Elizabeth Rhea Nat - you can brush curls in small sections when wet to get defined curls but yeah definitely not when dry (unless damaged and bushy is the goal)
msbionik - the only issue I know with brushing curly hair is that it’s prone to breakage. But you detangle with your fingers (or wide tooth comb) and only style with the brush (so the hair shouldn’t snag and won’t break). Natural oils should be a good thing, your body releases them to maintain the hair (but too much is another story but that’s not typically caused by a brush). At least that’s what other hair stylists and the American dermatology association have said.
My mom is completely unaware of this, and she SCREAMS AT ME EVERY FREAKIN DAY. However i used to hate my hair throughout my life, until now when I've finally started taking care of it myself. It still needs a lot of care but it'll be fine. My mom has straight hair so i don't think she could ever relate lol
Try going to a hair salon and getting a stylist with curly hair thinking oh yeah I'm about to get taken care of today *AND THEN HAVE THEM BRUSH YOUR HAIR WITH THE DIFFUSER WHILE TRYING TO DRY YOUR HAIR*
I like having curly hair because if I want it straight, I can flat iron it. If you have straight hair, you don't really have a way to get natural looking curls unless you perm it. (In my opinion, curls done with a curler don't look natural, though they are pretty in their own way!)
The only thing that makes me hesitate.. I thought as a general rule water is bad for hair and good for skin. But the oil/water thing really depends on the hair porosity, etc. It's worth a try, I guess..
Something that makes me cringe *SO MUCH* is when my friends with straight hair will touch my hair, pull my curls apart, and brush their fingers through my hair and I'm just like *STOP*
*-Cut dead ends and possibly layers* *1 Don't use oils in your hair* *2 Use big hairpieces/scrunchies* *3 Do not stand directly under water flow to avoid flattening* *4 Wash with hair flipped upside down or to side* *5 Apply sulfate and paraben free shampoo from roots down* *6 Massage scalp and comb hair with fingers to stimulate hair growth (combs cause breakage)* *7 Apply conditioner from ends of hair and detangle up to roots* *8 With very wet hair (inside shower) apply a generous amount of gel to palms* *9 Smooth gel over sides of hair then scrunch up towards roots from tips* *10 Use a microfiber towel or cotton T-shirt to gently scrunch upwards* *11 Gently put hair in a diffuser (on blowdryer) and let it sit* *12 Place metal hair clips at roots of hair around the crown of the head to encourage lift while drying* *13 Air dry when possible for less frizz*
"Omigod your natural hair is so cute! Wear it down!!!" _takes out ponytail_ "Ew! Don't you brush your hair? It would look much better straightened." _spends literally 1.5 hours straightening it_ "Ew! Why is it so frizzy? Your hair looked much nicer when you left it natural" _has to wait like two weeks for hair to recover from being straightened only for the cycle to repeat_ This is why I've stopped caring about other people's opinions.
wait you have to wait for two weeks after straightening the hair? I can straighten it however long i want still it only takes me to get into a little bit of humid area and my hair goes puff and it's curly again.... o.O one washing it and it's back at making rings.... o.O
SAME OMG!! It takes me 3 hrs to straighten. And ppl are like Why is it so frizzy!! And then literally a WEEK later -Do you ever straighten your hair?!?
JellyHime for their type, my hair for example needs lots of oil, my mom is polish and she has oily hair so she doesn't need that much oil but on my dad's side they are Cameroonian and need lots of oil...so it depends on your ethnic background...this hairdresser is obviously European so of course she doesn't need that much oil cuz she prolly has oily hair already.
My mum always told me to use coconut oil to make my hair look and feel healthy and I have gotten use to the process and did it everyday and ever but today I didn’t put anything on except conditioner, a bit of shampoo and i scrunched my hair in the shower for 5 mins- my neck hurt BUT IT WAS WORTH IT BOIII. My hair was( I hate the word I’m gonna use next but it feels right to put it in this paragraph) sLaYiNg. I used a bit of gel too but it still would of looked bomb without it as well. Idk if this would help anyone cos idk if many people have the same kinda hair texture as me. SSCRUNCHING THE HAIR REALLY WORKS FOR ME.
Wow a lot of these comments are so negative. 'Running out of ideas'??? This was a genuinely helpful video for a lot of people, no need to be so rude! Also both of these women and their hair are so beautiful ♥
Everyone: *laughs at the thought of not using coconut oils* Woman in video; *laughs in certified professional hair specialist with a degree in cosmetology*
Just because she has a degree doesn’t mean she can’t be wrong. She’s right in that you shouldn’t just slap in oil, but if you have low or high porosity hair oil can help keep the moisture you put into your hair.
Sly CANdí Yeah, but that’s like saying don’t use shampoo because it dries out your hair. You’re technically right in that it dries it out, but you need to know *how* to use shampoo in order for it to benefit you, no one is using straight almond oil as a conditioner. You use oil as a way to keep moisture into your hair and prevent outside moisture in the air from getting in.
As someone who has and struggles SO MUCH with my curly hair this video was very awesome! No one else in my family has curly hair and so for the longest time I got nothing but negative comments on my hair. But for the past 6 years I have been in a constant battle to perfect the curl routine! Definitely need to try some of these tricks!!!
Friends it will be a battle but the key is to find a hair dresser with curly hair who understands first hand how to wage your curly haired war😂👍 curly hair is unique and beautiful! Don't let anyone ever tell you different😘
You should go check out /r/curlyhair on reddit. The people on there have been through plenty of trial and error so they know what they're doing (and they have much better tips tbh).
TheCherroes I want to do that but I'm only 16 and my mom won't let me do it so you know I have to obey. But when I become a adult she said I can make my own decision but I want some feed back first before I do it. Was it worth cutting it off?
It will eventually go back to the curls if they stop straightening it. I was born with hair that looks like a fresh spiral perm and straightened it for years. after I stopped it took a good year of cuts, conditioning, and no brushing to get it back to curls. Now that I have waist length beautiful curls I wish I had never straightened it.
My hair is the same too. :/ When I was 13-14 my hair was so curly and didn't know what to do with it and I had so many jokes about it. Now, as I don't know what to do they juste are wavy. So sad.
This video is so inspiring. I love that it appreciates their curls instead of pressuring them to straighten it. As a girl with curly hair this was very helpful and confidence boosting. Edit:omg thanks for all the likes❤
The secret is what YOU say! I have curly hair & people always told me to straighten my hair. I did it once, maybe twice in my life. It wasn't me, I didn't like it. I didn't do it again, haven't regret it. Embracing your nature despite the trends (or advices you hear from here and there) is not a bad thing and eventually seperates you from the whole, making YOU special (unless you are among others with curles! 😁)
So I tried this method just this morning and it WORKS! My curls have more bounce and are much more even. Putting gel in it while it's very wet and washing my hair upside down helped SO much.
I just used a regular drug store brand, nothing fancy. I do however usually use curl cream instead of gel. I find it makes my hair less crunchy when it air dries.
What conditioner did you use? Did you rinse it out? or, just put it in and add a bunch of water. Then you added curl cream and then gel or just curl cream?
You can cut it off and grow it back healthy or if you're insecure about that you can transition and cut the damaged hair of when your hair is at the length you want
Charlotte D same here....about one year....I continuously straightened my hair.....I ruined it....now I m worried wat to do to get my hair back.....I m.suffering from heavy hair loss...😑😑😑😑
Hey girls, maybe we should stop fighting about the classification of the curls or waves or coils and appreciate that these girls are finally feeling better about their natural hair. As a wavy/curly haired person the video was mostly stuff I knew but I definitely learned some things. Let's support each other because everyone's hair is beautiful beyond the labels.
Emma Marie O'Neill exactly!!! There's so many different curl textures I don't get why people have to put others down for not having the same exact curls. 2b or 4c it's all curly!
The one that started crying was so sweet! She really gained some slef confidence. And she deserves it - she is RADIANT and has so much unique, natural beauty
Samara C yeah, I know, because oil doesn't moisturize your hair and if your hair is dry and you put oil on it, you put a coating over dry hair and it doesn't do anything for it (learned that the hard way)
Eliza Schuyler I also have Type 4 hair, but I’ve cut out coconut oil and shea butter from my routine. My hair responds better to lighter oils like avocado oil.
I know that my opinion isn't that of the masses, but growing up I was always so jealous of girls that had curly hair. It always looked so flawless and energetic. Where as my straightish hair would look flat and boring, idk just my opinion
S M This shows we don’t love what we have because us curly girls (or me at least) always straightened my hair because I hated my curls and always wished for it to be straight so I could just wake up and not have to worry about how it looks
I wish I had beautiful curls like my grandmother and my mom but my hair is weird because there's days where it's wavy and other days it's really curly.
pxxxin That’s not true because I take care of my hair but I have days where it’s not as curly and voluminous as the other days even when I do the exact same routine
hhh It’s not just you. I have curly hair and I always wished for straight hair because of the same reason. I wanted to get up without my hair being super frizzy and tangled, and I wanted the same hair that everyone else had. All the girls I’ve also met with curly hair have also wanted straight hair. As I’ve grown up I’ve learned to appreciate my hair
hhh maybe you just haven’t found the right routine for you because I have SUPER curly hair and before I found the routine for me it didn’t look the same every time. So perhaps try experimenting with other ways and you might get the outcome you want. 💞
the worst thing is that im in the middle of straight and curly. like my hair doesn't have any obvious curls but it still has the frizz that comes with it. so it just basically looks like an untamed bush 24/7
Have you tried using the curly girl method? This used to be my hair and it was an actual bush. What you want to do is define your natural curls or waves so the hair has volume, but isn’t as frizzy. Look up the curly girl method and I have some tips too! Here I’ll leave a separate comment so this one doesn’t get too long and I wish you luck!
So the first thing you want to do is to switch your shampoo, conditioner and all products to silicone sulfate and paraben free. If you use an expensive ish shampoo and conditioner (around $6 per bottle or more), you can find similar priced shampoo and conditioner. If not you might have to invest a little more but water down the shampoo(NOT the conditioner) so it lasts longer. If you look up penny Tovar she can teach you to spot silicones and sulfates. Basically sulfates strip your hair of natural oils and silicones make your hair feel smooth but create a waterproof layer that feels shiny but the hair is dry on the inside. Make sure to scrunch your hair with a sulfate paraben and silicone free but lightweight cream or mousse, if your hair isn’t super curly, so it’s not weighed down. Observe your hair after using the curly girl method(look it up, it’s super helpful!) then find a match for your hair type(1a, then there’s all the way from 2a-4c). Don’t be embarrassed to buy curly hair products, remember the cashier isn’t going to get mad at you or question your motives😂 or at least not out loud. And even if they do why should you be ashamed of doing what you can to make your hair as healthy as possible! Look for brands like devacurl and check the ingredients. Anything that ends in -ate,-sulfate, or -cone is a no. Especially sodium laureth sulfate (sls) and dimethicone. Personally I find that longer hair with regular trims reduces the frizz, just because it’s harder for long hair to have that same poofy quality. Try washing your hair 1-3 times a week, and co-washing(just conditioner and a rinse) if it feels too dirty. Use scrunchies and looser elastics and clips in your hair to prevent breakage and give your head a massage every once in a while! Go easy on the oils so it doesn’t have a silicone-like effect, but use a really hydrating silicone sulfate and paraben free conditioner. I’m not sure how good this is for your hair, and it’s pretty expensive(I received it as a gift, but I only use it when I want my hair to look especially put together) is the living proof no frizz styling cream. Also don’t dry your hair with a regular towel. An old t-shirt or microfiber towel is much better. If you don’t have time to air dry, a diffuser is much better than a blow dryer. Know how to scrunch and if you choose to use heat, always use a protective spray beforehand! Sorry that this comment is so long but reply please if you have any more questions, and I hope this helped!
All she did was use Lorraine Massey method. You don't need to go to a hair stylist to get your curls back. You can either get Lorraine Massey's book called Curly Girl or look up the curly girl method here on youtube. I really dislike this hairstylist for trying take all the credit.
Sami try using a sulfate and paraben free mask for deep conditioning and if you need to break the cast try a little bit of jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is the most like our own natural oils the human body produces.
It's nice to finally see a curly hair video that is also addressed to people not only with very curly hair or very tight curls. My hair is similar to the red-haired girl's and it's one of the few times I've seen a video with tips and product suggestions that I can actually apply to my own hair. Usually it's either a video for straight hair or a video for, like, type 4 curly hair
Imani Monay I wouldn't say that, really. At least not for the youtubers and the videos I came across, myself. Not saying it's wrong that there are videos for 4 type curls but I just wish there were more for my type of curls as well.
i hope somebody had taught me how to take care of curly hair when i was little. i never realized it was so different from straight hair care. i used to have tight curls but after all the damage i did i'm left with frizzy waves. i want my old hair back!
You can totally get them back! It will take a while, but will be so worth it. I highly recommend buying "The Curly Girl Method" book by Lorraine Massey which pretty much teaches you all of this from the video plus SO MUCH MORE and I promise you will get your beautiful curls back. xo
Cut your hair and start again. So many people think they can 'grow out the damage'. All they're doing is clinging onto damaged hair and making it worse.
em omg same!! I shaved my head for a fundraiser and that was when it stared to get back to something closer to what it used to be, it's much healthier now but not the same..
I have this issue in the front parts of my hair. the back is sooo curly but the front parts are wavy, with the occasional straight chunk. my stylist mentioned it last time and I almost cried lol.
My hair is different all over. Some curly parts, some are wavy and some are almost straight. I think it’s partly because it’s so thick and heavy and also just because I don’t know how to style it properly
Pugs are bae literally me and all my friends r like “ohh it’s just heat damage” or “oh it’s cuz u occasionally straighten ur hair” I’m just like “nahh Das just my curl pattern...”
I have naturally curly hair and I can relate the whole parents calling my hair "messy" and sometimes even I "look like a witch". Jokes on them, everyone else seems to think my hair is pretty.
I relate to that so much too! and not only family but my friends said that to me too, so I started to sometimes straightening my hair (not always cuz I'm too lazy) but mostly always wear ponytails and buns and still do so my hair has a lot of breakage, frizz and bipolar curls...
For me its the exact opposite. My mothers think my hair is beautiful, while some of my schoolmates have told me it looks really messy. One even told me my ends looks like roots(tree roots)
The only thing that has ever made my natural curls look amazing is whenever i go to the beach, my hair somehow reacts really well to the salt water and leaves it looking sooooo nice! at least I know i can try this now so i don't just have to wait until summer to have nice hair.
Ik this is an old comment, but you can add 3/4 of a teaspoon of sea salt to 1/3 of a cup of warm water, stir it up, and put it in a spray bottle. Lightly misting it over your hair should have a very similar effect as to when you go to the beach. And you can experiment a bit with the ratios to see what your hair likes best! Keep in mind that more salt means more texture and volume, but can also mean that your hair gets weighed down or crunchy. Also, be generous with the conditioner while you experiment because too much salt can dry out your curls. Hope this helps you get the results you're looking for :)
when this video first came out, i took most of the advice and completely changed my hair routine, now 2 years later my hair is so much healthier and my curls have never looked better!
I literally have never related more to anyone 😭😭 I would try to fix my hair in elementary school and kids would still make fun of me and these girls asked me EVERY DAY (literally every day) why I didn't brush my hair and when I said I did they would laugh at me..I proceeded to straighten my hair from 6th grade-11th grade and for the past 2 years I've been wearing it naturally curly 😳 I loved these tips so much, thank you!
MySweetCreationz I can relate. Up until about 6th grade I’ve straightened my hair and I’m still currently straightening it about every 2-3 days. (I’m in 8th now) I should probably start to take care of my natural curl instead of nearly burning my hair off.
Utari yeah! I have so many split ends its crazy 😭😭 I have def noticed my hair has gotten healthier though this past year! Def recommend laying off the heat for a while
Lol.. some people are just ignorant, don't mind them! I was once at a Salon getting hair treatment, and the woman doing my hair was combing it after the wash. She told me: "you should buy one of these and comb your hair". I laughed cuz I do comb it..besides.. I'm sure she wouldn't know better than I did about my own hair! (she was filipino and her hair was silky smooth). Jokes on her! According to the tips in this video, I've been doing it right.
People on this post are rude AF. Both women have about about a 3a/3b curl and it may be different after they stop straightening so much. The people hating in the comments are basically saying their curls aren't good enough to be considered "curly". How hateful. As someone who struggles with my curly hair, this video was exciting to watch, it was also great that two women of color were featured. Be nice....there are tons of videos with 4a,b and c curls on youtube too, that are just as exciting and interesting. Not every curl is the same, not every person is the same. That's the great thing about having thousands of options on youtube to watch.
Yeees. The English hair community is so pretentious about curls sometimes. Unless it's super tight ringlets it doesn't qualify. I'm not used to that IRL lol But I think it's because kinky curly hair is basically nonexistent in my country, hair like the above result is considered really curly here.
Alny Torres Alny Torres THANK YOU! I've always struggled with my curly hair because i truly don't know the curl pattern from straightening it for 10 years or so. I'm transitioning it now and gradually chopping off damaged ends, so I'm getting an idea of what it will look like but still don't know how to take care of it in the mean time. This video helped me tremendously because I'm pretty sure I have the same curl pattern as Shila, which throughout all my research I've struggled finding care tips for that curl type.
im a hair stylist and this almost made me cry! I would be heartbroken when curly haired girls would complain about how much they hate their hair because they dont know what to do with it until i educate them on how to have a routine, what products to use and how to style they are so shocked because they thought everyone had the same routine. Curly hair girls need moisture and not use products with a lot of alcohol in it because curly hair is naturally dry.. the best part is you dont have to wash your hair so much. just rewet your hair and you activate the products again and style.
I’ve never found a hair dresser who actually knows how to cut my curly hair. They always straighten it before they cut so then when t goes curly again it sits kinda funny My mum is rubbish with hair cause hers has always been short. Its never been below her chin. So I’ve never had anyone who can actually tell me how to take care of my hair. I absolutely love my curly hair but I just wish I knew how to make it look good consistently rather than having a couple of good days and bad days
Besides the Deva curl products what would you recommend also needing their haircut what should I ask for exactly: layers, bangs or what specifically? Thanks so much
Donatela is my stylist and legit... after I got my hair cut with her a few years ago I have NEVER gotten my hair trimmed anywhere else. She made these curls POP and wowed me with what she did to my hair. And how she helped me understand how to care for it. The girls look gorgeous in the video!
Izzyandreadiaz you go girl! Started to wear my natural hair out and everyone loved it and even I loved it because I felt so confident in it and as long as you take care of your hair you'll look fab sis!!
In the beginning of the video where they told their curly hair story and why they straighten I was like Same Same. Same!! YES uh huh mmm hmm Amen Yes Hallelujah
I have a straight thin hair, but i just love hearing the hairdresser. She sounds like my professor but my mother at the same time. She gave very informative tips and tricks, not being overly friendly / annoying, and not being judgemental at all. I really hope she can come again for the straight fine hair version.
It's crazy because there are SOOO many natural hair gurus for type 4 abc hair, but they come on this video which obviously isn't for them and complain.
im a 2b-3a (my hair is insane) and it's honestly pretty difficult to find people who know what they're doing with my hair texture. there are so many natural hair gurus on yt and the internet for tighter curls and kinky hair, so im super happy to find these women have curls closer to my own !
Wow. The comment section is surprisingly mean today. There's a lot of "they're not real curls" a) their curls are heat damaged and have been getting straightened for a long time b) even damaged, their hair was still obviously curly at the start of the video c) curls are on a spectrum, and there are different patterns and types. Some people have tighter curl patterns, some have looser. d) curl pattern isn't uniform. Depending on the type of curl, it will change shape with length and weight of hair, and most people have different curls in different parts of their head. My curls get tighter, and form Shirley Temple ringlets the longer my hair gets. e) it's just bloody rude to go around telling people, "you don't have real curls". Yes, they do, and they likely have their own hair struggles, which are likely different to yours. Sod off, and quick being a rude $#!+
Their hair isn't wavy. It is actually curly. Look up definitions of curly compared to wavy. Even when waterlogged, you can see a difinite S pattern to the hair locks. And even before cutting and washing, there was a lot of loose twisting and twining curls all throughout their hair.
Slauson Donut Except their hair is actually that curly. They didn't curl it with curlers or a one of the curling tools. Their hair was trimmed, thoroughly washed, and dried. And their hair, now getting the treatment it needed, was restored to normal curls. Curls come in a spectrum, with some having looser curls and some having tighter curls. That's just how it is. There are 6 different basic types and both these girls have curls that fit into those types. 🤷🏽♀️
Slauson Donut Their hair is heat damaged, therefor its not as curly as it would normally be. Once the hair is treated right, the curls will begin to come to life and be bouncy again. A curl is a spiral, and when you see the end result you can definitely tell that its a spiral. Just because their hair isn't kinky, doesn't mean it's not curly.
I'm a curly hair girl adopted into a straight haired family. My mom had no clue what to do so she just had them cut it. Then in high school I begged for a straightener because it was all the rage. I'm 30 now and finally embracing my curls!
if mermaid pants are enough to get you all twisted up in the comment section maybe you need to unwind a little but yes those pants were very expensive and unnecessary.
I'm Peace Ikr, I want to start wearing my hair in its naturally kinky texture, but I don't know how to start. I already cut most of my perm off, but I don't know how to keep my hair in its natural texture after washing it.
damarius ingram not necessarily I have curly hair and I have only straighten my hair 2 and my hair has different pieces some that are nearly straight some that are waves and of course mainly curly
I actually thought they both looked better before... she just made it look like their hair was covered in car grease. The extra volume was kinda nice I guess
Hahah is was looking for this comment! Every curl looks good with a fat cast like that on it, scrunch that s*t out! I did not see leave in or curl cream, only tons of gel? Her hair looks like it’s high porosity so a leave in is very wellcome
OMG an actual hairdresser that knows how to treat curls?!?! Is this even real? For so long I'd go to hairdressers and they'd wet my hair, pull it straight and then chop off what seems like not much at the time, but when it bounced back up it looked like 5-10cms! These hairdressers of mine with straight, platinum bob cuts had NO idea how to do my curly hair, and it was *always* a sad day to go to the salon... it's so nice to see an expert who knows about styling curls! :D
She's using Devacurl gel, and it's magic. It's unlike any other gel I've tried, I used the Ultra Defining gel (which is not even their lightest) and it *never* made my hair crunchy despite me using a good amount. It's worth the money, everything cheaper I've tried to replace it with has been a flop.
so i found this video a time ago and it inspired me to do the big chop to rid of my heat damaged hair, now more than a year later my hair is healthy, long, and curlier than ever ! i get so many compliments now but the best part is when my mother (she has curly hair) nonstop tells me how wonderful it is to finally see her daughter with her natural curly hair. for anyone struggling to love their natural hair, don’t fight it instead bring it back stronger than ever.
Chesca y yes, me!! Conditioning is a realll struggle because once I put conditioner in my hair, that's it. Buildup city. I'd have to wash it every day to get rid of the buildup! (For the record, I do use silicone-free conditioners)
Yes! I use a fairly light conditioner to keep from weighing my hair down, but then it gets flyaway... I haven't figured out quite the right combo of products yet.
Such beautiful curls. It's so hard to find someone who understands curly hair and I feel most girls with curly hair have similar stories. Every curl is different and we just didn't/don't know what to do to make them look their best. I will definitely be using the tips from this video. Thank you!
ttt Unknown Lol Harry Styles. He had straight blond hair when he was a baby, but it turned brown after he was a toddler, and it curled up when he was about 12.
the same thing happened to me, and i was forced to straighten it from bullying and pressure from my teachers. i just started to wear my hair naturally 2 weeks ago and i already adore my curls.
To everyone saying this isnt curly, it is. Everyones thinking coily hair means curly. Nope. Coily is tight curls and curly is looser curls like these. This IS NOT WAVY ITS CURLY!
they have heat damaged hair. brushing and using heat will damage the curl pattern and keep the hair from forming ringlets. 3a hair can definitely look like 'tight waves" when it isnt cared for properly. if the girl with red hair stops using heat she will probably have 3a-b curls. the other girl probably has 2c but its hard to say because of the damage. i wish we could stop judging each other over these arbitrary categories though.
It sounded like the hairdresser was saying: "i know the curly girls love the oreos, but stay away from the oreos!" But she was actully saying oils, not oreos😂
Thank you so much for this!!! I can tell that Alexis was really weighed down emotionally about her hair and she just LIT UP at the end. Such a wonderful thing to see. Maybe I'll feel the same way with these tips :)
That's so sad that people would throw stuff in her hair. I have wavy hair, but people never did that to me. I always get compliments because it's super thick and wavey. My dad thinks that my hair is always a mess tho 😂
The same thing happened to me and my hair. i probably have 5 pounds of hair on my head and it is curly and big. When I was in middle school kids would throw stuff into it, people who sat behind me thought it would be funny to stick pencils in it and get them stuck and see if I would notice, and one time some girls even tried to sneak behind me and cut it off with actual scissors. I started wearing it straight every single day for years until I felt comfortable enough to go back to curly.
For everyone complaining about their hair being wavy: They have naturally curly hair but damaged it with years of heat. The title is fine the way it is
Can you do a video about treating straight hair with Donatela?? She knows so much oml! And would any of those volume tips like the metal clips work for straight hair too?
Probably, but you could also back comb it, or blow dry it with a round brush to give it volume. Neither of those would really work for curly hair, so that's probably why they use clips.
I have curly hair, and this is something I do for 5-10 minutes after I shower... I lay on a couch or a bed with my head hanging of the end, and my face looking upward. It keeps the volume and I'm sure it would work for straight hair too.
A hair dresser I know blow dries in the opposite direction the hair is going to lay. So if you have the hair on the right side of your face, blow dry it towards the left, and vice versa. Depending on the length of you hair, you might be able to get volume with giant curlers, like the ones that are 3 inches or bigger.
Decent tips, I don't wash my hair in the shower, and have 4b hair, so I'll pass them on to relevant parties, but don't let Donatela put you off oil; use it strategically. We use oil to "lock in" the moisture we've already put in our hair through water and products- and BECAUSE oil does not allow moisture and water to pass through the strand, high porosity hair types rely on it to keep our curls styled and un-frizzed through the day. When you layer oil on last it will work wonders, in KEEPING A STYLE INTACT by preventing addition moisture causing frizz (4-type hairs like mine with my high porosity appreciate this) but find your own stratagem to use of oil
Exactly! I add on a little oil after adding cream and a bit of gel. My hair has a high porosity and it just locks the moisture in and prevents humidity from frizzing it up.
Yelly Yellez That specific rule works the same for all hair textures. We all should use oil, but you shouldn't overdue it and it should always come after washing, conditioning, and styling. So whether your hair is curly or straight, oil comes AFTER.
I agree. I completely disregarded that tip as it doesn't apply to me. If I just use leave-in conditioner on my hair alone, it'll dry out in a day or 2. Sealing with oil keeps it softer and supple longer.
I have type 3a/b hair and oils are kind of a no no for me. I can't use them the same way a type 4 girl does, or my hair would look obviously weighed down and oily. Butters and creams work so much better. I usually mix some oils in creams like shea butter leave in or leave in conditioner for the loc method. Other than that oils are a disaster. What works for type 4 doesn't work for type 3, vice versa. 2 different hair types.
This is really inspiring for curly people. I personally have curly hair and am I guy so I have a lot of difficulty with seeing everyone who has normal hair and I have a difficult time finding hair products that fit my hair type and help me with my hair, because most of it turns my hair crusty and frizzy but I encourage you guys to do a versión of this but for guys with curly hair
Deva curl have amazing products for all curl types (I speak from experience; nothing seem to work quite as well), and they have a simple routine for men who don't want to spend too long taking care of their hair. :)
I have super curly/wavy hair and my best friend doesn’t and once at a sleep over she asked if I had a brush she could borrow and when I said no she was like “ew you don’t brush your hair” NO I DONT BRUSH MY HAIR WHEN ITS DRY ARE YOU CRAZY
the girl complaining about being told that her hair looked "messy", I remember some of my teachers saying to the curly-haired girls in my class to straight their hair because "they didn't look polished" "they look messy" :/
I was once told I had witch-hair by a classmate, lol! To be fair, I was brushing it and using drugstrore shampoo and conditioner, because I didn't know any better. I have 2c/3a hair. All curls can look beautiful, as long as we know how to take care of it.
Wilber myhair is really wavy in the front and on the sides but the front (the part that would be bangs if they where short) are pin straight! i love air-drying my hair but i always end up pinning the front up or under so it doesn't look weird..
The woman with the glasses had the BEST reaction, when she said ‘ I’m such a big baby’ I laughed so hard. It was such an honest reaction. Love it! Both had beautiful hair♥️♥️👍🏻
If anyone was wondering what shampoo and conditioner they are using it's deva curls. It's a rlly good shampoo and conditioner but don buy I from Amazon because its fake order from their website or ulta
I literally just "permanently" straigthened my hair yesterday because I wasn't satisfied with my curls, and then you upload this video. Missing them already, thank you guys...
I can’t wait to go through my curly girl journey! I felt emotional seeing these lovely girls get emotional about their hair. They rock it! I can’t wait for my curls to get there bounce back 😌❤️
In middle school I straightened my hair everyday because no one had curly hair like mine. I'm in high school now and I'm trying to live with my curls and embrace them. Videos like this really help me!
I'm so happy they posted this video!! I have the same hair type as the woman with the darker hair and I never know what to do with it or how to make it really shine and bounce... these tips really helped! Thank you BuzzFeed!
As someone with curly hair I learned so much!
Deleted Account I just went to a curly hair dresser! It's super worth it especially if you don't know what to do or how to style your hair :)
Deleted Account sameeee
Deleted Account me too
i thought i needed oil GOD I NEED TO LEARN
Deleted Account me too! Great video
The fact some people don’t understand that brushing curls is NOT an option lmao
Elizabeth Rhea Nat - you can brush curls in small sections when wet to get defined curls but yeah definitely not when dry (unless damaged and bushy is the goal)
@@t.h.1492 you're really not supposed to brush wet hair. Brushing hair stimulates the natural oils
msbionik - the only issue I know with brushing curly hair is that it’s prone to breakage.
Glitterscum my exact situation! girl, i feel you
Finding a hairdresser that actually knows how to cut curly hair is half the battle. Great job.
Exactly. I’ve known for years all these styling secrets, but I can’t find anyone that knows how to cut curly hair at all.
Finding a hairstylist to do hair 4 type hair is harder
Go to a salon with a DevaCurl hairdresser! That’s where these women went and they work with all types of curls
I just use google maps to look up curly salons. Most good salons will have lots of reviews with pictures.
The red head reaction was so sweet, you could just see how she embraced her curls and herself
4:38 "OMG Im such a big baby."
4:55 "Dangit"
Am I the only one who absolutely loves her personality?
InTheLifeOfMe yes
Yes u r
Wendy Chen I know she so adorable
And she is also stunning! ❤🦄👑

Growing up i realised everyone with curly hair wants straight hair and everyone with straight hair wants curly hair, well most people
ChloeElenaTumblr I noticed that too actually. Not everyone, but a majority of people.
My hair is medium-wavy, so sometimes it's straight-ish, and sometimes it's curlier than it usually is. It's super weird.
I like having curly hair because if I want it straight, I can flat iron it. If you have straight hair, you don't really have a way to get natural looking curls unless you perm it. (In my opinion, curls done with a curler don't look natural, though they are pretty in their own way!)
I love my curly hair. But my hair is not at all healthy. it's super thin and brittle and very less volume. That's what make me so said
ChloeElenaTumblr true dat
*Avoid oils*
I never felt so attacked In my life-

That hairstylist is actually amazing and the tips she gave are great👏👏👏
yes, finally some really good advice!
The only thing that makes me hesitate.. I thought as a general rule water is bad for hair and good for skin. But the oil/water thing really depends on the hair porosity, etc. It's worth a try, I guess..
Elle P If you hear her speak she said "not too many oils" Idk why the editors said avoid oils.
Sara Good point.
Sara Castellanos i can only get a beautiful texture in my curls if i use oils, so i guess oils work for me?
Something that makes me cringe *SO MUCH* is when my friends with straight hair will touch my hair, pull my curls apart, and brush their fingers through my hair and I'm just like *STOP*
finally someone said it lol
I have wavy hair but all my friends have straight hair. When they touch it I cringe soo bad JDBDKBSSJBBSH STOP BRUH😢😢😢
I have curly hair and I like it when people do lol
Lol I feel you girl😂 my friends collects rubbish from every corner of the school and put it in my hair 😐😒
I know!! It's like they've never seen hair!! Lmao
*-Cut dead ends and possibly layers*
*1 Don't use oils in your hair*
*2 Use big hairpieces/scrunchies*
*3 Do not stand directly under water flow to avoid flattening*
*4 Wash with hair flipped upside down or to side*
*5 Apply sulfate and paraben free shampoo from roots down*
*6 Massage scalp and comb hair with fingers to stimulate hair growth (combs cause breakage)*
*7 Apply conditioner from ends of hair and detangle up to roots*
*8 With very wet hair (inside shower) apply a generous amount of gel to palms*
*9 Smooth gel over sides of hair then scrunch up towards roots from tips*
*10 Use a microfiber towel or cotton T-shirt to gently scrunch upwards*
*11 Gently put hair in a diffuser (on blowdryer) and let it sit*
*12 Place metal hair clips at roots of hair around the crown of the head to encourage lift while drying*
*13 Air dry when possible for less frizz*
thanks!

What Gel??
Heather Fitzsimmons thank you!! 💛
Why apply a gel and then remove it with a tshirt ?
"Omigod your natural hair is so cute! Wear it down!!!"
_takes out ponytail_
"Ew! Don't you brush your hair? It would look much better straightened."
_spends literally 1.5 hours straightening it_
"Ew! Why is it so frizzy? Your hair looked much nicer when you left it natural"
_has to wait like two weeks for hair to recover from being straightened only for the cycle to repeat_
This is why I've stopped caring about other people's opinions.
wait you have to wait for two weeks after straightening the hair? I can straighten it however long i want still it only takes me to get into a little bit of humid area and my hair goes puff and it's curly again.... o.O one washing it and it's back at making rings.... o.O
There's someone who made a video on curling hair, her name is Manes by Mell, maybe that will help?
U shouldn’t have in the first place
SAME OMG!!
It takes me 3 hrs to straighten. And ppl are like
Why is it so frizzy!!
And then literally a WEEK later
-Do you ever straighten your hair?!?
That hits on another level
"The gentler you are with your hair when its wet, the better its gOing to look when its dry." WORDS OF GOLD!!
"Don't use too much oil"
Me: S H O O K
JellyHime for their type, my hair for example needs lots of oil, my mom is polish and she has oily hair so she doesn't need that much oil but on my dad's side they are Cameroonian and need lots of oil...so it depends on your ethnic background...this hairdresser is obviously European so of course she doesn't need that much oil cuz she prolly has oily hair already.
international_gypsy i actually followed ALL the tips in this video and my curls look so much better
TBH, I've used her product as directed and dried it up. Smh. Too much protein, curly hair needs moisture not protein.
kyounao Lots of curly girls need protein. Your hair just happens to be protein sensitive. It all comes down to hair porosity.
Props to the hairdresser she's so professional and made girls look so attractive 😍.
Extra word up good sis👌
Extra 😍😍😍 thank you!
Wow a lot of these comments are so negative. 'Running out of ideas'??? This was a genuinely helpful video for a lot of people, no need to be so rude!
Also both of these women and their hair are so beautiful ♥
Rin Kagaderp I agree
Everyone: *laughs at the thought of not using coconut oils*
Woman in video; *laughs in certified professional hair specialist with a degree in cosmetology*
Literally
Just because she has a degree doesn’t mean she can’t be wrong. She’s right in that you shouldn’t just slap in oil, but if you have low or high porosity hair oil can help keep the moisture you put into your hair.
Kurfluffle but she isn’t wrong. Too much oils really damages the hair. You shouldn’t be using oils to replace conditioners and leave-ins.
Well those two girls have no oils in their hair and look how good their curls look AND both different textures of hair might I add.
Fashionforever1234 OMG YOUR COMMENT JUST EXPLAINED MY WHOLE LIFE EXCEPT I JUST STARTED WEARING MY HAIR NATURALLY LIKE 3 MONTHS AGO
Does anyone have suggestions for products 3b curls cuz I am struggling tbh
What these girls are getting is called a DevaCut, google it and go get one!
They both straightened their hair for so long, they didn't have curls anymore, it was just waves.
Cassie Pruessner Hopefully it will go back if to curly. Otherwise it's too damaged and they'll have to cut it off.
TheCherroes I want to do that but I'm only 16 and my mom won't let me do it so you know I have to obey. But when I become a adult she said I can make my own decision but I want some feed back first before I do it. Was it worth cutting it off?
I've relaxed mine since I was four, my last one was mid-july 2016. Never again 😭 and now I'm only straightening it every two weeks instead of everyday
Maddison Marie Yea I think that's the whole point of the video
Maddison Marie 599th liker almost 600!!
Maddison Marie yessss i love my curly hair :)
Rock your curls!
People: wear ur hair natural more often!!
Also people: ... why is it so messy... did you brush it!?
:|
I felt this on a spiritual level
I'd tell them if they're so concerned about the way your hair looks then they need to come do it! Lol
Diamante Dea ikr
Oh gosh sooo truee
So I tried this method just this morning and it WORKS! My curls have more bounce and are much more even. Putting gel in it while it's very wet and washing my hair upside down helped SO much.
what gel did you use please? does any random gel work
What kind of gel do you recommend?
I just used a regular drug store brand, nothing fancy. I do however usually use curl cream instead of gel. I find it makes my hair less crunchy when it air dries.
@@katiecrouch1381 oh thanks
What conditioner did you use? Did you rinse it out? or, just put it in and add a bunch of water. Then you added curl cream and then gel or just curl cream?
Im 17 and my hair is already ruined with straightening it everyday, I’m self conscious about it, this video has helped me so much
Dont worry, you can grow it back out and it will be as though you never straightened it!
You can cut it off and grow it back healthy or if you're insecure about that you can transition and cut the damaged hair of when your hair is at the length you want
I've been straightening my hair everyday since I'm 14. I'm 18 now so I know how you feel
I used to be the same but I started wearing human hair wigs to cover my curly hair so I didn't damage it. Mostly for work.
Yes. What is the purpose of picking nits?
Makeup Wears Off Well actually 4c is not curl. It is coil :) the hair shaft of 4c hair is tight zigzags rather than curly.
Thank you. It literally doesn't matter and some sad people can't keep their criticism to themselves whether it's right or wrong
Emma Marie O'Neill nice hair
The one that started crying was so sweet! She really gained some slef confidence. And she deserves it - she is RADIANT and has so much unique, natural beauty
as soon as she turned around i joined her in her tears 😭 she was so beautiful!!
"Avoid oils"
My 4a self: lol *proceeds to dunk hair in Amla, and coconut oil*
Eliza Schuyler exactly. Thank you
Oils are great but you should put them in your hair after you are sure it's moisturized so it can lock the moisture in
Samara C yeah, I know, because oil doesn't moisturize your hair and if your hair is dry and you put oil on it, you put a coating over dry hair and it doesn't do anything for it (learned that the hard way)
Eliza Schuyler I also have Type 4 hair, but I’ve cut out coconut oil and shea butter from my routine. My hair responds better to lighter oils like avocado oil.
Yes! Coconut oil and olive oil makes my hair so soft and shiny. #cubanfro
Straightening hair for 15 years? I would have hella heat damage! Good to see her curls flourishing!!
Aminay M subscribe to my channel please..?❤️❤️
Ikr...honestly wondering how these women aren't bald after straightening their hair constantly for sooo long
the worst thing is that im in the middle of straight and curly. like my hair doesn't have any obvious curls but it still has the frizz that comes with it. so it just basically looks like an untamed bush 24/7
I know what you mean my friend has similar hair
same
Have you tried using the curly girl method?
Sorry that this comment is so long but reply please if you have any more questions, and I hope this helped!

awesomesabrina138 im about to hunt her down😭😭😂😂
Donatela Sen . curls one on one hair salon LA

All she did was use Lorraine Massey method. You don't need to go to a hair stylist to get your curls back. You can either get Lorraine Massey's book called Curly Girl or look up the curly girl method here on youtube. I really dislike this hairstylist for trying take all the credit.
"avoid oils"
im putting coconut oil in my hair right now um
Sami try using a sulfate and paraben free mask for deep conditioning and if you need to break the cast try a little bit of jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is the most like our own natural oils the human body produces.
Same
Why is she saying avoid oils I'm so confused
Literally same
Me too it's mask day and it's all I have 😂
Does anyone else like me has hair that's neither straight nor curly but in between kind of like wavy?
Yep it’s usually hair that ranges from 2a -2c (Swavy)
Yeh I have 2b hair... but the straight bits seem to be the most damaged bits so I'm hoping it will even out as i go.
Your lucky
Hic et nunc Same!
Lucky, I hate to complain but I have that annoying 3c hair that’s all dry from me not properly taking care of it.
It's nice to finally see a curly hair video that is also addressed to people not only with very curly hair or very tight curls. My hair is similar to the red-haired girl's and it's one of the few times I've seen a video with tips and product suggestions that I can actually apply to my own hair. Usually it's either a video for straight hair or a video for, like, type 4 curly hair
indie_spirit lol really? Usually curly hair videos are only type 3 curls. They seem to leave 4b/c curls out
Imani Monay I wouldn't say that, really. At least not for the youtubers and the videos I came across, myself. Not saying it's wrong that there are videos for 4 type curls but I just wish there were more for my type of curls as well.
I have 3a hair and I don't really see any videos for my hair. They're usually 3b or 3c.
indie_spirit RiGhT !!! I'm so glad they did this my hair is like the one with dark hair :) just more spirally.
indie_spirit same all curly hair videos go for the very thinck tight curls but mine is thin and looser so for the first time I can fully relate xD
Wow their hair turned out so good in the end
i hope somebody had taught me how to take care of curly hair when i was little. i never realized it was so different from straight hair care. i used to have tight curls but after all the damage i did i'm left with frizzy waves. i want my old hair back!
All they're doing is clinging onto damaged hair and making it worse.
em the curly girl method will help alot. It saved me lol
em omg same!! I shaved my head for a fundraiser and that was when it stared to get back to something closer to what it used to be, it's much healthier now but not the same..
em me too 😢
3:55 if anyone was wondering what the clips were called, they’re called duckbill clips :)) it was a real pain for me to find the name
Thanks dude 😭
Kaveri Ashim, thanks man.
MVP of the comments section!
Has anybody else have naturally curly hair, but occasionally get straight strands/chunks?
I'm so paranoid lmao
Pugs are bae I don’t have any straight strands but I do have some strands that look wavy because I have a mixture of curl patterns lol
Yees i have two almost straights strands behind each ear and it is so weird xD
Pugs are bae literally me and all my friends r like “ohh it’s just heat damage” or “oh it’s cuz u occasionally straighten ur hair” I’m just like “nahh Das just my curl pattern...”
I have naturally curly hair and I can relate the whole parents calling my hair "messy" and sometimes even I "look like a witch". Jokes on them, everyone else seems to think my hair is pretty.
TributesAndUnique omg i just commented about the witch thing too. Thought I was the only one lol
My dad always says my hair is matted it sucks.
TributesAndUnique SAME, My mom always tells me to straighten my hair because she says I look like a witch when I don't
The only thing that has ever made my natural curls look amazing is whenever i go to the beach, my hair somehow reacts really well to the salt water and leaves it looking sooooo nice! at least I know i can try this now so i don't just have to wait until summer to have nice hair.
Pemmi Omg lol same
So I am not sure how good they are but they do make salt water sprays to get that effect.
Emily Grace Do you know if Himalayan pink salt works also?
The most commonly-used ingredient in perming products is thioglycolic acid, which is nothing but salt.
when this video first came out, i took most of the advice and completely changed my hair routine, now 2 years later my hair is so much healthier and my curls have never looked better!
Def recommend laying off the heat for a while
Same girl same... People ask me why don't you brush your hair and I'm like "I do" One time somebody told me if I even wash my hair!!
MySweetCreationz Idk y people prefer straight hair than curly hair CURLY HAIR IS AWSOME
Lol.. some people are just ignorant, don't mind them!
Love your comment. Exactly what I thought. x
Alny Torres THANK YOU!
Say it louder for the people in the back :D
MrzBadaBing I'm all about the re-wet. I stand under the shower for a while with just water. Works like a charm
MrzBadaBing do you know what kind of haircuts these are?
I’ve never found a hair dresser who actually knows how to cut my curly hair. They always straighten it before they cut so then when t goes curly again it sits kinda funny
My mum is rubbish with hair cause hers has always been short. Its never been below her chin. So I’ve never had anyone who can actually tell me how to take care of my hair.
I absolutely love my curly hair but I just wish I knew how to make it look good consistently rather than having a couple of good days and bad days
Jae Crow I think they are devacuts
Besides the Deva curl products what would you recommend also needing their haircut what should I ask for exactly: layers, bangs or what specifically? Thanks so much
Donatela is my stylist and legit... after I got my hair cut with her a few years ago I have NEVER gotten my hair trimmed anywhere else. She made these curls POP and wowed me with what she did to my hair. And how she helped me understand how to care for it.
The girls look gorgeous in the video!
I have curly hair and this video is super helpful, thanks !
Izzyandreadiaz you go girl! Started to wear my natural hair out and everyone loved it and even I loved it because I felt so confident in it and as long as you take care of your hair you'll look fab sis!!
Go to /r/curlyhair on reddit if you want much better tips! Some of the things the tips on this vid say aren't right.

I have a straight thin hair, but i just love hearing the hairdresser. She sounds like my professor but my mother at the same time. She gave very informative tips and tricks, not being overly friendly / annoying, and not being judgemental at all. I really hope she can come again for the straight fine hair version.
tip for curly hairs: do not *EVER* brush your hair when it's dry
YasminYasi I have curly, frizzy hair and when I brushed it dry I looked like Hagrid from Harry Potter.
Dragons Kiss haha yeah same
Very true.
YasminYasi I just brushed my hair while dry. 😂😂😂
Is that why they look so frizzy?
I don't even own a brush!
At 4:44 she pushes her hair back but the lady behind her pushes back in front 😅🤦♀️💀
That girl is so weird has no emotions, it think she fake...
Haha.hey.i it's her artwork...she needed to show it all off. Curly hair Chica was so use putting her back it was instinctive
@@ZikzakHD I mean what did you expect her to do, jump up with joy? Some people just have a hard time showing emotions through voices

I’m trying this tomorrow! I already use your products 😊
I want to try this, what hair gel shall i go for?
@@ridah4419 maybe eco or cantu hair gel
Deva curl is horrible for your hair !!! Do not use it !!!
Don't use deva try starting with cantu or a curly girl approved brand
@@fire.lilium6152 cantu isn’t curly hair approved, it has products that dry out your hair
I love curly hair.
4a isn't the only form of curly hair -- these women have heat damaged curls, calm down. Seriously, these comments are ridiculous.
Tina Tran ikr. 3abc is curly and they act like it's a disgrace to have it
They just want representation. Girls with 4a/b/c don't really get it tbh...
Actually people act like type 3 are the only forms of curly hair.
There's a lot of "they're not real curls"
a) their curls are heat damaged and have been getting straightened for a long time
b) even damaged, their hair was still obviously curly at the start of the video
c) curls are on a spectrum, and there are different patterns and types.
The hair is curly. The reason it appears wavy is because they use heat on their hair, so the curls have dropped aka heat damage.
Slauson Donut Omg, you sound sooo jealous 😁😁 Just mind your own perfect dreamy curls ;)
I'm a curly hair girl adopted into a straight haired family. My mom had no clue what to do so she just had them cut it. Then in high school I begged for a straightener because it was all the rage. I'm 30 now and finally embracing my curls!
whenever a video does not apply directly to someone's life they comment "buzzfeed is clearly out of ideas" lol grow up
if mermaid pants are enough to get you all twisted up in the comment section maybe you need to unwind a little but yes those pants were very expensive and unnecessary.
ughsaul People who enjoy following fashion trends.
Tbh sometimes buzzfeed DOES create stupid vids but saying that buzzfeed is running out of ideas because of this video is just...
*Please do this for other hair types!!*
I'm Peace Ikr, I want to start wearing my hair in its naturally kinky texture, but I don't know how to start. I already cut most of my perm off, but I don't know how to keep my hair in its natural texture after washing it.
Princess Ama there's a lot of natural hair gurus on TH-cam you can watch
Princess Ama I just wash my hair dry it a little bit and then slab a whole lot of leave in conditioner that's what I do
Princess Ama finger coils, leave in conditioner, twist out or braid out. Moisture it and put gel if you want
That's a great idea!!!!
Their hair is wavy from heat damage. They naturally have curly hair but from straightening it everyday for so many years it ruined there curl pattern.
damarius ingram exactly, their curl pattern's are totally messed up from the heat,
damarius ingram when I try to straighten my hair it doesn't straighten it just gets frizzy point and then gets really curly and frizzy again
damarius ingram that happened to me
Yea i ruined my curl pattern and now i have weird semi curly semi wavy/straight hair
damarius ingram not necessarily I have curly hair and I have only straighten my hair 2 and my hair has different pieces some that are nearly straight some that are waves and of course mainly curly
DID SHE FORGET TO SCRUNCH IUT THE CRUNCH !!!? Their hair so still waay to full of gel
I actually thought they both looked better before... she just made it look like their hair was covered in car grease. The extra volume was kinda nice I guess
Those curls looked STIFF honey
See, my deal with gel is that is makes my hair hella crunchy. Any recommendations?
scrunch out the crunch!
Just scrunch out the gel cast once your hair is 100% dry. :)
Oh, and make sure your gel doesn't contain any isopropyl alcohol! It dries your hair out and leaves it dull and flaky.
I use Lus Brands and love it! Highly recommend it. Leaves hair curly and bouncy without the stiffness or frizz.
THIS WORKED SO MUCH AND MY HAIR HAS NEVER LOOKED BETTER!!!! THANK YOU BOLDLY!!!
so i found this video a time ago and it inspired me to do the big chop to rid of my heat damaged hair, now more than a year later my hair is healthy, long, and curlier than ever ! i get so many compliments now but the best part is when my mother (she has curly hair) nonstop tells me how wonderful it is to finally see her daughter with her natural curly hair. for anyone struggling to love their natural hair, don’t fight it instead bring it back stronger than ever.
For a curly haired gal this was actually very helpful 😅👏🏼
Anyone here with curly but fine hair?
Chesca y yes, me!! Conditioning is a realll struggle because once I put conditioner in my hair, that's it. Buildup city. I'd have to wash it every day to get rid of the buildup! (For the record, I do use silicone-free conditioners)
Do you run into the problem with conditioning making curls limp ?
Yes! I use a fairly light conditioner to keep from weighing my hair down, but then it gets flyaway... I haven't figured out quite the right combo of products yet.
Same here, I hardly ever use conditioner because it makes my hair flat
Yep. I just have a ton of it
The problem is finding someone willing to cut dry curly hair and PROPERLY.
Such beautiful curls. It's so hard to find someone who understands curly hair and I feel most girls with curly hair have similar stories. Every curl is different and we just didn't/don't know what to do to make them look their best. I will definitely be using the tips from this video. Thank you!
Did any one else used to have straight hair but during puberty your hair turned curly?
ttt Unknown Lol Harry Styles. He had straight blond hair when he was a baby, but it turned brown after he was a toddler, and it curled up when he was about 12.
the same thing happened to me, and i was forced to straighten it from bullying and pressure from my teachers. i just started to wear my hair naturally 2 weeks ago and i already adore my curls.
my hair was so straight as a child my parents told me they found me in a trash can in china. then i turned 12 and now it's curly af
jung hoesuck same in my moms side of the family all her sisters have very tight curls so that's why I think my hair turned curly
ttt Unknown mine was dead straight and a light blonde and then puberty happened and now it's just frizzy waves and it's turned a dark blonde/brown
To everyone saying this isnt curly, it is. Everyones thinking coily hair means curly. Nope. Coily is tight curls and curly is looser curls like these. This IS NOT WAVY ITS CURLY!
Nah this is tight wavy with alot of volume. You can't really see any fully formed curls.
Sure you can see them, especially the red-haired woman has defined curls. An tight wavy with a lot of volume basically means curly.
Nope, wavy hair isn't a curl. That's like saying an oval is a circle.
they have heat damaged hair. brushing and using heat will damage the curl pattern and keep the hair from forming ringlets. 3a hair can definitely look like 'tight waves" when it isnt cared for properly. if the girl with red hair stops using heat she will probably have 3a-b curls. the other girl probably has 2c but its hard to say because of the damage. i wish we could stop judging each other over these arbitrary categories though.
*Mahlet* *Sucks* no? lol. As a women with type 4a hair, I say they both have curly hair. But, think what you want....
It sounded like the hairdresser was saying: "i know the curly girls love the oreos, but stay away from the oreos!"
But she was actully saying oils, not oreos😂
i heard curvy girls
Thank you so much for this!!! I can tell that Alexis was really weighed down emotionally about her hair and she just LIT UP at the end. Such a wonderful thing to see. Maybe I'll feel the same way with these tips :)
THIS WOMAN IS A MAGICIAN, PLEASE DO THIS ON MY CURLS😫🙏🏽
That's so sad that people would throw stuff in her hair. I have wavy hair, but people never did that to me. I always get compliments because it's super thick and wavey. My dad thinks that my hair is always a mess tho 😂
Growing up In a school where no one has curly hair or strightens it, it happens. I had paper air plains tossed in mine to see if it would stick.
Dude no joke I have naturally curly hair and people threw stuff in my hair all the time...including gum :(
The same thing happened to me and my hair. i probably have 5 pounds of hair on my head and it is curly and big.
I've had it happen and people threaten to cut it
Gabi Mecillas #sadlifeofcurlyhair they just jealous! 🤨😉
For everyone complaining about their hair being wavy: They have naturally curly hair but damaged it with years of heat. The title is fine the way it is
I got a little emotional, this is so beautiful
What a transformation. There is hope!!!
ok but what products were actually used bc DAMN
Siobhan Alvarez curls one on one used only devacurl products! They're pretty pricey so do research before hand!!
Siobhan Alvarez deva curl! It's all the lime green bottles in the background
DevaCurl!
The bottles looked like it was Deva Curl
Where can you get Deva Curl from?
Can you do a video about treating straight hair with Donatela?? She knows so much oml! And would any of those volume tips like the metal clips work for straight hair too?
Probably, but you could also back comb it, or blow dry it with a round brush to give it volume. Neither of those would really work for curly hair, so that's probably why they use clips.
it'll probs give you crimps at your roots
I have curly hair, and this is something I do for 5-10 minutes after I shower... I lay on a couch or a bed with my head hanging of the end, and my face looking upward. It keeps the volume and I'm sure it would work for straight hair too.
A hair dresser I know blow dries in the opposite direction the hair is going to lay. So if you have the hair on the right side of your face, blow dry it towards the left, and vice versa. Depending on the length of you hair, you might be able to get volume with giant curlers, like the ones that are 3 inches or bigger.
Just use colonizing hair products nearly everything is made for straight hair
Our hair ain't the same as there's
“Wait, did you even brush your hair?” Is the most annoying question in the world😤
This is really inspiring for curly people.
Helton Alvarez don’t use gel use curling creams, wet your hair and apply the cream all over. It will leave it defined and shiny!
You mean like shorter curly hair?
I tried all these tricks after this video and WOW MY JAIR HAS NEVER LOOKED BETTER
It happens to me all the time and now I just look at my friends like "are you kidding me???" 😂😂😂
When i brush my hair it poofs up
Mimi Hart Don't you still brush tour hair when it's wet though?
violym not with a brush lol
lol I dont own a brush, people think im insane (also because i do my hair upsidedown) its normal haha
I LOVE when people wear natural hair, it looks so good ❤️
MY HAIR IS EXACTLY LIKE THE FIRST GIRL. THE BROWN HAIR
the girl complaining about being told that her hair looked "messy", I remember some of my teachers saying to the curly-haired girls in my class to straight their hair because "they didn't look polished" "they look messy" :/
Romina no teacher has to right to say that
I was once told I had witch-hair by a classmate, lol! To be fair, I was brushing it and using drugstrore shampoo and conditioner, because I didn't know any better. I have 2c/3a hair. All curls can look beautiful, as long as we know how to take care of it.
My hair is curly in the front and wavy in the back probably bc of products
Wilber myhair is really wavy in the front and on the sides but the front (the part that would be bangs if they where short) are pin straight! i love air-drying my hair but i always end up pinning the front up or under so it doesn't look weird..
Mine is the opposite. Waces on the sides and a curly/unrulley mess in the back
Wilber mine too
Wilber or heat damage
OMG SAME!!!!

Most likely the Ultra Defining Gel from DevaCurl
Thanks a mil! I was wondering that!!
