Great video especially at around 3:45 showing what it takes (20 seconds) to break the glass. That was my biggest fear. If the flame hits the mount and not the glass, I guess that will give you even more time to remove the mount. I ended up using a long nose plier pulling it very lightly while flaming it with the blow torch. Took about 10 seconds and it came right out. Made my day! Thanks a bunch. Install rear view mirror buttons about 6 times in the past but this is the first I have to remove one.

I am pleased that you had in this video, displaying an estimated time for glass to crack...im needing to remove the base, that has the button, and the base still has the socket where the mirror originally broke to begin with. I have my new mirror, adhesive kit..etc..but have been hesitant to do it because of weather and worried I'll crack the glass...we'll see...
    Again, thanks for informative video...

You're a God! 🤣 Like a true moron I glued the puck on backwards! I began chisel the glue from behind. Nothing! Then I saw your video and bingo! Thank you so much man! You made my life that much easier!
Btw I used a BBQ starter lighter for about 5 seconds.

I would suggest using a small magnet with tape to protect from scratches on the outside of the glass to hold the button in place. Try to find a magnet just big enough that it holds the button and the button holds the magnet from falling also.

Cmon why do you want to take the windshield out to get the button off. It supposed to be simple and quick.

Do the new windshields come from the factory with the sticker applied? I prefer not having a windshield mirror, but I'm left with the mount and wide sticker.

Hey there I’m not sure what you were referring to about the sticker if you’re referring to the glue that’s left over you can scrape that off or use a scotch pad to clean it.
Most every windshield that comes from the warehouse is I purchase them come with a review mirror attached to them unless they originally did not have one on them

So I bought a car and they tried to install a mirror but the button they put on is too big for the mirror and the other button that is included fits. Am I suppose to glue the other button on top of it?

I'm not sure why they'd include a button for a mirror that was too big for the mirror to slide on

no just remove the old button and glue the one that fits properly

Can I use this method to remove a vent window latch on my 73 Fiat? I recently glued it back on successfully, but like moron I put it on in the wrong latch position - I need to rotate the base 90 degrees. Thanks...

Really depends what the handle is made out of.

@@jsautoglass6029 It's all metal, right up to the glass. I'll try the torch then?

@@finespecimen i would try it but use a low flame and keep it away from the glass. Tempered glass will pop if heated too much
