I play the cello and I am super tiny so when people see me with my instrument they're like " That thing's bigger than you" My thoughts: it's a foot shorter than me...
As a pianist, i really respect string players, especially cellists and contrabass players (bassists?). It's very tiresome to carry the heavy instruments everywhere but string players still dont give up on their dreams. You guys have my respect 🙏
I'm a pianist, an organist and a guitarist. I really respect Cellist, because of their travel problems. But we, which are pianist, can't move our strument, so we can't play everywhere and when we want. I think that it's a big problem, bigger than the weight of a cello. My girlfriend is a cellist, and I often move her cello, so I know that the weight of a cello isn't higher than the weight of an acoustic guitar. Sorry for my English, but I'm Italian, and peace :)
Thank you for saying cello and bass because I feel like whenever someone mentions something about the cello that applies to the bass they never say bass lol
The chair struggle is so real. In my orchestra they had 4 chairs that were taller than the rest and we had 5 people who needed them so everyday it was a bloodbath in the fight for a proper chair.
@Flávio, Tbh I'd like to learn both the bass and cello, but sadly my bank account doesn't currently accommodate the number of instruments I'd like to learn. xD
Well, I started learning the cello last year and I am over 6.6' (2,03m) tall, and it works just fine. Sometimes I have to stack two chairs together to have the right height to sit, and the door problem for me is a bit bigger, because first I have to look out to not hit my head against the doorframe, and then i need to watch the cello case. But on the bright side: Its still better than if I would have learned the piano, because now I can't even get my knees under the piano when I sit :D
Goodness, props to you man! That would be quite the undertaking. xD And I can relate to not being able to get your knees under pianos... thankfully mine can still fit under most, but every now and again they don't.
Though its all worth it because of how beautiful the music sounds and how fun it is to learn it. ( unless your parents forced hell on you to play it then yeah )
As a 6'6 (198 cm I write it down because I had to make the conversion) cellist, this video is so true. You could have add also the C peg disturbing your neck posture, I had to change it for a smaller one ( the peg not the neck even if it could have been useful too). I was thinking that everyone was able to play and tune at the same time, because it is so easy for me. Really good video indeed!
I love your video. A new cello player I am 5'7". You can tune in a neat way, plus reach more than an octave! I like your cello case, too, it is a candy-apple red colour. You going through the door with your cello was funny, and your trying out chairs was hilarious. Great video! Thanks!
I am the same hight, 5' 11 3/4," I have the same problems and 14, youngest youngest in the orchestra. Also good job playing Amadeus, we just performed it yesterday.
Great video! :-) I find a bent spike helps too. My chair's as tall as is practical, and the bent spike lifts the bottom of the cello up away from my knees, whilst keeping the fingerboard in the same place relative to my arms and head.
Alyssa Lawson, I'm a cellist and this is sooo helpful lol, but I'm definitely going to need that summer job for this 200 dollar chair lol I really need a better chair so it will be worth it :)
Blaine Measel, my son is also a tall cellist. He has one of the tall cello chairs, which is great, but we also found this cello cushion to be helpful. It is much easier to travel with, and makes most chairs usable. He has a 5 inch cushion. www.celloseatcushions.com : )
I am a really tall bass player and I once tried to play cello, but there are a couple of problems: 1. Needs more bass 2.I am used to thicker strings(especially the bass e string) and I just couldn't get a thick sound because I was pressing too hard. 3. At my orchestra cellists carry their cello when we travel, but bassists have their basses carried for them which is a plus. So yeah, I prefer bass.
I feel you an a spiritual level, I'm roughly 6 feet as well, and I have to deal with those crappy school chairs. I asked to use an unused stool in the corner and the instructor won't let me use it, even though it is the most comfortable thing for my to play in.
I’m a violin player and in 3rd Grade my friend let me try their Cello and this is my reaction *thinking*”Nani da f how do you play this this giant!?” P.S I was like 4.2 or 4.1 at the time so rip.
Now days, can 5 ft 11 be considered tall? I think it is relative. In Holland the average height is 6ft for man. I am this high and feel pretty average. But I guess it can be considered tall for woman.
I'm a violinist, who is self-taught in cello, and while I may not be tall, I know of many other cellists in my orchestra who would agree with this whole video.
CANNOT RELATE im short and my feet literally didnt touch the ground on one of the chairs for my performances. I was so uncomfortable. #ShortCellistsMatter

Sameeee
@@deniz-6322 may i know, what is the cello size you play?
@@deniz-6322 thanks.i consider to learn piano and we've same heights. I am 155cm. I don't really sure which size suitable for me.
I'm 6'5" and when people see me with my cello they're like "wasn't the cello a bigger instrument"
Can you do short cellists next??
HAHAHA yes perhaps someday! We are both short cellists so we can probably come up with some ideas for that, thanks! -J
@@djproductions1161 maybe you can consider about the left hand position, which is hard for short beginners to overcome

The chair struggle is so real. In my orchestra they had 4 chairs that were taller than the rest and we had 5 people who needed them so everyday it was a bloodbath in the fight for a proper chair.
But like why in every band or orchestra room is there the same exact chair
I recognized The Chair from my band class in high school! (Granted, I graduated in 2017, but...)
RIGHT. But we have separate chairs for cellos, not all of us use them tho , I’m 5’6 so it comes in handy 😂😂
If I ever end up learning cello, I wonder what that would be like... I'm over 6' tall. xD
Joshua Morgan learn the bass hahah
You can do it!!! -J

This is soooo:
Me True Real
I am a tall cellist btw😁
Problems I'll never have 😅😂
I'm 5,7 and I'm 10 and I play the cello :-(
Great video. Alyssa brings all the tall cellists to the yard!
I will never have these problems bc I'm stuck at 5 feet
This is so funny. Just started to learn cello and it felt awkward every time I sat. Maybe because I am 6′3″. :D I should have bought a double bass.
I feel you. I usually have to sit on 2 stacked chairs in orchestra rehearseal
LOL ur kidding right omg HAHA -J
I play cello and my best friend plays violin. Sometimes we'll switch instruments but it's so funny because he's 6 foot 5.
I educated myself today at some of the issues I will face (I am 5'10") when learning the cello. Thanks❗

Me, a 5’0 violinist trying her hardest to relate
Damn thats small, im 6‘6 foot and when i am playing the violin i look like im playing the smallest one ever found
Woaah these octaves👌😂 and the tuning

im 6 2 and the cello end pin is too short
Perhaps you can use tortellier end pin
I'm 5'10" and full size and it is SO HARD to go somewhere with such tiny chairs lol
The struggle is real
Me.... But the other way around. I'm 4"10 and a 1/2 size cello.
Saw this and was blown away… my exact height is also 5’11” 3/4 and I need that chair
Where did you get that chair?
It's an Adjustrite Musician's Chair, the tall version:-)
Alyssa Lawson, I'm a cellist and this is sooo helpful lol, but I'm definitely going to need that summer job for this 200 dollar chair lol I really need a better chair so it will be worth it :)

1:33 that was the beginning of brevals comcertino I 😍😍 ma fav piece😍😍
tunning with two hands looks so good👍
I know exactly how this is!! I'm a 15 year old cellist. (I'm 6 foot 4)
I can understand her I'm a tall cellist too (hope you read it) . I love you guys
Cellist here, I started as a child, and ended up at 6'6". The stage guitar stool is the one for me. ;)
i've hit my cello atleast 10 times on the top of the door because the studio im in has SUPER SHORT DOOR FRAMES LIKE
MEEEEE I AM A 6FT CELLO PLAYER AND THIS IS 100% ACCURATE!!!!! So Happy this was brought to light.
You should make a video about how to apply in that school. Costs and etc.
And also about the city, rent, food, etc. THAT would be awsome.

that's why I always want to lean against the back of the chair but I can't. It's impossible when I practise at home because it's so uncomfortable
Does anyone know the song at 2:49?
It's W.A. Mozart - Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K. 183; 1st movement :)
0:20?
D an J production why does alyssa only have three pegs
Where did you get your special cello chair?
I’m a violin player and in 3rd Grade my friend let me try their Cello and this is my reaction *thinking*”Nani da f how do you play this this giant!?” P.S I was like 4.2 or 4.1 at the time so rip.
I can't do an octave xD guess my hands are too small. I'm only in like 8th grade with a full size cello.
WhErE cAN I gEt THAT CHaIR?!?!?! I need it, so much better than struggling to find a piano stool everywhere you go
I'm a 5'2 and a cellist I may be wrong but I think it's easier to be shorter and play cello
What's the song on 2:50
Symphony No. 25 in G Minor, K. 183, 1st Mvt.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Yo I feel the front back back struggle. I think all cellist do especially if you're a student
I'm 185cm, I feel you
I'm a small double bass player. I'm the only bass in my orchestra and I'm 5'1
I’m 5’7”, which is tall for my age, especially a female, but I never encounter any of these issues probably because I’m not insanely tall.
my friend says cellos aare only for short ppl because in our orchestra, short ish ppl play cello -.-
I was gonna play cello, but then my family moved and my new school doesn't have an orchestra also I'm 12 y/o and over 5'5 sooo
i’m 14, so i haven’t fully grown yet, but my dad is 6 and a half feet tall, i’m worried for my sanity in orchestra.
Now days, can 5 ft 11 be considered tall? I think it is relative. In Holland the average height is 6ft for man. I am this high and feel pretty average. But I guess it can be considered tall for woman.

I'm so thankful I'm a violinist/tubist
There’s no way she’s 5’11” Im 6’! Is that what I look like compared to others?
I had the same thought.
I have the same problems!
where did you get the chair?
I’m going to 5th grade next year and I’m like, 5’2 so uh...yeah...5’2 is pretty big for my age (thanks dad!) which is 10 .-.
Hi I am 15 and I'd like to start playing the cello, it is not too late to start playing?
I'm 6'5..... the cello struggle is real
Piece in the beginning and at 0:19?
Jonatan Kraft Beginning is Rockelbel’s Canon by ThePianoGuys.
Why don't you use the full size cello?
I think the intro and ending song are still the strongest problem :'v
Hahaha muito bom!!! Very Cool!!
Tall bass player here I have a wooden block to higher instruments with short endpins haha
was that sonata by breval?
Genesis Satcherwhite I think so I played it before
No, there wasn't a sonata at all in this video. Which piece are you referring to?
At 1:28 weren't those the first chords of the breval sonata in c major?
Mystical- Tanki Online and more! Hahaha yeah I’d recognise those chords anywhere XD
D&J productions at 1:29
I'm a tall person and I play the bass, the struggle is real for both. I'm jealous of violinists.
Another problem, I keep hitting my stand partner with my long ass noodle arms.
She uses 3/4 size at 5 foot 11 inches?
Im a short cellist, and people say "THAT'S WAY TOO BIG FOR U, GET A VIOLIN INSTEAD" im like "Bruh, idc"
My friend is 5'11 and she is 13 yrs old
LUCKY ME I'M SHORT! HAHAHAHAHAHAHhahahaha...he...he...*sobs* (;~;)
me: goes from YA GOTTA DOOOOO whatcha GOTTa dooooooooyeah... (decendents 3) to cellooo...
How tall is Sophia Bacelar
I feel your pain
I'm 5'10
CANNOT RELATE im short and my feet literally didnt touch the ground on one of the chairs for my performances. I was so uncomfortable. #ShortCellistsMatter
I’m 4’7 and I have a 3/4
*clicks video*
*Canon in D starts playing*
Every fucking time.
Me siento tan identificada jaja
I use the same chair
My teacher can tune with two hands too and she's not even tall... Still a mystery to me 🤔
meanwhile im 5’2 into my 3rd year of playing the cello 😂
I mean, I’m a violinist so I automatically don’t have to deal with 3/4 of these problems
4:34 wait we have the same height.
Video: Tall cellist
Me: Small cellist who stopped growing and play with a 7/8 cello
i am six one and i have to pull my endpin all the way out hahaha
I was surprised to see how short these girls were next to someone who’s 5’11” I’m a cellist and I’m 6’2”
Hahahahaha very cool!!! :D
5'11 is considered a tall cellist?? Lol I'm 6'5 and I'm trying to learn how play it 😭😭😭
I want that chair!!!
Idk why you have to carry your cello around school. Our school provided us with a cello that stays at home
Not as tall, but 5'9 was enough to get a bigger endpin.
I am 5’1 and I play the flute so, why am I here?
6'2 cellist, this speaks volumes.
I'm not the only one!
Sigh... yep
I am 4'11 what am I doing here
YEH BOI
