Alexander Hamilton IT.ALWAYS.HAPPENS.TO.ME. Here's how it goes " so what instrument do you play?" "Viola" "You mean violin?" "No Viola." "What's that?" " RAGGGEEEEEEEE"
John Merill that's exactly why I mean lol. Must be painful as hell. I'm going to Iceland in April and I'm afraid a few bassists are coming, so we will see how they struggle.
As a cellist who travels with her cello a lot I STRONGLY suggest pre-boarding. You avoid all the weird comments and request to perform on the plane on the way back to your seat. Also it’s just way easier to get the cello in the seat not having to worry about knocking anybody out. Now any other time you just have to suck it up, answer the questions, and smile!
*sigh* I should've picked the violin. But I'm too attached to my cello now. I'm currently trying to persuade my parents to let me take my cello on our drive from California to Utah. A week is a long time to be away from my baby lol...
Jewel Helligar haha yes that sounds like it's a pretty long drive!! Sometimes you have to just make these choices when you have a larger instrument but it's gonna be ok, you'll be back with it in no time! :) -J
Haha I actually used to have eye stickers on my cello case and whenever I was flying I knew the person sitting behind the cello would have a cello viciously staring at them throughout the flight 🙈(I always put my cello the flat side of the case facing up, since on low cost airlines there's even less space...)
0:00 Shostakovich: Cello Concerto 1 in E-Flat Major, 1st movement 0:20 Fauré: Élégie in C Minor 0:41 Rossini: William Tell Overture, final part 2:20 Mozart: Piano Sonata No. 11 in A Major, 3rd movement “Rondo alla Turca” Love ur vids! Keep it up ❤️
i play cello too it's my nightmare when borad on train with my cello you have to take it down from your shoulder when enter the train and take it into the narrow train with huge people
I just flew Transatlantic with a band of 51 students to preform in Europe and we had to rent another school bus just to bring our luggage and instruments to the airport for us, and yes that included a stand-up Bass. Not to mention the bass drum, numerous toms, xylophone, bells, baritone saxophones and tubas. I feel your pain!
Also.. don’t be rude to people who ask questions that you (cellist) might think is obvious. I feel like a lot of conflicts come from defensiveness and just plain people don’t know anything about cello and think they’re helping and know best when they... don’t. My “favorite” are people who think cellos or their cases are best to lean diagonally in corners 😱😡🤬😫, or folks who *tell you* if your instrument will or won’t fit when...yes it will fit because..you’ve done this before. (Lyft/cabs are pretty bad about this argument.. the trunk isn’t a good place for it) But I found I had better luck if I smile back and be friendly or say nothing. That’s even better . They will get the hint and let you carry on with your travels and remember it as a day they ran into that awesome cellist. Sometimes you cannot get away with buying a ticket for your cello btw. It can be a burden if this happens and then you may need to check your cello and it not be properly packed for that! Get a flight case or rent one if you have to check it(in that case you have to just intend to check it) Tune strings down 1/2 step and chill out and don’t be a nervous wreck to the staff. Be nice to the front and specify what it is and that it’s fragile (but be nice how you say it). 7/10 times you won’t have to pay oversize.
i had to travel from missouri to mid texas with my bass on a train. i had to go up and down escalators and elevators with my huge bass. man, it sucked.
My daughter started with the cello then moved to the bass. For years we had to take to vehicles to her concerts. If the whole family goes we still have to. I miss her cello.
Accurate, especially the travelling. Last Friday my school traveled to a different school to represent ours. The cellos had a difficult time getting loaded on the buses and it was difficult for me not to graze someone's side getting in.
Yes, yes! I've been a cellist ever since 1960: and as an American-born musician who has spent the better part of his life in Europe, I know all about it. This video reminded me of an article that the great cellist Janos Starker published several decades back, recounting his difficulties traveling aboard airplanes with his instrument. The article was entitled "The African adventures of Lord Aylesford" (the name of the Stradivari on which he was playing at the time). If I'm ever reborn, I'm going to take up the piccolo. (Not really; I love playing the cello!)
Thank you very much for your kind Information! I'm an Opera-Tenor-Violist 🎶 😯🎻,I fly once in a while with my Viola it is also tricky, especially Airlines such as Ryanair Wizzair 😬,also by us in Germany with the Deutsche Bahn also hard with space! Next month I'm going to travel with my Viola for a Music-Projekt to Nothern Brandenburg 2 hours north of Berlin, with a German Low Cost Train Carrier called "Flixtrain",hope it will work with the Viola 😬🙏🍀🍀🍀 Again, Thank you so much and I wish you all the best for you 🍀🍀🍀🎻= in this case à la Cello😊, Greetings from Europe 🇪🇺 "German French Swiss Border Area 🇩🇪🇨🇵🇨🇭" ,Lörrach, Germany 🇩🇪, to the US 🇺🇸 Yours, Josha 🙋♂️
It's even more fun when you have a tight connection and have to race through a huge, crowded terminal with cello and carryon, trying not to knock over too many other people in the rush, and end up one of the last to board the plane so you're leaving a trail of bruised arms and legs in your wake. I used to put a hat and scarf on my cello case when I was in college. ;-)
I know how you feel ... I'm a cellist AND I take the bus to school but I have come to a silent understanding with the bus driver/s and no longer have to push it through the narrow alley and get annoyed looks or looks that make it seem as though I'm an alien rather than a music student YAY
hahaha wow!! who knew that there were so many D&J Productions haha so many D and J names I guess :) and that is so sweet of you to say, thanks fo much for liking/commenting/subscribing and for watching our videos! will definitely go check out your channel too haha -J
I'm a begginer cellist (been playing for about a year) and my teacher had a whole lesson for my class (all cellos and 4 basses) about the dangers of airplanes he even showed us how to pack your cello before its to late.
I'm a French horn player who doesn't have a hard case and I relate to all this too damn hard. Especially since it's, you know, made of metal. Pain in the ads to get through airport security
My cello went as checked baggage exactly once, for a chartered flight with my youth symphony. Arrangements had been made for special handling for the several large instruments on the trip. Apparently the arrangements were only for the going part of the trip. On the return, I was lucky my cello survived intact! The idiots at baggage dumped my poor baby down the oversized luggage claim chute neck first and on its bridge!!! It never went in baggage ever again. Better to be broke than broken!
It's harder for me to travel on the bus with this thing. And yes I have a cello. And every day it's pretty annoying holding the cello upwards because it always tips over and leg space is narrow
I had to take an uber to lessons yesterday with my brother and i play 3 instruments, i didn’t bring my bass clarinet so i “only” had to brig my clarinet and cello. We sat in the back with it across the entire seats lmao
Today I was running for the bus to get to my cello lesson and WHILE I’M RUNNING this old man goes ”Oh, what’s that instrument?” and I say it’s a cello and he asks how long I’ve been playing and now I have to stop running so it doesn’t get awkward and just UGHHHHHH
Haha yes I've gotten that too, it's nice to share about your instrument and music in general, like what we do but of course it is no short answer and it's always hard to fully answer all these continual questions in a short passing! ;) I feel ya! -J
Playing the cello has taught me how to put my foot down and tell people when I have to walk away or just how to walk away from conversations because of exactly situations like that. The other similar conversation that makes me want to yell are those people who say “that’s a cello!” And seem so proud of them self and they are not children.. but seem to expect a cookie for their instrument birdwatching 🤣
And I though traveling with a viola was hard... I mean most of our cases dont fit in the carry on (top) so I always break a rule and place my case complete horizontally....
I remember me and my family went to Vienna and I said: "I need to practice so I'm bringing my guitar with me. Make a choice: plane or train. I dont want my instrument to get broken" so we went by train and I was constantly checking on the guitar even at night
Now imagine a double bass for a second!!
Sam Grinshpun I’m imagining your language sir.
It's Me, what do you think my language is?
Because obviously, I speak another language..
Nurmasha, I play viola😂
Alexander Hamilton IT.ALWAYS.HAPPENS.TO.ME.
Here's how it goes
" so what instrument do you play?"
"Viola"
"You mean violin?"
"No Viola."
"What's that?"
" RAGGGEEEEEEEE"
John Merill that's exactly why I mean lol. Must be painful as hell. I'm going to Iceland in April and I'm afraid a few bassists are coming, so we will see how they struggle.
Everyone, lets take a moment of silence for all off the persistent, dedicated, and determined cellists out there...
Now think about bassists
Dont forget those who play the bass
Thanks my dude
THANK YOU!!!!!

But great video!!
Ifetayo Ali yes! That's right, we do have preboarding privileges and I really helps. I always do preboarding on flights :) -J
I tell them i only play slayer. Might as well laugh with them
I swear the people in the plane didn't grow out of high school.
*ga-ling-ling-a-ling-a*
How did twoset jokes get here??
Edit: wow i thought its a ling ling joke its actually a joke
@@melancholicruby2873 same buddy same😂
Not funny.
As a cellist, I’ve never been more horrified to see 0:16 . Let’s take a moment of silence for this poor cello.
I love your videos, you and twosetviolin are my absolute favorite musician you tubers. Can’t wait for the next one, 🤗
Yes! TwoSet
TH-cam BandWatcher that is too kind of you to say!! Me and Doris are huge twoset fans too! Thanks so much for watching our video~ -J
SAMEEEEEEEEEEEEE
TWOSET WOOOOOOOO
The worst part is when you’re holding your suitcase, purse/bag, backpack, and cello and PEOPLE DONG EVEN OPEN THE DOOR FOR YOU
Yeah sometimes I have trouble traveling with my concert piano
Roshan Rai just walking around carrying a piano😂
I have to carry piano and violin
Now i play double bass
You can move pianos????
*sigh* I should've picked the violin. But I'm too attached to my cello now. I'm currently trying to persuade my parents to let me take my cello on our drive from California to Utah. A week is a long time to be away from my baby lol...
Jewel Helligar haha yes that sounds like it's a pretty long drive!! Sometimes you have to just make these choices when you have a larger instrument but it's gonna be ok, you'll be back with it in no time! :) -J
Jewel Helligar I play both violin and cello. So like I carry them both in my back, one on one shoulder one on the other
I play violin but love the cello too. So I'm thinking of learning that as well.
*Eyes??*
You forgot people asking: "So how long have you played the guitar ?"
So many people..... Why? Don’t they teach music in school. I would know I’m in 7th grade. They have taught the instruments multiple times.
Haha I actually used to have eye stickers on my cello case and whenever I was flying I knew the person sitting behind the cello would have a cello viciously staring at them throughout the flight 🙈(I always put my cello the flat side of the case facing up, since on low cost airlines there's even less space...)

This is accurate
i play cello too
it's my nightmare when borad on train with my cello

Now imagine a bass
Please no
Please
@@h0vea i play bass FML but im too attached
Nice video! I was wondering how you would travel with a cello.
I also like the Turkish March in the background. As a pianist who studied that peice and loves playing it, I liked it lol
And yeah Mozart is definitely my favorite composer!! -D
XD
Sam Grinshpun Same! I learned it too that I forgot what the video and been listening to it XD
(PS: I love the video, now imagine a pianist...? Idk
Aria Alegna with any good instrument, the struggle is always there lol
But cool!
I really like that you actually can use a cello case for a case of clothes and stuff
Also.. don’t be rude to people who ask questions that you (cellist) might think is obvious. I feel like a lot of conflicts come from defensiveness and just plain people don’t know anything about cello and think they’re helping and know best when they... don’t. I feel like I need to go find a cello player just to be super nice to them.
I’m here if you need me! A lot of people don’t appreciate how hard it is. Especially when you’re 12 years old.
Four words:
Try playing the bass
ez, play a couple open low notes
TheDavo 17 you mean like how a cellist would play canon in D
+Koopie B I'm a bassist. We normally have to put our basses with the cargo in an oversized 'travel case' - a giant hard case with wheels.
I play bass

great video!

WORTH IT
Probably the only reason I'm glad I picked violin

so freaking relatable...
getting on a bus with a huge backpack and trapper keeper along with a cello is also really hard lol
I liked that answer actually. "Always". That would have made me smile.
Ha now I play the bass you should try these with a BASS impossible

I actually did put googly eyes on my case and the reactions are great
I can relate, similar to euphonium
I remember one miserable bus trip home from college when there was only one seat for both me and my cello. Pretzel time!
It freaked out and screamed when I saw the damaged cellos.
Don't worry about the haters ur amazing
It's even more fun when you have a tight connection and have to race through a huge, crowded terminal with cello and carryon, trying not to knock over too many other people in the rush, and end up one of the last to board the plane so you're leaving a trail of bruised arms and legs in your wake.

Now try traveling with a 6" Double Bass that weighs 70 pounds due to the case. It's a nightmare.
I love your vids i looked up d&j productions when you had like 15 subs now you have 1000 subs. I subscribed and liked

I'm about to learn how to play cello

It’s too expensive to buy a hard case for a 3/4 size cello my parents say I have to wait till I get a full size till I can get a hard case. The PAIN!!
The last time I put my cello as checked baggage, they almost broke my cello case......
susan xxx that's happened to me once whenever I checked my cello, they broke my cello case and fingerboard haha never again!! -J

Amazing vid! :D
This is legit me every single day
Me when I have to take the school bus with my acoustic guitar and it is full of people and it is hard to not break at every movement of the bus
I play the violin, and it's easy to travel with it :D
omg you are so funny XD I want to see more
You’re two tickets were the price of one of mine to Denver in February. I paid 680 for two seats on southwest and i almost died when i saw the price.
now, I've bought the wrong case. I have the bobelock 2000w. it's so big. I wonder if I could check it in.
Show this to your friend that plays the flute and says their flute is heavy
Omg thats so TRUE
this makes me rethink my life decision after playing the cello for 9 years .......
One perk with base, they can't throw it XD!!! Unless they like 12 ft tall
I bump into corners, desks, people... You name it. 😔
It's harder for me to travel on the bus with this thing. And yes I have a cello. And every day it's pretty annoying holding the cello upwards because it always tips over and leg space is narrow

*It's True*
I play cello, I know your pain girl.
that's why I play the organ 😂😂 never had to carry one before... thank god hahaha
I know the struggles, I play the tuba, luckily I've never had to fly with it lmao
I'm glad that I chose the viola over the cello..
Awww I wish I knew how to play the cello
At least you're not stuck with the huge, yet loveable double bass like me.
And I though traveling with a viola was hard...
I mean most of our cases dont fit in the carry on (top) so I always break a rule and place my case complete horizontally....
i already have struggles with my guitar + speaker
I PLAY BASS AND IT'S LIKE 0879865387879 TIMES HARDER THAN TRAVELING WITH A CELLO
RayIsOurLordAndSaviorDon'tDenyIt ikr I play the bass to... But its also really hard to get down steps
Blue moon pack True duude
It's already difficult to travel with my violin so I can't even imagine how you can deal with it 😲
I didnt know you can bring something oversized like that... kudos to u
I remember me and my family went to Vienna and I said: "I need to practice so I'm bringing my guitar with me. Make a choice: plane or train. I dont want my instrument to get broken" so we went by train and I was constantly checking on the guitar even at night
i splay alot of sting instruments and the piano and cello was my worst pain
But it’s all worth it when you see other cellists on public transport and make that eye contact because you understand each other’s pain
I hate the way kids in my class spell Cello they say "chello" or pronounces it sello
Edit: and then they sing cardi B
Umm.. Traveling with a double bass??
Yes!!!!
Ouch... the broken cellos ;--; my heart;-;
I’m so happy I’m a violist
hahaha *points finger* i have a violin, suckers!! *eats 350 snickers while on a flight to Perú*
xD
Naw bro massive respects for our Bass players
Phew imma violin
*sits in her upright bass stool while watching this and laughs*
When does the music start, always?
For me train and buses have been enough. Luckily I have not needed travel with cello by plane. I have played almost 27 years....
i’m dying from the edits xD
I feel sorry for you. I usually fit my flute in my backpack 🤣
My best friend is a cellist. Sadly we live in New York City.
0:19 how name this peace?
