Honestly the best Volvo (and car in general) channel currently on TH-cam. No cocky or flashy bits. Just a cool dude doing actual, humble upgrades to a beautiful V70R. Keep em coming man, youre doing great!
Couple of tips: The brake fluid reservoir is the same auto or manual, the auto just has the port for the clutch fluid feed sealed off. Just snip it, no need to crack open your brake system. Second: When bleeding the clutch make sure the fluid is OVER full and keep topping it up. The clutch reservoir is a little partition inside the brake reservoir and only gets filled when the fluid is at the very top. They do this so you don't dump all your brake fluid in the event of a clutch leak. Hope this helps!
As a Swede, it pleases me to see you work on a V70. But also everything around the production. B-roll, the lofi music, hearing all the tools over the music, it’s relaxing almost. I hope you find your audience because you’re worth it.
As a Swede this is a nice breath of fresh air as the vast majority of the v70s in Sweden arent tuned and only go super low with huge subs, and most of these drivers lack their own taste and run the same wheels as everybody else in their low v70s. Its very fun to see you work!
That maybe true, but a regular rust bucket V70 in Sweden is more expensive than this 1500$ V70R Kinda puts things into perspective as to why things are the way you say they are.
But the majority of the v70s in Sweden are owned by people that does not care about cars at all. Like my father and a lot of the neighbours. They bought the car because they wanted a reliable, comfortable and safe car for going from A to B.
I’m not a car guy. I have a V90 cross country and remember very fondly driving the family 244GL when I got my driver’s license. Yet, somehow, I find these videos mesmerizing. They’re meticulous, soothing, and so satisfying as to be therapeutic. Bravo for catching fire with this awesome car. It’s a beaut and will be awesome when completed.
Not even a car guy--I'm a film photography guy, but I have been loving this series. Makes me want to get into a project like this. Learning a lot and also super interested in this now. Keep up the great content, Willem!
Man, this channel is just like a breath of fresh air. Please, for the love of god - stay chill, stay normal - and just be you. I'm here for the ride....
Great job! You need put the transmission control unit in neutral to get the car to start and drive. It’s a mechanical switch on the control unit attached to the automatic transmission, although I’m sure you already figured it out. I drove my manual swapped V70R for a few months this way, but it runs kind of funky. Rev hang, no reverse lights, no reverse lock-out (be careful when shifting from 4th to 5th), check engine light, transmission warning message, no cruise control…. I eventually had the manual conversion done to the CEM and ECM. It wasn’t cheap, but it’s worth it. The car now thinks it’s a manual and drives like a factory M66. Maybe even better thanks to a single mass flywheel. Again, you’re probably finished with the swap and are already having a ball rowing your own gears. It totally changes the driving dynamics of the car!
I only discovered your channel a few days ago and I love it so much. You have such a good and laid back energy and it's a nice change of pace from the overly-loud and in your face approach a lot of TH-camrs seem to have. Looking forward to your future content, keep it up buddy
The piano in the background and your voice pairs for a really chill, well-made video! Also the editing is minimalistic, which I love! Keep up the great work man
been around your channel for a while now, not really commenting but always watching and liking the stuff you upload. Gotta say I love your content! Keep up the good work because there are just way too few volvo enthusiasts on YT that actually make good content that is fun and enjoyable. Greetings from Germany!
A breath of fresh air! I'm loving these no nonsense videos and looking forward to the next video with the engine and tranny going in! And most importantly, good luck with the build! 👍
This is easily my favourite youtube series at the moment. So nice production quality and the old car, which deserves to be ridden, is given a whole new life. You deserve much more views and subs my man.
Been following this series as a fellow Volvo nut. I own both an 06 V70R and a 95 850 T-5R. I’m glad the factory did all the work for me to include the M66 in my P2R. 😉 The M66 is definitely worth it! Thanks for the content and the inception of more car parts to buy/install.
Man it has been a long time since I have been so stoked for a car project on youtube. I discovered your channel when you started the project. Keep up the great work! Stoked to see the finished result!
this is just great unfiltered content. Not watered down with stupid stuff. Straight to the point and your very honest of your capability which is what makes this enjoyable to watch. Cause we all started somewhere, right? I can relate especially to your videos. Back during covid lock down I was trapped in a house with my mother in-law, wife, and sister-in-law. LOTS OF ESTROGEN! So, I've always wanted to rebuild a motorcycle and I've never done anything like it. So, I did... found a garage that I rented, turned it into a makeshift shop and started the process. I did film some of it but not all of it. i got a few editing programs for my PC but I never made it happen as far as putting it up. I did complete the bike however and it came out sick. Point is your channel shows me what I could have done if i committed to posting the content. I would have done it the same way as you. Keep going man you're doing a great job.
Chiming in to say I’m loving these videos too. Personally I couldn’t care less about the type of car, but these are right up my alley purely because you are chill to listen to and seem to know your shit. So sick of watching videos where they yell and go too over the top. I just want to see chill stuff man, and you’re onto it.
love how you can make a hole a## manual swap and it's still just a 20 min video, i'm absolutely addicted to watch the process of this build. Love your videos man keep up the great work!🤎
Different styles of the same genre of content but your videos are up there with M539 Restorations in terms of enjoyment to watch. Keep up the good work!
Your simple videography and editing style makes it of a clean build. Wishing I had the tools to make my shitbox this clean. Keep doing what you do man, we love this kind of videos. Love from the Philippines.
I am very impressed by how young you are, and how much you know about mechanics, and especially about Volvo, since it is not a very common brand and also has elements and solutions that are not common in other cars. Needless to say, I have subscribed and liked all your videos. To give you a fault, I would like to see more cleaning.
Love both of your channels Willem, and am really enjoying the V70 improvements and upgrades you've chosen to share. I love cars and tinkering on them, and also photography ('04 BMW 330i ZHP and '05 X5 3.0i are my drugs of choice - both owned since new), so subject-wise, you're ticking all the boxes for me. Loved your style and substance on the photography side, and pleased to see the same on the automotive side. Bravo Willem!
Watching your process of restoring and converting this Volvo has been such so cool to watch honestly. I feel like you do such an awesome job maneuvering and working around things in your garage. Definitely trying to get better at working on my own vehicle, especially since I just pulled some parts for it too! That being said, after starting to watch your videos I’ve definitely noticed a lot more Volos in my local junkyard lmao.
Dude I cannot wait for the next video! So happy for your continued success! Keep it going! This car is so unique to you that I can’t see you ever getting rid of it either !!!
Dude I sold my s60r recently so it wouldn’t get messed up when I go to college and I miss it. It was so clean and you’re restoring ur v70r exactly to the way my s60r was (besides manual swap and some issues) love the content
09:50 spottet the same on my bebs car a week ago. Not a cool Volvo but a smol Corsa D 1.2. Gets the job done and is cheap to commute. Gas prices in GER are incredible. That being said: Hot air cooling off - condensation. Get a lil leak for it to drip and the rust is all yours.
Wheelem, you should enable a $ thanks button when you upload your videos. I'd be sure to send a few "thank you" bucks to you. Keep up the good work! As someone said in the comments, your videos are a a breath of fresh air in the TH-cam car wrenching videos. Thank you for sharing!
Hey man! awesome to see! just finished up my manual V70R project car! huge tip, make sure surfaces between engine and transmission are super clean before install. will save you a dreadful hard start issue! keep up the good work!
These videos are so simple yet so entertaining, cant wait to be actually old enough to drive and own a car, definitely will be getting a similar year 2006 Volvo V70 as my first 😅
It's this kind of content that reminds me that as long as you're willing to figure it out, pretty much anyone can do awesome car stuff. Or there's something about film photographers that can just do car content well. (Stanceworks, Sam Hurly, Wheelem). Pretty inspiring to see.
As stated, the brake master cyl is the same auto/manual. I’m not sure if it was mentioned but be careful lifting the engine by the aluminum accessory bracket as they are known to snap off. It happed to me once. Always wrap a strap around that side in case it lets go or find a better spot to attach to
Great videos, thanks for posting them. I’ve been bingeing your stuff lately and agree with the others in here that say you’ve got a really good formula. Looking forward to seeing how this project finishes up!
You complete legend! From the first time I saw this car I was a little sad you didn't have the mt but I was so happy for you and sometimes people just prefer autos but you went and smacked it in! You rock!
I'm hoping you know that you will need to program the car and do the proper wiring for this swap or you will get a check engine light look at some forums if you haven't already.
Epic. Can’t wait. Love these cars, I’ve owned the one you are using as a donor, these days I’d definitely go the wagon over the saloon. I’m still shocked how cheap they are in the US…. Here in the U.K. they still fetch 8-10k nearly 20 years on. Great work, great production, it’s so watchable. Nailed it. 😊

Nice work man! A mate from sweden here. I have a Volvo S60 T5 (-05) that im thinking of manual swaping. Didnt know that you could leave the auto-ecu in the car, thought that you have to reprogram the ecu for this. This video made it all more interesting 👌🤗 a little info about my car: 2,4 T5, kkk24 turbo, green injectors (964, stock R), intake, building full 3” exhaust, should make around 350hp and 450nm. But im out for that 6-speed manual transmission, just as you say, value is like double and just the feel 👌 Nice work, keep it up, im following!
