@@dpbikessuper underrated video .. this displayed the visual of each mounting strategy... Thank you.. going to watch more videos.. I am looking for a helmet like the one you want in this video.. hopefully you have a review on it
My favorite view starts at about 8:44. I like the horizon at the center of the screen but where you can still see the trail and movement of the handlebars. Have you tried using the great free Gyroflow software which uses the gyro sensor telemetry info GoPro stores in the video file? I don't do MTB riding, but shoot urban riding videos around New Orleans, where the streets can be as bumpy as trails. You can completely turn off hyperview on the GoPro, set the widest lens the GoPro can do for the desired frame size, then use Gyroflow to do image stabilization and lens correction, which is completely configurable and does much less image cropping the Hyperview. It's incredible software considering it is completely free.
Thanks for all your time putting these angles into a video! I think i like the chin mount best. Helmet is too high, and side helmet is not as fun to watch. Its good to switch it up and use them occasionally though!
I appreciate the comment! I’m defiantly the biggest fan of the chin mount as well. The stabilizer of your head and the go pro is really good. What do you think of the hyperview?
@dpbikes hyperview looks good on the chin mount 👌 i just bought an osmo action 3 camera and plan on making bike videos with it. Since i dont wear a full-face, I'll opt to do the 4k 30 with a steady mode. It's a nice fov, i think the chest mount will work great from seeing how your gopro looks on chest mounts
I usually use the chest mount for my bmx riding as I don’t wear a full face, or a few of my earlier mtb videos where made with a chest mount. So I’d say it’s a good view still.
Great job Dude that was a lot of work and answered a million questions! I just got the hero12 and the mod 2.0 lens and I ride dirt bikes. I'm hooked on the whacked-out Hypervision view right now maybe it'll change later but thanks again!
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to compare all those options. Now I can make a better assessment for getting the max lense. That warping though. Have you tried mounting the GoPro vertically on the chin? I mount mine on the chin but sacrifice showing the bars to show more of the trail but it feels like is missing something. I also have the GoPro 8. Not sure if the 12 has a wider angle without the max lense. Cheers.
I like to use chin cam as I don't have to take off a chest strap when ever I need to put on another or remove a jersey or jacket. But things that are a must for me are: 60fps, I can really tell when it's not 60fps, I notice it's ''missing'' frames, also not as much detail when moving of course, no distortion. So far all footage I saw looks horribly distorted, which is a No from me. As I want the terrain to look how it actually looks like. You sohuld test Max Mod 2.0, in linear, I saw a vid that said it was possible to use Linear mode, it actually removed lots of distortion, but it was not a MTB video, but I would like to see how it does, if the terrain bends. And how is Linear mode with the stock lens? I've not seen it yet. I want to use what ever gives decently wide view but zero distortion. Is this even possible? I've been told the newer cameras including Hero 12 has lens glued so well aftermarket lens can't be installed. Which is a shame. I use GnarTec Ultimate chin mount, it's It's alu with rubber, so sits securely, and fits any helmet.
Thank you sir! I would say that without the max lens mod the hypersmooth is not good enough. It's not natural, it's like someone is forcing the view to turn or it's kind of "delayed". It's not gimbal style free floater. For sure the max lens mod is needed :-)
I always use the chinmount + max lens. I feel like its the most "natural angle" for a viewer (not too far up or too low) and w max lens it looks faster bcs of the widened pov. Great video btw!
I have a Hero-12 with Max 2.0 lens. I have a chin bar mount and when I angle it to show the bars I can’t see down the trail far at all. I see you ran this setup and it looks way better. Setting are the same.
@@dpbikes Thanks for the offer. I already deleted the footage out of frustration! 😂 I’m going to try a few more settings and mount options and dial it in eventually. Cheers!
Unfortunately the box of my truck is usually filled with all my tools for work . So I just installed the fork mount so it’s not clanging around in there. The box is usually almost full so hard to get a tailgate pad in there. I wish tho.
Hey, thanks for watching, I have a fox proframe . Whatever helmet you have you can search your helmet model on Etsy and order the mount. That’s all I did!
What Im lacking here is 16:9 comparison to Max Lens 2.0 since comparing it to 8:7, it gives wow effect when its not that much of a wow comparing to 16:9.
Max lens has the max hyperview which gives you 177 degrees field of view, the hyperview normally is less than that but warped a bit from the 8:7 . The max will also allow for horizon locking while keeping the view the same. I believe anyways.
I found when using the chest mount all I could really see is the stem what is the best thing to do just point it up (I have a hero 10 and I like the camera vertical

Sorry i had to watch the video on mute. But what is your preference as far weight distribution when mounting the gro pro under the visor or on the chin? Does one or the other pull your head down more? The gopro weighs more than my proframe lol
@@designdoubletap the weight distribution is defiantly less noticeable on the visor, and the chin mount how I have it can bump your chest once in a while but I don’t notice it pulling due to the weight.
I guess I should have said that in the video. However, i got this one from Etsy. Probike3d and then you find your specific helmet and it fits beautifully.
I think it only works in Final Cut and premiere! Sorry dude! You may be able to find something else where, or use some of your own distortion and creativity to make your own! Good luck!
Hey there. Great vid. Thanks! I just got a GoPro and tried it with a magnetic chest mount but the footage is bouncing all over the place when popping off stuff. Is it just in the tightness of the straps, which I must just not be cinching down enough? It’s entirely possibly there’s too much play in the magnetic mount system, which is two piece. I’ll try to tighten the straps even more on the next ride. How tight do you wear your chest mount? Thanks!
The magnet itself will add some instability. I have my chest mount as tight as it will go. I prefer to use the shortest go pro mount and screw it in tightly.
Thanks for replying! I think you’re right that the magnet system adds too much flex. I’ll keep looking for a better chest mount. Have you used the hyper smooth autoboost setting at all?
