  • Why Shoe Trees Are Important. Would you wash your hands then wipe them on the floor? You wouldn't, so why would you buy some nice shoes and not put shoe trees in them?
    Shoe trees are one of the best things that you can do for your shoes. And remember, take care of your shoes, and your shoes will take care of you.

    For the knob problem, I solve this by taking those disposable chopsticks (unused of course), Stick the eating end into the hole and break off the chopstick, Re-screw the knob and good as new. Cleaner and stronger than glue, less chance of glue getting on your shoe tree and onto the leather of shoes. No muss, no fuss.

    One comment on the shoe tree you recommended, everything is fine except that is varnished. Because of this, it will be not so good at absorbing moisture from the shoes. Having those in unfinished wood [cedar if possible] will be a much better proposition. In addition, being unfinished would allow you to rub sandpaper once a year, to clean the wood and restore the moisture absorbing properties of it, after getting saturated.

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I haven’t noticed a huge difference using these cause I have both types but I do agree that unfinished wood wicks moisture better.

  • @michaelpayne7026
    @michaelpayne7026 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Aren't unfinished wood shoe trees better than finished shoe trees? Reason is that maybe the finishing does not allow the wood to absorb moisture. Just a question.

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What’s up, Michael? There’s not a huge difference but to answer your question directly, unfinished wood does absorb moisture better.

  • @revrodgers
    @revrodgers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hey, for the shoe trees that the knob stripped out, put some toothpicks in the hole and re-screw the knob. Should fix your problem at least for a while.

      @@v_r_ Thank you. The classic, less moving parts = less points of potential error. Yeah, I'm starting to lean towards J. Fitzpatrick shoe trees (have three pairs of his shoes, 2 of them with the trees). Usually, I just go with the shoe trees from the manufacturer (like Carmina trees with Carmina shoes) hence the cobbler union shoe trees, but might start looking for new ones...or those with better insteps/lasts (like J. On a serious note - you have really good taste and I think we would all benefit from a (series of) video(s) showing how one can benefit from this particular suit tailored to your body shape. This type of video will help us all since my body is not the same as yours, or another person. Yet we are all buying suits off of the rack at whatever store we each have available to us. Therefore we all need to consider the benefits of finding (and befriending) a good tailor (aka, local businessperson) that can help us look as god as possible. Your taste, plus experience can help us all know when to spend money on alterations for a good suit vs. wasting money on a cheap walmart suit. Thanks for the quality content you produce - keep up the good work!
