I'm happy to find a Prometheus enjoyer in the comments. It's... my favorite Alien movie. My opinion on it is that no one is wrong in their choice of favorite movie. We all like what we like and I personally liked the vibes of Prometheus. Some people really like the vibe of Aliens with what Jim Cameron infused into it. Some like the OG Alien for the cosmic horror and mystery. Some want new ground to be tread - some feel that too much deviation is bad and the removal of the cosmic horror aspect retroactively colors the originals. It's a very complex set of things. But I personally love the new lore added in the prequels, the parallels to god, creation, and all of that. Thats the depth I personally wanted out of the series vs. it staying simpler and more of a monster/cosmic horror franchise. I think it gets increasingly harder to maintain the mystery and horror of the Xeno if you choose not to expand. Romulus was a great example of this I think. The Xeno in that was fantastic - but I didn't get the butterflies in my stomach horror I felt with the originals. But... I did with the newborn engineer hybrid. So evolution and expansion of the lore, I think, is necessary.
Also, for the first _Alien_ movie they had early drafts of the script referring to a pyramid instead of a derelict craft, and they had deleted scenes featuring eggmorphing. These imply that many of the elements found in the prequels were considered early on.
I never realized how much they shot practically in this film. The effects were amazing but knowing they overlayed really good effects over that is awsome
right, it's closer to Frankenstein or At The Mountains of Madness. But there's STILL people who can't get over it, and others who somehow think AVP3 would be a good idea as long as there was some PULSE RIFLES this time.
Although it has a lot of problems I feel Prometheus wouldnt be hated as much if Covenant was a direct sequel that kept the same tone. The panic of swapping the focus back to the Xenomorphs felt rushed qnd lazy
I love Prometheus. I’m fascinated by the visuals and lore beyond any of the other Alien films, and the OG Alien is one of my favorite films ever. I’m so sad it received the backlash that it did upon release to where we ended up with Covenant as the follow-up.
I'm not sure if this or Covenant are the worst in the main series. And it's super weird how Ridley can make such bad movies but also some of my favourite movies of all time.
The characters keep making stupid decisions like touching the alien monster and running straight away from the rolling alien ship. But other than this, the movie was great.
I can appreciate the thought and work that went into this although the story is what held it back, either cut off the Alien stuff or create something NEW.
Prometheus is so fucking awesome, the fans are insane for hating it, i will never understand ppl who just want the same movie over and over again. They ran star wars into the ground
Though there's no denying how good this film looks, its populated with characters who are just... stupid!!! And unlikeable. A lot of really great actors completely wasted and it makes me wonder why no-one stopped at the script vetting stage and fired Lindeloff.
Yeah so many glaring errors and stupid ideas throughout the entire script. It made me quesiton just how "professional" many are in Hollywood. It's been downhill ever since. It also made me feel that Ridley Scott is really just taking the paychecks now over anything else. If he really cared, would he have gone with that script?
When the Prometheus movie was in the works, I was quite excited. Unfortunately, the movie we got (as most people will agree) was a bit of a mess. It's a shame as there we some good ideas in there.
I love Prometheus, and it would have been so cool if the story had been continued properly. Aspects of the David/Walter storyline in Covenant are super interesting, though.
The Prometheus ship looked like a fancier version of the nostromo. Of course rhe owner of the company has the best possible ship available. It still had design elements similar to the nostromo. You can see the inspiration in the design there 😊
I was very lucky. I got to see Prometheus in the theater without seeing any previews or reviews or discussions about it of any kind. I experienced it totally blind, and it became one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s Sci-Fi perfection. I think the reason most people trash the movie (other than herd mentality) is because they had a bunch of preconceived ideas of what they wanted it to be, possibly based on the cryptic horror themed trailers. Disliking Prometheus because it isn’t another copy/paste Xenomorph slasher movie is extremely low IQ. Thank god Romulus takes place in an inconsequential timeline between 2 existing films, and thank god Ridley is still alive to hopefully give a Prometheus sequel another try. David might be the coolest Sci-Fi villain ever and he deserves a proper conclusion.
I always have had a soft spot for Prometheus. It really was a concept that if it just had a few elements corrected and added in it could have been something truly special. But what I really appreciate about it is the idea to swing for the fences in a re-invention of what the franchise could be. I think there is to much rehashing of IP nowadays and studios really need to allow some fresh takes to content
I think expectations were a big factor but a lot of that was down to the marketing, the trailer was shot in exactly the same way as 'Alien', even had the iconic 'dur dur duuur' sound effect ffs. They should have created something completely outside of the franchise but of course they didn't have faith in the original vision to put bums on seats, they chickened out, promised everything to everyone and then delivered a confused mess (an epic looking mess with some great moments, to be fair).
@@adamdiggle1371 They recently messed up the trailer for Gladiator 2 also. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if that movie turns out to be amazing anyway. I wonder how much control Ridley or any Director even has over how their work is advertised when it’s finished? I’ll definitely make sure to avoid anymore marketing for that film before viewing it though. I’ve heard it a lot, but I’ve always felt that Prometheus WASN’T a “mess” at all. But maybe my tastes are strange. I also feel that (besides Prometheus) Pandorum and Chronicles Of Riddick are the best Sci-Fi movies of the past 20 years. Some might consider those “third rate”, but I find their atmosphere, set design, structure etc… to be exactly how science fiction should be done. It’s kind of a miracle Ridley was able to make such an old school feeling , thoughtful and moody sci-fi mystery in 2012, as opposed to the standard overhyped flashy, loud and simplistic reboot.
I saw the 3-hour making of Prometheus. They would make you think they were about to make something amazing. The saddest thing about this movie is how a lot of what is on the screen could have made way more sense if Ridley didn't remove a whole bunch of scenes thinking they were slowing the film down. It just ended up as a silly mess.
I saw this with my best friend in IMAX 3D. I remember us clinging to each other during the cesarean scene. Both of us let out a very audible “WTF!?!?” during that sequence. We had fun during that viewing.
I only liked the first two movies and Prometheus with Covenant. The expansion of the story, making It not just a horror but really deep philosophical story about the origins of humanity, God his creation really caught my attention. Later two movies are the pinnacle of underestimation by the auduance. Either the audience was not ready or they wanted another action, horror, sci-fi with superwoman kicking ass. The first one tried to please the audience giving action and strong woman, that's why I think It was weaker of the two. Covenant came and It was amazing. I still sometimes rewatch those movies and of those two Covenant stands out. Favourite scene was the opening one, same with the Covenant, Ridley did a great job on both of them.
Alien and Aliens were great because they committed to a genre - namely Horror and Action. The prequels don't commit to creating a certain experience. They're all over the place.
Did you enjoy Prometheus more than Alien or Aliens? I didn't. I went in looking for adrenaline, cause that's what Alien and Aliens were about. I was disappointed. The Prometheus horror/action sequences were basically covering the same ground, so they weren't exciting. And the world building was just dull. Yes, combining genres can work. But Alien and Aliens were more intense because they were focused. That was my point.
The line "God does not build in straight lines!" always irked me. There are absolutely straight lines, geometrical structures, and polygonal shapes that can be found in nature.
Love this movie. Not perfect but super ambitious, idk why people want more of the same. If you want to watch a monster chase around a space crew watch the og one
Id love an Alien movie where we learn more about the engineers, how/why they created the black goo and what was it meant for, did they intend to create Xenomorphs and if not how it'll backfired on them., their home world and the planets they kept the goo on like in Prometheus. Also id love to see some engineers make it to Earth and see the war that'd break out.
Another great video. I'm curious if they used 15/70 IMAX in some scenes? If so, is it the gigantic 3D IMAX film cameras or is it a 2D to 3D conversion? In another one of your videos, I remember you giving this film a mention of using IMAX film.
Guy was enthusiastic ehich makez more sense than some sabotage by cutting corners by disguising military personel as scientists and add the odd amateur here and there
The Engineer storyline is what made Prometheus a great film. People were eager to see Shaw and David travel to the Engineer homeworld and get the answers Shaw was looking for. But that whole storyline was butchered in Covenant because 20th Century Fox catered to toxic fans..
"Toxic fans" and that's why no one takes you seriously. I thought the engineer storyline was terrible. Then covenant was also terrible for different reasons. The engineers could have been a good idea if implemented in a satisfying way, actually answering the questions it asks. Instead it's just Damon Lindelof mystery box writing
I think Prometheus will go down as a sci fi classic. It's one of my favorite films of the 2010's. If you judge it on it's own standing and not have an expectation of it being an "Alien" film, then it's a great time.
I went in not knowing it was an alien film. And didn't figure it out till about 75% of the way in. I thought it was great it has its flaws but a must see indeed
Oh boy I liked how this was looking before Lindelof came in... and I hate the trope of irresponsible scientists... And he made them make the stupidest mistakes.
I really want a Space Jockey movie, were they in war against the Xenomorphs? Was the derelict a vessel, for the remaining eggs that haven't breached after winning a war against the Xenomorphs, was the Space Jockey the last member of their civilization after fighting against an overwhelming infestation, that costed their entire civilization to end, with one last survivor transporting the eggs while drifting throughout LV-426, to destroy them on a different planet?

Also, for the first _Alien_ movie they had early drafts of the script referring to a pyramid instead of a derelict craft, and they had deleted scenes featuring eggmorphing. These imply that many of the elements found in the prequels were considered early on.
I never realized how much they shot practically in this film. The effects were amazing but knowing they overlayed really good effects over that is awsome
LOVE Prometheus. I don't consider it an entry in the Alien Franchise, but rather an addition to the lore of the universe and its own thing.
right, it's closer to Frankenstein or At The Mountains of Madness. But there's STILL people who can't get over it, and others who somehow think AVP3 would be a good idea as long as there was some PULSE RIFLES this time.
Agreed, it's just beautiful to me.
It’s very much an entry in the Alien franchise, and I fuckin love it.
i am watching this series before the release of romulus, i have enjoyed every video
I only recently watched Prometheus and I loved it so much and in my opinion Micheal Fassbender and Noomi Rapace absolutely CARRIED this film
Like others have stated, awesome series! I am a huge aliens and predator fan. Thank you
I'm not sure if this or Covenant are the worst in the main series. And it's super weird how Ridley can make such bad movies but also some of my favourite movies of all time.
AVP robbing us of a Ridley Scott/James Cameron produced Alien 5 is biggest tragedy in all of this.
These vids don’t get enough views, they’re great
Appreciate it!
The characters keep making stupid decisions like touching the alien monster and running straight away from the rolling alien ship. But other than this, the movie was great.
drinking from a glass after the robot put his finger in it
Yep! That was a stupid thing to do. I guess he was too drunk to notice.
I can appreciate the thought and work that went into this although the story is what held it back, either cut off the Alien stuff or create something NEW.
Loving the series!!!
Almost over! 2 more to go
Such a well crafted series of docs.
Can we hope to see it expanded to AVP and Predator ? Their production's stories are as dense as the alien saga.
I really loved this movie thought it was a great start for the alien franchise.
Lindelof was the bigest issue with this production.
His script was terrible.
100% Hearing him speak just confirms what a dolt he is.
Prometheus is so fucking awesome, the fans are insane for hating it, i will never understand ppl who just want the same movie over and over again. They ran star wars into the ground
To understand them , compare it to 2001

Give Ridley a good script and he will create magic, just don’t let him pick it cause he doesn’t know what a good script is lol😂
I agree with Roger Ebert.I loved the 3d and saw it 4 times in the cinema in Bangkok.
It was a mess, but man I still love watching it haha
Been waiting for this one!
Ah, I was hoping you would make this. Subbed as thanks :D
i binge watched these tonight,,, warm and slimy feelings in my chest... . . . .
It’s kind of a miracle Ridley was able to make such an old school feeling , thoughtful and moody sci-fi mystery in 2012, as opposed to the standard overhyped flashy, loud and simplistic reboot.
how tf you releasing these so quick😭
😅 I have a really streamlined production process I've developed
@@FrameVoyagerkeep it up, love the videos
I saw the 3-hour making of Prometheus. They would make you think they were about to make something amazing. The saddest thing about this movie is how a lot of what is on the screen could have made way more sense if Ridley didn't remove a whole bunch of scenes thinking they were slowing the film down. It just ended up as a silly mess.
What was it called? Where did you watch it?
@@t3chnicolor It's called Furious gods: The making of Prometheus. I found it here on TH-cam. It's a good watch.
I saw this with my best friend in IMAX 3D. I remember us clinging to each other during the cesarean scene. Both of us let out a very audible “WTF!?!?” during that sequence. We had fun during that viewing.
I felt the pain of all the running, falling, bending, stretching and possible tearing. Did she just heal really fast, like Ripley did?
You do realize a film can have more than one genre right prometheus have more drama and mystery to them
You do realize a film can have more than one genre right prometheus have more drama and mystery to them
Did you enjoy Prometheus more than Alien or Aliens?
2:07 I would love to see you make a production video for both of the AVP disasters.
an absolute MASTERPIECE!
Prometheus was not well received when it was first released but over time it has become a masterpiece and perhaps the best entry in the Alien series
One of my all time favorite movies
One of my favorite movies
Such an impressive production with people working extremely hard to bring to life one of the dumbest scripts ever written. Tragic.
Spot on
Another great video. I'm curious if they used 15/70 IMAX in some scenes? If so, is it the gigantic 3D IMAX film cameras or is it a 2D to 3D conversion? In another one of your videos, I remember you giving this film a mention of using IMAX film.
Oh, look, a space snake! Here, boy!
Those scenes are so frustrating. It should have been such a crazy good film, they just had to make everyone dumb lol
Sickk, would love to see some videos on the production/making of iconic anime’s like Akira, ghost in the shell etc
Prometheus is my favorite movie
Oh boy I liked how this was looking before Lindelof came in... and I hate the trope of irresponsible scientists... And he made them make the stupidest mistakes.
"Prometheus" is what happens when no one will tell a director "No."
Prometheus by far is the best looking Alien movies.
I am very, very glad with the fact that ridley Scott was not much involved with alien Romulus
We need a part 3 that makes up for covenant and actually gives us some answers 😩
The Awesomeness that Is Continues!! 👊😎✊😆👌😆👍😎🍁
After all these years, I'm still trying to like Prometheus.
Instead of I replacing Spaights , I would have added him to a panel including Grant Morrison and Steven Moffat
I hope you do AVP and AVP 2! 😍
Artlist music. Nice👌
I like the first half of the Prometheus movie.
