  • Some Jerk With A Camera and friends endure Nickelodeon's latest brightly-colored shenanigan designed to distract your damn weiner kids for eighty-six minutes. Anyway, here's Wonder Park.
DISCLAIMER: This video, like every video on this channel, is intended only for mature audiences. While the topic at hand is a form of media commonly associated with small children, the purpose of this video is to present a mixture of analysis and comedy about said media from a distinctly adult perspective, which may possibly include profane language and references to sex, drugs and/or violence. TH-cam, like many websites, collects personal data on its users. The Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) has made it illegal to collect personal data on children younger than 13, and rather than fix their own algorithm, TH-cam is essentially threatening to pass the blame onto content creators whose work may seem "attractive" to children. For these reasons, the producers of this video feel compelled to state, in no uncertain terms, that if you allow a child under 13 years old to watch this TH-cam channel, you are a bad parent or guardian.

@@Marylandbrony Kinda, though I would argue it is worse in some ways as at least with Rand, the protagonists are "special" due to some level of hard work and achievement. In Incredibles and Incredibles 2, the heroes (except for Edna) are "special" because they were born that way, with the villains being the ones who had to work for power. That being said the Incredibles franchise is better written than either Atlas Shrugged or Wonder Park so the message isn't nearly as damaging.

My dad almost died of cancer and pretty miraculously recovered completely and I still hate this - like. I was absolutely depressed and felt terrible and you know what? People understood and supported me and I was much better off for it and happy when he recovered and like. I hate the idea of teaching kids that their sadness is bad because that’s so unhealthy and terrible

What? It never taught kids that their sadness is bad. Unless you took it that way because June's sadness got Wonderland in danger. I thought the point of it was that June was supposed to conquer her sadness and grief and accept it to save Wonderland. July 17, 2019, 11:42am

  • @MistCLaneous

    a) The Laika shirt is greatly appreciated.
    b) It is unfortunate that the film's moral ended up with those implications. It coulda been like a follow-up of sorts to Inside Out; whereas Inside Out taught that sadness was okay and to acknowledge it, this movie could've been about the aftermath of that acknowledgement, namely how to persevere through sadness/grief.
    c) For What's The Attraction?, I say that while it's perfectly reasonable to assume Nickelodeon Universe will be involved, that's not quite what'll happen in the long term. If history is to be believed, then we can assume that at some point Nickelodeon Universe will be rethemed to Curious George and then ultimately replaced with Harry Potter. So this version of Forbidden Journey will have an exclusive new scene in the queue in which guests will pass by the Transfiguration classroom and see the animals from Wonder Park are being turned into water goblets.

For anyone who cares, here’s how _I’d rewrite_ this movie: Open with the mom and June having fun with the imaginary amusement park but it’s really a _flashback_ June is having and the mother _actually passed away,_ say a year or two earlier. And the movie’s more about June not wanting anything more to do with the amusement park seeing it as a cruel reminder that her mother is no longer with them and June has turned from cheerful, optimistic, outgoing and imaginative to depressive, negative, withdrawn and dismissive of almost anything fictional. And the movie progresses and ends with June still mourning her mom but she resumes her amusement park idea as a way to keep her mom’s spirit and memory alive.

I remember going to Paramount's Wonderland in Canada when I was a child and yeah, they basically slapped logos from Paramount movies on some roller coasters and also put up some posters from their movies. For some strange reason, the park was filled with Hanna-Barbera rides and characters, so they must have also had a deal with Time Warner/Turner Entertainment. But there were also the occasional Nickelodeon meet-and-greets.
Anyway, I agree with a lot of what you said in this video. "Wonder Park" was such a mess, a complete sugar rush of a movie that never breathed, had characters who never shut up and didn't earn the emotions it tried so hard to achieve.

    • @layne721

I also lost my Mom to cancer, and the film 'started' to tug at my heartstrings, and then it just ran off the rails when it couldn't decide what the heck it was supposed to be.
Plus, I don't see how people would be so happy to materialize into a theme park. Where do they come from? How do they go from point a to be? why is there an entryway if they just seem to magically appear? This film should not be making me ask so many questions, this film should not be reminding me of the mess that was Brad Bird's "Tomorrowland!"

Well, this was a rather interesting video. I honestly had no thoughts on this movie until now. I always saw it as some weird Americanized version of the anime, Amagi Brilliant Park. But after hearing all of this, ABP has a better story than Wonder Park. If you want to see Wonder Park done right, watch Amagi Brilliant Park. You won’t be disappointed.
Also, for the record, the Spongebob 3D ride was originally created exclusively for the Paramount Parks. It wasn’t until around the time it was getting bought out by Cedar Fair that the attraction started going to different places. I’m sort of a geek that knows a good chunk of history behind the Paramount Parks (most specifically Great America and Kings Island).

I feel like the thing with June building the real rollercoaster could have been a funny joke, if it instead cut from the mom saying “Wonder Park can be real!” to June standing by as we hear her mom and dad apologize profusely to the other residents of the neighborhood, people being carried away on stretchers from the burning wreckage of the rollercoaster in the background. Then her mom walks up and says, “Maybe just a scale model.”
Then again, that would mean missing out on such comedic gold as the man with the toupee and “Thank Krishna!”

There's at least one place where Nickelodeon does currently have a pretty good theme park representation: Sea World on the Gold Coast, Australia.
Admittedly it is the park's requisite kids area, but there's no denying that they went all out with the theming with three Spongebob rides, two Dora the Explorer rides, and even a TMNT ride.

I live in Minnesota. Your hatred of Nickelodeon Universe is amusing. I grew up loving Camp Snoopy, particularly because of my love of Charles Schulz and the Peanuts Comics. When the licensing fell through and it was announced that the park would stop being Peanuts themed in 2006, only 6 years after Schulz's death, it was a painful blow to my childhood. By the time Nickelodeon took over the park, I was out of the age for the park and really didn't care

I wake up, open up Subscriptions, and I see this video. Not disappointed at the very least.
(But on a serious note, after hearing about what goes on in Wonder Park itself... I was planning on seeing it out of curiosity, but now I won't. And honestly, I can't blame Tony reacting the way he did- if anything, I can relate.
Back in May of 2013, I lost my dad to stage four brain cancer after having been diagnosed with it in March of 2012. Between those times, I was going to my final year of high school and having to deal with not only schoolwork and homework, but also not knowing how much time I had left (heck, I willingly skipped out on prom and Grad Night at Disneyland because family meant that much to me). However, I had to hide my emotions because I had been picked on already in high school by other students and because I had stuff to do, so I had to suck it up and go through senior year without suffering an emotional breakdown. Even when his health had taken a nosedive for the worse by the time graduation rolled around, I had to suppress my emotions so I could power through the ceremony and get my diploma- though I found out that he held on long enough until he knew that I had graduated.
To this day, I have yet to see a grief counselor about losing my dad. I feel like I am so busy with not only college, but also with going places, doing chores around the house, and all that, so I feel that I don't have the time to do so. So finding out how Wonder Park deals with the topic... feels like an insult for sure. I apologize if this went way too long, but I wasn't sure how to properly word all of it without going over too much detail.)
