve a little volume there.

I like definition/volume mix. So I hover diffuse and scrunch diffuse.Using a very hard hold gel to prevent frizz. I don't SOTC all the way. Just a little for some softness and movement. My curls last forever w/frizz by the cast naturally dissappering day by day.
Today not doing any hair routine because I live in southeast GA and wet, rainy, windy tropical storm Elsa is on her way! Lol so back in a low soft ponytail today.

Ahhh this video was so helpful!!! Would you ever consider doing some more “protective” styling videos??? I’m not confident when leaving my curls down but don’t want to do some of the tight styles that stretch my curls! Thanks! ❤️

Love your channel and your website! And you are so entertaining and funny while at the same time being so very informative! Comment and a question. Comment: Not everyone can afford the Dyson much as we might like. Can you please recommend other hair dryers or maybe even to a review video of a bunch of dryers you consider good.

My ends have been very wonky lately and I’m pretty sure it’s because I’ve been using my Dyson on medium/high heat when cupping. Gonna start lowering my settings. Thank you!!

I had my collarbone length-hair cut in long layers. I use a hard hold mouse at the crown and use the comb_pick attachment at the top and crown using lowest heat and medium air settings and then use the cold-shot to set for curls and great volume!!! Love my Dyson 🥰

Thanks Mell, I’m still getting used to my ‘wash n go’ 😅. Can’t wait to get my own Dyson, hoping to spoil myself at Christmas 😊
Update: my fav technique is the hover one for definition then because my hair is so thick, I use the pick to dry and lift my roots. Loving my results, thanks so much Mell 😍

I never thought to use a wide tooth comb and the diffuser to elongate the hair. Hopefully it works out well for me. I hate the scrunching one because I’m already type 4 and I don’t want my hair shrunken completely to my scalp 😂

You might want to look into buying a refurbished Dyson, of if that's still too expensive you might want to think about purchasing a Shark dryer. I've been looking at reviews for myself and the Shark seems to be pretty comparable and less expensive than the Dyson, but it's newer and not as popular so it doesn't have as many attachments.

Sometimes you can do split payments on those items look into smaller payments each month if you really want the dyson because that’s my plan I’m pretty sure they do financing. Hope this helps!

I am a middle-aged lady with a huge pile of 3b hair that stays wet for a long time so I have always had nice dryers -- Babyliss, Solano, Elchim, Chi. When Dyson came out, I was like NFW that's too much but let's see. I made several trips to the Bed Bath & Beyond to dry my hair with their Dyson display. I was not impressed (but the store employees & guests always were lol). In 2021, I was looking for a travel dryer, small, delicious. I splurged bought the T3 FIT micro & it is the best dryer I have ever owned. Ever. It's still a kind of spendy dryer but tbh I stopped using my Chi Touch 2 lol so it's not just a travel dryer anymore. Good luck.
