Revisiting Prometheus (2012)

I take a look back at Prometheus (2012), Ridley Scott's ambitious but flawed return to the Alien franchise. This is a re-edit and re-upload of my earlier video from May 2024 in my new format ahead of my upcoming Alien: Romulus review.

What I did was flip the perspective around and instead of seeing it as predominantly Shaw + extras on a ship with a "mistrustworthy" Android ala Ripley and Ash I looked at it as predominantly David perspective and so an Android on a ship with his creator + other humans. Fassbender is fantastic and instead of seeing it as humans realising there is some pretty terrifying stuff in space ala Alien we see it as David becoming free of the shackles of his creator and moving further into a twisted universe
Rdiley didn't quite seem to "hit the mark" with this and Alien Covenant but David is one of the most fascinating characters in cinema history. The "Prequel Trilogy" seems to be fighting a tug of war between being Sci Fi and a Space Horror flick which it couldn't resolve. Agree the Engineer and Space Jockey conflation is lame

If you see the Ultimate Cut, there was flashback scene of Weyland giving a speech hence the younger actor. ironic that they deleted it as they should have just gone with an older actor

I haven't seen that, but it makes sense Weyland had scenes hit the cutting room floor. I remember saying to mates after watching the movie "Why Guy Pearce? Couldn't they find an old guy, would have saved a bit of work..."

I really love/hate Prometheus. It had so much potential but it managed to muddle everything into one big Meh.
The Alien never needed to be explained. The horror lies in staring into empty space, realizing the unfathomable darkness isn’t empty.

After half An hour into the movie I was begging for the alien to swoop in and kill em all. The crew was just idiotic.

In my opinion it's a really bad movie. A spaceship full of idiots doing stupid things. The guy taking of his helmet without knowing if the atmosphere was breathable... The pilot crashing the ship and kill himself after a 1 minute decision... The geologist who behaves not like a scientist... And on and on. The plot seems to be write by a children... After 30 min of watching the movie I was already on the Alien side. Hilarious...
